Adam Fawley and his team have kept me booked again
An old case, causes problems for Adam and wife Alex
With plenty of twists and turns
And two storylines on the go
I could not put it down
Hurry up book 6
Thank you netgalley, Cara Hunter and Penguin for allowing me to read and review this book.
As many of you already know, I only really got into reading last year and one of the first books I had picked up was Close To Home by Cara Hunter. WOW did I love that book!!! I then went on to pre order the next two books (I've never pre ordered a book before or since this series!) and loved them as much as the first. So let me just start by saying this series is great and you should start it now.. or atleast add it to your wishlist 😀
The series follows the same group of detectives working on a different case each book. Its honestly like catching up with friends after some time apart, im really keen to hear what's been happening since we last left them. I have also grown to care about these characters so can feel all sorts of emotions when certain things happen.. I won't spoil anything!
I'm not gonna lie, when i read the subject matter for this one... I wasn't that excited. I mean I knew regardless of the topic, Cara's writing would be great and I would enjoy it either way.
This case follows an allegation of sexual assault at a local college, between a student and member of staff. The only difference in this case is that the victim is a male claiming to have been assaulted by a female staff member. Its a bit of he said she said for about the first 30 percent of the book. Getting to hear both sides of the story and the characters being interviewed. Running alongside this, a new podcast has been released looking into the case against Gavin Parrie( you will know his name if you have read the series), and Adam's wife Alex is very close to giving birth.
And then bam. Someone is dead. But who? And which part of the story does it relate to?
Honestly the goosebumps i have a the end of this book!!! I nearly screamed come on Gislingham!!!! Cheering him on when Alex knew he was the one to contact... OK that might not make sense because I don't want to spoil it but yesss this book started slow but wow I loved it. I think you have to be invested in the series to enjoy this as much as I did so for sure go back and read the others!!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this ARC.
I really like the DI Fawley series and looked forward to reading this latest book - wow, it did not disappoint and I thought this was a great read. It picks up a few months after the last one and DI Fawley and his team investigate a sexual assault to find all is not as it seems, and a an old case returns to haunt DI Fawley. I loved this book, it had so many plot twists, turns that I didn’t expect and held my attention from start to finish. The last quarter was so fast paced and thrilling that I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster. I love the little glimpses into the characters lives outside work and that when DI Fawley was at rock bottom his team had his back. Whilst this is the 5th book in the series the author has included a brief summary of the police team so the book can be read on it’s own, although I would recommend you read the previous books to get a sense of the characters, their histories and interactions, and because the previous books are so blooming good 😀. A very well deserved 5 star read and when’s the next one coming out? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am such a big fan of this series and this book did not disappoint. I know it’s a cliche but I genuinely couldn’t put this book down and I had it read in one day! There are two stories intertwined in this book which made it even more of a page turner!
Another 5 star stunner from Cara Hunter! I keep thinking, she can’t keep writing such amazing books, but she does. No spoilers of course, but I like the twist on the focus of this book compared to the others. I feel like there were a few unanswered questions too, so there must be another one coming, right?!
Huge thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for the ARC. I just feel sorry for the people I bought the series for who have to wait until publication day next year!
Another fantastic read from Cara Hunter! Each book is getting better and better. The Whole Truth begins with an accusation of sexual assault...but typical of Hunter she doesn’t follow the normal expectations from the reader. This plays out through the novel with twists and further revelations.
There is then a shocking murder which requires Major Crimes Unit to take over...(no spoilers here!)
Meanwhile DI Fawley’s heavily pregnant wife is reliving her experiences of Gavin Parrie’s attack/conviction through a Podcast and imagining she has seen a figure in a white van...
All builds up to an unexpected ending, satisfying but definitely surprising!
I love how Cara Hunter includes snippets of text Message conversations between witnesses and a Twitter feed discussing the crimes. It helps flesh out the crime and reveal more about the characters, in a way which happens in real life! The Podcast script was also presented as a script and was a great device for the plot. Cara Hunter is definitely a crime novelist of the 21st century!
I’m so excited to see these Fawley novels are being televised as they’ll make great dramas and I hope there’s more novels to follow!
First time reading any of Cara Hunters books and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
DI Adam Fawley and his team have an unusual case to investigate - a young male student has reported a case of sexual assault by his female college professor.
A young woman’s body is found on the railway tracks - who is she and who murdered her and left her there ?
An exciting crime thriller that had plenty twists and turns to keep you interested in the storyline. My only criticism would be that I personally found it overrun by too many characters.
Well worth reading.
The Whole Truth
Another great book about DI Fawley and his team. I have read all the books in the series and have enjoyed all of them. This one focuses on an assault on a student by his female tutor. Who is telling the truth? Then a women is found who they initially think has committed suicide and subsequently DI Fawley finds himself arrested for her murder. Will he ever prove his innocence?

I’ve been hooked on the DI Adam Fawley series since book 1 and this does not disappoint. Although it is a series, it would also work well as a stand alone as there is a very helpful outline of the main characters at the beginning of the book.
Tightly plotted, with 2 main storylines, the characterisation and attention to detail is, as always, excellent and draws the reader in from the start. I wanted to race through it to get to the ending but forced myself to slow down and savour it. An interesting take on the #MeToo movement and a very interesting and satisfying conclusion, I can’t wait for the next instalment.
Highly recommended
Many thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley for this advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
I have read and enjoyed all of the DI Adam Fawley series, so was eager to read this new one. It certainly didn't disappoint. When Adam and his team are called to one of Oxford's colleges to investigate a sexual assault, they are taken by surprise to find that a male student is accusing a female professor. Then a woman is found murdered, and Adam finds himself the prime suspect. He is convinced he has been framed by someone he put away a number of years ago who swore revenge. But how can he prove it? This is a great read which will keep you guessing to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
Cara has done it again an amazing book. Having reviewed her books from the first one I can only say this is the best so far. There are two stories within the book and I must say the secondary one is by far the most intriguing and brings in the story arc from previous books it will have you guessing right up to the end.
The main story switches backwards and forwards between the two main characters and you really do not know who is telling the "whole Truth". As usual to say too much will give the plot away but out of all the Cara Hunter books I have read this is the best and a must read for fans of the genre.
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin for the ARC of this book.
She's done it again.
From the first book, Close to Home, I knew this series was going to be something special. And with each new book that comes out I'm only proven right.
These books aren't just good; the DI Adam Fawley series is truly excellent.
I don't know what there is to say that I haven't already said in my previous reviews but I will say this: the mysteries in this series, without fail, are always complex and intricately woven. Never to a point of confusion, but even with all my thriller experience there's never a single moment where I know what is around the corner. The writing is so quick to read and with amost constant twists I'm always left wanting more. I love the characters and by this point I feel like I know them so well. I've loved in this book and the last book delving further into their lives and how the author really challenges what you think you know. Several times in this book I had chills. All I can say is read this whole series. I promise you won't regret it.
My only regret is always reading these books early because I have to wait so long for the next installment! But they're certainly always worth the wait.
Cara Hunter has done it again, another cracking read featuring Detective Adam Fawley. I don't know how she does it but the Adam Fawley series is one of the best police procedural books around. This time things become very personal and upsetting for Adam and his wife Alex.. I couldn't read fast enough as I got nearer the finish. What an ending, I can't wait to see what happens next.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book.
CARA HUNTER – THE WHOLE TRUTH
I read this novel in advance of publication through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I finished my review of the previous Adam Fawley novel in this series with the words, “With the right casting, these books could easily become a television hit series like Broadchurch”. And at the end of The Whole Truth the author reveals that she has sold the TV rights for a series. It was just a matter of time.
As before, there are no chapters, just scenes from half a page upwards, which makes you want to keep turning to see what’s going to happen next.
If you can, read All the Rage, before this (though you don’t have to), you will find that this story turns the previous one and its conclusions on its head, as well as integrating a did he/did she rape accusation into the melting pot. Plus, poor Adam and his wife go through their darkest days since the loss of their son.
To say it’s a page turner is an understatement. It’s not Shakespeare, and thankfully not intended to be: what it is, however, is an example of a very skilled author at the top of her game. I can’t wait for the next in the series.
I never repeat the blurb. Another excellent instalment of the DI Fawley series. A complex and unusual case runs alongside a plot to bring down our hero. A tad disjointed in places, hence 4*.
You always know you are in for a good read with a Cara Hunter book and this is no exception. it is a standalone story with any references to previous events well explained.
Truth and lies is the underlying theme, who to believe and who is being deceitful. I was thoroughly engaged with this book and could not predict the ending or anticipate the various twists and turns.
I enjoyed the style of the book with the elements of social media adding something different to the story. The book is well written with characters that are very believable and the pace of the book gathers speed so that you don't want to put it down.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. A real fast paced action thriller that will have you hooked from the first page. I really like this author
It’s not often you’re pleased when it’s raining on holiday, but when you’ve got a police procedural by Cara Hunter to read, you quite happily get yourself comfortable on the sofa, make it absolutely clear that you’re not going to leave it, bribe someone to keep the snacks coming and just enjoy.
This is the fifth novel in Cara Hunter’s series featuring DI Adam Fawley and his team at Oxford CID, and it’s no surprise at all to learn that it’s going to be a TV series. The realistic dialogue, the authentic police procedures, the contemporary plots and the interesting cast of characters (all with their own set of personal demons of course) are oven ready and will translate to the screen without too much tweaking.
There are three investigations going on in this new novel.
It takes real skill to juggle three complicated plot lines whilst keeping the reader up to date on the private lives of each member of DI Fawley’s team. I don’t think many writers could manage this, but Cara Hunter succeeds in keeping all her balls in the air.
The main plot line involves a 6 foot rugby-playing research student who accuses his slightly built female professor of sexual assault - what DI Fawley describes as a ‘killer flip’. He describes himself as walking a tight rope above various land mines as he negotiates gender politics, university machinations and an interfering MP.
The second plot line involves the murder of a friend of DI Fawley’s wife; the tension is ratcheted up as DI Fawley obviously knows more about the murdered woman than he will admit. The third strand involves the release from prison of a serial killer, Gavin Parrie, who has sworn revenge on Adam and his wife, Alex, who is heavily pregnant and at risk of losing the baby. She keeps thinking that the released prisoner is stalking her, but his electronic tag proves it can’t be him. Or does it?
Inevitably, the Oxford setting recalls Morse, and Cara Hunter nods to Colin Dexter by naming one of her CID team Somer. As the author lives and works in Oxford, you know that her description of academic life is completely authentic: the average Oxford department is, comments one Oxford don in the novel, ‘a very small pond overstocked with piranhas the size of elks’. As in the Morse novels, there’s a power play going on between the detectives and the smug, arrogant academics who talk down to the police and assume that they’re too thick to work out any literary references.
I love Adam Fawley’s description of an Oxford don who has ‘that grand self-assurance that comes of habitual High Table dining’. As in Morse, the police get the better of the academics.
I can’t wait for the TV series and I hope it does justice to these excellent novels.
Cara Hunter is a worthy successor to Colin Dexter and has brought the Oxford detective novel right up to date, with WhatsApp messages, Twitter, podcasts and news feeds. A Morse for the 21st century.
Thank you to Penguin books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early.
I'm a Cara Hunter fan and really loved this she said/he said thriller which kept you thinking right until the very last page.
The story has a number of unreliable protagonists and the reader is left guessing at all points of the book - a really well woven tale.

Book 5 #diadamfawley series
Once again this author has done it! This book is a great edition to the series and is a really enjoyable read. It grabs you from page one and keeps you in a reading frenzy to get to the end. It’s got so much going on, so many aspects to the story that there isn’t a dull moment in sight and the format of using watsapp messages, podcasts, notes and news feeds really breaks up the writing and gives it a more modern and realistic feel.
I enjoyed being back with the usual team and finding out how their personal stories are developing. The characters are the driving force and I have to say I missed DI Fawley leading an investigation a little bit in this book but it took nothing away overall. It made for great reading and is still one of my favourite ever series. Excited to read at the end, that the books are being made into a tv series! Can’t wait for that and the next book in the series!
