I was delighted to find out that I've been chosen as one of the first readers to read an advanced copy of this book. I love the DI Adam Fawley series with all my heart. I never missed a single book. Although each publication can be read as a standalone, it's best to read from Book 1 to really experience the characters' development and such. This book, in particular, is set to be published in 2021.

The Whole Truth is the fifth instalment and it is as gory and gripping as expected. However, the pace can be a tad slow in the very beginning. It only got interesting in the second half of the book. It is fast-paced towards the ending. I also find myself struggling to remember everyone's names. I'm on book 5 and still clueless? ( probably because I only care about Fawley, oops)

Plot-wise, I enjoyed how everything weaved together towards a satisfying ending. A lot happened in this book. I can't spoil anything but I don't kid when I say A LOT HAPPENED. Can the epilogue be longer, please? I'm so intrigued. It felt rushed somehow.

Again, I can't review this series without mentioning the inclusion of newspaper reports, interview /radio transcripts, WhatsApp messages. I really love these in every single one of the books.

All in all, this was a great addition to my favourite crime series. I can't wait for the sixth book, probably coming in 2022.

Really loved and enjoyed this book and it’s twisted storyline. It does follow on from from an earlier book in the series, but you don’t need to read these as this is a standalone book. Interesting that these books are soon to be made into a TV series, as while reading them you can see an episode happening in your minds eye. Look forward to the next one.

A good story leaving you on the edge of your seat thinking this can't be happening and also trying to work out what on earth is happening!

A very well constructed story. Who is telling the truth? who is lying? The belief shifts throughout. DI Fawley is worried about his pregnant wife Alex, The man who raped her years ago has been released from prison and she thinks he is stalking her. Things escalate when a friend of Alex's is murdered. Twists and turns to the very end.

Oh my god! This book was just the best instalment in the Fawley cases to date. I had to read it slowly to savour each page as it feels like forever since I read the previous book. Cara has created the most wonderful characters who you can’t help but love and care for. It’s not often you could feel this way with police procedural books but this is one gang I adore!

Such a clever book with your sympathies bouncing from victim to perpetrator and back again as the police themselves are confused as to exactly what crime ahs been committed and by whom.
Set locally to me the place names brought the story to life, as did the details of Oxford college life.

I will definitely be looking out for Fawley in the future

Wow! Cara Hunter has done it AGAIN! With her pulse-racing, nail-biting, stay-up-all-night, cancel-your-life-to-read new book!

‘The Whole Truth’ is her fifth instalment of the DI Fawley series which has just gone from strength to strength with each new release. And this book is testament to her unique writing style and her amazing ability to weave a good tale.

I do recommend, if you haven’t read the previous books in this series, to read them before starting this one. Whilst Cara provides brief insights at the beginning of this book to bring you up to speed. I personally didn’t feel these notes are enough for a ‘newbie’ to enjoy this book fully as a stand-alone novel. It is my opinion that this book bears far greater weight having followed the series.

This book, as the others, features Hunter’s trademark style of peppering her stories with various social media channels and newspaper clippings. Unlike others who have attempted this, Cara’s style really does embellish the story and makes it feel not only more realistic (and in some places humorous) but very modern and up-to-date.

I just couldn’t put this book down! It was utterly brilliant and had me hooked from the moment I opened it on my kindle. ‘The Whole Truth’ seamlessly blends 3 unrelated stories into one, slowly increasing the pressure and pace. I remember looking down at the ‘time left in book’ and thinking wow Cara I’ve only got 50 minutes of reading left and there’s an awful lot to solve. I really hope I don’t have to wait for the next book! But luckily for me I had nothing to worry about...

The only way I can describe the ending of this book is like watching a firework display. It’s all very beautiful in the beginning and in time with the melody... then you reach the end and you’re met with an explosion of short (paragraph length) chapters that quickly and effortlessly flick between all three narratives. Drawing your attention left, right and centre. Each one stopping with a new twist, revelation or decision ‘Ooh! Ahh!’. Before ending with an almighty BANG leaving you to catch your breath and with slightly starry eyes reflect on what just happened.

An excellent new novel by a wonderfully accomplished writer, you’d be a fool to not read them all!

Loved it. The whole series has been great but I especially enjoyed getting a little bit of closure in this one.

This was the first book I had read by Cara Hunter so the first in the Fawley series so I really appreciated the character summary at the beginning of the book. I think all authors of series’s should adopt this as its a brilliant idea.
The Whole Truth was a twisty tale that had it all. Sex scandals, lies, and crime. It’s not written in the usual way a book is. It has interview transcripts, WhatsApp conversations, police reports and podcasts. I was reading this book on my kindle so some of the police and pathology reports were hard to see and read but I wouldn’t imagine it would be a problem in a good old fashioned book.
What I liked most about this book was the idea that the victim of the sexual assault was a male jock and the offender was a female teacher. So often books are the other way found so it was refreshing for an author to write it this way round.
I will definitely be looking for the other books in this series.

Wow wow wow, so many twists and turns I didnt know if I was coming or going. Another unputdownable and irresistable book from Cara Hunter, featuring high flying academics in sex scandals interspersed with true crime podcasts and the hunt for the truth. I always love Cara Hunter's books, it feels so now, with excerpts of podcasts, WhatsApp group chats and texts littered throughout. This was up there with the best. Definitely one to recommend to any crime lovers. Thank you so much for the chance to read it.

Like the previous books in the series, this is gripping and twisty with a contemporary and timely storyline of rape and non-consent with a gender politics overlay. It is, though, very much a story of two halves as Fawley gets sidelined for acute troubles of his own, a development which I found barely credible, however interesting in a 'Line of Duty' way...

The format of podcasts, WhatApp, reports etc. continues and can add to the disjointed feel with some very quick-switch cinematic moments, though undoubtedly a page of WhatsApp posts can tell a story far more swiftly than exposition. At times Fawley's 1st person narrative starts addressing the reader directly ('you') and so I was expecting to learn who that intended reader was at the end, maybe a letter or similar? but no, that gets dropped and remains unresolved. In fact, the ending is the least satisfying part as it is so rushed: Hunter has to resolve it with a sudden inset of flashbacks and then it just ends with many threads still in the air.

Despite some niggles, this is perfect switch-off reading. It's perhaps not quite as twisty and puzzling as some of the earlier entries, and veers more towards the soap opera of Fawley's life which I find problematic as he's such a dull characterless lead. But the initial non-consent story and the far more interesting police teams carry this - a page-turner for sure, but with more thought behind it than many in the genre.

Another brilliant instalment in this well established series sees Adam and team face a case like no other. Having Adam off the scene for part of the plot gives a nice chance for other members of the team to shine.
As always, the authors style of adding in several different medias gives an authentic feel.
What's going on with Somer? Hopefully we'll find out in the next book!

An excellent thriller! The characters were well drawn and the storyline flowed seamlessly. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommended!

Having read the previous books in this serious I was excited to read this latest one. It did not disappoint, could not put it down once I had started it! So many twists, leading to a completely unexpected ending. Definitely worth reading!

When I was contacted to see if I would like to read this I didn't hesitate. I am a massive fan of Cara Hunter and the DI Fawley series. This is crime at its absolute best.

You don't need to have read any other books in the series previously as right at the beginning you have a brief run down of all the characters, which I thought was a great idea. It just refreshed my memory from the last book I read.

The story features on two crimes, a sexual assault and a murder. The crimes are not related in any way, but the flow of the story blended the two cases perfectly throughout the chapters.

The characters and the plot were all truly believable.

There were several parts of the book which featured written transcripts of podcasts, DNA reports and notes. I thought this was a nice touch and helped with the storyline.

This isn't released until February 2021 but I highly recommend you pre-order now. You also have time to read the other DI Fawley books before this is released. You won't be disappointed!

Cara's best yet without a shadow of a doubt. It's a cliché but I really couldn't put this down or stop thinking about the Fawley families plight. I'm so excited about the TV series, it's going to be amazing. There's a couple of loose ends in the plot that I hope will be developed in the next outing but this really is a series that goes from strength to strength and long may it last.

I’m still reeling from All The Rage so as soon as I saw this I screamed! I love Cara Hunter and I love this series!
When I was approved I cancelled the rest of my day. Nothing was getting between me and The Whole Truth.

Firstly, the handy table reminding you of characters and relationships was a handy touch! I read so many books each year, it’s nice not to have waste the first five minutes of reading remembering relationships and previous events.

And then the story..... Wow oh wow!! I know I was excited to start this but I wasn’t prepared at all!

If you’re looking for an intelligent thrilling read then you can’t go wrong with picking up The Whole Truth!
Personally I would say this is the weakest book in the series so far BUT that’s me searching high and low for a negative. The weakest book in this strong series is still an excellent read!

I am a huge Cara Hunter fan and love the DI Fawley series so was so chuffed to be invited to read the latest book, The Whole Truth. I was intrigued right from the outset because while the central crime was indeed serious, it didn't seem to have the same drama as previous cases. That said, we are lulled into a false sense of security before the plot unexpectedly ramps up and another particularly shocking case comes to light. This surprising turn of events keeps the book fresh and exciting and leaves even loyal readers doubting what the truth really is.

I adore the multi-media touches used by the author including the WhatsApp group, notes and podcast which all feel very authentic. As always, I'm pleased by the other regular characters in the series and the development that Cara provides for them without creating huge confusing storylines that are difficult to keep track of. I think the only character who perhaps deserves a little more time is Baxter as he still feels a bit of a mystery but the others are all very well distinguished characters I enjoy reading about.

Only thing I would mention is that the last 5% of the book felt rushed and I would have liked longer for the final scenes to play out.

I looked forward to reading The Whole Truth throughout and I am gutted to wait another year for the next book! This is a must-read for any Cara Hunter/crime fans although be sure to start from the beginning of the series!
