I loved this book. I am a fan of Cara Hunter's books anyway, and this certainly didn't disappoint. A great story, with convincing characters, and a great setting (I know Oxford well, so love books set in the city). Definitely one I will be recommending.

Yet another fantastic book by Cara Hunter with more about DCI Adam Fawley and his team. An on trend story of rape with a twist mixed with a missing women line of enquiry. The way the storylines twist and turn interspersed with the media quotes works so well.
Yet again his team shine through. Asante, Quinn, Gisbourne, Somer and Ev all play their parts in solving the cases. This is going to make a fantastic TV series when it happens.

I say this every time I read a Cara Hunter book but I honestly just love her writing style. I love the inserts of the Twitter feeds etc which give it such a fresh feel. This is one of my favourite series and it’s like catching up with old friends, as Cara manages to weave the personal lives of the team through the story so seamlessly. This had me on edge, wondering how Adam was going to get out of this predicament. Another nail biter, well done! Scheduled for release in March 2021, I was so excited to receive the invitation from the publishers via NetGalley to read and review this early. I thought All the Rage took the DI Fawley series to a new level, but it’s safe to say that in The Whole Truth things are better than expected in terms of storytelling.
There are three stories being told in The Whole Truth, each of which challenges our expectations and assumptions.
In the first instance we have Caleb Morgan, a young student who has come forward to his university making an allegation against one of his professors about a sexual attack. The professor concerned, Marina Fisher, is not quite what you might expect and from the outset this story challenges a lot of preconceptions. Almost certainly influenced by the #MeToo movement, this was a murky ever-shifting story where it was never quite clear what had happened, where each of those involved seemed to be hiding something and which, ultimately, led to me feeling very sorry for any officer ever involved in investigating any kind of sexual assault.
The second and third strands of the story are more closely linked than we might initially have predicted. There’s the disappearance of a young professional called Emma Smith. Her body is, eventually, discovered so this becomes a murder investigation. Unfortunately, the investigation uncovers some rather damning evidence which has serious implications for DI Fawley. The third strand of the story focuses on the Fawley couple. Alex is pregnant, and increasingly fearful that the man convicted of the attacks (one of which she survived) is determined to engineer revenge on them for manipulating the evidence that led to his conviction. Many think she’s paranoid, but the podcast researching this trial and conviction certainly offers enough to suggest Alex is right to be fearful...and, eventually, offers some very useful information to help those investigating the death of Emma (who was, in fact, a close friend of Alex Fawley).
Without giving too much away, once we start to see these strands interweave this became very hard to put down. Every part of this story was gripping, and it was fascinating to experience so many of the inevitable frustrations that must come from investigating such cases. Some of the characters definitely come out of this better than others, and though we are encouraged to remain convinced of the innocence of some key players, some of the truths that are revealed at the end most definitely left a rather unsavoury taste.

Another investigation for DI Fawley and his team, with a helpful list of character traits at the beginning. An assault case at a University is brought to the attention of the police, and the team are divided as the victim is male. However when they interview the other party, a different scenario emerges. The team have to tiptoe through a difficult, sensitive case, with the political problems involved due to the people.
Meanwhile Adam and Alex are nearing the end of her pregnancy.
I love this latest from Cara Hunter.

I have read and enjoyed the others so was really looking forward to reading this one. It does help to have read the previous ones in the series but a helpful synopsis of characters is given at the beginning of the book.
A he said she said sexual assault starts the book with a parallel theme looking at a previous serial rapist. I had thought that these two crimes would be linked and suggest you read the book to find out if they are!
Whilst I did enjoy reading this it wasn’t my favourites, I did feel that the ending was terribly rushed with lots of loose ends. There is probably a good reason for this and assume another is in the pipeline.

‘The Whole Truth’ by Cara Hunter is the fifth book is the DI Frawley series and, a new Cara Hunter novel is always highly anticipated! The author commences the novel with a brief intro to the team, which is an inventive idea and one that I would love to see other authors adopt as this makes it easier for new readers to follow the series and also serves as a handy reminder for fans.
This time DI Frawley is based by one of his greatest challenges as the past truly comes back to haunt him in the presence of Gavin Parry who is recently released from jail and seeking both his revenge and also to prove his innocence. Leaving Adam and his wife Alex, in fear of the truth being revealed, meanwhile Alex and Adam are becoming increasingly stressed as her pregnancy progresses.
But don’t worry, the story is not just about the Frawley’s and Parry, there are two other concurrent storylines aswell – the murder of a local woman takes center stage as does a potential rape. Post the ‘MeToo’ both are timely storylines are raise the issues of consent and also the subject of male rape at the hands of a woman – certainly a topic that several of the (male) officers seem to struggle to understand. This makes for a particularly thought-provoking narrative and adds to the sense of excitement and tension for the reader. Especially as we know long that nothing is ever as it seems in a Cara Hunter novel – there are many, many layers to her stories and numerous twists along the way. Leading to a shocking and sometimes unexpected conclusion.
My only disappointment this time was that the story was wrapped by in the final twenty of so pages and I would have enjoyed a little more time with the Frawley family in the aftermath.

Based back in oxford with D I Adam Fawley and his team, it was nice to be reacquainted with the team and their dynamics and it was certainly a shock to see how the book developed! Totally unexpected but kept me guessing right till the end.
Three current lines of interest are all running together, sexual harassment, a body and a running podcast discussing miscarriages of justice that are very close to home!
Police procedure, media exerts and witness statements all cleverly tie the three strings together with surprises/shocks and disbelief along the way!
This read will keep you guessing and changing your mind as it unfolds to its conclusion! So hope there is another book to come!

This has been a consistently good series and this may be my favourite so far. I really like the inclusion of excerpts from social media into the narrative and in this book we even had podcasts. I’ve seen this tried less successfully elsewhere but Cara Hunter nails it. There is a brilliant introduction to the team before the prologue, perfect for anyone new to the series but also a helpful reminder for returning readers. This is an engrossing read with a storyline about a student accusing their professor of sexual assault. Not only is that not as straightforward as it first appears there is another challenging investigation for the team. These books have always been about the team rather than just Fawley and this is particularly true here. This is a fabulous read and I highly recommend it and the series.

Cara Hunter delivers another brilliant read here. She's now my favourite author in the police procedural drama.

This one centres on two cases, both keep you guessing and spin in interesting directions.

The main story is a sexual assault case, topical in the #MeToo era coupled with the campus politics at a university. Difficult for the police to work through the truth v fiction in the he said/she said case - and an unusual take in that the complainant is a male raising the claim against a female. The second case is a murder case hitting DI Fawley very close to home. We also learn a lot more about Fawley’s team in this cracking, and excellently plotted, read.

Another excellent story in this unbelievably brilliant series. I devoured this. Definitely the heir to Ruth Rendell and that’s the highest compliment I can give because no one else comes close. You can read this as a stand-alone but better if you read the others in the series first. A strong 5/5

Wow! Cara Hunter does it again! This is the fifth and another amazing instalment in the DI Adam fawley series.

I absolutely love this series. I was delighted that I got to read this book early as this is one of my favourite series ever.

The writing style is fantastic. I'm always so hooked and engaged in the stories right to the end.

I love the multi media elements. They are so creative and really add to the story.

I also love how the different plots all weave together in the end. Cara Hunter is incredibly clever at making everything fits in the end. These books really do feel like your reading a script for a TV crime drama. I can't wait to see them be adapted.

There were so many twists and turns. I was genuinely gripped till the very end.

The only disappointing thing was that I have to wait another year for the next one

This is the fifth Book in the D I Fawley series and the third I have read. There are two main storylines, one is that of an Oxford student who accuses his female professor of sexual assault and the other follows Fawley and his wife Alex.

This series of books has a wide cast of characters who are well-defined and interesting. The plots too are very good. I especially like the back story of the main characters. i'm now going to seek out the others in the series which I haven't yet read. If you like police procedurals you'll love this series. Thanks to net galley and the publisher for the ARC.

If you liked Colin Dexter's Morse books I think it is a fair bet that you will agree that Cara Hunter is in the same league.. 'The Whole Truth' deals with sexual crime and some of it is strong stuff, but topical and relevant rather than salacious.. The author has sold the TV rights and I think that the material will work well - this book is well researched, interesting and credible.. A very satisfying police procedural.

I was delighted to receive an email inviting me to read the new Cara Hunter as I have loved and enjoyed all her previous novels.
This was a great read and offered me a perfect escape from the current world we live in.
It starts with a sexual harassment claim where the victim is a man and the perpetrator is a woman. At different points you believe different each. At the same time a podcast has been released looking at the case that first bought DI Fawley and his wife together. You get to see a glimpse into Adam’s life.
This book also includes the Fictional social media reactions to the sexual Harassment claim. It’s a great read and had me hooked. When I thought I had figured it out another piece of evidence or witness throws off my conclusion.
can’t wait for the next book and congratulations to Cara on selling the TV rights to Castlefield TV, can’t wait to see who they pick to bring Adam Fawley to life.

There's not a lot I can say about this book apart from WOW. Cara has delivered another brilliant thriller centred around CID in Oxford. The storylines are breathtaking, how can anything turn out to be okay for Adam, and Alex? There was an innovative touch when we find out near to the end what actually happened to Emma. One of the best books I've read this year, no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. Keep them coming please.

I have to admit i was very disappointed when i saw the release date was pushed back because it was going to be that much longer before I could read it. The last book left me in such suspense wanting to know about the baby and what happened to the criminal when he was released. This book has it all. I love the different formats she uses: interviews, articles, podcasts etc. That has always been the biggest draw for me to Cara's books. She takes suspense to another level. Just when you think you have it figured out, the police tell the story and you realize you are wrong. But then later on, you find out that wasn't right either and she throws you for another twist. This book was amazing. Her third book is still my favorite, but I cannot ever get enough of these characters. I'm glad this book wrapped up a lot of questions though as with covid going on, it may be longer before we see another book by her. Book was amazing!

So the beginning of the book has a list of characers to familiarise yourself with, as its one book in a series. there were quite a few characters, so depending on how you'll find this, you may want to start from the beginning of the series!

I found this book to be incredibly gripping, and the author created a tense and emotional atmosphere that made it so hard to put the book down! Each character was incredibly real and heartfelt, and so vivid in my mind. It was a great read, recommended to anyone who loves a psychological thriller.
