This rom-com was a very easy and pleasant read. A small town store owner falls in love with two men. That is the premise in a nutshell. If you like a steamy read than this one is for you!
Spoilers Ahead:
While I don't mind a love triangle, in theory--I DO mind when I feel like the main love interest isn't the one that's shoved down our throats from page one.
I just... Had a difficult time with how the heroine and the guy she didn't end up with were just all over each other. Like, a lot. And then he wasn't even the one she ends up with.
I like their to be more back-and-forth in my love triangles. Not that she had to be sleeping with both of them a lot... Just more... Of something.
I ended up DNFing this one part way through. So, I don't know, maybe this had more of that in what I missed. But it just couldn't hold me.
Unfortunately found this one very meh throughout. Didn't feel or see any chemistry between the leads, and it was all just happening because the story needed to happen, so not working out organically. The opening also felt like too much, like trying too hard, and it rather the set the tone as it didn't start me with a good impression at all, sadly
I received this book complimentary from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.
This had lots of sexism and weird body talk. I hate cheating and this had that too. Honestly, I liked the characters and setting and frankly I would have liked the story much more if David wasn’t in it. Spence and Laura were enough. Literally if David just wasn’t in the story it would have been a slow-burn, longing romance for both Laura and Spence but instead we got a weirdly possessive, uncomfy, sexist David and Laura cheating on David with Spence. So the story ultimately gets ruined by the cheating (the sexism was too much though).
This has been on my TBR for several years now, and I can’t seem to make myself finish it. I’m sorry! I’m sure someone will love it, but it just isn’t for me.
When I started reading this book, I thought it would be a Christmas small-town romance. I was wrong... Holidays are barely mentioned in the book, and the romance was too steamy to be cute!
I could not stand Laura during the whole book, and I strongly disagree with how she behaves and how she doesn't care about hurting people...
Very disappointed, but I read it pretty quickly.
A fun love triangle with a likeable heroine. This is a great book for people who want to be swept away and not think too hard but just be entertained.
This book was so sweet and romantic! It had humor and well developed characters. I liked that I couldn’t predict the ending!
This book was trying to hard to be so much... and it all fell flat. It was so meh... sadly. So in the end it was not for me.
This is one of those books you can cozy up with! Beautify setting, fun dialog and an overall fun read. Looking forward to more from this author and recommend this book!
Laura lives in a small town and is looking for her soulmate. She finds herself dating two different men, and isn't sure either of them is exactly what she's looking for.
This is marketed as a rom-com, but is much steamier than what I was expecting.
3.5⭐️
Well, the warning is right: this book has high heat lol. I knew that going in, just didn’t feel it was necessary.
The actual plot of the story was really good and I really enjoyed it. The dynamic between the men working on the project with Laura is wonderful; they’re all so different and I love each of them for different reasons.
I think if the heat had been turned down a bit and the triangle was dealt with a bit differently this would have been a five star from me. Both just didn’t feel necessary for the story to be what it is. And I realize there was fair warning of both prior to reading, both were just a lot more than what I expected. Give it a read and make up your own mind!!!!
Thank you to Augusta Reilly, Rhapsodic Press, and Netgalley for a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of this book sounded excellent, but the writing made it a bit lackluster. Laura is a small town shop owner who hires a marketing consultancy to help invigorate her dying town, but she falls immediately for one of the consultants on the team. And then a second consultant on the team, while she's still dating the first one. She came across as simultaneously old-fashioned and a bit simple, in how her life was incomplete without a husband, but also making terrible choices that hurt both men. And, there were SO many sex scenes written in an awkward and explicit way; it kind of felt like porn. I generally liked this book, but there was also something slightly off about it.
I really dislike love triangles so I went into this one not feeling that aspect which isn’t really fair to the book. Some parts also felt rushed leaving me unsatisfied
David’s corny and kind of possessive. Everything he does seems so weirdly manipulative. He doesn’t truly care about Laura’s needs, but they have some things in common. Spence is quirky and precious and wants the best for Laura.
Some of the story seems unbelievable but maybe that’s just me being fat, a novice hiker, and one for comfort. But the very primitive hiking without being prepared (not wearing the right types of clothes and shoes at the very least) seems so ridiculous to me. I don’t know why it bothered me so much.
The sex scenes get super graphic and kind of seem like they were written by a man - read the book and you’ll see what I mean. But it’s downright pornographic and super steamy, and definitely seems male-centric in terms of actions.
Some real quotes from the DRC:
“He had hair in his chest, like a real man.”
“He looked, quite simply, like a man. And not just any man — the kind of man who’s could make you very glad you were a woman.”
“C’mere, girl. C’mere, boy.
“…a little ritual that no B-cup woman like her mom would ever understand.” This is rude and feels demeaning to women with smaller breasts. Incredibly unnecessary.
The timeline makes no sense. For the amount of weeks that happen and the amount of months away the big event is, the timeline never really lined up.
It also really bothered me how there is no talk of sexual health. It most romance novels I read, there’s at least mention of a condom, or the sex isn’t graphic. But in this book, the sex is incredibly graphic and the love interests literally cum inside the MC. Like, it says that - and WHAT?
There was just a lot going on in the book that was unnecessary and borderline offensive. There’s a difference in a love triangle trope and blatant infidelity. I was disappointed, to say the least.
This book is for the open minded people. There is a heck of a lot of steam and considering it’s a love triangle, well things are hot 🥵!
With three people there is always going to be one you dislike and that was the case in this story.
Overall good writing and entertaining story. I only wished I read more of these 5 level steam novels more often.
Do this had it all , it’s fun, it’s swoony and steamy set in as small town. You will read this love triangle romance in one sitting,, it’s just that good.. I would love to see a sequel to this book , the ending was brilliantly done.
sadly, before i could download this title, netgalley took it off their catalog. that means i can’t review this one. HOWEVER, i will be checking in with my library to see if i can get a copy and review it that way
This book is definitely steamy! I haven’t read a lot of love triangle stories but this one’s definitely steamy rather than romantic. A great read for people who like spiced up romances!
I’m becoming a fan of this author book. This was good. Really enjoyed this story. I will read more. Go read This now
