“One summer day, Alice was lying on the riverbank when … ‘Oh dear, oh dear! I shall be late!’ a rabbit cried, dashing down a rabbit hole. Burning with curiosity, Alice followed it. Down, down, down she went...”

This classic story of the psychedelic dream of a little girl one sleepy afternoon.

Alice asleep and then her dream of the white rabbit, diving into a round, green hole in the trunk of a tree

This is a board book, and the hole is a hole in the page, showing where Alice could go through to the next page. There she finds a room with a tiny door and a tiny key and a bottle that says DRINK ME. She drinks, but is then too small to use the key.

Aha - there is a cake that says EAT ME. She does, but then she becomes enormous and weeps. Her giant tears shrink her down so she’s just the right size to follow the rabbit through the door.

A garden with strange creatures and a bossy caterpillar

On the left side, we can see through the back of the ‘door’ from the previous page, where tiny Alice is holding a too-big key. There is a round hole on the right side, through a (magic) mushroom, where we can see what will be an eye of the Cheshire Cat.

“Alice found herself in a garden.
‘Who are YOU?’ asked a caterpillar.
‘I know who I was when I got up this morning,’ answered Alice, ‘but I’ve changed several times since.’
‘Explain yourself!’ demanded the caterpillar.

‘I’m afraid I can’t explain myself, because I’m not myself, you see,’said Alice – and catching sight of the white rabbit, she ran after it once more.”

The Cheshire Cat! Now she’s completely lost and asks for directions. The cat smiles a curious smile and disappears, leaving only its grin behind.

The Cheshire Cat and little lost Alice

We don’t know how she gets there, but she finds herself at a tea party.

Alice at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

Next, she’s invited to play croquet by the Queen of Hearts, and there are playing cards flying everywhere. Suddenly, the Queen turns nasty, and her soldiers, who are actually playing cards with legs, chase Alice with spears and crossbows! No wonder she panics!

She wakes up – whew!

Alice waking up on the riverbank, where a cat who looks just like the Cheshire Cat is climbing the tree

This is a pretty faithful retelling of the story (as far as I remember) without pulling any punches (as far as I remember). The colours are so bright and cheerful that it’s not as scary as it could be. I’ve never read the original book (just fairy tales, etc), so I’m not sure how psychedelic this dream actually is, but kids will enjoy the pictures, the peek-a-boo holes, and the scary bit at the end. Adults will enjoy the hint of magic mushrooms and the reminder to check your drinks!

A few pages long, and some easy sentences to read by a toddler brought us to Alice's land of fantasy. Everybody knows Alice's story, but this one is easy to read, with a board book format that is interesting for kids. Approaching Christmas, the book might be a good idea of gift.

Absolutely beautiful and fun board book version of Alice In Wonderland. I love the cutout areas and how they are used between the pages. This will definitely become one of my go-to baby and toddler gifts. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Quarto for my digital review copy.

Step into Alice in Wonderland is a colourful book for your younglings.

This book is a quick summary of Alice in Wonderland for young kids. It seems almost too short or too simple. There are many versions of this story that have wilder pictures and colours that matches the original story.

If you want a 12 page version of Alice in Wonderland with some colourful and cute pictures, this book is for you. Personally, I didn't like it as an adaptation. I wanted a little more out of it.

Two out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

This was such a cute compact version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Being an avid Alice fan and a preschool teacher, I was very interested in checking this book out for my kids. I believe that this would be a very good way of introducing the story of Alice to young children, especially preschoolers. I know my group of three to five-year-olds would enjoy the story and also the design of the book overall. Also, I love the illustrations in this book and how they were designed along with the book's overall shape. I will definitely be picking up my own copy of the book for my library.

This condensed version (8 pages) of Alice in Wonderland has beautiful illustrations and highlights all of the interesting parts of the story in a toddler friendly way. This would be a great way to introduce the classics to young ones.

Thank you NetGalley for the DRC.

The illustrations in this book are vibrant and full of energy. I think the task of writing this classic story, which is quiet dark at times, is very difficult. The author has clearly made much effort to make it accessible but I personally feel that it is still too scary for little kids. Personally, as a parent, I wouldn't feel comfortable reading this to my two children both under the age of five. I think it could be tweaked for an older audience of children.

We are obsessed. I downloaded these gorgeous layered titles as soon as I was approved and read them to my little girl immediately, I know we will be adding them to our bookshelves as soon as they're available. Bright, bold colors of gorgeous illustrations with a quick, condensed version of Alice in the Wonderland made for an enchanting story!

I'm a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland and thought the art was really memorizing when I requested this book. I feel like this book was just quickly put together as Alice was drawn in the exact same position on two of the pages. Just felt like it was a cheap way out and could've been done better.

This was a condensed version of the children’s classic that did a good job at narrowing down the odd plot. The illustrations were colorful and bright, and would be sure to draw the attention of young readers. The story ended a little abruptly, but it was still an enjoyable read overall.

Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favourite books and I love how this book sums up Alice in Wonderland for young readers. The way the pages go from small to large as you go through is so aesthetically pleasing and will definitely make this book intriguing for readers. I also love how there is a clue about what the next page will be about. This book would be excellent for introducing and teaching about predictions to young readers.

This is a board book for young children where each curvy line you see in the illustrated cover represents a page that has been customly die cut to a specific shape, with each page progressively larger as the story of Alice unfolds.

Of course, this is not the Alice in Wonderland as written by Lewis Carroll, because it’s aimed at very young children, but it shares the essence of the story. Beyond that, the illustrated pages are extremely creative, colourful and sure to be enjoyed by children - and probably a few parents, as well. I love the way each page changes shape, and the illustrations have been customized to fit the shape. I thought the page with the Cheshire Cat was especially creative. Most of all, I love how many wonderful books like this are being created for the youngest readers, the best way to instill a love of reading in little ones is to make reading, or being read to, fun.

Advanced Reader Copy provided by Words&Pictures via Netgalley
This edition of Alice In Wonderland is a very short version of the story for children that are toddlers. This book is 7 pages long (14 if you're counting both sides even if there aren't words on that side) so it's fairly short, about as long as a toddler would pay attention to a book which is nice. The illustrations were really interesting and in a style I enjoyed and I think children would too. Since this was a digital ARC I can't speak on how it looks in person but I LOVED the die-cut pages and how they are layered, most children I've worked with find these types of books very intriguing. For the age this is made for I think this is a really nice edition and would definitely recommend to those with smaller children and those that are a fan of the movie and want a cute version.

A nice little summary of Alice in Wonderland adapted for little children with great illustrations. It would make a great gift for a toddler.

The book is a little too abridged for my tastes, but the illustrations are incredible. I wish that there were more of both words and pictures. The words don't really make the story sound very appealing, and the pictures are so wonderful that there needs to be more of them.

This is a great rendition of Alice in wonderland for young children. I reviewed an e copy, but the concept of the die-cut pages looks so fascinating. I could tell how each page progessed with the previous & future pages as backdrops. I would love to see this book in person to get the full experience.
