Generally a refreshing read - it is always great to see cultures normally underrepresented in American books given a spotlight. I enjoyed it in general but was expecting something with such a fluffy tone to have... rather less death?

Every once in a while, you pick up a book that makes you laugh so hard that people around you wonder whether you’ve finally lost your mind. Well, that's what Dial A for Aunties did for me!
A hilarious story where everything that could go wrong didn’t just go wrong, but crashed and burned and went up in flames! It had all the elements that make a book very enjoyable for me— a good plot, a narrator with a fun, distinct voice, and excellent characters (those aunties were fantastic!).
But expertly woven through all the comedy were some honest nuggets of immigrant life and that sense of being in a doorway between two different cultures. The writer did an amazing job communicating a narrative that really resonated with those of us who had to balance two or more different cultures growing up, while also managing family expectations.
This book was so much more than just a run-of-the-mill comedy. I would give it 6 stars if I could! Can’t wait to see what this writer will come out with next.

I don’t know if it’s the fierce love of the aunties or Meddie’s frustrated attempts to gain back the love of her life while shielding him from finding out her biggest secret, but I fell in love with her from page one. If you want to go to the best worst wedding you’ve ever been to, or see what happens when a bunch of family members try to “help”, buy the book and get reading. You won’t be disappointed.

No other author besides Sutanto can get me to LOL reading about her heroine's mom helping her hide a dead body. DIAL A FOR AUNTIES is my pick for the most anticipated rom-com of 2021!

I'm so happy I got to read it and also can't wait to watch the Netflix version.

I'm so glad to hear this is going to be adapted by Netflix. It has a perfect mix of hilarity, pratfalls, romance, and family drama and will make a great show. I think the biggest challenge will be transferring Meddy's pitch-perfect voice and inner monologue to the screen.

This book is so much fun, hilarious, and unexpectedly grabbed my heartstrings in several places (I may have teared up a little bit about the power of parental/familial love. I mean, what better measure of a devoted parent could you ask for than "is willing to help you dispose of the corpse of the man you accidentally killed"?)

Part of what makes this book so enjoyable is the deft handling of side characters and subplots. There are quite a few of both, leading to some (intentionally) frenetic pacing, but it never felt like too much, and I cared about everyone (there's one friends-to-enemies-to-lovers relationship in particular that I squee'd very loudly about).

All in all, a delightful read.

Dial A for Aunties is an utter delight from start to finish. It is a mix of Crazy Rich Asians and Weekend at Bernie's, which is exactly the mashup I didn't know I needed. I laughed out loud more times than I can count. The aunties themselves are imperfectly perfect, the heroine excellently flawed in her attempts to bridge the two worlds she lives in, and the hijinks were pitch-perfect.

If this isn't optioned for film already, I will be shocked.

This book was hilarious! If you enjoy dark humor, you've got to check this one out. It's basically chick lit meets a murder mystery and it's full of wacky, wonderful characters that are diverse and superbly written. This book is smart, it's funny, and you will love it from cover to cover.

Absolute non stop fun. This book is pitched as a Crazy Rich Asians meets Weekend at Bernies and that's exactly what it is! Everything that could go wrong, does, and by the 75% mark you are wondering to yourself how the heck is everything going to wrap up? It's got a little heist flavor but also deeply romantic, and also just a wonderful commentary on family. The main character is formidable and decisive and the perfect pacing invites you to a thrilling roller coaster ride of a narrative. Love love love!

Absolutely loved it. Funny, witty, with tons of voice that makes every character come alive on the pages. Part murder mystery, part rom-com, a full immersion into the Chinese-Indonesian culture... and a group of loveable, bickering, headstrong and fiercely loyal aunties you can't help but fall in love with. By the time I finished reading I was desperate to meet the aunties and had developed a serious craving for dim sum.

Meddelin Chan is tired of her Indo-Chinese mother and aunties interfering in her love life, but she didn't expect her latest blind date to end up with her needing to hide a dead body. And once her aunties get involved, things get messier and messier until that dead body threatens to ruin a wedding in front of 2000 guests.

HILARIOUS. This was such a ridiculously fun romp, with laugh-out-loud dialogue and surprising twists from beginning to end. Meddelin and her family are so well crafted, and their adventure is delightfully outlandish. This is definitely going to become a Swiss Army book recommendation for me -- everyone will love it!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this lovely book from my fellow Berkley author friend Jesse! When I woke up to it in my kindle, I did a happy dance. And let me tell you, it did not let me down! PSA to everyone and their grandma: this book is FABULOUS. You need it in your life!!

It surrounds Meddy, a late twenties wedding photographer and her meddlesome family. When Meddy’s date goes horribly wrong (resulting in the accidental death of her date), she’s forced to deal with the consequences during a lavish wedding weekend...with the help of her mom and aunties of course.

I just want to clutch this book to my chest and give it a warm hug. It’s been a stressful few weeks for many reasons, and Dial A made me laugh out loud multiple times (those who know me and my preferred writing style know it takes a lot to make me laugh), providing a much needed escape. 🍆 anyone??

☎️The Asian rep was done so beautifully and with care. I appreciated Sutanto’s author note in the beginning regarding representation and defying stereotypes. She is absolutely right - one book cannot and should not be expected to represent an entire ethnic group

☎️I adored the family dynamic. The unique and different relationships between Meddy and each aunt was so well executed. It truly made me wish I had a similar family dynamic.

☎️ The aunties!! 🙌🏼 Omg these women cracked me up. They are the true stars of this book.
