“Jordan Valley Miss” is a quick read. It’s about a young, widowed handsome pastor named Eli and his adorable 4-year-old daughter Brandi now living in Jordan Valley, a small town. Eli is the new pastor of a small church in Jordan Valley. He used to be a pastor at a megachurch until the church dismissed him after his wife and twin brother died in a car accident which left young Brandi traumatized.

In this town, he meets and befriends Glory and her sister Star whom both work in the town’s daycare. This was a nice read. I liked their friendship and how both Glory and Eli inspired each other. Eli, despite being a pastor, had some issues of his own. I wished we delved in more into that. I thought the romance was a bit rushed imo but it’s only 10 chapters in this book. The Christian message was good as well. The characters really loved Jesus and want to glorify Him in their lives. I also felt like we didn’t know much Glory’s life except her family she her jobs. She studied up he a nurse but I wished we got to know her more.

Nonetheless, it was a nice read.

I received this book through NetGalley and Pelican Book Group, and all thoughts are my own.

This story gripped my heart from the beginning. The truth about being in leadership and ministry in full time work in a church was enlightening as was the sadness I felt reading of how quickly a church removed the minister. The impact of holding things in tension and finding God's will and way was shown delightfully.

This is the first book by Susan Spess that I've read, and I will say this about Susan's writing: it's sweet with a bit of undue harshness thrown in for good measure. The book doesn't take long to read and it is fast moving in plot. There are places where the plot moves way too fast for reality.

Eli was the pastor of a mega-church in Dallas where he didn't have to know anyone, didn't have to involve himself in anything other than preaching, didn't have to concern himself with much else besides being in the pulpit--there were others who could do that for him. When his wife and twin brother died in a car crash near Laredo, his little girl was in the car with them and stopped speaking from that moment on.

Glory is the administrator of a daycare center next to the parsonage in Jordan Valley, Oklahoma. On the night of a major snowstorm, she takes the children who are still at the center over to the parsonage where there is a fireplace to keep warm. There she meets Eli and his daughter, Brandi.

Some of the things in this book that are a bit unrealistic are:
Eli hasn't been widowed for a year before he moves to Jordan Valley
Brandi's selective mutism is caused by something her mother said before she died and no attempts by anyone can make her talk.
Eli hasn't been widowed for a full year before he begins falling for Glory
There are assumptions made about Eli's wife and brother being in the same car crash that are not fully investigated.
The church in Dallas held no grace for Eli in asking him to resign. Instead of understanding his situation, they just wanted to sweep it under the rug and move on.
I am not a writer, so I don't really have much of a leg to stand on for picking someone else's work apart, but I am a reader and I know what I like. This wasn't it. Two Stars.

Pelican Publishing Group and NetGalley.com provided the copy I read for this review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Can I give this sweet story 6 stars? This is one of those stories that you finish and you still think about. A truelove story built on faith and humbling. I LOVE how the characters fall for each other and the excitement that it takes for them to get to that point with each other. You will love this Christian romance story! It's so sweet and fun!

Jordan Valley Miss, by Susan Spess, is a sweet story of a very good looking, single dad and pastor, Eli, who was released from his very large church and took a job in a small church. He’s struggling with his own faith, loss of his dream position and a daughter who hasn’t spoken since the accident that took his wife and brother. Just as he is starting his new position he meets Glory. She is very vibrant and energetic. She belongs to many boards, works at her family’s day care center, leads bible studies and plays piano for the church.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, to the point I could not put it down. This is a great story with many good messages within it. The message of having faith is strong as well as the message of caring for others. The message of having pride in having the biggest and best is one that stands out to me. I especially appreciate the devotional at the end of the story which tells us to keep our eyes on the Lod, to not be arrogant and to give credit to Jesus for our strength in times of trial. This is a great, quick read story, the ending had a happy twist I was not expecting. I received an ebook copy from the publisher, Pelican Book Group, through NetGalley, this is my honest review.

Jordan Valley Miss is a sweet book that tells the story of Pastor Eli and his parishioner, Glory Matthews. Pastor Eli is reeling from the death of his wife and brother and the trauma his 4 year old daughter experienced being in the wreck that took her mother and uncle. His family members' deaths have left Pastor Eli emotionally numb and questioning God. After loosing his pastorate at a Dallas mega church, Pastor Eli accepts a position at a small church in Oklahoma. While there, Pastor Eli develops a friendship with a woman attending the Church named Glory.

Jordan Valley Miss does not shy away from the struggles that Christians face with their faith and the emotions that come with it and how they get through to the other side. I especially liked how the book had a devotional at the end. If you are looking for an inspirational book with a true Message, I suggest reading this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book! (This review is also on GoodReads.)

Assumptions, yes this story is full of them, and we are all guilty of them.
A young charismatic preacher, who was fired from his last pastorate at a mega Texas church, is now healing pastoring a small town, and for him it is very small church.
We meet his young daughter Brandi who has not spoken since she was in the car that killed her mother and uncle.
Enter a sweet young woman, Glory, and her love to help children, even if she did not approve of the young pastor. With this information can there be a spark here, you need to read this one all the way through.
A sweet Christian read, and the page flew for me!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Pelican Book Group, and was not required to give a positive review.
