Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of MURDER AT THE BEACON BAKESHOP (Book 1 of the Beacon Bakeshop Mysteries) by Darci Hannah in exchange for an honest review. Lindsey Bakewell is a successful and therefore, wealthy, New York financier. On her birthday, she finds her celebrity chef fiancé in flagrante delicto with his pastry chef on a cooking surface in his restaurant. Yuck! A good bit of wine and some computer surfing later, Lindsey finds herself the owner of a lighthouse in Beacon Harbor, Michigan with plans to convert the property into a bakery. When she arrives in Beacon Harbor, things aren’t quite as advertised. First, she’s met by guy in a truck instead of by a chauffeur with a limousine. Second, the property barely resembles the lovely photographs shown on the realtor’s website. Third, the lighthouse is haunted! However, life must go on, so Lindsey and her Newfoundland make do and settle in while massive renovations bring the property into alignment with Lindsey’s vision. On opening day, Lindsey’s ex-fiancé and his girlfriend make a surprise appearance to trash the bakery and to ruin Lindsey’s business. When one of them dies after ingesting Lindsey’s offerings, Lindsey finds herself a prime suspect in the death and her bakery closed for the foreseeable future. Lindsey, her visiting best friend, and her new acquaintances decide to investigate so they can clear Lindsey of suspicion and reopen the bakery.

I liked this book and thought it was a great start to a new series. I recommend this book to fans of cozy mysteries featuring murder, lakeside towns, bakeries, small town secrets, and giant dogs.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of Murder at the Beacon Bakeshop by Darci Hannah in exchange for an honest review. Lindsey Bakewell, an investment banker from New York, goes online and buys the Old Beacon Point Lighthouse on Lake Michigan. She has a secret passion for baking. The downstairs of the lighthouse would be the Beacon Bakeshop and Café. The upstairs would be her living space. An obnoxious local, Fiona, comes in before the grand opening. She hates it that Lindsey has opened up a bakeshop in "her lighthouse". How dare it be sold for a bakeshop. At the grand opening Fiona and her friends are picketing and then Lindsey's ex boyfriend and his girlfriend, Mia, come for revenge from New York. Mia ends up not breathing outside on the lawn. Next door neighbor, Rory, helped as a barista and CPR to get Mia breathing again. She was too late. Then a couple of days later Fiona dies.
It is always wonderful to find recipes at the end of the story. This was a fun book to read with some unexpected twists and turns. Darci Hannah is a great author. I really hated to stop reading and put down the book. I hope there will be another to follow. Thanks fora great story.

This was an enjoyable start to a new series. Lindsay buys a lighthouse to open a bakery in MIchigan. Seems like an odd thing to do for someone on Wall Street, but the book makes it work. I enjoyed reading the exploits of her new life and of course the problems that arise when someone dies at her opening. I sometimes did not like her personality; I almost found her to be abrasive. Although, she is supposed to be from New York so that is not a stretch. The ending was a surprise even though there were some clues just not clear ones. I do have to say that I saw the main twist from early on and it was annoying to see everyone be obtuse about it for so long. Still, I will be on the look out for the next book in this series.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a fast read with an interesting mystery. I liked the characters and was disappointed when I found out who the killer was as I liked her and the reason why. I really liked Welly. #MurderattheBeaconBakeshop #NetGalley

Lindsey Bakeswell was a money maven on Wall Street. When she found her chef fiancé fooling around with his pastry chef she broke up with him, got drunk and woke up the owner of an old light house on Lake Michigan. With enough money in the bank, Lindsey is starting over and pursuing her passion of baking by turning an old historic lighthouse into her home and bakery.

While most of the town is excited to have a bakery opening, there are a few who aren’t happy that a historical landmark has fallen into private hands. Given the latter, Lindsey expects a protest at her grand opening. What she didn’t expect was her ex fiancé and his hussy showing up. Nor did she expect anyone to be poisoned in her bakery on that first day and to be set up to take the fall.

With her BFF, Kennedy, her sexy new neighbor, and her baker, Lindsey is determined to find out who the killer is and save her business and new life. Aside from her core group, Lindsey isn’t sure who to trust in town since everyone one her list seems to have a motive, no matter how naught or nice they are.

This new series had me at “Lighthouse”! I was excited to have a strong female protagonist and a solid whodunit in this setting. I devoured this book and was already searching to see if a release date has ben set for the next one. IT’S THAT GOOD! Be sure to check out the recipes at the end and you can enjoy some delicious treats right along with the characters.

Recently I read the Haunted Lighthouse series. I loved the lighthouse lore and scenery. So I was thrilled to get this promotional ebook from Netgalley (in return for posting an honest review).
I was involved from the first page. Great characters and lovely writing and imagery. So now I'm going to need to buy my own lighthouse!
