Love the premise! I always love reading a sci-fi/dystopian novel and this one definitely has some unique aspects. However, at times the time skips took me out of the story and sometimes left me a bit confused
"What if the cure to man’s deadliest disease were discovered but then lost" that was what hooked me in to read this book. It was a great scifi novel with interesting characters, I enjoyed that it was almost a space opera.
Not bad. This has a good premise, but suffers some from faulty execution. i.e. The telling, which will turn off some readers. This is a new author, and the lack of polish comes across here. However, Krusky shows promise and I hope he continues to write.
Thanks very much for the review copy!!
A very enjoyable book that i found hard to put down. It had me hooked from the outset and i loved every moment of it. A treat for sci-fi geeks like myself the world over.
Interesting book but a few too many characters and jumping back and forth. I think I would have enjoyed this more in the audio format and if I see it come up on audible, I'll definitely be giving it another go
Krushky's plot is intricate and well woven together. The book has many similarities to a covid world. My only feeling of downside was I thought it ended abruptly.
I have two points I’d like to make before I get into why I DNF’d
Again, I’d hate to say this, but the narration definitely translates better into an audiobook.
In the first few pages the main character reads almost exactly like Chip Driver (bonus points if you know who I’m talking about).
This was a DNF. I’m sorry y’all, but between the frequent time skips, the unlikeable main character, and the inability to stay on one topic in the storyline for more than a few seconds, I had a hard time understanding what the heck was going on, and if I did understand, it was boring, monotonous, and most likely stroking the character’s ego. I can at least say that I got to chapter 13.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me a copy of the book for a honest review.
While the story felt promising I frankly got confused between the number of characters, far too many in my opinion, and the timeline which kept on shifting. Also I felt that much of the explanations are missing from this part, am assuming that in future release they will be explained, but again for me there were lot of 'huh, what just happened here?;' kind of scenarios.
Still it is a book worth spending time on just to enjoy the richness of alien civilization and their technology which has been written quite well.
I liked the premise of the book and there were some clever bits and characters, but the jumping back and forth in the timeline was a bit jarring. A more linear narrative would have been preferred at most points (until the end, when it worked out rather nicely).
