Special thanks to Netgalley and Adam's Media for providing me with ARC.
This book is good and have a lot of healthy recipes that fit my lifestyle and I loved the pictures of the meals 💝💝
While I enjoyed the book it should have been named my intanst pot Italian recipe book and 5 ingredients left off. I expected 5 ingredient recipes and that was not the case. Nevertheless I did get some good recipes to fall back on.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Instant Pot is one of my favorite kitchen tools. I use mine multiple times a week. A 5 ingredient cookbook for Instant Pot is an amazing idea. It even further helps secure the spot of fast way to cook for busy people. There are so many good recipes in here. It is mostly basic meals but all of them are things I would eat. This is an excellent cookbook for busy families looking to cut down on eating out.
Love having some easy, fast recipes in my arsenal for those days when what I really want to do is order take out. Again.
Excited to add this one to the library collection, our patrons love all of the "I love my instant pot" books.
I go back and forth on this book, mostly because I'm not sure who it's for. Most of the recipes are very basic -- buttered egg noodles and salsa chicken breast-- but others require ingredients like hog jowl or gumbo file that most beginner cooks wouldn't have. It also makes use of lots of Instant Pot tools that are sold separately (like a round glass baking dish or round silicone muffin tin). I think the people who already have all these tools are not the people who would get the most out of this book. Ultimately, I found myself using this book for base recipes that I riffed on-- the creamy chicken soup was bland until I added more spices, and the flavors of the Nashville hot chicken patties was good but I decided to sear them after the first batch steamed came out very strange. If you have all the Instant Pot inserts (or are willing to buy them), this is a great book to learn how to use them, But I'm not sure who I would recommend this book to otherwise.
I'm doing something I have never done before, I'm promoting a book before it is published. Not just on the day before, but actually a few weeks before! I love my Instant Pot, so much so I bought my youngest daughter one for Christmas along with several accessories. This book is fabulous. I've already started making some of the recipes from it for things I've never tried before. One of the things I enjoy about this book is that the recipes use some of the accessories. The author went beyond what you could make in the insert pot and used egg bites, silicon muffin cups, baking dishes. Things like that truly lift this above the others!
As an Instant Pot cooker, I loved this book. It was easy and enjoyable to read. The recipes were simple, but delicious. I plan to purchase this book for both my library and family as gifts.
I have had an Instant Pot for a year. I have not been adventurous with it, because I have a set list of recipes my husband will eat, four of those are in the Instant Pot. This book has been a game changer. Many of these recipes are ones my husband eats but I have never thought of trying them in the pressure cooker until now.
This book has inspired me to get some of the accessories, like the egg bites mold, so I can try even more. I highly recommend the salsa rice, white chicken chili, Italian beef sandwiches, cheeseburger macaroni, twice baked potatoes, BBQ ribs, and rotisserie chicken to name just a few.
If you are new to the Instant Pot this cookbook is a must purchase.
This is a great cookbook for those new to using an Instant Pot or regular users looking for some inspiration. The recipes are well thought out and explained clearly. I like that so few ingredients are needed. I only wish there were more photos.
I use my Instant Pot all the time and this is a great addition to my Instant Pot cookbook collection! The recipes are varied and easy, perfect for quick weeknight meals. I would have liked more photos!
The recipes looked good, but I wish there were more photos. I appreciate as many finished photos in a cookbook as possible.
The recipes were easy to understand and perfect for a beginner instant pot user. I like that they are 5 ingredients or less. I wish so many of the recipes did not use the extras that need to be purchased separately. It seemed like a way to sell more Instant Pot branded products.
I was looking forward to this book as a long time pressure cooker user, but a new person to multi cookers. There is many recipes which I am sure will delight a novice, the recipes are simple with few easy to get ingredients - verging on the plain side. It's good when you want no fuss cheap meals, All the classic American dishes seem to be included.
My real criticism is that the book doesn't have nearly enough photos. I have a lot of trouble picturing recipes without photos and am usually reluctant to try something I can't see. Only about 1 recipe out of 5 has a picture.
The breakfast section often needed moulds, which seem a little tedious to use, in that case I must admit I am more tempted to use my oven. The soup section felt a little small to me but there is a huge amount of stews chicken and other meats. The fish and dessert sections were interesting for me as I never considered cooking either in my old pressure cooker, so it had me very intrigued.
I would have liked more on grains and bean so as to vary my way of preparing them.
Sadly, this did not feel like a book I needed in my collection, but I am sure it will be great for beginning cooks short on time and on a budget. This book works very well in a small kitchen.
I am a beginner when it comes to cooking in an Instant Pot and was intrigued by the description that the book included quick and easy recipes using 5 ingredients. Some are quick and easy but others are more complicated and take more time to prepare than the times indicated in the recipes. Many of the recipes require extra accessories that I don't have, such as a special steamer basket for the Instant Pot, spring form pans, and an immersion blender. Also, the recipes use 5 ingredients, in addition to what the author refers to as "Pantry Staples" which includes various spices such as salt and peeper, sugar, flour, broth, and others so some recipes use a lot more than five total ingredients. I was disappointed in these aspects of the cookbook.
The best thing about the book is that it includes a well-rounded selection of recipes. I like the beginning which includes an introduction to the various buttons and functions of the Instant Pot. Then the recipes are divided into sections such as "Breakfast", "Appetizers", "Side Dishes", a few different chapters with Main Dishes, and finally "Desserts". There is also a helpful index at the back of the book. There are photos of some, but not all of the dishes. The dishes I've tried so far, like the risotto and the mashed sweet potatoes turned out good. Others that sound really good that I want to try are Twice Baked Potatoes, in less than 20 minutes, Cheesy Chicken Chile Verde, and Beef and Broccoli. As mentioned about, there are others that sound really good but I don't have the correct accessories.
Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for this ebook. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
I got an instant pot type appliance as a gift and had no idea what to do with it. The instructions that came with my pot only showed how to clean it and what the buttons are for. I learned so much about how to use my pot and found recipes to meals I had no idea I could make in my pot. So far we love the egg roll pork bowls and found out that roasts and pulled pork take less than an hour to make. Next I will be making one of the cheesecakes.
A great starter book for a new instant pot user. Filled with great recipes and nutritional information; I also liked the refresher for “what these buttons” do for the Instant Pot; I especially like the 5 ingredients or less aspect of the recipes. There are limited photos but good information
A nice cookery book if you have an instant pot or not. Some very American recipes but also some home comfort classics, my only complaint is the lack of pictures I can’t be the only one who likes to see what I’m making and what it should look like. Needs some tweaking before I would think of buying it but if you can overlook the lack of diversity with the food and the lack of photos it would be a good addition.
Thanks to Adams Media and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
I requested and received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.
I like that the ingredients are simple, and do not rely on solely on garlic and onions to make the recipe work. Many people who are allergic to these FODMAPS will appreciate that they are left out in many dishes. I found the recipes easy to follow for all levels of cooks. The tips and tricks in the beginning of the book, as well as in the recipes themselves where great, and will make anyone comfortable with using their IP. I do feel that some ingredients, like lamb, are very specific to a taste, availability and budget and substitutions could be offered.
I did not like that additional components were necessary to use in conjunction with the IP, such as the silicon baking cups and glass bowls, for some dishes. However, I can see the usefulness of them in the recipes.
There are lots of dishes for each section for all tastes. I especially like the steamed artichokes, the acorn squash, and the mustard greens recipes, which are not normally featured and often harder to cook in traditional methods.
I decided to make the Lemon Butter Chicken with Fingerling Potatoes on page 128. The recipe read easily enough, however, the prep and cook times were off. It says hands on, 5 minutes. By the time I prepped the chicken, chopped the onion and halved 2 pounds of potatoes, it was at least 10 to 15 minutes. The cook time was off as well, with the recipe stating 10 minutes. I am not sure if the author means just the time it cooks in the IP but, even in the instructions it states 10 minutes to cook and 10 minutes natural release. Then, add in the time to get the pressure up, and I was at 30 minutes, leaving me around 45-50 minutes from start to finish. The recipe does not state high or low pressure, which would be nice to include as well. In the end, the dish did not knock my socks off (not really tasting the butter because it melted in the stock), but it was good but I feel it could have cooked it in the oven in the same amount of time.
In conclusion, if you like to cook in your Instant Pot for most dishes, or want to learn how to use your Instant Pot for more dishes, this is a great starter book for you. Thank you for the opportunity to review this cookbook.
First off, I appreciate that this cookbook contains nutritional information for every recipe. It also has a nice variety of recipes that are likely to please a lot of types of cooks. There are some that just purchased ingredients like mixes and others that are truly simple yet from-scratch. There are also a fair number that will work for folks who are vegetarian, low-carb, gluten free, etc. Photos are provided for some recipes but not a lot (maybe 1/4 or fewer?). The instructions are simple and easy to follow. I'm looking forward to trying many of them.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
Great resource for me as I am new to my instant pot! This isn’t anything revolutionary, but is a helpful starting point for me with recipes for my instant pot!
This cookbook is very easy to use. It gives lots of details on using the function buttons to make everything easier to use. The recipes are simple, most are made of ingredients that you already have, and is listed by category. Will be using it soon
