Annie Rains is one of my favorite authors. Her compelling characters, their stories, and descriptive voice draw me into her stories. Ms. Rains crafts a fabulous story for Trisha Langly and Jake Fletcher. Loved the plot premise- Trisha has been hired by Jake’s grandmother to oversee her rental cottages while Jake’s parents have asked him to convince his grandmother to sell the properties.
Grandmother Vi has asked them to work together to bring the cottages back to life. The chemistry simmered between Jake and Trisha as they worked side by side renovating the cottages, spent time with Trisha’s son Petey and attended community events. The couple’s slow burn romance was perfectly paced- loved reading how their friendship became so much more.
Love Annie Rains’ descriptive voice. I could picture Jake and Trisha sitting on the dock watching the sunset over Somerset Lake. I could hear Petey asking Jake a zillion questions about fishing, camping and flying. Loved the chapter where Trisha attended Tess’s book club. Trisha expected to be part of a book discussion—she left being part of a circle of supportive friends.
The Summer Cottage pulled at my heartstrings because Trisha made a difficult choice to move from Sweetwater Springs to Somerset Lake. She realized that she and Petey needed a fresh start. I loved the themes of honesty, forgiveness and hope in the novel. Family, home and community were important to Trisha and Jake—this made the book a 5 star read for me!
I adored the author’s Sweetwater Springs series. I am glad I joined Trisha and Petey at Somerset Lake! Loved the characters of Vi, Mr. S, Della Rose and Lucy and can’t wait to read more about them!
I highly recommend The Summer Cottage-- It’s a beautifully written small town romance filled with love, family drama and fantastic characters. Kick off your flip flops, grab a glass of wine and settle in for a heartfelt, sweet romance at Somerset Lake!

Another great read by Annie Rains , she never disappoints. As the story opens Trisha and her Son Perry are moving into a new town in hopes her husbands past will not follow them. Trisha is hired as a property manager for Visiting, the owner of the cottages. She gets in the middle of family drama and also with Video and her grandson Jake. will this work out for Trisha ? Will it be the place her and Perry call home ? Read this first book of the Summerset Lake series, and you will be waiting for the rest of the series as I am. Thank you net galley for allowing me to read and review this book

I really enjoyed this character in another series so I was thrilled she got her own storyline! This was a sweet romance featuring adorable, likable characters. I was rooting for them throughout. I enjoyed the romance, it moves at a nice pace as to be believable without being rushed. The other characters were a hoot and I’m thrilled that this is the start of a new series! I can’t wait to continue on and read more about them. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

I’m a huge fan of Annie Rains and was excited to get into this new series. While I liked getting introduced to this new town and new characters, I feel like I already knew Trish’s story because of the Sweetwater Springs series. That ended up making this book feel repetitive at times. I did really love Jake though and how he constantly challenged Trish to get out of her comfort zone. I am still excited to read the rest of this series since all the new characters introduced are interesting and complex.

Annie Rains is quickly becoming a go-to author for me when I am looking for a lighter, sweeter romance. The Summer Cottage was just that! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it for contemporary romance fans.

Another feel-good romance by Annie Rains! This book is about second chances, family, love, and finding home.
Trisha and her young son, Petey are hoping for a new beginning escaping from the stigma and suspicions because her now ex-husband is in prison for stealing money from people. Hailing from Sweetwater Springs, to nearby Somerset Lake, Josie takes a job as a property manager of rundown resort cottages. Josie helps out the elderly owner, Vi who is recovering from a stroke. Her lawyer grandson Jake, fighting demons of his own, shows up to convince Vi to sell and move to family in Florida but falls in love with Trisha. Together they work to update the cottages to rent and help out Vi, much to the chagrin of Jake’s Uncle Tim. Just while Trisha is learning to trust again, Jake has secrets that may stall their budding romance.
Having read another book by Annie Rains, I was anxious to dive into this one and wasn’t disappointed. I loved that Grandma Vi was quite sharp and should never be underestimated just because she was old. This story was reminiscent of when I lived in small town where there was a strong sense of community everyone knew everyone and wouldn’t hesitate to help others. The characters are just plain good people, except for Uncle Tim who is the antagonist in this story. If you are looking for a pleasant read, you have that that here.
Thanks to #annierains #thesummercottage #netgalley for allowing me to read this book and review.

You get this fun, heartwarming, sometimes emotional, romantic and enjoyable story filled with memorable characters by Annie Rains!
Descriptive writing had me feeling like I knew these characters personally and could see the beautiful setting along the lake.
Jake and Trisha's story is one that grabbed me from the very first page. It's the first book I've read by this author and now I know I will be reading many more!

4.5 stars

This book was so freaking cute. I just love a romance that's sweet and has a cute setting. In this new series from Annie Rains we follow a character that is moving on from Sweetwater Springs and chooses Somerset Lake as her new home. This is great because as someone that read the last Sweetwater Springs book, I was ready for Trisha's book. However, if you haven't read the previous series, you can definitely start here. This is a new story in a new setting and you'll only have brief glimpses at characters from previous books. (I would however recommend Reunited on Dragonfly Lane if you want to meet Trisha and Petey, her son, before they move over to Somerset Lake).

I love the way Trisha really made a home for herself and Petey here. Yes, she did move in order to run away and hide, but, the people in this town make her feel so welcome and truly show her that she can settle down and make a home. I absolutely love the group of women that end up adopting her into their fold. She was definitely reluctant to open up to anyone, but these women make it clear from day one that they are there to support her and help her and truly just be friends to her. I absolutely adored that aspect of the story.

Then we have Jake. Sweet and adorable Jake. I loved him! He comes into town with different plans, but he's quick to adapt and change his plans once he sees that he can make Somerset Lake his home again, that, maybe it's always been his home and it was just waiting for him to be ready. I loved how much he cared for Trisha, but also how well he connected with Petey. He truly connects with him beyond the, "oh I'm dating your mom, so I guess I'll like you" sort of way. I loved that about him.

This book was an absolutely lovely read and I definitely recommend it.

The Summer Cottage was a great book. Annie Rains never disappoints me. It's a book of letting go from your past and letting your heart find love again.

Trisha is looking for a new start with her son after what her husband has put her though. Now she's working as a property manager for Vi's cottages after a stroke and some bad business decisions are causing her family to question whether she should continue to be there alone. Jake is visiting his grandmother's to see how things are going and to work on convincing his grandmother to leave the cottages behind and locate closer to family. He never expected a person like Trisha and her boy to find their way into his heart. But he's only there for a short while and Trisha has a secret and isn't looking for romance.

I loved this book it was just such a great summery type of read. If you are looking for a book to read by the pool side, on the beach or at home in front of the ac pick up this book. I loved the romance forming. It was tough seeing how Trisha and her son dealt with the after math of her husbands choices. They were finally going to get that much needed start. Both mother and child were dealing with trust issues and it was interesting watching them as they open up. Then there was Jake who really wanted what was best for his grand mother and had his uncle just being a pest pushing him to convince the grandmother to get out of there already. I couldn't help but wonder if there really was anything there that made him to pushy. I don't want to talk more about this book just read the book when you can its such a great read. Perfect for the summer if you are looking for an escape.

The Summer Cottage by Annie Rains is the first book in the Somerset Lake series. It was a well developed and thought-out story of summer love. The main characters are Trisha and Jake, although there were others involved in the story. The setting of the book was terrific, a small town, a beautiful lake, and cute lake cabins. Trisha and Jake both are hiding secrets that need to come out and be told. This is a story of trust, letting down walls, and opening their hearts to find love together. The pace of the story was slow but steady. It was an enjoyable story and a good book to read.

Trisha Langley wants to leave her old life behind. She and her son move to Somerset Lake to have a fresh start where no one knows them. Trisha takes on the role of property manager of the Somerset Rental Cottages working for Vi, the owner of the cottages. Vi's family wants her to sell the cottages and send Jake, the hunky grandson, to convince her to do so.

This was a really sweet story. I loved the setting of Somerset Lake. Perfect summer read!

Very cute summer beach read.
This is the first book in the Somerset Lake series.
Our characters are brought to life by the author and very realistic .
New beach cottage property manager Trisha is trying to start over in life with her son after her ex-husband is jailed. She loves the beachy area, her friendly spirited boss and the elderly citizens living in the cottages. And we do meet quite the character who enjoys sleeping on the beach.
She's not so keen on her boss'es grandson, a lawyer from a family of lawyers. What if he discovers her secret she's trying so hard to keep to herself. Even her son is not allowed to talk about this with anyone else.
She just wants a chance to stat over for her and her son.
As she and Jake bond over cottage renovations and common interests she wants to let go and live again but can she trust again? Jake wants to persue a relationship with his grandmother's property manager but he feels like she is hold a secret back from him.
Will thy be able to find the mutual trust they need from each other to make this work out?
I am really looking forward to reading more books in this adorable series.

This book is a lovely romantic read that pulls at your heart strings, heart-wrenching, moving, heartwarming, and so much more! This is the first time I've read anything by Annie Rains and it won't be the last! I found a new favorite author and can't wait to read more by her!

The Summer Cottage is the first novel in Annie Rains new Somerset Lake series. Trisha Langly, along with her young son Petey, have signed on with Vi Fletcher to be the property manager for her cabins on Somerset Lake. They have a cabin on the property and a small salary for this position. But Vi’s family is urging her to sell and move from North Carolina to Florida where the family and its law firm have relocated. Vi is not the least bit interested.

Trisha is escaping a past not of her doing. Her former husband, Peter Lewis, cheated many out of their life savings with his investment schemes. Those in her former town have made her life miserable and she cannot watch her son suffer from this any longer. Moving two hours away to Somerset may just give them a new chance at life.

Not long after Trisha begins her job, Vi’s grandson Jake arrives with his big dog, Bailey, at the cottages. Jake takes up residence in the cottage adjacent to Trisha’s and strikes up a relationship. But is he there on his own or as a family spy?

As Jake works side by side with Trisha to improve the cottages and get full rentals, their relationship grows. However, his family is tunnel visioned when it comes to the property and when Vi suffers a second mini stroke there is little Jake can do. Or is there?

This is a wonderful story of trust, love, and the growth of a relationship that others seem to think shouldn’t be. With surprises and growth from beginning to end this is a very enjoyable book and I certainly recommend it!

This was a DNF for me. I stopped around 55%, I almost stopped earlier but tried to push through but in the end I just didn't really see how much more there was left? Like I couldn't really imagine how much more could reasonably happen in the back half of the book.

If you're into the whole small town romance, single mom with a secretive past though I think you might like it, its just wasn't the book for me.

Thank you for the opportunity to review.

Trisha Langley was looking for a fresh start for her and her young son, Petey, after her ex-husband was imprisoned for embezzling funds from clients. Doesn’t matter that she didn’t know, Trisha still got the side-eye from some and her son was being bullied in school because of it. The ad for a live-in property manager on Somerset Lake couldn’t have come at a better time. No one knows her at Somerset Lake and she immediately bonds with Vi Fletcher, the owner. The cottages may be rundown, but they’re right on the gorgeous lake and Trisha looks forward to the work of sprucing up the cottages.

Somerset Lake holds a lot of bittersweet memories for Jake Fletcher. The family’s rental cottages have fallen into disrepair and his grandmother’s health makes it hard to handle on her own. Jake is sent by his family to convince Vi to sell the cottages and come live with them in Florida. However, when he arrives, he finds a new property manager. She’s beautiful, but he can tell there’s more to her story than she’s letting on.

Somerset Lake sounded magical, a perfect Summer getaway to me! I even loved the sound of the rundown cottages as they got a bit of fixing up. I love a place with character and charm, and the Somerset Cottages were brimming with both!

I was so happy that Trisha’s past wasn’t a long-held secret between Jake and her throughout the story. Instead, Trisha shares as Jake and her bond and become close, as two friends would. The attraction between them was immediate, but both Trisha and Jake were cautious and took it slow. I loved how sweet Jake was with Petey, taking him under his wing.

The Summer Cottage was a low drama, sweet romance set in a picturesque small lake town. We’re introduced to an interesting cast of secondary characters, setting up the series for future installments. I can’t wait for Lucy’s second chance romance, The Christmas Village!

Sweet story and quite an enjoyable read. It is a quick read and would make a great book for poolside or the beach. Characters are likeable, believable and it's a nice flowing story. I really can't say more without giving spoilers. It's all about second chances and learning to trust again. The cover says it all far better than I could. I was invited to read this book and quite happy I was. I was under no obligation to read or review the book. The opinions expressed are my own. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.

Captivating, comforting, and quaint!

The Summer Cottage is a cosy, heartwarming tale that takes you into the life of the cautious, hardworking Trisha Langly as she juggles a relocation, a new job, an inquisitive son, an ex with a criminal past, and a handsome man who is entirely too hard to resist.

The writing is tender and sweet. The characters are kind, tentative, and supportive. And the plot is an irresistible mix of life, loss, love, family, friendship, special moments, trust, respect, community, and self-discovery.

As most of you know, I am a huge fan of Annie Rains and was sad to see the Sweetwater Springs series come to an end, but I am delighted to say this new Somerset Lake series has kicked off with a bang. The Summer Cottage has everything in it I hoped for, small-town charm, an emotive, romantic storyline, and characters new and old that you can’t help but be invested in and root for.

The Summer Cottage (Somerset Lake #1) is a very cute new series from author Annie Rains. Perfect summer beach/pool side read. Definitely a heartwarming, love story about starting over and second chances.
I loved all the characters especially Trisha and her son Petey. The author writes in a way that the characters come to life.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
