The Summer Cottage
Annie Rains
May 25, 2021

In her new Somerset series, The Summer Cottage, Rains takes us on a short journey from Sweetwater Springs where we find Chase’s sister-in-law, Trisha Langly moved to Somerset Lake. She has accepted a new job as property manager for the cottages on the beach. The owner, Vi Fletcher hired her to help rebuild, paint and turn the cottages into rentable properties. She had succumbed to a stroke the year before and could no longer handle the tenants and the rentals. Trisha had been working only a month when Vi’s grandson, Jake, came to see his grandmother. He wants to check on how she is doing healthwise, but the family had intended for him to convince her to put the property on the market and move to Florida with the rest of the family. He met Trisha shortly after arriving in North Carolina. He was not aware of her secret either. that being that her ex was the financial adviser who stole from clients including Vi. Her losses were the reason she couldn’t refurb the cottages. Shortly after, she had a stroke due to stress involved.
We are introduced to new characters and their families, while Uncle Chase and Aunt Sofie pay visits to Somerset. Rain's pleasant way of telling her stories captivate the reader. Her latest flows as others have. The towns are small with people who are friendly and helpful. The reader is easily engrossed in the newest episode. They are enjoyable and comforting to read.
The Summer Cottage by Annie Rains is published by Forever of Hachette Books. It will be released on May 25, 2021. It was my pleasure to read and review The Summer Cottage. I appreciate Forever allowing me to do so via NetGalley. I have heard that Rain's readers are anticipating this new book. If you are a newcomer to her wonderful stories be sure to read this one. They all are excellent novels for a day indoors or a lovely summer day. By all means, Enjoy!

The new series by Annie Rains is a hit! I couldn't put it down. It's a story about second chances in life and love.

Both Jake and Trisha have suffered great personal losses in their lives, making it hard to trust in themselves and others. When they meet the attraction is immediate, but they both need to take a step back and question actions. When you add in family connections, they question their feelings and almost lose the best thing to ever happen to them. A great new 5 star read!

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

New small town- who dis???

Author Annie Rains teased us with hints of Somerset lakes beauty in her last book (Reunited on Dragonfly Lane), but the reality of this new fictional small town is even better!

Recently single mom, Trisha has moved to the idyllic lakeside town of Somerset Lake for her son and her to get a fresh start without her ex husbands crimes tainting them by association.

All is going well until her boss’s grandson, Jake comes to the the cottage complex to talk her into selling the place and Strats snooping into Trisha’s past… Jake soon finds that he doesn’t want his grandmother to sell off the family property and he doesn’t want to run Trisha off either!

Jake turned into such a sweetheart once he decides that Trisha has his grandmother’s interest at heart. I loved how he steps in to be the honest hero that Trisha needs to heal her heart after her experience with her ex. Another huge plus for Jake was how he and Trisha’s son, Petey instantly bond! They are adorable! What woman can hold out from falling for a man who is that good with your child! Swoon worthy.

Since this was a new series, I loved getting to know the small town of Somerset Lake and some of the other characters that I am hoping will get their own HEA’s within the series. The friend group Trisha gets indoctrinated into are are great group of ladies, that will definitely have me coming back to see!

The Summer Cottage by Annie Rains is scheduled to release May 25th, 2021.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Forever Grand Central Publishing through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I had just finished the Sweetwater Springs series by Annie Rains when I noticed this ARC up for grabs. I’m so excited I got it because I love these characters. The Summer Cottage is part of a new spin off series called Somerset Lake. I adore this book and I’m sure I will gobble up the rest of this series just as soon as the books are released.

This book revolves around Trisha. You may remember her from Sweetwater Springs - she is Chase’s ex brother-in-law and she is also Petey’s mom. Trisha runs the women’s shelter and she cleans houses on the weekend because her deadbeat ex-husband stole tons of money from his clients - and the town of Sweetwater Springs just can’t seem to separate her and Petey from her ex. In order to get a clean break, she applies for a job managing lake cabins and she and Petey make the move a few hours away.

Somerset Lake is a wonderful place in North Carolina - everyone is so friendly, including the grandson of the cabins’ owner, who also happens to live next door to Trisha.

This book has some drama - but not too much and it is just so sweet. I can’t wait to read the next books in this series.

I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review. My opinions stated above are mine without biases.

Annie does not disappoint. I am so excited for this cast of characters in Somerset Lake and loved getting another experience with Trisha and Petey. Trisha is new to Somerset Lake and is ready to work on her fresh start after a nasty divorce and a hard time in Sweetwater Springs after her husband wronged so many people. She is a little closed off and not ready to like her boss's grandson, Jake. But when Petey gets involved and new friends make her feel so welcome, it was so much easier for her to take a chance on a true fresh start at both life and love. Fans of Sweetwater Springs and also of small town romances with lots of heart, you need this book.

The Summer Cottage is my first novel by Annie Rains. Thank you Forever for the ARC to read and review.

This is a great beach/summer read. Trisha moves to Somerset Lake with her son Petey to start over. As she begins her job as a property manager at the Somerset Cottages, she meets Jake the owners grandson. They then have to work together to restore the cottages for the summer season.

Great secondary characters and a lovely love story.

Thank you NetGalley, Annie Rains and for the Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of The Summer Cottage. This is my personal review.
Trisha had to change her life after divorcing her husband and she knew she had to move with her son Petey. They both needed to have a fresh start.
She moved them to Somerset Lake – found anew job as a manager at Somerset Cottages. It is a perfect job for her Petey to make a new life. The cottage is rent free, and the pay is enough to cover her expenses. The best part is she bonded with the Vi. The owner of the resort.
When Jake returns to Somerset Lake, he has been sent by the family to help persuade Vi to sell the resort. Jake did not expect to meet Trisha and when he did, he almost instantly felt a spark.
Trisha felt the same thing, but she tried to keep a distance because she did not not anyone to know why she had moved to Somerset.
The chemistry between Jake and Trisha was powerful and it made the story that made me cheer for them.
This is the first book in the new series Sunset Lake. I am excited to read more in this series.

Every time I pick up an Annie Rains book, I know I am going to end my day smiling. In this case, as I read, my emotions ranged from happy to sad to heartbroken back to happy again. There's something about the way that she writes that just speaks to something deep within, like she has peeked inside me and then written a story that I can relate to. It sounds dramatic, but I genuinely feel that she can do this for any read out there. All of her characters are relatable and genuine, and she puts in little aspects in the story that make it shine in a subtle yet brilliant way. Like the neighbor who used to be a nudist and like to relive his youth early in the morning, sleeping nude on the beach. Our heroine has to go wake him up, to make sure he doesn't disturb anyone. It becomes routine, they become friends, and it feels so real. It's small, but it's a constant in the story that brings a smile to my face. It's things like that which make a story go from great to memorable.

Having left Sweetwater Springs just one month earlier, Trisha Langly is still settling in to her new life as property manager of the Somerset Rental Cottages. Having left the memory of her ex-husband and his criminal deeds behind, she hopes to make a new life for her and her son, in a place where no one knows them or their past. She loves her work and her boss, Vi, so when Vi's grandson, Jake Fletcher, arrives, she reluctantly agrees to work with him to restore the cottages to their former glory. Jake, however, has an ulterior motive - he's been tasked by his family to convince Vi to sell and move to Florida. Growing up in Somerset Lake has brought back both good memories and painful ones, and he has no intention of staying any longer than he has to. But as he works together with Trisha, he's reminded of all that he has been missing...and a future that awaits him if he stays. Secrets have a way of coming out though, and when Jake and Trisha discover them, it will take trust and hope to bring them together again.

This is a spin-off of the Sweetwater Springs series, and I have to say it is starting off splendidly. Trisha is a character introduced in previous books, and so I already felt a sort of kinship with her and her son. I wanted them to be okay and to thrive in their new home. It was hard to see how much anxiety she had around people knowing the truth about her husband, and she struggled so much to keep her son happy while also keeping him safe from the opinions of others. Jake didn't know her secret at first, and I was worried that would cause a problem later on in the story. However, the thing about Jake was a genuinely sweet and loving person. He loved kids, had an adorable dog, and wanted his grandmother to be happy. Despite the pain of his past, he found himself falling for Trisha, and my heart ached for them when they had to navigate past obstacles that kept them from seeing their potential as a couple. I actually started to cry at one point, and I rarely cry when I read. But Annie Rains is just that good, because I became so emotionally invested in the characters that their pain became my own. As soon as I put this book down, I knew it would be a favorite of mine for the year.

I am so looking forward to what is next for the Somerset Lake community! The next book is a Christmas romance, and I can't wait to start the holidays off right with an Annie Rains book.

The Summer Cottage is the first book in a new series by Annie Rains. A sweet start to a small town romance series that will make you wish Somerset Lake was the place you called Home.

Trisha and her son Petey moved to Somerset Lake to start fresh and escape the judgement and the weight of her ex-husbands crimes. Jake has returned to Somerset Lake to convince his grandmother, Vi, to retire and sell the family cottages. They start with conflicting end games for the lakeside cottages. When he finds himself working with Trish to restore the cottages he slowly starts to remember why he loved his hometown. But will Trisha's past keep her from fully being able to trust and give away her heart again.

This is a really sweet small town romance. Charming characters and a tight-knit community that I would love to be a part of. The town's book club was wonderful, and I hope all the ladies of the group end up getting their own books in the series. The romances between Jake and Trisha is a slow burn, low angst, low steam journey(I'm talking no more than kisses are exchanged) . Yet I didn't miss the intimacy scenes because the story is filled lots of experiences for them to connect on a more emotional level and build trust between them.

Annie Rains writes one of my favorite small town series, Sweetwater Springs, and I have a feeling that Somerset Lake is going to be right alongside that one. She is my go to for a cozy romance and The Summer Cottage did not disappoint.

Heartfelt story about forgiveness, ;love, and second chances.
Trisha and her son, Petey, have move to a small town to be the property manager of Sommerset Cottages after her husband was sentenced to jail. Trisha and Petey needed a fresh start, and living on the lake with the elderly owner, Vi, seems like the perfect place. That is until Vi's grandson, Jake, comes to check on things and convince her to sell the cottages and move to Florida with the rest of the family. After a bit, sparks fly between Jake and Trisha, and things are starting to look up. That is until the secrets of her past come out. Will the town, and Jake and Vi, still welcome her and Petey into their folds when they find out what her ex-husband did?
Quick read that leaves you with renewed faith in people.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Summer Cottage by Annie Rains. I loved the description of Somerset Lake, the cottages by the lake, the plane they soared in. The descriptions were beautiful made you feel like you were there in the air soaring with him. I loved the Sweetwater Springs series especially the Christmas books. I loved being introduced to all the new characters in the town the book club that was a women’s club where they seemed to be able to tell each other everything. And Friday summer nites in the town with a music, picnics and dancing. If you loved Sweetwater Springs you will love the First book of the Somerset Lake series. I cannot wait to read the next book.

This is the first book in a new series by Annie Rains and I am hooked! The story is about starting over, learning to trust, taking chances, moving on, belonging, and family. There’s a tie to the Sweetwater Springs series, for fans of those books, but it’s not necessary to have read that series first. This new series is filled with new and entertaining characters, a beautiful location, and wonderful friends. It’s emotional and entertaining, and I look forward to spending more time in Somerset Lake!
