WOW, what a phenomenal book! Alice and Leo move into an exclusive neighborhood in London where everyone knows everything before it even happens. What Alice doesn't know is the previous wife was murdered there. Alice is bound and determined to get to the bottom of this. She is fit to be tied that Leo didn't tell her this. The ladies in the "Circle" are not being too friendly either. Will Alice be able to fine out who did it, or will she put herself in arms way. This book was pretty good. It started out slow, but ended with bang.

So, there was something about The Therapist by B.A. Paris that got my back up as soon as I started reading it. Something that didn’t sit quite right with me and unfortunately, it wasn’t the suspense of it all.
If I tell you, however, I’ll ruin it for those of you who haven’t read it. Let’s just say that I guessed two things right off the bat and was right on the money.
That aside, I enjoyed the mystery at first and was excited for what was to come.
Alice and Leo are partners, who move into The Circle, an exclusive neighborhood in London. Shortly after moving in, however, Alice finds out that their beautiful new home was the scene of a brutal murder of a woman named Nina and Alice becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to her.
Shocking though it may seem, Strange things are afoot at The Circle.
Though given fair warning, Alice can’t seem to mind her own business. Soon, she begins suspecting all of her new friends and neighbors of being responsible for Nina’s death, and her thoughts range from mildly suspicious to wholly outlandish. As a translator, who makes a good living, she could, of course, escape this whole business and leave The Circle and its inhabitants behind, but instead chooses to stay on, which truly boggles the mind. Admittedly, her choices and suspicions had me shaking my head in disbelief.
A novel that started out fairly strong, but lost me along the way. B.A. Paris is an author whose early novels I really enjoyed and whose later novels have been hit and miss for me. This one was definitely a miss. If you don’t mind suspending disbelief, you might enjoy this more than I did.
A buddy read with Ms. Kaceey.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the arc.
Published on Goodreads, Twitter, and Instagram for the arc.
B.A. Paris takes what we all want, the desire to be part of the "Group" and turns it on its head. There is the rush of a new house, a wanting to make things perfect, and then out of the blue, a murder, secrets, and Oh, My.
Another great thriller by BA Paris. This book felt like a tennis match, going back and forth between who you think the murderer could be. I had to keep reading to find out who it actually was. In typical thriller fashion there was a nice twist at the end.
One of the worst things in a domestic thrillers/suspense, is when the story takes a slow and boring turn, after an intriguing prologue that gives the impression of a fast paced read.
Unfortunately, I grew bored as soon as Alice & Leo decided to invite the neighbours for drinks. I had zero interest in reading about mundane things like the renovations that were done to the house, or small talk between neighbours.
Those who appreciate slow burn reads will enjoy this, but it wasn’t for me.
This book is not for me. Synopsis sounded better than book ended up being. I feel that this authors books are getting worse as she writes more, instead of better. I appreciate rather opportunity to read it, thank you to NetGalley & the publisher.
I am no stranger to books by B.A. Paris and she is one of my go to authors, so of course I was thrilled to find out about her latest novel The Therapist.
I loved reading about Alice and her experiences of living in the tight-knit community in The Circle. A close group of friends/neighbours where Alice finds herself the newbie – the newest member of The Circle community. It is clear there are secrets and things that everyone else in The Circle is aware of that Alice herself is not privy to, and this adds to all of the suspense of the novel as Alice tries to catch up on what those secrets are and tries to uncover all the truths that everyone else seems to determined to keep locked up and hidden.
A whirlwind of secrets, lies and betrayals are slowly revealed and I was hooked from the first page. I couldn’t read the pages fast enough and flew through this novel.
A fabulous read that you must add to your TBR now if you haven’t read this book yet! You will not be disappointed! I’m looking forward to the next novel by B.A. Paris.
Ok so this is my Fourth book by this author and to be honest I have loved them all!
The Therapist is about a long distance relationship. They decide to buy a home and move in together. This is where secrets and twists begin and it will keep you wondering. I loved the ending and I did not expect it to end the way it did.
If you love thrillers I highly recommend this book!
Thanks to Netgalley for my free copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Really enjoyed this one! BA Paris always writes great psychological thrillers and this one is no different. I had a little inkling as to who the bad guy was going to be, but there were still a lot of surprises that kept me guessing. The ending was crazy and stressful- exactly what I want out of a thriller!
I absolutely love this author and this book is another winner, Fantastic! Thank you netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange of an honest review.
I enjoyed this psychological suspense for it’s easy and entertaining plot and unlikable characters with an intense setting to get lost in. I sat back, read, and gave that over thinker in me a rest. So I am not going to overthink this review by delving deep into anything. Like my reading Sister Lindsay said in her review, there isn’t much to think about here, and like her, I loved that about the story. Sometimes that all is needed in a good book.
I loved the setting with the closed vibe of the sought-after gated community of “The Circle” that our main character Alice is not feeling is so sought-after moving in. Her newly renovated dream home holds a shocking secret, and she tries to find more about what happened to the therapist Nina who lived there. Things start to spiral out of control, and those twists and turns kept me on my toes right up to the hard to buy into but entertaining and satisfying ending.
I highly recommend it for a fun distraction from the world around you and not to over think this one!!
Love B.A. Paris, liked The Therapist, but I wanted to reach into the book and throttle Alice lol. But, somehow she worked.
A intriguing story of a couple that moves into a home where a murder occured. Soon the neighbors are involved and their dream home becomes a place of mysterious happenings and questions unanswered. Secrets abound and as they investigate the victims they become obsessed in solving the murder.
I like this as a fast paced good beach read. The charcters were not that likable but the premise of the book makes for a interesting read.
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley. I gave it 4 stars for the intrigue and uniqueness of the plot.
Imagine moving into a home and discovering a brutal murder took place in your bedroom.Would you move? Would you feel betrayed that your significant other didn't tell you?
Alice is excited to move into a newly renovated home in a very upscale community. The neighbors all seem so nice but Alice soon discovers they are keeping a secret, one that will change everything. Dreams of a future in her new home change to investigative work trying to put the pieces together as to what happened. Alice discovers a therapist named Nina used to own her home and was murdered there. There is a man in jail for the crime but his sister has hired a P.I. to help find the real killer because she knows her brother is innocent. Alice feels betrayed and hurt that she didn't know about the murder before she moved in and frankly doesn't feel comfortable living there knowing the details of what happened. She can't go back to her own place because she has leased it out so she will stay and try to help bring the real killer to justice. The more she finds out the more she thinks she knows who the killer was....but she might have it al wrong.
*I received a free copy of this novel from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my honest review.*
Alice and Leo are moving in together after long distance dating for a year or more. Leo buys a house and has renovations done without Alice seeing it in person and Alice is able to keep her family home outside of London while they settle in. The new home is in a gated street community for safety, but Alice is having a hard time connecting with the neighbors. And then Alice is devastated with news about a tragedy that happened in the home.
As Alice begins to gather info about the tragedy and whether Leo was aware of it before purchasing the house, everyone becomes a suspect of something. Everyone! There was so much info coming at Alice and everything was pointing to someone different. And because Alice moved into the house without knowing of the tragedy, she was off putting to some of the residents of the community thinking she was cold hearted and uncaring. Something that could not have been further from the truth.
There were some great twists and misdirection through out the novel and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! I enjoy reading Paris' novels as they are well paced and I really feel like I know what the MC is feeling and thinking. And some points still give me the willies!
I’ve read a few of B.A. Paris’ novels now, including Behind Closed Doors and Bring Me Back and The Dilemma, and they’re always good thrillers that are easy to speed through. So it was a no-brainer when I was offered The Therapist and I have to say each book gets better than the last. The Therapist is my favorite of her novels by far (although Bring Me Back is also up there)!
A couple (Alice and Leo) move into a private, gated community only to discover the former tenant of their new home (Nina) was brutally murdered. As Alice gets to know her neighbors, she begins digging into Nina’s life and questioning who murdered her. Everyone in the community is a suspect—even Alice’s own fiancé!
Alice begins to uncover all sorts of deceptions and strange connections between the neighbors. It seems everyone’s spouse was interested in Nina and no one wanted to talk about the murder as if they could just pretend it didn’t happen. The detailed description of The Circle (the gated community) added so much to this narrative, but also added a realistic creep-factor. Having all of the houses built in a circle around a small park space makes total sense when house hunting for a family-friendly community, but B.A. Paris really showed the other side of that in which all of the neighbors can watch and monitor everyone else’s homes. This is one thing that has definitely stuck with me as I’m in the middle of my own house hunt!
The Therapist was a bit lighter (and less disturbing) than some of the typical psychological thrillers I read, which made it a really fun and easy read. Yet, it still had so many surprises! It kept me guessing at every turn and I really felt like Alice, only figuring out what was going on as she did. I try to keep my reviews spoiler-free, so I’ll just say that was seriously floored by this novel! I did not see those final twists coming. This one was definitely one of my favorite books of the summer and of #SRC2021!
This was my first book by B.A. Paris, but it won't be my last! This was an excellent slow burn, with an interesting cast of characters. I enjoyed the main character, although admittedly, sometimes I wanted to give her a bit of a shake! :) I thought I had figured out the mystery at about 52%, but of course, I was wrong. There were a number of twists that kept me guessing, and the ending was definitely a surprise. A great read!!
This book was provided to me compliments of #NetGalley for my honest opinion.
B.A.Paris knows what you like and how to draw you in. This one is a must read.
Leo buys a big house in London so he and his girlfriend, Alice, can live together. It’s in a gated community. One day Alice invites the neighbors for a drinks evening. Most of them come but so does a gate crasher who she thinks is a husband of one of her neighbors. She shows him how they’ve opened up the bedrooms to make a bigger space. Then she doesn’t see him again that evening.
Leo has kept lots of secrets from Alice, most of which are too much for her to bear. She moves out of their bedroom.
Of course, there’s more, but I’ll let you read it for yourself. I normally really like how Paris handles characters and their flaws, but Alice was just too undecided about everything. Until about halfway through the pages, I was confused about all the couples’ names and who was who.
Other than those two issues, the book read fast and smooth. It kept you guessing because almost everyone had a motive to be the killer. If you’ve not read Paris before, please pick this one up. You won’t regret it.
The Therapist was not a book that drew me in.
I had a very hard time getting into the plot.
The characters were not very engaging. The main character, Alice, really started getting on my nerves which made it hard to keep reading.
This may be a book others will enjoy. It just wasn’t for me.
I would like to read more from the author.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
