Quick and predictable read. Not my favorite B.A. Paris book but also not the worst book I’ve read. I would wait until you can get this one from the library.
Whoa! B.A. Paris does not disappoint! I've loved all of her books. The main character was oblivious to so many things and that really irritated me about her. I didn't see the ending coming at all. So many twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I could not put it down and was sad when the book ended!
I've been a fan of B.A. Paris since Behind Closed Doors. I've been anticipating this book (just like all of the others before and those yet to come) and I can tell you it didn't fall short of anything other than captivating. It was truly a great addition to the other books by B.A. Paris. She's an author you need on your auto-read list because all of her books are great ones.
The Therapist, the new novel from B.A. Paris, doe not disappoint. Alice and Leo move into a beautiful new house to start their life together, but Alice is not aware of the secret the house holds. As Alice meets her new neighbors she learns of a murder that took place in her.new home and becomes obsessed trying to solve the mystery. Will Alice risk it all to find her answers?
This was a page turner for sure! Full of twists and turns. A few I had figured out in advance but definitely not all. The suspense just keeps building until the very end. You keep wondering who is telling the truth and who’s not as nice as they pretend to be. Highly recommend. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was not my favorite of BA Paris’ books. The pace was a little slow, and there were so many telephone conversations that it started to take away from the action. I found it hard to relate to the main character as I didn’t find her motivation for being so obsessed with the murder at issue to be believable. However, the ending was great and I loved the way the author tied up all of the loose ends.
Thank you to Netgalley for sending me an advanced copy of The Therapist to read in exchange for an honest review.
This book is about Alice and Leo, who move into a house in what is known as "the circle". The circle is 12 houses in a hated community. Alice finds out soon after moving that the former owner was murdered in the house and she is determined to find our what happened. The book is broken into past and present. There are only a few past entries and you don't find out whose point of view of it is until later on.
This was not my favorite B.A. Paris book, as that one is still The Breakdown, but if was still a very good book. There were a few twists, which the author is known for. This one felt more like a slow burn instead of fast paced like the others. I did like how just when I thought I had it figured out, the twist came and I was completely wrong. Of you are a fan of his former books, you'll enjoy this one as well.
Alice and Leo move into a house built in a community called The Circle. As Alice starts to get to attempt to get to know her neighbors she senses some coolness from them. Confused by this, she begins to wonder about the previous owner and as she asks about her she finds lies and resentment.
This seemed to me an unbelievable story but it was interesting and fun to read so I give it 4 stars.
This was not my favorite of BA Paris's novels, but still a really solid psych-thriller. I enjoyed the opportunity to read an ARC.
I had high hopes for this book because I love psychological thrillers and especially British ones. I was drawn in by the cover on the book, although it's quite deceiving. I gave it three stars because the author manages to bring in something clever just when the heroine, Alice, is beginning to become too stupid to be believed.
Alice uproots herself from her home town and life to move to London with a guy she barely knows - from a few weekends relationship - and allows him to buy a house which they move into in a locked gate community in London. She translates books from foreign languages into English so her work is transportable while his is questionable and some kind of "consulting" which no woman in her thirties would buy as a real job. Alice is desperate to make friends, but the women in The Circle, as this community is called, are stand-offish and loathe to be friendly even though Alice invites all the couples over for drinks. She doesn't understand why her boyfriend, Leo of the mysterious job that takes him way for most of the week, doesn't want to get to know the neighbors, considering he was so anxious to buy this particular house.
And so it goes...finally, we find out that the woman of the house who lived there before was murdered, supposedly by her husband, who later committed suicide. Alice is furious at Leo for not telling her, while he's fine with it all because the house was for sale on the cheap. Now, I'm not sure if I could live in a house where there'd been a recent murder, but given that there was remodeling and an extensive re-painting, we know that Alice isn't being forced into living in the middle of the crime scene. However, it's the beginning of the end for her relationship with Leo as she moves downstairs into the "office" and sleeps on the pull-out.\
I found her acceptance of a white rose left in the hallway outside her door, and the appearance of a bottle of champagne in the fridge, along with blonde hairs everywhere, along with her internal rationalizations for them adolescent at best, rather than psychologically disturbing. She kept waking up, believing/feeling someone was in the room and watching her sleep. The murdered woman had reported to her friends the same thing. And yet she tells herself that Leo is doing these things - putting blonde hairs all over the kitchen to spook her? Or that her hair was falling out from stress? If someone is trying to scare someone else, or rattle them mentally, to me a white rose and a bottle of champagne aren't the calling cards I'd use, but whatever.
Also, having five other couples to keep track of was too many in the hope of having "suspects".
Nor did I find the wrap-up of Alice's emotional explanation as to why she couldn't forgive Leo in the end, after we find out who the villain of the story really is, believable. And I really, really, wanted to. It was just disappointing. But, three stars for portraying a woman in her thirties who was willing to settle for the "maybe" guy instead of the "right" guy and how she managed to get out of it.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley and this is my honest review. I wasn't required to give any review at all.
Alice and Leo move into The Circle, a seemingly perfect gated neighborhood with beautifully nice people. However, things are not always what they seem, as Alice finds out quite quickly. There is a secret about Alice's new home. As Alice meets the neighbors and tries to fit in, she becomes determined to find out the secrets about the home and what happened there two years earlier. It seems that there are people who would rather let the mystery rest. Are they trying to scare Alice so that she stops searching for answers? Is Alice imagining things because she's still hurting from losing her parents and sister so long ago? Who should Alice trust?
Another great book by B. A. Paris!! This one keeps you guessing. You may know who is responsible, but you will never guess why!!!!
4.5 stars. There were 2 HUGE twists at the end of the book I didn’t see coming. I liked the book overall. I didn’t fall in love with the characters, which put my interest in well being a little lower than a 5 star. Overall B. A. Paris did it again with another great read. Thank you to Netgalley for the early read.
Another great read from B.A. Paris. This story takes place in a mysterious house in the ideal neighborhood where everyone wants to live. Alice and Leo move in and strange things begin to happen. Then, Alice learns the truth about the house. Alice’s journey for the truth takes her into some troubling situations.
I received an ARC of The Therapist in exchange for an honest review, and was so excited as B.A. Paris is one of my favorite authors. Her book, Behind Closed Doors, is one of the best psychological thrillers. However, although The Therapist is listed as a psychological thriller, I would classify it as a murder mystery. While this book is a quick read, as most of her books are, it's definitely not an edge of your seat, can't wait to get back to it kind of book. I have ranked most of her books 5 stars, except for The Breakdown and The Therapist. The Therapist is about Alice, trying to solve a murder that took place in the house that she just moved in to. Alice is also a little hard to take in--who would continue to stay in a house if they thought someone was coming in at night while you are sleeping? The book also takes off a little slow, and never really quite gets very suspenseful. While I will continue to read books by B.A. Paris, I would not recommend that this be one of the first books you ever read by her.
Alice and her boyfriend Leo just moved in together, into a gated community called The Circle. With the neighbors whispering behind her back, Alice knows something has to be up with their house - and soon finds out that the former owner, a therapist named Nina, was murdered in the upstairs bedroom. Initially, Alice insists she can't stay in the house a minute longer... but after asking a few questions about Nina, she begins to feel a connection to her - and she's not sure Nina's husband was really the killer. Alice soon finds herself falling down a rabbit hole, and it seems like her new neighbors have a lot to hide...
As a psychologist myself, I was excited to read this book. I enjoyed it, despite having a difficult time connecting with Alice and her choices throughout the novel. I guessed some of the twists, but others left me reeling. I definitely had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to know everything! If you liked B.A. Paris' other books, definitely pick this one up! You won't be disappointed.
Alice and Leo feel fortunate to be able to afford a home in a gated community. What Alice doesn't realize is the reason the house sat empty for over a year and was such a good price. Alice tries to figure out the secrets of their new house. The neighbors are secretive and not helpful in Alice's quest for truth. There were great twists and turns and even though I actually figured things out, I did enjoy the book. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
This is not the first book that I read by B.A. Paris, so I had an idea of what to expect I love a psychological thriller, and this one does not disappoint. In this book, a couple moves to a closed neighborhood called The Circle. But the woman finds out that a terrible crime took place in the house they moved to (no wonder they managed to get such a good deal), and after some time she becomes obsessed with trying to investigate the crime further. But things were not exactly how they seemed to be, and she ends up even more tangled in the story and in the social life they have in The Circle.
Wow... what a fantastic read!!!!!
Love this author pulls you in and holds your attention like no other. Just a great book I could not put this one down. Twists were awesome and nothing I saw coming.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.
B.A. Paris has done it again with her latest thriller, The Therapist. Partners Alice and Leo move into a new home in a small gated community and, soon after, Alice begins seeing that things aren't what they seem and that there appears to be a secret among the residents regarding their new home. Because of a prior trauma of her own, Alice begins pursuing the truth about her home's past residents. The Therapist is a slow moving ride through an upscale neighborhood with lovely neighbors, shops, and views until, at the end, it begins to twist, dip, and turn to the shocking, heart-pounding conclusion that will have you absolutely on the edge of your seat. As with all of Ms. Paris' books, I highly recommend The Therapist.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quick read for me. A lot of questions, twists, and turn. Who is who? Overall it was a fun quick read but not too unpredictable or WOW -factor.
