Alice and Leo have been in a long distance relationship for two years and have decided to move to the next step, and Leo picks out a beautiful house in London in a gated community called The Circle. The neighbors seem to be a close knit group and as Alice and Leo become acquainted with them, secrets come to light. Nina Maxwell and her husband Oliver lived in their house prior. Alice finds out that Nina was murdered in that house and her husband, Oliver, was suspected of murdering her and ended up killing himself. As Alice begins to ask questions, the neighbors begin to get aggravated and really do not want to discuss the murder. Alice cannot seem to accept that Oliver murdered his wife. She begins to suspect various people in the neighborhood and tries to find out what really happened to Nina. Is the killer living among them? Was it someone else? The twists and turns make this book a quick read and will have you guessing until the end about what happened to Nina! B.A. Paris is one of my favorite authors and did not disappoint once again! Thanks to #NetGalley #StMartinsPress for the ARC. #TheTherapist
I liked this a lot, though it wasn't quite what I expected. The title had me thinking it would be something different from what it was (I don't want to say more because of spoilers), but the book was certainly suspenseful and gripping. I liked Alice and sympathized with her. I did find it a bit of a stretch that she became involved in the murder case of a woman named Nina largely because her late sister's name was also Nina, but I think you get a better understanding of this at the end when more information comes to light.
B. A. Paris has quickly become my top 5 favorite authors. The books are guaranteed to keep me on my toes questioning every single character's motives--including the main one who seems innocent of any of the random things that are happening in his/her life. It is so difficult to put down books by this author. (Fortunately my husband doesn't mind cooking dinner now and then. )
I loved the character development in this book. It certainly adds to the story as most people do things that are questionable now and then, but in a story of this caliber, the actions throw in quite a number of red herrings. While one of the people I guessed might be responsible, was, that person was one of the many I suspected it could have been, and I was never sure. There were also some totally unexpected developments along the way.
This is definitely another 5-star page turner.
Another great book by B.A. Paris! I will say that it had a bit of a slow build up as we learn the characters and dynamics of The Circle which is the neighborhood this story takes place in. Once I got toward the middle of the book I realized the time that was given to learning the characters was necessary to fully understand where the story was heading. I looked forward to reading each day that I had a chance to pick up this book.
A couple (Alice and Leo) move in together into a home that is in a gated community with only nine homes in it. Apparently, with a community so small, everyone knows what is going on with each other. The cliques are already in place as most of the residents have lived there for some time now. They all knew the previous residents of home Number 6. A tragedy happened at that residence before the new couple bought it, unbeknownst to Alice. Leo knew about it before buying the house but failed to tell Alice. Once Alice finds out about this, she is on a mission from day one to find out who killed the previous female resident. She is told the killer was the female resident's husband but she is not convinced.
Due to Alice's psychological issues with a past trauma she suffered with her parents and sister she is even more propelled in the direction of solving this crime she knows was not investigated properly. Throughout her investigation she runs into roadblocks and angry people. People who do not want this revisited. The story moves forward and does not really lag in areas which is always enjoyable. The ending was satisfying and gave good closure.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Love this author, Love this book. Cannot wait for many more books to come out by this extremely talented author. Kept me interested until the very last page!
Alice moves to a new neighborhood and soon discovers her husband has kept a secret from her, that a murder had taken place in their new house. Suspicious things begin happening and she doesn't know who to trust - everyone in the neighborhood is suspect.
Towards the middle of this book, it got a bit repetitive and I found myself losing interest. The neighbors all started running together in my head since there was nothing really distinguishing about any of them - except perhaps Tamsin, since she was aggressively angry towards Alice. But it did pick up again towards the end, and overall I enjoyed this book.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
* Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I don't think B.A. Paris can write a bad book! The Therapist was fantastic. Five stars and will be purchasing for the library collection.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
I’ve been a fan of B.A. Paris since Behind Closed Doors and was excited to check out her new book. The suspicion starts almost immediately, and you find yourself second-guessing everything.
The plot:
Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in a gated community called “The Circle”. At first, Alice is delighted to be making new friends in the neighborhood and to be living with her formerly long-distance beau. She then finds out that the reason they were able to get the house for so cheap was because a woman was murdered in her home. As Alice’s obsession with finding out who the killer was grows, she increasingly finds out that things are not what they seem...
What I liked:
It was a fun read, perfect for a long trip or a beach/poolside hang. I finished it in one sitting and fairly quickly and didn’t entirely see the ending coming.
What I didn't like:
Besides the fact that it seems HIGHLY unlikely that a group of neighbors would spend every waking second together (don’t these people have friends outside of their block??), I felt like parts of this story seemed convenient. Why on earth does Alice not leave the house? Also, and this was a small thing that took me out of the story in a big way - one of the Londoners referred to a run she took as being “5 miles”. Considering how only three countries in the world use the imperial system (U.S., Liberia, and Myanmar, in case you were wondering), this was again, unlikely.
Complaints aside, I didn’t hate this book and found it to be fun enough to round up to three full stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for sharing a digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Unfortunately this book just did not pull me in. I kept thinking the storyline would get more depth but all I found was the main character irritating, insecure and unlikable. I am an avid reader and have decided if the book is not enjoyable and fun or interesting to read, I will not feel bad about being truthful in my review and calling it quits.
I am sure many others may enjoy this one if you enjoy a soap opera, drama filled story.
The best I can do is 2 stars for effort.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I have enjoyed previous books by this author but this was not her best. I enjoyed the beginning but lost interest.
Alice and her boyfriend, Leo, move into a gated community in London called "the Circle". Alice finds out that the previous person who lived there was murdered in the master bedroom. Leo knew about this but did not tell her.
Alice goes on a mission to find out who really killed Nina and suspects just about everyone she meets. She just is so annoying and got on my nerves.
Nina was a therapist. She is dead, murdered by her husband Oliver who then committed suicide.
Of course, when Alice and Leo move into a dream house on The Circle, an exclusive gated street in London, Alice doesn’t know this. Leo hasn’t told her. He thought she might be upset to learn that a woman was tortured and killed in their master bedroom. He’s right and soon Leo is spending his nights either with friends or on business travel and Alice is sleeping on a couch in the downstairs study. While Alice begins to obsess about Nina’s murder, creepy things start to happen on The Circle. If Oliver, described by all as loving and kind, didn’t kill his wife, who did? Was it one of the neighbors? Was it a mystery attacker? Why did he/she cut off Nina’s hair? Could they all be targeted. And…who does Alice hear in the house at night?
All questions will be answered before the explosive conclusion of The Therapist. Dark, misleading and intense, this thriller is B.A. Park’s best. You won’t be able to figure it out and you won’t be able to put it down. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and B.A. Parks for this ARC.
B.A.Paris never disappoints! The Therapist has twists and turns and interesting characters. Even if I realized the ending I wanted to keep reading to see what else would happen. I recommend this book to everyone. You will not be disappointed.
Alice and Leo move to a house in a gated community called The Circle near London. Leo never informed Alice that Nina, a therapist, was murdered in their house. When Alice finds out she is obsessed to figure out which of her interesting neighbors might be the murderer. They all seem to be harboring secrets.
This psychological thriller kept the pages turning to the surprise ending. B.A. Paris is a master storyteller and she made all the characters seem like suspects to me. I was hooked from the start and I am looking forward to reading more books by Paris in the future. Highly recommend! I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a free copy for an honest review.
Wow! I could not put this book down and read it in one day! There were so many possible endings, but I sure didn’t see this one! Loved it! This has so any emotional elements in it...romance, heartbreak, family drama, tension, and fear! You won’t regret reading this one!
Another great red from BA Paris!!
I love how I could not figure out what was happening in this book until the very end.... as someone who reads a lot of thrillers, this is very important when I am recommending a book
Five stars!!!
B.A. Paris has given us another psychological thriller. When Leo and Alice decide to move in together, they buy a house in a gated community called the Circle. When Alice finds out that the house had a murder committed there, she tries to find out what happened, but the neighbors won’t talk. Alice becomes obsessed with Nina, the therapist who was murdered. Who can she trust? Everyone in the Circle is a suspect. Will Alice figure out what happened to Nina?
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this one at all. The introduction had way too many characters to follow and I just did not see where this was going.
Wow, just, wow! Five stars. B.A. Paris has delivered, yet again. I think this one is by far one of her best books. It truly is a masterpiece of suspense and the plot twists were incredibly executed. A book that has you suspecting everyone murdered Nina Maxwell. I was unable to stop reading this ebook. I was hooked immediately. A true nail-biting, suspenseful psychological thriller. I highly expect this novel to the hottest book this summer and will be recommending it to anyone that will listen to me.
Thank you B.A. Paris, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the ebook ARC of this book.
Paris is at it again with great characters and a thrilling mystery. True to form, the clues are embedded so well that the reader forms multiple theories, constantly changing, before receiving a twisty punch that leaves them reeling. I read this in one day because I couldn’t put it down.
