B. A. Paris has done it again. No matter how many time I think I got close to guessing the ending, there was always one more twist to have me doubting who to trust. The large cast of characters gave plenty of options to place blame, and even Alice gives the reader something to think about in terms of her role as a reliable narrator. Overall another home run suspenseful thriller!
Thank you to netgalley.com for the ARC.
Another great, page turner from BA Paris. These books never fail to disappoint. They keep you guessing and wanting to read more throughout the book. This one is the story of a couple moving into a small, gated community and what happens once they move in. Everyone has secrets and you can't trust anyone.
Definitely another win for the author!
Whew! This was such a quick and easy read! I flew threw the pages. I needed to know what happened next!
Leo and Alice moved into a house with a dark past but in a seemingly nice neighborhood. The house was previously owned by Nina and Oliver. Nina was then murdered and Oliver, who eventually committed suicide, was the prime suspect. All of the neighbors are seemingly suspicious and Alice finds herself obsessed with Nina and finding out who killed her. Was it actually Oliver? Was it one of her neighbors who (mostly) were so welcoming? Or Could the murderer be closer to her than she thought?
Talk about chilling! I stayed up pretty late to finish this and couldn’t help looking over my shoulder. It’s been a while since a book made me do that. It was borderline scary. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
There were a lot of side characters, like Alice’s friends from back home and her neighbors, but it was so easy to follow. I did find myself enjoying all of the characters, except maybe Tamesin. All were relateable and likeable.
I would recommend this book! Highly, actually.
This was a fun and quick read! I flew through it and it was just one of those you jump in and don’t put down, you don’t stop and think you just read!
The story introduces a couple named Leo and Alice that have been dating long distance and have finally decided to move into a new home together. The house is in a gated community called a The Circle and everyone knows everyone. Alice later learns that a woman who was a therapist named Nina was murdered in the home she is now living in. She becomes incredibly obsessed with the murder and everyone seems to be a suspect in her mind. It goes round and round for a bit but the big reveal in the end was a nice twist. It wasn’t anything too exhilarating or dark but it was entertaining and worth the read.
Thank you to Netgalley and St Martin’s Press for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
B A Paris doesn't disappoint with her latest thriller. Readers watch the beginning of Alice and Leo's new life together as they move into a new gated community together. Alice realizes that she needs to try to fit in with this tight knit group of neighbors but there seems to be a dark shadow that looms over her home. When Alice discovers that Leo knew that a woman and former owner of the house is murdered supposedly by her husband who then kills himself, she becomes spooked. She questions her relationship, her new residence and the secrets that seem to loom over the neighborhood. In a quest for answers, the readers are taken through twists and turns until the truth is finally revealed. Wow.
Am I surprised at all that I loved this book? Nope. Its from B.A Paris and honeslty if I see her name, I know I am going to love it.
So this book centers around a couple. Leo and Alice. They had been doing the long distance relationship thing for a while and decided (at Leo's urging) to move in together. Leo takes charge and finds what he thinks is the perfect house. Its in a gated community and its actually called "The Circle" because the houses are all, yep you guessed in, in a circle.
However, Leo fails to mention that the house he bought, well its last owners, well basically both died. The wife Nina was killed by her husband Oliver and Oliver killed himself. The problem is from what everyone says, it doesn't seem quiet possible that Oliver killed Nina. Plus Alice starts noticing weird things going on in her house as well.
I'm sorry if I made it feel like a ghost story. It isn't. Its a great thriller, because that is what B.A Paris does! However, in this book I think she out did herself. Looking back, its so painfully obvious what the "twist" is. I mean she puts it right there in your face! Paris toys with you though. While she's bascially telling you who the "villian" is, she is also planting other red herrings in your mind. Honestly, every one, EVERYONE seems guilty.
But like I said, when the big reveal comes, you will find yourself smacking yourself on the head saying "OMG How did I miss this??"
To me, that is a sign of a great book! As I have come to expect in her books, the characters are always well written and you do come to like some of them. What I love even more, is that I actually felt guility at the end of the book for suspecting some of the characters I suspected!
Seriously, add this to your TBR now!
Thank you so much to #Netgalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC.
BA Paris is always a hit or miss for me. I loved a couple of her books, disliked a couple. Unfortunately this was a dislike for me; felt very very done.
Leo and Alice are in a long distance relationship when they finally decide to purchase a home and move in together. Leo buys this house so Alice doesn’t have to sell her cottage. However, Leo is keeping a big secret about the house.
When Alice discovers the secret she is not happy about it and it changes their lives forever.
I am keeping the synopsis short to avoid giving away any spoilers. This was the second book I’ve read by the author and I was excited to read it. The book had so many twists and turns which had my guessing the whole time. This also made me want to keep reading to find out how it was going to end. I certainly could not have predicted the ending. I would highly recommend this to thriller lovers like me.
Oh man this was so good and I thought I knew what was going on but was I mistaken. I love stories where the puzzle pieces don’t come together until right at the end and throws a curve ball at you where you don’t see the villain coming. Alice and Leo move in their newly renovated home inside The Circle which is an exclusive gated community in the middle of London. Its everything that anybody could ask for except for the little fact that the previous owner was murdered in the house and her husband was the prime suspect who later committed suicide before any prosecution. While getting to know her neighbors she finds that she feels a strong connection to Nina the therapist who lived there and who share a name with her dead older sister which is where the connection comes from. Alice becomes obsessed with piecing together what happened to Nina and what secrets everyone is keeping. This was so good and there is so many twists and turns throughout the book that with every reveal you think you know who the killer is and what is going on only to be turned around and something else pops up that opens up a whole new avenue of thought. A really great read and I can’t wait to read another book by this author.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy.
This book hooked me from the start. Although it took a little time to invest in some of the characters, I immediately started hypothesizing about what was actually happening. There were parts of the book that creeped me out to the point that I had to put it down for a bit. I enjoyed how much I was able to get into it.
I have read other books by this author before and like those, The Therapist does not disappoint. The only semi-negative thing I can say is that there were several typos and grammatical errors that must have been overlooked by the editor. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to reading another by this author!
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC! So many things about this amazing book! For me this one ranks right up there with The Breakdown!!!
Moving into a new home in The Circle with her boyfriend should have been bliss but things immediately start falling apart, weird things start happening and then she finds out secrets and lies, but she was also gullible and determined to find out the truth, she had no idea what she was in for. The big reveal was soo worth it!!
Absolutely love this one and it’s 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WOW, all I can say is WOW! This is one you definitely don't want to miss! B.A. Paris has done it again - this book was fantastic! Heart pounding, edge of my seat suspense that I couldn't put down. Leo and Alice have been long-distance partners and finally decide to take the leap and move in together in London. They are able to get a beautiful house in a gated community called The Circle in London. Shortly after moving in Alice is clued in that the untimely demise of a previous owner of the home wasn't as straightforward as it initially seemed. She tries to piece together the clues while attempting to break in to the tight knit friends group in the exclusive community.. The whole time, trying to figure out which one of them may be hiding something... This will keep you guessing until the end. I was sure multiple times that I had it figured out & boy was I wrong. Told in the voices of two characters, however, you don't know until the end who the second character is. If you liked 'Behind Closed Doors' - you will LOVE this one.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin Press and B.A. Paris for the gifted advance copy.
You want to know who could really benefit from seeing a therapist? Alice. The main character of this book.*
Let me tell you.
Alice and her boyfriend Leo move into a gorgeous house in a gated community called The Circle. After making friends with the neighbors, Alice unwittingly finds out that something bad happened to the last resident of the house. She was a therapist.
Alice becomes obsessed with finding out more about the therapist and what happened to her. The neighbors don’t like talking about it, but that doesn’t stop from her asking them question after question after question after question every time she runs into them, which is all of the time. Just when she promises to ask only one more question, she has four or five more.
Dear Alice also makes terrible decisions that may put her life in danger, with little regard to said danger. She pays little attention to strange occurrences that seem to happen around her, although most people would immediately be on high alert. Her consuming need to find answers about the therapist makes her suspect everyone around her of wrongdoing at one time or another, which in turn made me suspect everyone.
It may sound like I didn’t like this book. I really enjoyed the first two-thirds, and read with rapt attention. After that, I started to lose interest as Alice and her behavior became harder and harder to stomach. The gal just annoyed me. Things also got a bit too convoluted for me to take seriously, but my interest did come back by the time it got to the OTT ending, which I slightly suspected.
Overall, it’s a quick and mostly entertaining thriller, and I know many will really love it. B.A. Paris is always a go-to author for me, and I’m already waiting for her next one, which I’m hopeful I’ll love.
*Not making light of therapy. It’s a beneficial and healthy treatment for most people and their well-being.

Alice lives in the country and Leo lives in London. They’ve decided their long-distance romance has now reached the point where they want to move in together, so Leo finds the perfect place. The Circle is an exclusive gated community of 12 homes with the ideal blend of both their worlds. There are large lots for gardens and a private park-like square, all in London. And best of all, it’s a steal. Soon after moving in, Alice finds out why it was a steal. The previous owner, a therapist, had been murdered by her husband in their bedroom. Things soon start to go bump in the night, and Alice becomes obsessed with solving the murder. Unfortunately, her idyllic relationship with Leo is falling apart, and her prying into everyone’s personal lives estranges her neighbors.
The storyline itself might have been good, but Alice was just tiresome and annoying. The book is told by Alice first-person, with an occasional chapter written by the therapist. Alice doesn’t know how she feels about staying in the house, so she’s all over the place with her emotions. Not to mention, she has baggage. A lot of baggage that she ties-in everywhere that just doesn’t fit. While she is betrayed by Leo, she keeps clinging to their relationship, dragging out the inevitable ending, being spiteful and wallowing in self-pity. The ending was outrageously over the top, and in the end, it just didn’t work for me.

I love BA Paris and the beginning of the book was so addicting but I thought the end fell a little flat.
The Therapist was an absolutely outstanding book! Alice is woman who lost her Mom, Dad, and sister in a horrible accident. Her boyfriend Leo buys a house in “the Circle” for the two of them to start a life together. Alice feels unsettled almost immediately in the house, trying to make friends she feel confused at why one of the neighbors seems to take an instant dislike to her, and after a stranger only she sees crashes her party things continue to be suspicious.
I love Psychological Thrillers but normally they are not surprising because I figure them out. This book kept me guessing every step of the way! When I thought I had it figured out we learned something new.
“I think time has no meaning when it comes to grief.”
Another amazing and wild ride from B.A. Paris! I was paranoid and second guessing myself the entire time on what was happening. I loved the small Easter eggs Paris intertwined in the story to really shock you for the big reveal, even though it was right in front of your face. I really felt like Paris hit me with a one-two punch combo on The Therapist. I had one bomb dropped, then another! I was in the drive-thru listening and I know for a fact I had to pause it and rewind because i really didn’t think I heard correctly.
The reader for the audio book did such a wonderful job. I think a lot of my paranoia and excitement from the story came from how well the reader played Alice’s narration of fear and second guessing. Highly recommend this for the audiobook lovers in my life!
Overall, I really enjoyed The Therapist. I had no idea where we were going, but I knew I was definitely down for the ride. If you’re a fan of Big Little Lies and Final Girls, I think The Therapist is for you! Thank you Macmillan Audio for the gifted copy. The Therapist is out July 13th!
Thank you NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this title to review.
Wow! This book had my mind all over the place. I did really enjoy the flow of the story and the minimal parts from the past were just enough to keep me in bewilderment.
I had my guesses as to who done it, but then every time a new piece of information appeared I changed my mind over and over.
The ending really shocked me and the final chapter made me gasp several times too.
I absolutely love this author—one of the best thriller writers around! This book did not disappoint! It was nearly impossible to stop reading once I started and I was not expecting many of the twists and turns. I highly recommend it to any one else who enjoys a gripping thriller!
I will start by saying I love B.A Paris as an author....but this book is not her finest. I struggled to finish it but alas I did. The Therapist is 90% domestic drama, 10% mystery/suspense, and I found it to be very slow. Thankfully it picked up at the end but not quickly enough. This review is short because there isn't much to say, the book was boring. Paris though has been an author I have previously enjoyed so I am still looking forward to her next one.
