This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.
This version of Anne of Green Gables by Mariah Marsden is a nice, compact version of this classic tale to introduce to younger readers.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A childhood favourite that I enjoyed just as much in adulthood.
I listened to this in the evenings whilst tucked up in bed so this audiobook was reminiscent of being read a bedtime story.
I loved it.
The narration was as enjoyable as the story in itself.
It was so nice to be transported back to my childhood!
I grew up watching Anne of Green Gables on tv, and I was always eager for the next episode (I watched it as an animated series).
This book was a wonderful way to travel back in time, and relive the lively advantures of Anne and her magnificent imagination and wild descriptions of everything she saw and experienced!
Pure joy!
Anne.... since I was a child there wasn't a version of Anne's life that disappointed me. And this book followed suit. I cannot say enough about Anne's life and this book just it justice in a new way. A book. An audio book. A movie. A new tv show. Every version of this tale brings me back to the very first experiencing of meeting Anne and jumping into her life. Fantastic.
This audiobook has wonderful narrators who bring this classic to life. I enjoyed listening very much.
I have always loved this story! I thought it was a unique idea to have this created into a graphic novel. It’s A book that I read many times when I was a kid and I’m happy to see that it’s continuing on in popularity.
I definitely recommend this version especially to kids who may not be ready to read a full book but are interested in something a little easier to digest with that aspect of the graphics.
Delightful adaptation of a beloved classic. I read this with my children and they were enthralled. What a fun way to share this treasured story with them!
Anne is an orphan who is sent to Matthew and Marilla for helping them with house chores in Green Gables, but chaos ensues when she discovers they were expecting a boy helper, Anne's dreams shatter and she might be sent back, but Matthew and Marilla fall in love with her antics and wild spirit and decide to keep her, this is Anne's life filled with questions, curiosities, intense love for nature, and finding her kindred spirits at Green Gables.
I enjoyed listening to this classic and a favorite I have read several times. It was a different experience and a nice experience. If you have read it before then I recommend listening and if you haven't read this book before here is an option for you. But, it is a condensed version that keeps the main elements so I recommend you read the full book too if you really want to get the full effect of this great book, but it is fun to have this audio option too. It is a good introduction for younger audiences. It is great for family time. There are even some added noises that some might like and other listeners might not, this is a personal preference kinda thing.
This was a great introduction to the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M . Montgomery. I really enjoyed listening to this dramatised version of the first book. It made me smile and laugh out loud as Anne, Marilla, Matthew, Mrs Lynd, Diana Berry and of course Gilbert Blythe were brought to life so expertly by the narrators. I definitely recommend this to children who have yet to read or listen to this story.
Thanks so much NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for my digital copy via the NetGalley app.
This book such a cute and fluffy read. I listened to the audio while cleaning and doing other mindless things tasks and became fully absorbed into the story. It was beautiful and a good introductory childhood classic for people looking to get into the genre. I loved how Montgomery allowed Anne to have character development while still being true to herself. While Anne is the main focus, the story follows several characters including Diana, Marilla, and Matthew Cuthbert. The author did a good job at fleshing out these characters and I really appreciated the depth she gave them.
The plot was also pretty interesting although it felt a bit formulaic. It featured many different hijinks and hilarious situations that Anne would find herself in and have to navigate her way out of. I really connected to her character and sense of imagination. The story took place in the early 20th century and had some historical elements that I felt added to the story nicely.
This audiobook was extremely well done. I paired this with the graphic novel and noted how the audiobook had some extra lines to further create the scene, and I found it really helpful. The production was wonderful and the story absolutely delightful.
This audiobook of Anne of Green Gables (a graphic novel) was lovely. I know that seems like a slightly unusual way to describe an audiobook, but it was. It was lovely.
I first started listening to this in the car with my 3 and 6 year old.
The audiobook had some narration, but overall it was mostly the characters speaking to one another which told the story.
For my 3 year old, this was a little too advanced, but my 6 year old really enjoyed it and it was a great introduction to the stories of Anne of Green Gables.
In particular, I thought the actors played their parts really well and the sound effects brought the audiobook to life.
I would definitely like to read the graphic novel, particularly as Brenna Thummler has illustrated it and feel it would work better as a physical copy rather than an audiobook - I’d like to relisten to it alongside the physical book, when I manage to get my hands on it!
2.5 stars
I'm a big fan of Anne of Green Gables and all the other books on the collection so when I saw the audiobook for the graphic novel everyone is talking about available on NetGalley I had to snatch it.
Sadly, I mostly disliked it. Anne's voice was annoying, I felt they didn't capture the essence of Lucy Maud Montegomery's books, and the adaptation of a graphic novel to an audiobook (I should have known) didn't work well in some parts (ackward silences and jumps in time that weren't perceptible at first, for example).
What I liked was the descriptions of nature, and the music in the beginning.
I wanted to like this so much but it didn't work, at least in this format alone: cute illustrations may have distracted from some of the flaws and it could be great for a small child to follow along the images in the book.
I have to admit that I was curious about how you could do an audiobook version of a graphic novel and now I know. With difficulty. I came to this story having never read the original novel and did find some elements of it confusing without the description of the setting and the additional words that are naturally missed out when transferred to a graphic novel. Did this spoil the experience, no, not really. I was able to follow the overall narrative, pick up the events covered and see Anne grow into a young woman who selflessly stays home. I think that if you know the story to begin with, before listening to this entertaining and well put together performance, you would get more from it, hearing the characters that you already know come to life and be able to fill in the pieces that are naturally missing from a dramatisation / of graphic novel conversion.
I'd recommend this to individuals who have already read the novel perhaps not to those who are coming to the story the first time unless you are open-minded and can accept there will be some jumps.
I listened to this audio book with zero expectations and it was a good surprise.
.
The sound effects captured images of the beautiful Green Gables, the rain, the wind and the horses along with the voices of each character Sharon Alexander as Anne, Rachel Jacobs as Marilla, Alan Carlson as Gilbert, giving to the reader the feeling of being in the middle of the story
.
Anne is a beautiful book and this version seemed like a good option to listen to with childrens
.
Thanks to Andrews McMeel publishing and Net Galley for give a copy in exchange of my honest review I enjoyed listening it
I really liked this!
Anne of Green Gables is one of those children's books that I never read when I was a child. But now as an adult reading this (or more like listening to this) I LOVED it.
The audiobook was okay and the narrator did a great job bringing the characters into life. The only thing that I didn't really like was that I didn't know that it was an audiobook for the graphic novel but that was my mistake. I am really excited about reading the rest of the series.
At first I was not sure about about this since this is an audio version of a graphic novel but it was done very well. I throughly enjoyed it. Thanks Netgalley for letting me listen to this novel for my honest review.
Didn’t like the voices at all, put me off listening so didn’t finish, Ann’s voice portrays her totally differently from the book image
