I loved the book Anne Of Green Gables and the graphic novel of it is lovely. The only problem with an audiobook of a graphic novel is that it kind of loses its charm. It was cute enough though. I do recommend reading the graphic novel along with the audiobook.
Three stars for the audiobook.
Five stars for the graphic novel.
Such a good retelling of the classic, Anne of Green Gables. I love listening to the narrator and reliving the life of Anne.
I own this book in print, but was happy to share this audiobook with my daughters, who absolutely loved following along with the book and hearing the excellent narration. SO well done!!
Listened to this in audiobook from NetGalley. It was later when I realized that this is an audio adaptation of the graphic novel adaptation. It's a bit awkward to be honest. It's mostly dialogue and a bit of sound effects. Almost like a radio drama, but not quite. I'm guessing the sound effects was supposed to replace the "graphic" part. I still think it's better to just either read/listen to the original, or read the graphic novel itself to better appreciate the art.
That being said, I still enjoyed listening to Anne's antics. I love her character so much. She is dreamy but fierce, impulsive but smart. I equally love everyone at Green Gables and was still saddened at a beloved character's passing at the end of the story.
Anne of Green Gables remains as one of the most heartwarming and inspiring stories for all ages.
I wasn't sure how an audiobook of a graphic novel would work, but I'm happy to say that this was a really enjoyable listen. I read it in print format and it was just okay so that made the fact that I liked the audio version an even bigger bonus. It's very short - just 1 hour, 43 minutes which makes it perfect for a short road trip or while doing chores. Thanks to Andrews McMeel Audio and Net Galley for an advanced listening copy.
Will Marilla and Matthew be happy when they receive Anne instead of a boy? Who will help Matthew with the farm? Will they decide to adopt Anne? Can Anne gain the favor of Marilla and Matthew?
These questions and more will be discovered when you listen to this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A nice condensed version to introduce the story to a younger audience. Good voices on the narration.
A delightful reimagining of Anne of Green Gables. This series is a childhood favorite of mine, I reread it multiple times and I can honestly say this graphic novel does the original justice while still setting itself apart.
The narration was quite enjoyable. It was as if you are listening to an movie.
Anne of Green Gables
Who thought making a graphic novel into an audiobook was a good idea? This is more of a recording of a performance, which would have been nice, but wasn’t well done. The pauses between speakers is too long and bothersome. It sounds like they all recorded their own parts, then a not-very-adept editor attempted to splice them together. If you’re doing a performance with a child character - use a child actor. This sounded like a grown woman trying to sound like a young child. It was cartoonish and distracting. The background noises (feet shuffling, fake giggles, water rushing) were amateurish and annoying, partly because they were intermittent and random. The passing of time was not done well, so the “aging” of Ann felt awkward. One minutes she’s seven, then she’s suddenly applying for college - her voice didn’t even change. Sorry, perhaps I would have enjoyed the printed graphic novel, but this audiobook was a mess and I’m sorry I spent the time finishing it. Definitely not something I would ever recommend to anyone.
This was some horrible reading and I couldn't finish listening to it.
It's my fault for listening to a graphic novel, I guess.
Anne of Green Gables is an all time favorite book! I love the graphic novel adaptation this is based on and was excited to see a new audiobook edition! The various narrators are wonderful and really bring the story to life. The additional sound effects of birds chirping and horse hooves makes it feel like you are truly in Green Gables. This is an abridged adaptation but it is true to the story in every way! Such a fun trip back into the world of Anne.
Thank you to Andrews McMeel Audio/Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for this audiobook, thoughts are my own.
I’m so sorry but this wasn’t a book for me. Maybe it’s because it was a graphic novel audiobook but the long pauses between some of the dialogue was distracting and felt choppy. Hopefully a graphic novel ebook would be much better.
This audiobook was really good and well produced. The water sounds, the birds singing, these special details made all difference to a very well-known story. I was transported to Green Gables with this audiobook and it brought me joy.
It will give you highlights of the original Anne of Green Gables, a great introduction and hopefully one will want to read/listen to the story in full.
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Audio for a chance to listen to this recording for my honest opinion,
I listened to this audiobook with my son and we absolutely loved it! Pity we didn't have the graphic version to follow while listening.
The narration, the sounds are great fun,. Very, very enjoyable, would definitely recommend it!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This is a nice expansion for any Anne of Green Gables fan. I listened to the audio version, and fully plan to add this graphic novel to my library.
This is the original story of Anne coming to Green Gables in an abridged version. Of course you still get some of Anne's most classic lines.
I loved the background sounds, - birds singing, walking around the farm, as it truly set the atmosphere of the story. The only audio voice that I could not stand was that of Rachel Lynde, neighbor and friend of Marilla. Luckily her portion of the graphic novel is short.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Andrews McMeel, for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I have read this graphic novel before, I really enjoyed it. I can't say how accurate this adaptation is, I still have yet to read the original novel. When I saw there was an audio version out now of the graphic novel, I had to check it out. I would say to definitely read the original graphic novel over the audio version if you can, or listen to the audio while reading it. Graphic novels don't translate very well to audio.
This was my first experience with Anne of Green Gables, so I cannot compare it to the original text. Anne of Green Gables is a book that has been on my TBR for over twenty years, and I still haven't managed to read it.
This is a bit hard to review because this is for a graphic novel, but I only have the audio.
I thought this was a well condensed version of the story. It was easy to follow and I think young readers would have an easy time understanding it. I thought the voices in the narration were fantastic and distinct to each character.
I enjoyed this audiobook about the life of Anne of Green Gables and how she interacted with her new family and friends. It was a light read which was short and it was therefore easy to listen to. I really liked the voices of each character and how they were portrayed.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
content: 5 stars
narration: 5 stars
This audiobook is an audio version of the graphic novel adaptation Anne of Green Gables. It would be nice to see the illustrations too, but this audiobook is excellent on its own.
Narration includes some music and background noises which make listening more pleasant, especially for the children. Narration and sounds bring Anne to life. Three narrators did all character voices, and they did a great job.
Thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this! All opinions are my own.
