This was my first book by this author, It was pretty enjoyable. I would give this book a 3.5 star rating! It was a pretty Quick and easy read!
This book was very odd. In the opening chapters we are thrown into a scene that is already taking place and there is no backstory. I was not sure what the author or editor was thinking with this book. The whole thing needed more polishing.
Twin sisters with totally different emotional temp, which sets them apart. A man who knew what he wanted but refused to bow to being told what he must do. With a little Celtic intrigue, kidnapping, and budding love, this book has turned out to be a gem.
A brilliant mix of drama, danger and intrigue
Lady Cordelia is stuck in a tomb with archeologist Marshall, the Marquess of Daventry and once she is rescued she is kidnapped
This book is really hard to review and not give spoilers but I will do my best
I loved Marshall, he is protective of Delia but is also an independent character. He is strong and confident but also vulnerable at times which made him feel more real. He is the kind of gentleman who I would love to rescue me if something happened so I think this helped me to love him more
It took me longer to understand and therefore warm to Delia, she is more nervous and cautious about the things in her life and is used to her wishes being overlooked by her domineering parents. I think part of what made me struggle with her was that she didn’t realise the danger that she put herself in and that when she was in a difficult situation it seemed that she wanted to be rescued rather than fighting for herself
This book looks at something that I didn’t really know about, the myths and legends of Guernsey, and they form a huge part of the story which worked really well and made me enjoy the story even more
There is so much drama and danger in this book that it had me hooked and wanting to keep reading. The descriptions made it feel like I was there and part of the story, I could feel the emotions that the characters went through and I think this really helped me to become invested in Delia and Marshall’s story
I would recommend this novella to those who enjoy a story full of drama and surprises that will capture your interest and with characters who will pull you in deeper
Light Regency romance set in Guernsey. The trials and tribulations of upper society Georgian life are well presented - heroine unchaperoned and stranded with hero means that an engagement has to be forthcoming although neither particularly like the idea. This aspect of the story worked well. What was less likely were the ancient cult aspects, the twin sister of heroine running away and being dragged back by Papa or Russians or pirates, or all three, let alone the heroine herself being the subject of several kidnapping attempts. These just seemed silly and added little if anything to the story. If they had had more substance they could have made a difference. Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This historical romance kicked off right in the middle of the action and didn't let up, The main characters were a likable duo the reader could root for and it was a fast read.
This book had such a great description. A heroine interested in archeology? The hero is an aristocratic archeologist? What could be better? I eagerly started reading the story. The heroine and hero are stuck in a tomb and a dog comes to their rescue. When the heroine is pulled through the hole made by the dog by the hero's workers, she is drugged and kidnapped. Okay. Strange twist but I kept reading. The savior of the heroine is her twin who has been missing for the past two years. Anyone else would be asking where she was and what was going on and the missing twin gives a generic story about living in France then India and their father sent her away. I must say at this point the story went to crazy town. It was one strange and convoluted story line after another. At no time did they look for antiques or do any digging or find any artifacts. Why stress that they were both interested in archeology when the heroine didn't have a scholarly aspect to her? There were many strange twists in this story that did not match the description at all. At one time, I wanted to refuse to review it, but I kept reading, slow and halting. There was no flow to the tory and the setting and other descriptions were vague. I did not see how the characters grew to love each other or develop. I give this book 2 star and recommend passing it by.
