The Grumpy Fairies is about a group of fairies who are grouchy, lazy, and rude. While the illustrations are cute, I am not quite sure of the message this story gives that if you're grumpy, a monster will come eat you, or that it's not okay to have your emotions and be down. I think it would be a good idea to use this as a funny story and jumping off point for discussing how we can handle our emotions in a healthy way.

This is a book is the perfect book to bring a smile or laugh to your own grumpy fairies. Gorgeously illustrated.
I read this with my daughter and she loved it! We loved the grumpy fairies and how they had to turn their attitude around. We also enjoyed how they learned about how their chores were really not that bad.
This is a story about Fairies, but not the sweet, goody two shoes fairies most books write about, but those who are grumpy, the ones who don't want to help everyone all the time. My granddaughter picked this book because she loves fairies. The illustrations in this book are delightful. The expressions on the fairies faces, the stomping and lying on the ground fairies are hilarious. When one of them shouts, NO, and falls to the floor, I couldn't stop laughing and asking my granddaughter if she was ever a grumpy fairy. Of course she said no, until the end when she sheepishly replied, sometimes. This is a great story to discuss emotions and feelings and that it is normal to have those feelings, but sometimes there are consequences. In this story grumpy fairies have just the right sweet/sour taste that the goblin in the forest enjoys. Don't worry, no grumpy fairies are eaten. This story is also a good one to predict what will happen next, what can the fairies do to be safe etc. A good story for families and kindergarten or early primary classrooms.
The littlest fairies are sometimes the grumpiest. They don’t want to help others or do chores. But they better watch out or the goblin will get them. This book is okay, some kids are going to love it. I think the 180 between grumpy and happy was a bit expected and too fast. There was no fear, or no real lesson. Overall I like the book, I just don’t love it.
A perfect book for threenagers to read this Spring is the grumpy fairies by @bethan_stevens and published by @QuartoKids.
Not all fairies are nice. Beware of the young fairies who are grumpy. Being grumpy is a full-time job. The grumpy fairies refuse to help a bird gather twigs, bees gather nectar and a mouse gather acorns. All the animals warn the fairies not to be grumpy, there is a danger lurking around. Will the grumpy fairies listen to the animals? What is the danger the animals were talking about? Read this book to know more.

The Grumpy Fairies is a cute and funny children's book about a group of little fairies who don't want to help their grown up fairies with chores. They fund it boring and don't see why they should help.
When the forest animals ask them for help to do jobs, the fairies get grumpier and grumpier and are so absorbed in being grumpy that they don't hear or heed the animals warnings about a troll who likes to eat grumpy fairies until they come face to face with one!
This book will make children giggle and draw their attention to what will happen next. It is a great conversation starter to have with children too.
I loved the illustrations in this one and the fairies were cute and funny even though they were moody!
When you think that ALL Fairies are nice and kind, you are wrong. This is the story of the grumpy ones. They are not as nice as the normal fairies, not as helpful, and not as cheerful.
By this story, I was once again made aware of the effect of being grumpy. No, it is not a good thing to do, and no, people won't like you by being irritable. A nice reminder in a book.
This picture book was adorable! It's all about grumpy fairies who don't want to help with chores and are too grumpy to listen to warnings about a goblin walking around who loves grumpy fairies. I adored the art style, and the grumpy fairies were just too cute! As someone who has both been and has experience with a grumpy child, I found this too funny and accurate, and it's perfect for parents who also have grumpy kids who don't want to help with chores.
The cover do not justice by the way!
The artstyle and the art sequence is amazing. It feels like a running commentary on tamper tantrums thrown by kids (who hasn't come across this scene!) but it feels like it's happening in a peach coloured world.
It's just beautiful. Yes, the kids are really grumpy in this storybook. And they all need to a goblin to make them understand it seems!
Things turned good but....
"But who knows how they'll feel in the morning."
Such a fun storybook.
Thank you authors and the publisher for the advance reading copy.
Loved this sweet book! The illustrations were on point and I think that any child can relate to the fairies at times.
Thanks Bethan Stevens, Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books and Netgalley for the ARC of The Grumpy Fairies.
Whenever I think of fairies I think of friendly and fun ones. But never grumpy ones. So when I came across this book, I was eager to read it. These little fairies were grumpy indeed. I did not like them at first. Well,it's hard not to like them for long. After all they are fairies. I adored the characters, the coloured illustrations and of course the story. A good book for little ones.
Well this is a joy to read aloud! It certainly has that 'again, again' factor. Stinky Goblins and grumpy fairies make for a fun and exciting read especially for young children. There are clever pieces of repetition which will help involve the children even further. The quick paced style of the fairy story is brought to life with the colourful, expressive illustrations which draw the readers in and just make you smile. This fun book could be used to great effect as a sounding board for talks about emotions and kindness.
With huge thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for making us smile.
This book is adorable! I loved it. I mean...I can relate to the grumpy fairies, at times. I love the illustrations and the sass of the characters. I will be buying this for my school library. The kids will love this at storytime!
Funny, charming (and what must be one of the most beautifully illustrated picture-books ever), this little gem will delight pre-school age children everywhere.
Deep in the woods, hiding under the leaves and tree roots live the fairies - (oh well, any child could tell you that!). But what they may not know, is that not all fairies hiding in the woods are kind and sweet, but some are actually, well, quite grumpy and distinctly unhelpful.
This fact alone is bound to be pretty interesting. What child hasn’t felt grumpy and unhelpful, and isn’t it special to be let in on the fact that all of us, even the most magical and beautiful fairies, experience ugly moods.
In fact, these grumpy fairies refuse to do chores, will not listen to warnings, and disrupt the balance of the day for all sorts of adorable woodland creatures.
But bad behavior has consequences and our grumpy fairies learn, through a not-so-gentle nudge from a nasty goblin, that being nice and helpful isn’t really so bad after all.
With its sweetly relatable story and lovely images, this book will surely help children recognize and relate to their own bad moods and the behaviors that may result, as well as provide ideas about managing and modifying their emotions as they arise.
(And it may make just make your next walk in the woods with your child a little more interesting!)
A big thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance review copy of this charming book. All thoughts presented are my own.
The Grumpy Fairies is adorable and funny, a great picture book addition to any collection, or a great gift as well!
I wanted to love everything about The Grumpy Fairies by Bethan Stevens. The story is engaging and the illustrations delighted my daughter. We are in a phase of loving all things fairies. I imagined this book helping us understand that fairies have a wide range of emotions are aren't always happy. However, this story wasn't helpful for us processing our grumpy feelings but instead shows that we have to not be grumpy to avoid being eaten ;-)
It's a sweet enough book and children will love it. I just couldn't help but thing a few edits could have made this an INCREDIBLE book.
The publisher made a copy of this book available via Netgalley. This is my honest review.
The Grumpy Fairies by Bethan Stevens is a delightful little book about some creatures you probably hadn't though much about.
You always think of the sweet and kind fairies, don't you? We all do! They love nature and have little wings, are adorable and kid friendly! But did you know the littlest ones can be absolute terrors? Grumpy, mean, annoying and terrible?! This book introduces us to those grumpy fairies that we all forget about (which is a real shame, they deserve love too!).
This book was fun! I definitely liked it for a little romp in the magical, fictional world of fairies. I highly recommend it for someone looking for a book for fairy lovers.
The illustrations are very pretty and colourful. I thought they suited the story very well. I also really love the grump faces on those fairies. The expressions and body language are a ten out of ten!
Three out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group and Frances Lincoln Children's Books for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Be happy and helpful or die!
Seriously, though. The artwork-adorable! While the message and themes are certainly great and I do think this book ultimately has some good promise as a jumping off point to talk about emotions. However, I'm not sure how I feel about the fear-based direction that it takes. I shall have to ponder this one for a while.
A classic tale of grumpy fairies. What happens when a fairy becomes grumpy? Nothing gets done, they are unhappy about everything, they can't enjoy those that they love. And the worst part, they are good food for hungry goblins who like they food sweet and sour.
The illustrations make the classic come alive. Very much enjoyed this one.
A special thank you to Quarto Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
