I wasn’t really sure about this book in the first few chapters but I’m glad I stuck with it. It was a sweet romance that I thoroughly enjoyed while reading the trauma of war.
Trust Me is a second chance romance, but it is quite different to many other second chance romances. Rather than our couple, Adam and Evie, meeting up again after a period apart, the book opens with them splitting up. After thirteen years together, their love is still as strong, but Evie longs for children, marriage and a life where Adam isn't risking his life constantly. Adam can't see himself ever leaving the army and at an impasse, they break up. The book follows them as they try to come to terms with being apart and ultimately find their way back together.
I really enjoyed this read. Adam is a lovely character for all his faults and he and Evie work so well together. The book deals with a number of issues. Adam not only puts himself constantly in danger, but he also struggles to value himself, mostly down to his troubled upbringing. In many ways, he rejects Evie and what she offers, simply because he can't see that he is worth it, hurting her in the process.
I really enjoyed this book, but there were a couple of little things that irritated me. The book is set in the UK, but the language is quite American. I really wish that when it's set in Britain, then British terms could be used. There were just a few too many sidewalks, Mom, gotten and ass for my liking. There were a couple of small parts about the storyline, which seemed a little far fetched. Evie's gallery exhibition, (I think it might even have been supposed to be the Tate, which seems a little unlikely for an unknown artist) but also what happened in the night. Then there was the story of Adam's parents. Again, I didn't entirely buy this.
These are just minor niggles and this is a good, solid and romantic story that I really enjoyed.
