This one was not for me.
Thank you NetGalley for providing a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This one was interesting, because I recently listened to a podcast of someone who interacted (unknowingly at the time) with the Golden State Killer. I always think those close encounters are creepy!
The concept was interesting, the execution- not so much. Maybe the golden state killer is just over done at this point? I'm not sure.
Great book. Highly recommend and will most defiantly read more by this author and suggest to others!
If you are in to #truecrime and have followed #goldenstatekiller then this book may be for you. Why the may? Because this is a fictitious tale. #victimeleven #tomchorneau it’s an intricate tale of speculation and the possibility of if the #gsk had an accomplice. #netgalley #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #arc #books
Just couldn't get into this book, not my kind of read it didn't hold me or excite me, to read on so i didnt, got to 20% and gave up!sorry!
I'm bummed. I had been really excited to read this one - but I went in with the wrong expectations. For some reason, I had it in my head that this was true crime. The Golden State Killer is a topic I've read a few books and watched a few shows on, so I was thinking this would tie some of the pieces of evidence together with things I didn't already know. I think going in to this thinking it was true crime and instead getting a novel threw me off and I never seemed to get my head back in to the book.
I did like the story and, had I come in with the right expectations, I probably would have given it another star. I felt lost a lot by the amount of characters and struggled to stay interested.
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Very captivating with amazing character development.
Super love true crime. And especially love reading about the GSK since it is local to where I am from. I never knew he had an accomplice so this was such a interesting and page turning read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The characters were well developed, but the storyline and characters jumped around so much that it was hard to keep track of the goings on. Clearly there was 2 stories going on at once, but it was impossible to see their connection to each other. Even at the end, it wasn't very clear to me. More details on the connection would have made it stronger throughout.

I thought I would find this book interesting, and I did, although extremely speculative with insufficient evidence and a little boring. The story has great potential but needs expanding in my opinion.
I absolutely loved the blurb for this book and the idea that there was more to the story of the Golden State Killer. As a person who follows quite a few true crime podcasts and reads true crime books, this seemed right up my alley. The story was really interesting, but I think where it fell short for me was just how much was included. Obviously, this is a complicated case that takes place over many years, but the book really felt like it was forcing too much into the story, which often made it confusing and hard to follow.
3/5 Stars

I’m not sure if it was the synopsis of this book, or the writing, but it just felt like something was missing.
I felt like there was more about the investigative journaling being done than the actual Golden State Killer, and his supposed accomplice, and unfortunately, this just missed the mark for me.
3.6⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay, we're do I start . I'm speechless,as I want to love this book as much as I can but it's a pain seeing it getting out of place with the plot .
.
True crime is one of my favourite genre but all I can see is a bit of a flop .
Cole cases is getting intriguing , but all of a sudden it gone to the question ( what?where? How ) .
.
Overall , it's a good 3.6⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me.

The thing with this book is that I thought it was true crime because it was on the category of true crime and the synopsis didn’t say it was all a work of fiction. The only true crime part is that the Golden State Killer actually existed.
I think that coming to the book with the wrong expectations didn’t help, it made everything all the more confusing as we follow Cole from case to case, and from theory to theory it became messy.
If you like conspiracy theories about serial killers you might like this book, knowing that most of it is a work of fiction.
It seems that there are far too many “true crime” books out right now. There are several on this case alone. Maybe the market is saturated. All I know is the quality of books that I’ve read in this genre are vastly different. They range from the truly horrible to the truly compelling. They have to add more to the story than the basic understanding of the crime that occurred. Especially if the story is told as often The Golden State Killer. That story is part of our lives. I remember the time surrounding it. I remember being told as a female that if I am a victim of a crime it is probably at least partially my fault. I remember being told that if you were raped that no man would ever want you again. You were tainted in some way. When you capture a story like this, you need to capture the time. I think that is what this one missed for me. It had facts. It took those facts to certain conclusions. But it didn’t really capture the era or the crime. I was hoping for something to be added but the style just didn’t work for me. It was OK.
Victim Eleven by Tom Chorneau tells the story of a reporter, Cole, who finds out he lives in a house rumored to be the site of an attack by the Golden State Killer, He sets out to investigate this and becomes convinced there may have been an accomplice to the famed killer, What is even more crazy is that the original investigators may have been covering this information up! Cole digs up all he can and you'll have to read this to find out what he discovers.
This book was just ok for me. It seemed a little unorganized and hard to follow in the beginning. I did enjoy the plot and also reading about the Golden State Killer. The amount of info and research was impressive! I did like the main character, Cole. I feel like maybe this could be a series about Cole's work as an investigator. I will definitely give this author another try.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to review this interesting book.
Cole is a former reporter who is in process of selling his house when his mailman tells him a victim of the Golden State Killer was murdered there. This takes Cole on a journey to find out who the victim was, but gets him into other trouble.
I enjoyed this. I like the way it threw in actual content and information about the Golden State case and raising the possibility of a second murderer.
I wanted to love this book as I’m interested in true crime but I couldn’t finish it. Unfortunately, it felt like this book needed a solid editor to go though it to make the author’s thoughts come across more clearly and make sense. I will definitely try this one again once it is published because it’s an interesting story that has a lot of potential.
The Golden State Killer having an accomplice?! What?!
I absolutely love Thriller Mysteries as much as I love True Crime! This book ticks both of those boxes. However, I liked this story but I didn’t love it. The author had a great idea in this book! I thought that it was well written and the story itself kept me interested. I just didn’t like the Cole character! He felt unrelatable to me. Other than that, I thought that this was a great read!

Any first hand account of experience with the crimes of Joseph J. DeAngelo is worth a read because the crime spree was so long and unusual. So I was happily wading through all the fake and phony "atmosphere" the author lays out, waiting for the good parts which have to include DeAngelo or else who cares, right? That's why we're here.
We're frankly not that interested in this guy's ouvre. We really, heartless as we are,. don't care about when he woke up, what mood he was in, whether the coffee maker was working, what that phone call was about or whether his sprinkler was working UNLESS any of those things has a bearing on the killer's activities. And this book is loaded with "stuff", i.e. laborious writing that has nothing to do with the crimes. Then he inserts something about the crimes. Okay.
But THEN he gets dates mixed up. OMG that's when I bailed, because if there's one thing we really don't need it's inaccuracy about these events that hurt so many people.
