In The Golden Couple, we have Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen once again doing what they do best - telling a dark and twisty story about people who aren't what they seem. In this instance, the "golden couple" is Marissa and Matthew Bishop, who seem to have it all, at least by social media standards. In real life, however, things aren't quite so shiny, and when Marissa admits to infidelity, an angry Matthew agrees to see an unconventional couples' counselor who claims she can fix their issues with 10 sessions, as long as they're willing to follow her instructions.
Avery Chambers is that counselor, and (of course) she has her own issues. When these three collide, secrets from the past begin to surface, and we aren't quite sure whom to believe when stories don't quite add up, or where we'll end up when it's all over.
Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing a digital copy for an unbiased review.

A traditional mystery from this author duo. Not my favorite book of theirs but still an entertaining mystery with an element of surprise. I did guess the plot twist, following the clues that were given so I was along for the ride for most of the novel.

Thank you #netgalley for a copy of The Golden Couple. I was very excited to read this book. I am a big fan of Hendricks and Pekkanen. I really enjoyed the start of The Golden Couple. I was really interested in both POVs. I didn't have a favorite which is usually not the case with books with multiple POVs. Honestly, I found the very ending just a little unrealistic. I can't give many details without spoiling the story but I am talking about the very very end. The "big reveal" was a little predictable but not in a bad way. I read a lot of psychological thrillers so that may play a role in my thoughts that it was predictable. I would recommend this book to thriller lovers and fans of Hendricks and Pekkanen.

All that glitters is not gold. Everyone believes that Matthew and Marissa are the perfect couple. They seem to have it all and yet looks can be deceiving. Knowing they need help they seek outside help in the form of a therapist. Said therapist had previously gone rogue in her treatment and has lost her license. In fact, said therapist is in desperate need of help herself. The way she stalks them is not only bizarre, but seriously creepy and illegal. I didn’t find the couple or the therapist even remotely likable or interesting enough to care about their journey. It’s an interesting read, but I’d have had to care about the couple or thought the therapist was anything other than someone who should have been in a locked mental facility.

This is a story about a seemingly Golden Couple that go to a therapist to help repair their marriage. The therapist uses unconventional methods to counsel her patients that borderline on stalking. This was a great thriller with many twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end. Great character development and great plot line! The authors make a great writing team to keep the story flowing and tie all of the elements of the plot together in the end. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest review.

the couple who seems to have it all… but is there resentment bubbling just below the surface? A therapist with non-traditional sessions plans to get to the bottom of their problems. Loved the creative deception & how all the twists helped the story come together.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this ARC.
5 Stars!
I thought the plot was well built, and the characters were very interesting.
Marissa and Matthew Bishop met my definition of a golden couple: everything looks great on the surface, but there is turbulence and drama underneath it.
I really enjoyed Avery Chambers’ unorthodox therapy methods and how she unraveled this presumed “all together” couple. I found it hard to put this book down.

I really enjoyed this book. This writing duo definitely redeemed themselves after a disappointing last few novels. Enjoyed Avery's "therapist" angle and, honestly, didn't guess the twist even though I am not sure how I didn't. Haha!

I thought The Golden Couple has an interesting premise and I liked Avery as a main character. But otherwise, the "twists" weren't very shocking. There was a lot of filler characters and random side stories (the big pharma thing?? what was really the point of that, except that it put Avery on edge). A ton is packed into the last part of the book, but I was hoping for a more shocking reveal.
Overall, I felt that this would be a good "starter" thriller for someone new to the genre- I was just a bit bored and was left wanting more.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

A couple is having marital problems and decides to see a therapist. Avery has an unconventional ten-step program, which she uses in her counseling. The story has many twists and turns.

I have enjoyed several Hendricks/Pekkanen books in the past. Unfortunately, this one presented issues that were bothersome to me. The reader quickly learns that Avery has lost her professional license. I found the therapist's procedures to be unprofessional, of questionable legality, and unbelievable. The couple in question does not appear to be a "golden couple."

Despite my disappointment in this novel, I hope to read future books from these authors.

YES YES YES! ALL OF THE STARS! I read anything that Greer and Sarah put out - they are dynamite when writing together. I found this book to be suspenseful and intriguing, while not being all that terrifying - a win in this scaredy-cat's book! :)

Wow! This one kept me guessing right to the end. Such well developed characters and the writing style was terrific to keep you engrossed in these characters until the end. I would love to read another story on Avery and other clients, she’s a super sleuth. Definitely a book to recommend.

3.5 Rounded Up.

I received a reviewer copy of The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks; Sarah Pekkanen from the publisher St. Martin's Press from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

What It’s About: Avery is therapist who is unorthodox to say the least. She completely investigates her clients and tries to catch them off guard. She takes on the case of Marissa and Matthew Bishop a couple who seems to have it all and are referred to as the "golden couple" until Marissa's unfaithfulness. From there we weave an interesting domestic novel (I too would say this book isn't really a thriller and the mystery isn't very well set up).

What I Loved: I was a bit nervous about this read. I don't usually love thrillers and I don't love therapists who are unethical (see my hatred of Group)! I loved this one, Avery was just enough of an outside the rules type of therapist to intrigue me. The characters were nuanced and the plot was well plotted. I felt that there was enough suspense to keep me moving forward. I really did enjoy this one. There are enough different angles and chains moving but not so many that you can't keep up.

What I didn’t like so much: If you're here for the thriller, this is not thriller. It's more mysterious! It's more subtle and I don't know if the only reason I felt suspense was because like I knew that this was marketed as a thriller and so therefore I knew about a murder. The connections to the murder don't seem important until they are. To the point that it feels a little flimsy.

Who Should Read It: People who love domestic noir!

General Summary: A couple struggling in their marriage seek the help of an unconventional therapist, but what is really going on behind the scene?

Marissa and Matthew Bishop look like the perfect couple, with a son, great jobs and a lovely home in suburban Washington, DC. And then Marissa cheats on Matthew and they end up in counseling with Avery Chambers, a therapist who has lost her license, but offers a unique ten-session program for those in crisis that requires participants adhere to her unconventional process.

As Marissa and Matthew begin to unravel the complications of their relationship, their family and their emotions, events begin to occur that hint at deeper issues and secrets not yet revealed. Avery is drawn into what seems to be a collision course with the Bishops’ complicated life.

The Golden Couple is an addictive read, not something you pick up to fill in a few minutes here or there. I found myself not wanting to put this suspense-filled story down as I followed the story told from the points of view of Marissa and of Avery.

This amazing writing duo know how to build the twists and turns, challenging the reader to unravel the clues and figure out who is telling the truth and who is the danger hanging over all their heads.

I’ll be watching for the next book by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

Oh man, I love a good therapist plot line, and this one delivers in aces. Avery, a therapist who has lost her license and has rebranded herself as a "life coach" who guarantees her patients to be "healed" in only 12 sessions, but the catch is they have to follow all of her highly unorthodox methods. When married couple Marissa and Mathew seek her help after Marissa's infidelity, they are in for quite the ride of their lives. Both predicatbale enough to make me feel smart for figuring out some of the twists, and suspenseful enough to keep me guessing where the plot was headed, this story was fun, quick, and satisfying.

Wow, what an amazing book! This was my first book by these authors, but it will not be my last! I was captured from the beginning and found myself reading well past my bedtime. Everybody needs a therapist these days, and I wish Avery was in my town. Marissa and Matthew have it all, or so we think. Halfway through the book, I had decided that I really didn't like Skip, but the twist in the plot near the end definitely changed my mind about him. I did not see that coming! I will definitely be recommending this book to others. I'm convinced that next I will be reading The Wife Between Us.

I adore this writing pair! All of their books have been memorable reads. I love that all of their work centers female main characters and that they bring new twists to domestic thrillers. Their newest might just be my new favorite (although The Wife Between Us was just so good).

Avery, is a former licensed therapist with a controversial new 10 session program. Matthew and Marissa are a wealthy couple looking to heal their marriage after Marissa’s infidelity, but as it turns out there’s more secrets that threaten everyone involved.

I devoured this book! I love a therapist main character, but outside of one of my favorite tropes this was an exciting domestic thriller. Multiple POV, untrustworthy characters, and intertwining subplots that made for unexpected plot twists.

I received this e-galley from @netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

These authors are always a fun read. I was so excited to get approved for this one. It was a fast read with the perspectives switching between a few different characters. I didn’t predict the end which had a pretty good twist. Highly recommended.

While I’m not the most seasoned of thriller readers, I went into this book with high hopes.

Things I LOVED about the book, was the depth of each character, especially Avery. She came in seemingly unlikeable, but as we peeled back the layers through the story, we begin to see that perfect people are never quite perfect, and no one is ever as they seem.

My favourite thrillers have the prefect red herring, with a twist that makes my jaw drop. The Golden Couple delivered! What a delicious ending!

My only qualm was the pacing. Boy, was it hard to get through that first half of the book. Fortunately, I pressed on and the juiciest bits laid among the final half of the book!
