This book was just not for me. I found not a single character likeable which I do not mind in thrillers but I did not understand their motivation which is make or break for me as a reader. I did love the wife between us by the author duo previously but have not enjoyed their following works. I am unsure I will pick up future works unless I hear rave reviews of the book.

I'm always up for reading the new Greer Hendricks/Sarah Pekkanen book and this one didn't disappoint! This book surprised me. I wasn't sure where the story was going to go, but with a lot of twists and turns it kept me engaged. I had expected the ending to go one way, and was pleasantly surprised be how it turned out.

I am a huge Greer Hendricks/Sarah Pekkanen fan. I have read almost every book they have written, and I am always looking for their newest book. So when STP contacted me to read/review The Golden Couple, I jumped on it. This book was fantastic!! I am happy that I read it.

The Golden Couple had an exciting plotline. Avery is a controversial therapist who has lost her license. She has a ten-session program that she guarantees will change the lives of her clients. Marissa and Matthew Bishop are new clients whose marriage is in trouble. Marissa has cheated and wants to repair her marriage for the sake of their 8-year-old son. But there are more secrets in Marissa and Matthew’s marriage than Avery expected. Who will survive the secrets? And who is hiding the biggest secret of them all?

Psychological thrillers are one of my favorite genres to read. I love having my head messed with, and The Golden Couple delivers on that. There are so many twists and turns in the plotline that I almost had an issue keeping up. That made it so much more delicious to read.

Avery was a very unreliable narrator who operated in a morally gray area. She honestly wanted to help her clients (and did with resounding success), but her methods were unorthodox. I disagreed with how she gathered information on her clients, but hey, if it works, it works. There was a point where she seemed to be coming unraveled, but I loved how the author resolved that. It was perfect!!!

I didn’t care for Marissa at first. She blindsided her husband (and Avery) with the confession that she had cheated. She refused to name who she was cheating with and played victim every time Matthew got upset with her. But, as the book went on, I started to see that she had reason to be paranoid, and my opinion began to change. The only thing I even found fault with, after a while, was that she still refused to name the person she cheated with. At one point, I was like, “Girl, just tell THEM.”

Matthew was an enigma the entire book. I didn’t quite know what to think about him. His actions kept me a little off-center for the whole book. He seemed to love Marissa and was willing to do anything to fix their relationship. But then he would blow up at her. At first, I thought it was normal (he was mad), but it started to ring false to me as the book went on.

The mystery angle of The Golden Couple was terrific. I could not figure out who the mystery man was, but I was wrong about what was going on with Avery. The twists in the plotline took me by surprise. The major twist left me sitting there with my mouth hanging open (I am sure I looked like a fool) and an explosive “No EFFING Way!” coming out of my mouth. Side note: Don’t do that in the middle of the night. It wakes up grumpy husbands and 8-year-olds who don’t sleep very well.

The suspense angle of The Golden Couple was just as amazingly written. I was kept on the edge of my seat, wondering about all different things (some of which I can’t put here because of spoilers).

The end of The Golden Couple was very anti-climatic. There was a minor plot twist that involved Avery. Out of everything in this book, I did see that coming. Still, I liked that it ended on a good note instead of making me wonder “what if.”

I would recommend The Golden Couple to anyone over 21. There is language, mild violence, and no sex.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of The Golden Couple in exchange for an honest review. When wealthy couple, Marissa and Matthew are having marital problems, they decide to try a controversial therapist. Avery Chambers has some extreme methods that she uses to help save relationships. This domestic suspense sucked me in and kept me on the ride of all the twisted turns!

Wow! What a jaw dropping, twisty story this was!

I went into this book a little unsure of how well I would like it. What a great surprise to get so fully captivated into the story and enjoy all of the unsuspecting twists that the author sprinkled in!

Avery, a no longer licensed therapist, has taken an unconventional approach to help her clients. Marissa seeks out Avery’s help to save her marriage. What neither one expects is the journey they will go on to find resolution in their own lives.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for all the psychological thriller lovers!

Thank you to NetGalley and St Matins Press for a eARC to read and review!

What a ride! This book is unputdownable and I would have finished it in a day if I hadn't been traveling. Thank goodness I was so I could devote more time into reading the book. The story had me guessing from the beginning and took me on journey that I did not expect. I expected a deep dive into marriage and that dynamic but never guessed all of what happened next. And talk about the "therapist" who was unconventional and had her own story and things to hide. Please write more of these!

Thanks for #StMartinsPress and the authors as well as #Netgalley for a readers copy of the book in exchange for an honest review

The only thing Avery Bishop and the word "average" have in common is their first three letters. She is anything but your average therapist; in fact, "unorthodox" is a far better term to describe her, and her newest clients Marissa and Matthew Bishop are about to discover how far outside the box Avery is willing to go to help their marriage after Marissa confesses that she slept with another man. There's a reason Avery isn't licensed anymore, but her new freedom certainly lets her be more ... ummmm ... creative in her approach!

This is my first book by the duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and I wasn't disappointed. I read it on my Kindle while also listening to the audiobook, wonderfully narrated by one of my faves, Marin Ireland, and Karissa Vacker, both of whom brought the characters to life perfectly - even the Bishops' young son Bennett, which can sometimes be tricky for narrators to do authentically.

I'm not going to deep dive into the book, since plenty of reviews have done that already, but if you enjoy a book that keeps you guessing until the end and where you suspect nearly EVERY character at some point, you'll enjoy this one. It's not full-on thriller, but more simmering suspense and mystery, and I thought the authors did a stellar job with misdirection. My only complaint might be that, while I loved the final reveal, some aspects of the ending afterward wrapped up a little too neatly and easily, but nothing that took away from my enjoyment.

I'll say this: Avery may not play by the book, but I'm glad she's the star of this one. She's a fun character, and I hope I'll be seeing her again!

★★★★

Thanks to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley, and authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen for this ARC. My opinions have been given freely and honestly. This is now available.

After losing her professional license, Avery Chambers is a therapist who feels free to develop her own methods. When a seemingly perfect couple, Matthew and Marissa Bishop, agree to do whatever it takes to repair their marriage after Marissa's infidelity, they set in motion events no one saw coming.

This, like previous books by these authors, is a read full of twists and turns. I can honestly say I did not see any of the reveals coming, and thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

Though I was very excited to read this one because of its 2 authors, I struggled to WANT to read it when I had time for it. The story wasn't especially interesting, and the characters made my eyes roll so hard my contact lenses got stuck in my eyelids. Avery's unusual counseling practices held some entertainment value, but she was more of a sleuth than a therapist. The best part of the book was Romeo.

Don't hate me, y'all!! This one was really not that impressive to me, though. I LOVE that so many others loved this book, but it just didn't connect with me.

The first 50% of the book dragged for me. I would have DFN'ed if I was wasn't reading this for a book club discussion..The next half of the book did pick up, but when I reached 89%, I still wasn't feeling crazy about this book. The book REALLY picked up the last 10%, which kind of infuriates me. Why did I have to get up to the 90% mark in order to become invested in the plot?

I also found this to be way too predictable. Given the praise I've seen over this book on both Goodreads and Bookstagram, I was expecting a super twisty and thrilling read. I personally did not find this book to be either of those things; although, there was one twist in particular I did not see coming.

Overall, I'm feeling kind of MEH about this one. I will most certainly not give up on these authors, though! I have their other books on my shelf that I've been eager to read!

Many thanks to @netgalley, St. Martin's Press and the authors for providing me with a copy of The Golden Couple in exchange for my honest review!

This was very suspenseful! Marissa has a secret to tell her husband Matthew. She reveals it while they are in with their therapist. The suspense builds as the characters stories are revealed. And even more as they interact with the other characters. There’s a lot more that’s underlying the secret that Marissa has revealed.

I actually listened to this one instead of reading it and that was a great way to take it in. Hendricks and Pekkanen write one-night-stand books for me. I don't need to remember them clearly the next day to have enjoyed them while I was reading.

I enjoy this writing duo's style very much. The premise is intriguing. A "Golden Couple" who seemingly have it all seek out therapy because of infidelity. The therapist has a very unconventional approach that involves 10 specified sessions.

It started out really strong and I was all ready for the story to unravel. But it took its time to do so. There were sideline characters added to try to throw off what was happening and who was involved. Some of that I felt was not needed. I was hoping for more therapy type sessions and learning about the therapist's unique approach but she seemed to turn into more of a Sleuth. Plus her added plot seemed rushed and not needed. Overall you really must suspend your belief with how things worked out.

While, I still liked the story overall it was nothing mind-blowing. My favourite from this duo is still, "The Wife between us." However, I'm still looking forward to what else they come up with in the future.

I'd like to Kindly thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for granting me access to this Advance Reader Copy.

An enjoyable thriller. The plot ties together in predictable ways, there aren't really enough major characters to establish effective red herrings, but it's still fun to see how it all unspools.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a compliemtary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

These ladies write such good thrillers together! The stroylines are well thought out and imaginative; the pace is great and the twists and turns keep on coming.

This book is told in two viewpoints; Marissa, who has commited the ultimate marital sin, she has been unfaithful to her husband, Matthew whom she loves very much. Through a suggestion from a friend, she seeks out a controversial therapist who has lost her license but is highly recommended. Avery is the therapist and she has created a ten step program for her clients to solve their issues and where she is no longer licensed, does not have to play by the rules. When Avery meets with golden couple, Marissa and Matthew, she has no idea what secrets they are holding but she agrees to assist them to get their marriage back on track but only on her terms.

Everyone in this book has secrets and kept me guessing right to the end. Great book!

I was provided an ARC via netgalley, however I did end up listening to the final published version of the audiobook. As always, all opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this domestic thriller. It has some nice twists and turns to keep you guessing, and it doesn't have any graphic sex or violence. This alternates between the perspectives of Avery, the therapist with some unorthodox practices, and Marissa the wealthy socialite who wants to save her marriage. Avery has a 10 step therapy program, where each session has a specific goal. In order to achieve that goal for her clients, Avery becomes almost a Personal Investigator to learn as much as she can about her clients. In this case the Bishops, Marissa and Matthew, have alot of untold secrets between them and Avery inserts herself right in the middle of it all. As Avery works with the Bishops on their marital woes, she is dealing with an issue of her own. As the story unfolds we come to find that her clients and her personal issues may be connected, but Avery can't quite figure out how. I thought that all of the suspense and thriller elements were nicely woven together to make a cohesive story. There were plenty of red herrings to keep you on your toes wondering if that detail or character was something to remember for later.

I appreciated that there was a narrator for each of the POVs so you could tell if you were in Avery's perspective or Marissa's perspective. Both narrators did a good job distinguishing character voices in their chapters.

This is my second book by this author pair, and while I didn't love the other book this one has me wanting to pick up more by the duo. I found this audiobook hard to put down.

The Golden Couple is an incredible thriller full of unreliable characters and a compelling story. I spent the entire book desperate to figure out who the villain was and was floored by the reveal. Absolutely fantastic!
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title. All opinions and mistakes are my own.

This was a fun thriller but not my favorite from the author duo. The plot kind of dragged at times because it was hard to be invested in every aspect of the plot. There's a lot of moving pieces in this story, but it was a fun time that kept me interested enough to finish in a couple of days.

TITLE: The Golden Couple: A Novel
AUTHOR: Greer Hendricks and
Sarah Pekkanen @greerhenricks, and @sarahpekkanen
AUDIO: Macmillan Audio via @libro.fm
NARRATORS: Karissa Vacker & Marin Ireland
PUB DATE: 03.08.2022 NOW AVAILABLE

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen does it again with this exciting thriller I was hooked from the beginning. The story is about therapist Avery Chambers, whose methods resulted in her losing her license; which she claims allow her more freedom to use unorthodox approach as a “consultant” solving her clients’ issues in 10 sessions flat.

The story unfolds through the perspectives of Avery and Marissa (the client), whose complex issues are peeled into a shocking revelation. I enjoyed how the story developed, the details in the writing are such a delight to uncover into a satisfying ending I enjoyed manifesting right in front of my eyes. I enjoyed it so much!

AUDIO: Vacker and Ireland narrating The Golden Couple is truly a delight to the senses. They are both my favorites and they did a fantastic job capturing Avery and Marissa’s characters. The audio was so engaging I highly recommend it!
