The Golden Couple, by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, may well be the best psychological thriller I have read, surpassing Gone Girl and many others.

Rogue therapist Avery Chambers has a unique 10 session route to resolution. Marissa and Matthew Bishop have sought her help but Marissa has brought Matthew under the false pretense of an issue with their son, Bennett, when it is actually to confess her infidelity and to seek healing for their marriage.
In a flashback manner, Marissa reflects on meeting Matthew one summer when they were just kids. The summer when her best friend Tina was murdered. The back and forth to this time becomes integral to the story.

This is an excellent domestic thriller with so many twists the reader will not see coming. This is the first book I have read by this dynamic author duo but it will not be the last! I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

An engaging psychological thriller that had me hooked from the beginning. I was more invested in the therapists storyline than I was with the couple. This one got sidetracked a little in the middle and I lost interest, but regained it towards the end. Overall it was a thrilling, twisty read but not a favorite from this writing duo.

I am clearly a repeat fan of Hendricks and Pekkanen! I read a lot of psychological suspense and did not see this ending coming - I highly recommend this book! Avery is a former psychologist turned consultant after losing her license with her out of the box methods. She is hired by Marissa, to save her marriage. When Marissa and her husband Matthew begin the process with Avery, she soon learns her clients’ lives are even less straightforward than she had initially suspected. The plot thickens as we learn more about a host of characters surrounding both our Golden Couple and their doctor. I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.

On the surface Marissa and Matthew Bishop are living what appears to be an enchanted life. They live in a luxurious home in a Washington suburb with their young son. Busy with their careers and life in general Marissa begins to feel a distance from her husband. In a moment of weakness she is unfaithful to her husband. Determined to save her marriage and keep her family united Marissa seeks the help of Avery Chambers.
Avery is a therapist who relies on some unorthodox methods to treat her patients. Since she has lost her license Avery has more freedom in her approach to therapy that has proven to be successful.
As the therapy progresses Avery senses the couple is holding back. In order for the therapy to work, Avery is determined to find out which secrets Marissa and Matthew have yet to disclose.
I liked THE GOLDEN COUPLE. It was easy to read. The characters were interesting and the suspense built nicely. This is the first book I have read by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I tend to shy away from books written by two authors. I thought THE GOLDEN COUPLE proved to be a good collaboration and I would gladly read another book written by these authors.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced digital edition of this book.

It's a good book just not memorable. It's the kind of book you enjoy while reading but will never think about again.

This is not a bad thing, we all need fun books from time to time and this was definitely fun to read.

I didn't guess the twist so that's good. And I always enjoy the writing of this duo.

I would recommend it for anyone who's looking for a quick fun thriller to read.

The Golden Couple tells the story of Avery Chambers, a therapist who got tired of the slow therapy that waits for people to trip over their answers rather than give them direction. She took action and she lost her license for it. Now she is freed from the strictures of psychotherapy and has developed a 10-step treatment plan to help people. She really throws herself into it, too, investigating her patients, going to their home, and giving them assignments. But what happens when they are liars?

Marissa and Matthew Bishop are the golden couple in the title. They look the part, well-dressed, good-looking, and deeply in love. But there are secrets and Marissa confesses the first one, she has cheated on Matthew – once – and wants his forgiveness and to stay together. Matthew is in a towering rage, but still open to listening to Avery. And so begins their ten-session therapy.

But before they get to ten, things escalate, not just with the Bishops, but with a company that is threatening Avery to get her to name a whistle-blower.

There is one major flaw in The Golden Couple. I don’t think Hendricks and Pekkanen will make an Avery Chambers series and I am so ready for that. I want to binge an Avery Chambers series on Netflix. She is what I like in a character, self-aware, smart, and willing to take a stand.

The story is fair, though full of surprises. We are given the information we need but we might miss details because the writing is so propulsive that for me, I was reading too fast to be a great detective. I figured out part of the story but was still surprised a bit at the very end. That’s the best result, fair enough to figure out, tricky enough to surprise.

I really like this duo’s writing style! The characters were relatable and full of deception. It was quite a slow burn though, mainly action-packed for the last 15% of the story and I had suspicions about everyone!

The story is a multi POV thriller. Avery is an ex-therapist, now freelancing as a consultant. Her methods are unconventional but have proven successful. Marissa and her husband are having issues, and Marissa believes that Avery is capable of getting them back to the place they used to be.

Everyone has more secrets that will soon come to light, because secrets can only stay buried for so long.

This duo keeps getting stronger and stronger. The Golden Couple is a twisty, turning read with multiple POVs. It took me a few chapters to find my stride with the story, but I couldn't put it down once I did—an intriguing and unique read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen always leave me at the edge of my seat, and this book is no different. Told from alternating viewpoints of Avery, the Therapist, and Marissa, the wife, you really get a good feel for what is happening from all sides. And of course, to culminate in a shocker! I felt as though I was changing my opinions of the characters throughout the book, which is what the authors really went for, I was left unsure of who to trust and who to like. I can't wait for the next book from these great authors!

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks is a captivating mystery that started with a bang, then slowed down a bit but quickly picked the speed back up. It is the story of Marissa and Matthew Bishop, a beautiful, powerful couple that seems to have it all, yet as is often the case, there is a lot going on behind closed doors that reveal fractures in the perfection. Under the false pretense of going to counseling over their bullied son, Marissa blindsides the first session by revealing she cheated on Matthew. The counselor she chose uses a new method she came up with after losing her professional license and Marissa is hoping it will be just what she and Matthew need to be successful at coming back together. The problem is that there is a lot more going on that has yet to be revealed and once it is, it seems like it may be impossible to move on. The story has really good pacing, there is a great backstory given on each character, and the twists and turns are surprising.

Got to be honest, I'm a little over the poor little rich girl story of woe. The red herrings in this one kept me guessing, but I just wasn't as entertained as I had hoped to be. Sadly, not a favorite.

Yet another incredible book from the duo that is Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. THE GOLDEN COUPLE was so difficult to put down and, just like their previous books, there were plenty of moments I found myself whispering “what the fuck” and in the best way possible. If the synopsis piques your interest in any way, then do yourself a favor and get this book.

As with their other books I don’t want to risk spoiling any of the plot, so I’ll try to keep it short and sweet. We get two alternating POVs, Marissa and Avery. Marissa has a secret she’s keeping from her husband and is seeking the help of a therapist. Avery has recently lost her license but her unorthodox methods are known to be life changing. Her ten session approach is intense and is meant to push the boundaries but she couldn’t have imagined what she was getting involved in when Marissa and Matthew Bishop walked into her office. What seemed like a simple infidelity confession has turned into something much more dangerous.

What I love about their books is that after each Part there’s always some revelation that makes you completely reevaluate what you thought was happening. There were so many working pieces and they all worked together so well without feeling rushed or disjointed. I think the pacing was consistent and the short chapters are always my downfall for “just one more”. This author duo is firmly an auto-buy for me and I’ll continue to snatch up anything they release.

The book has a very intriguing concept but I personally did not get along with the execution. I was intrigued by the ex-therapist who does not need to follow the rules/laws. But i disliked how predictable the whole story was. I wasn’t able to connect with any characters and the first 100 pages were really slow. I also disliked how every character was connected to the final discovery

This was a trope I might have read few too many times but regardless, the book kept me hooked enough to keep on reading. Ever since The wife between us (that blew my mind) I’m expecting the shocking twist in each novel this duo brings. With that being said this wasn’t my favorite (still is The wife between us lol) but I truly enjoyed it. Overall, well done.

This author really kept me going in this book. I felt for each of the main characters throughout the book and thought there was good development. That definitely changed with the twist at the end! highly recommend. Thanks netgalley!

Everyone knows a couple who the think is the Golden Couple: they have the right appearance, tells the best stories, have the perfect house/kids but are things always what they seem?

The Golden Couple takes us through the complicated marriage of Marissa and Matthew. They seem like the perfect couple but things start to unravel as they start untraditional therapy with Avery after Marissa cheats on her husband. Marissa wants to repair her marriage for her son Bennett and also for Matthew who she loves deeply.
But Avery is no run of the mill therapist, she lost her license due to her unconventional practices with clients. Can her 10 step program fix this marriage or will this process bring up more secrets and lies?

I didn't connect with Matthew and Marissa but I really enjoyed Avery's character development. Her unethical methods worked because people hide things even when they want help fixing complicated problems. I loved the fast paced nature of The Golden Couple and couldn't put it down until I figured out the ending.

Thanks Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me a copy to read and review.

Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem to be a Washington power couple. When Matthew discovers that Marissa had an affair he is livid but agrees to counseling with unorthodox professional, Avery. You aren't ready for the twist and turns in this story. I couldn't stop reading to find out what happened next. It seems Matthew has a few secrets of his own to keep hidden. A page turner. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I was very excited about this book from the synopsis and reviews I read online, and I got hooked in the first couple of chapters. The authors do a good job of creating intriguing characters. The therapist is very mysterious and is clearly hiding something. The picture-perfect couple is struggling with secrets that begin to unravel. I feel like the book had all of the makings of a great thriller but the execution just wasn't there for me. I felt like the story lost steam as it went on and I found that my interest in it kind of dragged through the middle/end. I felt that the suspense created didn't lead to an exciting reveal in the way that a great thriller delivers. This is why I would give the book 3.5 stars/5.

Lie. Lie. Lie. Holy buckets people, can anyone tell the truth? It wasn’t like these individuals were digging themselves into a hole with their deceptions, for they were already sitting in their holes. They were now just wondering how they were going to get out of it, successfully.
The “therapist” definitely had some unusual techniques which gained her some new clients but at a cost. Avery knew how to be a professional, she knew which lines not to cross but Avery preferred to get to the heart of the matter and get results. She was a therapist and continued to be one, even when they removed her license. Avery had expectations, she was motivated, and if you were serious and willing to put everything on the line, she’d be the one to help you through your most difficult time.

Marissa and Matthew, they were the golden couple. I tip my head back and laugh…...ha, ha. On the outside, they put on a good show (like so many other individuals) but beneath it all, there’s a storm brewing. Perhaps their storms will calm down and perhaps they’ll turn into a hurricane, who knows how the wind will blow. I thought it was sneaky how Marissa got Matthew to come into Avery’s office at the beginning of the book. This got the story started for me and I felt that perhaps Marissa values her relationship with Matthew and wanted to save it. Tennis Match: Learning more about Matthew, I began to think I was rooting for the wrong person, what the heck is Marissa think she’s doing? They’re a couple because? This book was more of a mystery for me than a thriller. Lots of fun with this book. #thegoldencouplebook
