I don’t know why I finished this book. It left a lot to be desired. First, it is supposed to be about a “golden couple” who are in crisis. Ok, I did not get the vibe that they were “Instagram perfect” or that they seemed in love at one time. The therapist who is narrating part of the time is unprofessional and seems too unstable to be helping other people. But I could have went with that if that is what I had to work with. However, these authors went ahead and added a bunch of ancillary characters and a second plot that distracted from the primary storyline. It wasn’t so much confusing as it was unentertaining. I had to force myself pick it up to read because I just didn’t care. There were some twists and even a big reveal at the end but I honestly felt that they were trying too hard. I really enjoyed The Wife Between Us and Anonymous Girl. This one just didn’t work for me.
I absolutely love this author duo! The Golden Couple ranked pretty high up there for me. Pretty close to The Wife Between Us, which I absolutely loved!
The Golden Couple is told from view points of Avery and Marissa. Avery is an unconventional therapist hired by Marissa to help try to save her marriage after her betrayal of an affair. Avery’s methods are questionable and intrusive but she’s well known for helping others and comes highly recommended. While Avery digs into Marissa and Matthew’s lives, she finds they’re still holding back secrets. The paranoia is palpable with these two main characters while Marissa and Avery are both seemingly being stalked for previous indiscretions. I had an impending sense of doom and kept waiting for something terrible to happen to one or both of them. It was another great domestic thriller with suspense and mystery as part of the package. Another great read from these authors!

The Bishops--Marissa and Matthew--lead a privileged life with all the trappings wealth can provide. Their marriage, however, is on shaky ground after Marissa's infidelity is revealed. In an attempt to save their relationship, the couple seek the assistance of Avery Chambers, a therapist who lost her license several months before because of her unorthodox practices. As the Bishops participate in weekly therapy sessions, Avery's radical methods uncover secrets beyond Marissa's transgression, setting off a dangerous chain of events that will forever change the course of the marriage and the lives of those close to the couple.
The Golden Couple is a taut, suspenseful page turner with well-placed twists and turns. The story captivates from the very first chapter and maintains gripping attention until its unexpected conclusion.
Marissa and Mathew's marriage is in jeopardy and Marissa seeks out a therapist who lost her license due to unorthodox methods. With the therapist, Avery, they work through non-traditional methods which uncovers more secrets.
This story is very well laid out and easy to follow All the twists throughout the novel prevents the reader from putting the book down.
I enjoyed this book by these authors just like their previous works. I think they work really well together, and they write pretty interesting books. Just like their other books, I would say there isn't anything "new" here, as is my usual complaint with reading thrillers. The reason I continue to read and enjoy their books is the writing. The writing really brings me into the story and characters, and there is always a little something extra that pushes my rating up a star. I will definitely read their next book and hope they continue to collaborate.
[4.25/5] This author duo writes stories that flow so seamlessly. They’re easy to read and engrossing - a very good combination!
The Golden Couple is about a rogue therapist with a unique 10-step process for solving her clients’ problems. She agrees to take on a seemingly idyllic married couple - but she begins to doubt if they’re being honest with her.
This story is packed with secrets and mysterious connections. I loved Avery’s character - I always looked forward to reading her chapters. And while I’ve found myself less interested in domestic thrillers lately, I was drawn in by this one.
Overall, The Golden Couple is an intriguing, character-driven domestic drama with a lot of moving parts to keep you on your toes!

This is a twisty thriller that will keep you guessing until the end! I could not put this book down. The story of the golden couple and the therapist had me enthralled. The authors do a fantastic job of creating credible doubt in all of the characters motives that you don't know what or whom to believe.
A thank you to Netgalley for sharing the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Gonna keep this one short because there's not much to say that hasn't already been said aside from I, too, love it! It's my favorite by this dependable duo since they wowed me with The Wife Between Us. Unreliable narrators rock my world, particularly when they strike me as particularly devious. If your a nefarious loving reader, you'll enjoy the fine line between good(ish?) and evil. An unpredictable, chilling, thrilling thriller.
I enjoyed the book The Golden Couple. It focuses on a married couple and their marriage counselor. Everyone in the book has secrets, which was fun to unravel. I did think that the ending was a little predictable and not built up to well, but otherwise, this is a strong book by these two authors. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys mysteries and domestic thrillers.
Hendricks and Pekkanen gave me everything I was looking for---a unique premise for the plot, excellent writing and an appropriate ending (avoiding spoilers here). I loved each of the characters having their own chapters to provide their POV and those were meshed together flawlessly to keep the reader sufficiently engaged until the un-inevitable ending!
Thanks for the opportunity to read and review, provided by the publisher and Netgalley.
Marissa and Matthew have a life that others dream of having but Marissa holds a secret that could destroy it all. Hoping to regain what they once had Melissa finds a therapist whose unorthodox way of going about therapy might just work for her family. Avery Chambers feels as if she hasn't been told everything after meeting her newest clients. She hopes that they'll open up with her so her methods when it comes to therapy will work. As they sessions continue and more secrets come out in the open Avery begins to worry where all this will lead. She soon becomes worried for the family and decides she will do all she can to help. Will Avery's therapy work? Will all the secrets come out or will some remain hidden? Follow along in this exciting read and find out. This was a wonderful read that had me on edge wondering what would happen next!
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the chance to read The golden couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I was totally caught up in this read from the minute I picked it up. The golden couple is one of those books that keeps you turning the page in order to find out what happens next. The story is told through two voices: Marissa's, the wife who cheated but is desperate to save her marriage, and Avery's, the therapist who lost her license, but has come up with a 10 step program to help her clients. Marissa and Matthew seem to be the perfect couple, but their marriage is drifting, so Marissa persuades Matthew to see Avery, and drops a bombshell. Can Avery help them put their marriage back together? I wasn't sure whether to like Avery's character, or her 10 step methods, but somehow she won me over. I totally recommend this book!
I have now read each Greer Hendricks/Sarah Pekkanen cowritten novel and The Golden Couple ranks right up there with the best of them. For much of the book, the Bishop's part of the story read like a family drama with an undercurrent of thriller.....Marissa has cheated on Matthew, but it seems like the one-night-stand partner isn't going to let her go. The other main character in the book is Avery, a maverick psychologist whose alternative methods have caused her to lose her license, but given her the freedom to treat her clients on her own terms without the restrictions of traditional medicine. Avery's rogue ways have crossed one big enemy, and that enemy is wreaking havoc on her life now.
Both aspects of the novel work well. Avery was a unique character that I enjoyed reading about. Who hasn't wanted to be more like her in her ability to just do whatever she thinks is right? Is it dangerous to let one person make that determination without any guidelines or restrictions? Yes, but it would be fun. The Bishop's story seems familiar as it is a theme used in countless books, however, it grows more sinister as the book goes on.
I could not put the book down. Such a fun one!
***I received an ebook copy from the publisher at no cost***
If you're looking for a book that will hold your attention and keep you on the edge of your seat, The Golden Couple is where it's at.
Avery has a unique way of working with clients. After losing her therapy license, she starts doing private work in a ... less than traditional way. Melissa and Matthew are Avery's newest clients. As with almost all of the people she works with, one of the two has a secret with the potential to destroy the entire marriage. What Avery doesn't know is that taking on these clients will set off a chain reaction of events in all their lives that none would ever expect.
I won't share a lot with this one because I don't want to spoil this for anyone. The authors did a terrific job of crafting a storyline that's unique and suspenseful. For the most part, things moved at a good pace. There were a few areas in the book where the story kind of lagged a bit, with what I felt like were unnecessary details, which is why I gave it a 4 versus 5 stars. It didn't ruin the reading experience for me though. I was second guessing things all the time throughout the story. I would think I had things figured out and then the next few chapters would completely destroy my theories.
Character development was good. I even felt like I really knew and understood the secondary characters, which doesn't happen in a lot of books. The characters were relatable as well.
Four stars to this novel!
Thrillers are not always my jam; I usually find the characters unlikeable, the writing style annoying, and the overall plot and ending totally unbelievable. But this writing duo is the exception. After I read and loved The Wife Between Us, I was so curious to know if it would be another home run, and they didn’t let me down! The alternate perspectives kept me guessing, red herrings in the form of lots of supporting characters had me second guessing everyone, and while the ending was a bit rushed, I loved it.
Another good one by a couple of gifted authors. Each book seems to get better than the last.
HIGHLIGHT FROM THIS BOOK:
Grief isn't linear. It isn't logical. There's no structure or civility to it; it grabs you when you least expect it and digs in its nails until you succumb.
This book is one that really keeps you guessing. You think you have it figured out but another twist. A few characters who seem to be totally off and in to hurt the Bishops. Is it jealousy or something more sinister? Could it be from the affair or is it way more? I thought I had it but I didn't. This one took me by surprise. And it's kind of like reading two stories in one. With what is happening in Avery's life and what is going on with Marissa and Matthew. Two things to try and figure out.
Marissa has a secret and she needs to tell her husband, Matthew. She wants to tell him and come clean. Hope for forgiveness and a new start. To possibly make their marriage new again. Or close to new. Be more like a couple and not THE GOLDEN COUPLE that everyone thinks they are. But the loving couple they once were.
Avery is a therapist who has a few secrets of her own. But her life is dedicated to helping others get on with their lives. To deal with things in a better way. Some seem to come back and bite her. Others live happy lives. Her way of dealing with people seems to work. But will it work for the Bishops or will it help them to move on apart? Will someone end up hurt? Lonely? Alone? Dead? It's possible that all will happen but Avery will do all she can to help them work things out. Together.
I really like almost all of the characters in this book. They each play an important role in the events that happened. Even the very tiny things are important. Marissa has a business and a young woman who works for her that may not be who or what she seems. Matthew's ex may want him again. Marissa may be hiding more than she confessed too. But with Avery's help all of the things will come out.
Another very well written page turner for fans of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. One that will have you on the edge of your seat many times. Turning the pages to find out what happens next. There are parts that will make you cry also. It did me. I think maybe my favorite character was Avery. She was a bit out there at times but very likable and got things done. She took care of business. She took her clients in and held them close. She did all she could to help them get on track and stay that way. She was likable all the way.
Thank you #NetGalley, #GreerHendricks/SarahPekkanen, #StMartinsPress for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book.
5/5 big stars. It's so good. I highly recommend this one. And it published today.
I really enjoyed this book.
Besides being a page turner, the slow burn of twists and turns kept me at the edge of my seat while reading.
Interesting psychological thriller with characters and a plot that kept me guessing till the end
My second read from these Authors and I can't wait to wrap my brain around more of their books!
Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martins press and the Authors Greer, Hendricks for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Desperate to save her crumbling marriage, Marissa Bishop contacted a therapist she had recently read about, a woman who had a most unconventional style, who had recently lost her license. Convincing her husband Matthew to go with her seems almost impossible, but surprisingly Matthew agreed and the first appointment was scheduled. As Avery begins the session with Marissa and Matthew, she pays close attention to what isn’t said, and to learn if the information she’s uncovered in her research is verified.
Matthew and Marissa are definitely The Golden Couple, with successful careers, a smart and handsome son, a beautiful home, and so on, but you never truly know what people are like in the shadows. I loved seeing Marissa in particular grow and change, and appreciated the support she received from her friends. This book was a constant surprise, with my chosen suspect changing with every new chapter. Told from alternating viewpoints, through Marissa and Avery, I enjoyed seeing their reality and their personal demons. As always, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have crafted an interesting and exciting story that leads the reader on an unforgettable journey.
I've read every Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen novel, and I really enjoyed all of them, so of course I was excited to read The Golden Couple. I had such a hard time putting this book down...it was full of secrets and twists, and I couldn't wait to find out how it would all turn out. The characters were interesting, and I would gladly read more books about Avery. I loved the ending and didn't see it coming at all, and though I was happy to know how it ended, I was also sad that it was over. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this amazing thriller. : )
I always enjoy this duo’s thrillers and The Golden Couple did not fall short. Each book reads even more fast paced than the last. And while you might feel you can easily guess whodunnit there are always those satisfying twists and turns throughout that will you have second guessing yourself.
