The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen was a suspenseful read that had me guessing until the very end. Marissa and Matthew looked like the perfect couple on the outside but looks can be deceiving. When Marissa is unfaithful, they decide they need a therapist. Enter Avery, who is unconventional in her methods. She is no longer truly allowed practice but continues to do so with anyone willing to try. Her methods are proven successful, but at what cost? I do not want to give too much away, as this story should be experienced, however, what follows is a story that will take you through twists and turns told is dual point of views that was captivating.

Happy reading!

I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Marissa and Matthew Bishop are considered a golden couple they seem to have it all. They have been sweethearts since their teenage years. Matthew is a partner in a prestige's Washington D.C. law firm and Marissa has a little boutique as well as taking care of her family and being involved with her son's various school functions and being the fill in for his cub scout meetings. Over time it seems that husband and wife are drifting apart, and this leads Marissa to having an affair. The couple finds themselves in front of Avery Chambers who is a controversial therapist who runs a ten-step program to fix or attempt to fix those who come to see her. This method is so out of the so-called norm she has lost her license to practice but there are those who claim she has saved their life and others despise her methods. It seems that all the characters except young Bishops have secrets that are slowly revealed through the book with interweaving the characters together and this makes this book a real page turner all the way up to the last couple of pages. Give this a read you will not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this novel! This is the first book I've read by these authors, and we'll definitely be hand selling this at our Independent Bookstore. I loved the fast pace, couldn't put this one down! This will also be a subscription box selection for our Mystery customers this May! Excellent!

When I read the premise of The Golden Couple, I honestly wasn't that intrigued. But I should've known a novel written by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen would capture my attention from chapter 1 and take me on a wild and twisty ride! I read this in a weekend and it was the perfect palate cleanser between more serious/literary novels.

The plot features Marissa and Matthew Bishop, an attractive successful husband and wife (the titular Golden Couple) and Avery Chambers, a controversial therapist who agrees to use her unorthodox methods to fix their marriage. I was so interested to learn the backstories of these characters and get glimpses of Avery's other patients. In addition to unraveling the issues in the Bishop relationship, intriguing storylines involve Marissa's employee, a Bishop family friend, and Avery's obsession with her personal safety. Red herrings abound, and I was so curious to see if/how these threads would braid together. Just keep in mind, as with other Hendricks/Pekkanen stories, nothing is as it appears.

Reading this via audiobook narrated by Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland, primarily on a solo road trip, was perfect to make the miles fly by. It felt like Avery and Marissa were my passengers, telling me more and more about their lives, both the public and very private.

Many thanks to St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio, Libro.fm, and NetGalley for the review copies of this domestic thriller.

THE GOLDEN COUPLE is another character driven tale with a pretzel twist ending. It's exactly what I have come to expect from the duo of Hendricks and Pekkanen. They manage to weave an intricate web of deceit that makes it almost impossible to tell the good guys from the bad.

THE GOLDEN COUPLE is told as first-person narratives from two different women… Avery Chambers, a somewhat disgraced therapist, and Marissa Bishop a new client in Avery's consulting business. Marissa, and her husband Mathew, want to repair their broken marriage and hope that Avery's 10-visit program will set them on the path back to romance. True to form, nothing is really as it seems. Avery knows this and goes right to the heart of the problem with the first consultation she titles Confession.

I really hate the pigeonhole that is 'women's fiction' of which THE GOLDEN COUPLE is a shining example. I like my fiction to be genderless and enjoyed by all who love to read as I do. All of the characters start out as enigmatic entities until their secrets begin to unfurl. Even then, you won't be able to know who to trust until the final chapters.

Slow burn mystery. What a read! I was pulling clues and thought I had figured it out. So many twists and turns. This book will have you gripping the pages and sitting on the edge of your seat!!

This one surprised me - in a good way! I was initially thrown off with my immediate dislike of the main narrator Avery, who lost her therapist license following some rogue techniques with previous clients. As she becomes increasingly entangled with her newest clients - the picture perfect Bishops - I became even more wary of her and her excessive self-importance. As the story went on though, and Marisa Bishop's story revealed itself more, luring me deeper into some sympathetic support for her character, I couldn't stop reading. The story had me questioning the motives of every single character introduced, and even when I pieced together pieces of the story, it didn't at all detract from my satisfaction of seeing it all play out.

I highly recommend this suspense novel. This book kept me guessing the whole time, and I really wasn’t sure what to make of Avery, the unlicensed therapist/consultant. The audible version is well done and kept me engaged the whole time.

I received complementary advanced copies of the audio and digital versions of The Golden Couple from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Since I've read other books written by these authors, I was super excited to read the Golden Couple. It captured me right away but then started to drag a it until I got about 30% into it. then I couldn't put it down! Great plot twists and I didn't guess what happened correctly, so that's always a plus! Would definitely recommend to a friend!

The Golden Couple has so many twists which keep coming one after the other after the other until the reader can’t seem to take anymore, but then they incredibly continue!

When Marissa and Matthew Bishop hit an impasse in their marriage, Marissa has been unfaithful and is afraid to tell Matthew, she convinces him to go to a marriage counselor under the guise of helping their 8-year-old son, Brandon. When they arrive at their first appointment, Matthew is hit with the realization his marriage was not as perfect as he thought.

Avery Chambers is a therapist who has recently lost her license but is still working just calling what she does crisis counseling. Her methods are unique and difficult, but those who stick with her, she promises will have a satisfactory outcome.

During the Bishop’s first session, Avery can see Marissa and Matthew are not being perfectly honest with her, but Avery has ways of finding out what and why they are keeping secrets. And the Bishops are both secret keepers. Part counselor and part detective she begins to see Marissa and Matthew who look as if they have it all, the golden couple to all those on the outside, may not be perfect or truthful. The more Avery digs, the less she is convinced of their outcome.

But while dealing with her increasing number of clients, Avery is also having her own personal issues. She is being stalked by a corporation for assisting one of their employees in whistleblowing. They seem to know things about her no one should. Find her at their will and let it be known they will not stop until they get what they need.

So as the Bishops try to repair their broken marriage someone seems to not be too pleased. Anonymous flowers and notes are sent to Marissa’s work, strange texts arrive. Matthew starts to become suspicious. Marissa starts to be concerned it could be the man she cheated with, someone whose name she has yet to divulge to either husband or Avery. Her assistant Polly, seems to be acting strange as well. She has begun to emulate Marissa’s wardrobe, hairstyle and perfume. She also seems to be getting closer to Matthew for some reason.

Then just when Marissa sees the light at the end of the tunnel and feels she and Matthew are finally headed in the right direction, Avery and the Bishop’s worlds collide into an astonishing ending which is devastating, shocking and chilling. The Golden Couple is brilliantly cleverly written, and I miss Avery already!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing me an early copy of The Golden Couple. This did not influence my review.

Unequivocally the duo of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen does it again. From their first novel The Wife Between Us to You Are Not Alone this dynamic duo has kept me gripped with their suspense/thriller novels. I enjoy their writing styles and the way their stories flow.

Marissa and Matthew Bishop are The Golden Couple in the eyes of everyone else, but they have deep secrets and flaws; as most do. Marissa has a secret she needs to tell her husband can't seem to bring herself to do it. Cue hiring a therapist, but not any therapist one that has had her license revoked. Avery Chambers guarantees that she cave fix the relationship in 10 sessions.

I enjoyed the alternating view points of Marissa and Avery, being in both of their heads is interesting. And if you haven't guessed there are always more secrets than the one at hand.

4.5/5 stars

The Golden Couple is a thriller. This is my fourth book by this duo.

This book takes place around Washington, D.C and is divided into three parts. The narrators are Avery (1st person POV) and Marissa (3rd person POV).

Avery (41) is an unconventional therapist. And I absolutely loved her. She does not always play by the rules. And her brand of therapy was so enjoyable to read.

Marissa (38) is part of the "golden couple". She shows up with her husband Matthew for therapy.

I liked this book right from the start. I was invested in the story and characters and could not wait to see how everything would play out.

There were so many fantastic supporting characters. And I honestly had no idea who was lying, who was good and who was bad!? It was so fun finding the answers!

There were so many interesting things happening in this book. It was riveting. And I absolutely loved waiting for the big reveals at the end of each of the three parts of the book. Overall this was such a fun read that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

The duo has done it again! Another fun explosive thriller. Twists and definitely fooled me, the best kind of story!

Avery Chambers is a therapist with methods that are not approved upon, so she has her license revoked but, that doesn’t stop her being sought after. And one of those clients is Marissa and Matthew Bishop. Marissa has committed infidelity but that’s just the beginning. It spins so out that Avery needs to know how the man just is that Melissa invited into her life. The back and forth story told from Avery and Melissa come together into a manipulative thriller.

I love domestic thrillers. I might say I have an unhealthy love for them because I gravitate to them more. This story is built on these characters but also secrets. Secrets that twist and turn and had me up late needing to know the answers. There’s so much suspicion and doubt, that you’ll be captivated.

This was another fast-paced and page turning read from this writing duo. The story is told from multiple POVs, a different narrator for each chapter. Many times, this style lacks something, with one perspective less compelling compared to the others. I enjoyed each perspective and their interactions with each other.
The story is focused on a therapist who has lost her license due to a decision that she has made that went against the policies of the profession. This allowed her to approach therapy in her own unique manner. "The golden couple" were referred to her for therapy to help their marriage stay intact after infidelity. There are multiple characters involved in the story and by the final pages, each role is defined. There are twists and turns that are satisfying in this thriller.
Fans of Hendrix and Pekkanen will enjoy this latest effort.

This was not the first book I have read by writing duo Hendricks and Pekkanen. In early 2020 I read and reviewed their book "You Are Not Alone" and gave it a 4 star rating and in 2018 I read and reviewed "An Anonymous Girl" and gave it a 5 star rating.

Here we are in 2022 and I can say that their latest book is another fantastic read!

Therapist Avery Chambers has a very unique and unconventional approach to helping her patients. So unconventional that she has lost her license to practice, but accepts wealthy clients who know the risks to her therapy sessions.

Rich and beautiful couple Matthew and Marissa Bishop agree to fix their marriage via unconventional ways with the help of Dr. Avery. Both seem to still be keeping secrets from each other and from their therapist...

Soon we learn that Avery has a dilemma of her own. A previous client involved her with some very powerful and angry people. Is she being paranoid or does she have a stalker?

This book was slow to get into, but I did become invested in the characters. Little twists in the plot and new, slightly suspicious characters kept popping up along the way, making me question what was going on with the overall plot. These little surprises kept me engaged and interested.

This was not my favorite book from the writing duo, but I did enjoy the story from start to finish. If you are looking for a thriller I suggest pre-ordering "The Golden Couple" now, as it is set for U.S. release on March 8, 2022. It was a 4 star read for me!

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me an advanced digital copy to read and give my honest review.

Happy Reading!

Marissa and Matthew have hit a rough patch in their marriage. Marissa has done the unforgivable. She has cheated. And it is something she regrets every day! But, she and Matthew are trying their best to overcome this transgression. They decide to visit a therapist, Avery Chambers. But, Marissa’s fling is not going away as easy as everyone has hoped!

Oh my gosh y’all! This is the best book of the year for me! Talk about twisted! I have been a fan of this team of authors since their very first book. But, this one is their best…hands down!

This story and the characters just keep revolving around each other until you think you know what is going on…but guess what…it is not at all what you think!

The narrators, Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland are outstanding! Both narrators have a good many books to their credit! And I will be on the look out for more!

Need a book you will finish in one sitting…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

Everyone has a secret in this twisty thriller about a therapist and her clients. Avery, who lost her license as a therapist, still works with clients using a ten step plan. She's also a target of Big Pharma because of an anonymous tip to the FDA about side effects for a new drug- information she got from a client weighed down with the knowledge. Marissa and Matthew Bishop are her new clients and they both have secrets. Marissa admits hers in the first visit- she had a tryst with another man- but she's kept something back. Who was he really? And who, btw, is Polly, the assistant in her shop? This is addictive reading because just when you think you know what's going on, a new issue or character pops up to twist things a bit more. Good use is made of the DC setting (yay for the Humane Rescue Alliance and all of the restaurants). The perspective alternates between Avery and Marissa and while both have their faults, this makes them all the more realistic. No spoilers but the end was a bit of a surprise to me- a good thing. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A page turner!

What a fantastic, absorbing, slow burning read! This one hooks you and keeps pulling you along to the jaw dropping end! Everyone in this book has secrets, but they’re revealed slowly enough that you’re left wondering what in the world these people are up to! What are they hiding and what’s going to happen next? Psychological suspense at its best!

I enjoyed how Avery weaved herself into Matthew's and Marissa's lives. If you love an entertaining read that doesn't give itself away right away, then this book should not be missed!
