Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are the best psychological thriller dynamic duo! These two ladies can get together and write books that just leave you literally stunned. This was a book that once you start it, you will not want to put it down for anything. I love books that suck me in like that! All these characters with their lies and secrets are the perfect equations that makes this book so outstanding. I love how Greer and Sarah write each character's lives, and how clever they are at twisting the plots to connect everyone in some way. Bravo, ladies! 👏👏👏👏
The perfect couple, Marissa and Mathew Bishop, have chosen to work with a think outside the box therapist Avery Chambers. Ten sessions could save their marriage. I was kept questioning what would happen next. Who was telling the truth and who had secrets? Why was Avery stalking her patients? The end got fast and furious and kept me on the edge of my seat. Great book!! I would recommend this to all my friends.
I read and thoroughly enjoyed previous books written by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. This writing duo has an engrossing writing style, their characters are often morally gray and complex, and their stories always have unpredictable twists. The Golden Couple is their new domestic thriller, and it has all the signature elements. Like their previous books, The Golden Couple kept me guessing and eagerly turning pages. I highly recommend it to all thriller fans.
This is one of the most gripping, edge of my seat heart pounding and jaw dropping thrillers that I have read in a very long time. I was quickly drawn into this story and read it almost in one sitting. The Golden Couple is a thrilling ride that will leave you gasping until the very end! Each character has an angle and an agenda but their stories are expertly woven together and add many layers to the overall plot of the book. Avery , the therapist does a great job piecing everything together and she quickly became one of my favorite characters. This book will undoubtedly stay with me for a long time. What a great story with a shocking ending!
Marissa and Matthew Bishop are the very picture of perfection. The Golden Couple, or so everyone is led to believe.
Avery Chambers is a disgraced therapist due to her unusual techniques. Ten sessions with Avery guarantees results and Marissa hires her to reveal a secret she's been keeping from Matthew with the hopes they will be able to work through this without their marriage imploding.
"You can never truly know what is inside another person's heart or head."
Ain't that the truth?!?!
I have to say that this is one of the better psych thrillers I have read recently. This author duo managed to drop tasty little bread crumbs along the way that will compel any reader to turn the page. While my feelings flip flopped in regards to Marissa and Matthew my feelings toward Avery stayed true through out. I loved her. Did I mention she adopts a pit bull rescue? His name is Romeo and this gentle giant and their budding relationship warmed my heart. There are also some really well done twists and revelations that kept me on my toes. I believe any fan of this genre will dig this book. 4 stars!

The Golden Couple is close to perfect. There are so many characters that could be the good guys or the bad guys. My brain was contemplating options every minute I could not be reading. Avery is a bit of a crazy therapist- maybe she is trying to tear the Golden Couple apart. Or is it their past loves? Definitely do not start this book at bedtime- you will not want to put it down.
This was my first book by this author duo...I have heard a lot of mixed things. It definitely seems like people either love them or hate them...very little in between....Sadly this book fell short for me. I knew what was coming long before it hit. I didn't like the characters and found them very one dimensional Even the marriage seemed like a complete sham from page one.
Avery Chambers is not your traditional therapist. In fact, some might call her methods....unorthodox. But she has developed a 10-session method that works, even if it is a little intrusive. Okay, a LOT intrusive.
Marissa and Matthew Bishop walk into her office like a golden couple. Of course, they are not. Every relationship has some broken parts, secrets and lies. The one thing she asks of her clients is honesty. But Avery soon deduces that things are more than a little odd. After coincidences start piling up, Avery is even more determined to get past the picture-perfect Instagram marriage and through the layers and layers of deception.
I found myself constantly amazed at the way the author slotted in each of the 10 session titles that fit perfectly with the therapy that Avery provided. The characters were so well developed, you could almost sense their next move, but there were so many people conspiring in this story the ending was a great surprise!
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for another delicious read from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen!
The Golden Couple is a new psychological thriller by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. This book keeps you guessing eight until the end.
Marissa and Matthew Bishop begin therapy when Marissa discloses she has been unfaithful. Working with their therapist, Avery, everyone seems to be holding secrets just under the surface. As they work through their ten sessions, everyone is working to unravel the truth before it is too late.
Great read with great flow to the plot and careful character development. Highly recommended.
*I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
The twisted, absolute page turner you’ve come to expect from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.
Most married couples and long term partners know that relationships ebb and flow. After Marrissa’s infidelity threatens their marriage, she and her husband Mathew work with unconventional counselor, Avery, to try to salvage their marriage.
As they work to heal the gaps and hurt in their marriage, more secrets are uncovered that not only threaten their marriage but their lives.
The authors ability to weave all the characters and their baggage together leaves the reader dying to know what will happen next! The ending was equally thrilling.
I love this duo's books. They may not all be 5 stars (actually I've only given one of them 5 stars) but they are solid domestic mystery thrillers that keep you on your toes. I manifested this NetGalley ARC into being, I swear it. In August I was thinking hmm I wonder when Hendricks/Pekkanen will put out a new novel? It's been awhile. Looked it up on GR, ooh The Golden Couple 2022! Then just a few hours later I got a READ NOW email from NetGalley! Woooooo!! Fast forward to now, buddy read it, really enjoyed it. Some parts were mehhhh what? The characters were pretty unlikable. And the whole thing with Avery and the whistleblower came to such a weird, too-neat head. But overall, it was another great read from them and I'm already anticipating the NEXT ONE!!
Scandalous, absorbing, & absolutely unputdownable!
This was such a great thriller by the amazing author duo; Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. There were so many shocking twists and turns that I didn’t see coming at all. This book held my attention right from the first to very last page. I loved that I didn’t know who was telling the truth or who to believe. Would definitely recommend!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my advanced copy.
What I loved
Avery is a therapist like no other. She has a unique way of getting results for her clients, and she is confident she can in ten sessions. She spies on her clients to learn more about them.
Golden Couple Marissa and Matthew that does really feel good enough to be true, yet there is a sense that there is something more going on with them.
The pace!!! I often struggle with the pacing of a suspense novel and lose focus if the story is not tightly woven. I have no idea what drove the story forward, but I didn't want to put my kindle down. The story clips along at a good pace, and just when it seems like it needs to pick up, it does, and I was clicking the pages as fast as I could to get to the ending. I enjoyed figuring out who to trust, who is lying, who is keeping what secrets, and why. The climax is exciting, and by the time I reached it, I was sure I knew who not to trust, but the authors have some surprises with just how it all comes together.
That there wasn't anything that I didn't.
Loved every second of this addictive mystery/thriller, and once I reached the halfway point, it was unputdownable!
Therapist Avery Chambers may be unconventional, but she guarantees to fix your problems in only ten sessions. “The Golden Couple,” Marissa and Matthew Bishop, are no different. Everything was perfect for them until Marissa cheated.
Will Avery be able to fix them like her previous patients?
Everyone has more secrets that will soon come to light, because secrets can only stay buried for so long.
It took me awhile to predict the ending, and I appreciated how the authors pieced everything together. Written with an addictive style and multiple twists, The Golden Couple proved to be a solid read!
Marissa is keeping a secret from her husband, Matthew, that is eating her up inside. She had an affair. It happened only once but she is ashamed. She realizes afterward she still loves Matthew and doesn’t want to lose him. On the advice of a friend, Marissa makes an appointment with a therapist/consultant, Avery. She drags her husband along on a false pretense and tells him in the session of her infidelity.
He is enraged which she expected. She tells him she made a terrible mistake and professes her love. She is hoping that Avery will help their marriage if only Matthew will allow her a second chance. Avery explains how her therapy works and Matthew reluctantly agrees. At home, Matthew is distant but seems to be coming around.
As they work on bonding again, strange events swirl around them. People they work with or know all seem to have a stake in their marriage. Who is trying to influence this couple and why? Avery finds their involvement confusing and digs deeper on all of them.
WOW! I had to finish this book last night. The last fifty pages my heart was racing and I was breathing fast. The excitement was killing me! How was this going to end? I had to know! Once again Hendricks and Pekkanen wrote one heck of a thriller! If you have never read them before dive right in – you are in for a treat. Readers of Lucy Foley and B. A. Paris will revel in this book.

The Golden Couple by authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is a domestic thriller you won’t want to miss! I believe I’ve read every book they’ve ever written and I feel that they just keep getting better and better with each new release. This is the story of Matthew and Marissa Bishop. They are what is known as The Golden Couple. But this seemingly perfect couple has problems because their marriage has suffered from infidelity. There are secrets being kept so Marissa hires a therapist who promises she can repair their marriage in a mere 10 sessions. But Avery Chambers has secrets of her own. She has lost her license due to some pretty unethical tactics in her own personal life. This is a story that kept me guessing, not knowing who to trust or who to believe. It’s a story filled with secrets and the biggest one you won’t see coming until the very end. Believe me, I was both shocked and surprised! This is a book I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys suspenseful, domestic thrillers. I’d like to thank Erica Martirano, Director of Marketing at St. Martin’s Publishing Group for the invite and NetGalley for the arc to read, review and enjoy. I thought this was a great read and I’m giving it a 5 star rating!
Hendricks and Pekkanen have done it again! This one kept me guessing until the very end. I had suspicions that turned out to be correct, but I wasn't 100% sure and I just had to find out.
This was more of a 4-star not 5-star read for me due to a few challenges. I found the story slow at a few points. Also a number of characters outside of the core three (Avery, Marissa, and Matthew) didn't feel fully fleshed out, which was frustrating. I also would have liked if Avery and Marissa had different voices, their chapters read so similarly despite changing to their perspectives.
Overall, another win for Hendricks and Pekkanen.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC!
Expected Publication: March 8, 2022
You know it’s a good book when life gets in the way of your reading time!
Avery is a therapist whose license has been taken away and has less than traditional means of achieving success. Matthew and Marissa seek her out to help save their marriage after Marissa’s affair. But bigger secrets are about to be revealed and not everyone are as they seem.
I have really enjoyed this author duo and have read every one of their books as they know how to layout a great thriller! This book had everything – complex plot, multifaceted characters and twists and turns that had you turning pages from start to finish.

𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘦. This mystery/thriller follows a “maverick therapist” and a couple she is treating, the Bishops. On the outside, the Bishops are nearly perfect in every way. However, the deeper the therapist digs, the darker the secrets become.

I found myself reading this one late into the night - just one more chapter! I love that you get alternating chapters between the wife’s POV and that of the therapist. The suspense is high from the start! There are so many secrets and they unravel at the perfect pace - keeping you guessing until the very end. I had a few unanswered questions at the end, but thoroughly enjoyed the pacing and story!

Favorite line ~ “Losing my license was the best thing to ever happen to me — and to my clients.”
I generally get excited when I see that this author pair has a new book coming out. They can be depended on to deliver a fast-paced, fun domestic thriller that doesn’t require much from the reader.
The Golden Couple follows suit, with an entertaining premise - a supposedly perfect couple seeks help with their marriage from a disgraced, former therapist who employs some very unconventional methods to treat her clients.
The majority of the book was enjoyable, but I was disappointed with the ending, which was campy and seemed a little phoned in.
This was closer to three and a half but I’m feeling generous.
Thanks to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for this #arc of #thegoldencouple in exchange for an honest review.
