A BOTM February 2022 and definitely one of my favorites so far in 2022. I've been following and reading Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen since their first debut novel, and let me tell you they keep getting better and better. This book is no exception and just adds to their wonderful written works.

An engaging read where you are actually rooting for one of the main characters, a rarity in this genre!

When I saw that Hendricks and Pekkanen wrote another book together, I knew I needed to read it and I was so happy to get an advanced copy!

I thought this was a nice solid thriller. My only complaint is that there might have been too many story lines throughout the book—some seemed important, others not so much.

Marissa and Matthew seem to be the “golden couple”, but then Marissa cheats on Matthew. She wants to repair her marriage so she signs them up for therapy with Avery. Avery has a 10 session policy where she claims that she’ll be able to fix whatever your problem is within those 10 sessions—she also recently lost her license due to her controversial methods. But Marissa and Matthew are determined to make their marriage work, even if they don’t choose to share all their secrets.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin's Press for an advanced copy of The Golden Couple in exchange for my honest review

Best book by the authors so far! Suspenseful and definitely kept me guessing until the end! The characters are pretty well-developed, although it does seem that there was one storyline that was kind of forgotten about.

The Golden Couple is another fantastic thriller from Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen - I've come to expect twisty thrillers full of red herrings and unreliable narrators from them, and this book does not disappoint! While this is definitely another domestic thriller with a therapist trope, I think that there writing really made it their own and kept the book fresh and unique for me.

I love dual POV books when each narrator leads you in a different direction. I had my suspicions about where this book was headed and while I was right about somethings, it definitely took me until just before the very end to put it all together! It was unique in that I didn't particularly like either of the main characters, but was still incredible compelled to read their stories.

I would highly recommend reading The Golden Couple for your next thriller!

Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley for an advance copy. St. Martin’s Press is one of my very favorite publishers so I am always happy when they approve me for books. I wish that were true for this one. In fairness to the authors/book, suspense/thrillers and I aren’t always friends but I try one every few months because there are some good ones out there. Now let’s get in to what didn’t work for me about this book.

The Golden Couple was so incredibly convoluted and contrived that I almost found it funny. Almost. The premise is simple. Avery is a former therapist turned consultant who lost her license when she did something questionable with a client. This got her dubbed the Maverick Therapist and written up in the paper. As a former therapist, I probably should not have even requested this book or downloaded it if it was a read now but I was curious. Anyway, she gets all sorts of clients now to take part in her ten step program with a huge success rate (to hear her tell it).

Marissa and Matthew come to her for help and that’s when the twists and turns and ridiculousness start. I found it fairly predictable to be honest even with all the different ways the authors try to throw you off the trail. Honestly, the best part of the entire book was the dog Romeo. Can we just get a story about him and his cute face?

I wish I had better things to say but I think it’s time I stop reading these two as a pair. It’s not fair to anyone. But also? There can be TOO many plot twists.

The Golden Couple comes out March 8.

Avery Chambers has lost her therapy license due to her controversial techniques, but she continues to practice as a counselor with outstanding success rates. She can help people overcome just about anything in only 10 sessions. But at what cost?

Her newest clients are Marissa and Matthew Bishop, who by all appearances are the golden couple. However, things are rarely as they seem, and unfortunately Marissa is unfaithful. She is desperate to save her marriage both for her love of her husband and for their young son.

Soon, “all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.”

I really enjoyed The Wife Between Us, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC for the upcoming novel The Golden Couple. I definitely was not disappointed! This story is told from the alternating viewpoints of Marissa and Avery, two very intelligent and interesting women, but it is filled with many different intriguing characters. Although it was a little slow in the beginning, there were soon so many lies, manipulations, and twists - you never know whom to trust in this one!

The Golden Couple releases on March 8, 2022, and I recommend it for anyone who enjoys a good, slow burn psychological thriller!

Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing an ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.

A diabolical intelligent consultant named Avery.
Marisa and Matthew, a perfect couple is how everyone describes them.
These are the three main characters that captivated my attention over the past 24 hours because all of them have secrets and I needed to know what they were.

Hendricks and Pekkanen are brilliant together!

They write a story that ebbs and flows perfectly with tiny little bombs dropping throughout it that keeps your brain working and your attention captivated.

A must read for all those that love thrillers! There books will not disappoint!

This was my first book by this author duo. It started out kind of boring, but really picked up about halfway through. It was enjoyable to see the way the different characters in the story all connected and fit together. I did not see that ending coming and it took me completely by surprise.

I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the authors, publisher and NetGalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have mastered the dual POV in their previous books. Well developed characters, tightly written dialog and excellent suspense were the calling cards.

The Golden Couple, falls short of the excellence that I have come to associate with their work. Filled with narcissistic characters that were completely unlikable and unrelatable. The book had some excellent writing marred by a storyline that didn't flow well wasn't as believable or as well researched as their previous books.

Overall, it was a 3 star read.

A riveting domestic suspense thriller featuring a couple dealing with infidelity and the infamous therapist who claims to be able to solve couples' problems in ten sessions. Told in multiple POVs, this story kept me on the edge of my seat. I found it a little slow in the middle but the climax was utterly thrilling. Recommended for fans of psychological thrillers featuring married couples. Much thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my advance review copies!

Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple until Marissa cheats. Marissa wants to repair her marriage because she loves her husband and for the sake of their 8-year-old son. Marissa takes a chance on Avery Chambers, a maverick therapist, who lost her license due to controversial methods. Avery claims she can fix their marriage in 10 sessions. But Marissa keeps secrets hidden from Matthew and this will endanger their healing. This is a fast-paced psychological thriller with alternate POV's between Avery and Marissa. I enjoyed listening to the audio's narrators. The story delves into Avery's backstory and previous clients. The twists made it hard to figure things out and the ending was a complete surprise. I read and enjoyed three other of the authors books. I'm looking forward to reading their next one. I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ebook for an honest opinion.

I meant to read only ten minutes last night, but the story sucked me right in and I ended up reading for an hour. Then I finished it this afternoon. I really enjoyed this book.
I like domestic thrillers, and this was one of the better ones I’ve read. It contained suspense, mystery, and thrills. The story was told in alternating chapters from the points of view of the two main female characters. I became invested in both their stories equally. I loved the way everything came together at the end.
I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The Golden Couple by @greerhendricks and @sarahpekkanen

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

* Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for providing a digital copy of The Golden Couple in exchange of a honest review.

I love these kind of book where maybe anyone couple have done it. This one kept me guessing and speculating until the very end. I especially liked the rescue dog and the unconventional method of the "therapist".

I don't have anything else to says except that.. come on... that cover? I really liked the 2 previous books that I read from these authors and I am still wondering what's up with that one! ✨

Wow- Hendricks and Pekkanen did it again! I loved this book. They managed to make this domestic suspense-back and forth narrative so fresh and I'm so glad I got an early copy of this. You have the titular Golden Couple- Marissa and Mathew Bishop and the unconventional therapist, Avery, they hired to fix their relationship. Marissa has cheated on her husband and desperately regrets it- so she hires Avery after an article she read about her methods makes it sound like she can take on anything. The story is told from a back and forth perspective between Marissa and Avery. What I loved is that you never knew who to trust. They throw in a ton of characters that serve as red herrings but none of it felt forced. Great ending- this was straight up entertaining!

I received an ARC of this book. I just finished reading this book. All I can say is wow!!! Incredible suspense building with every chapter until the explosive conclusion. If you want to be sucked in and held captive by a story, you need to read this book!

Enthralling!! The suspense started on page one and never let up! And although I knew there was a big twist coming, it was tough to say exactly which character would turn out to be the dangerous one. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Hmm…let me start off by saying that I love these authors, loved their previous novel, and was so excited to get my hands on their latest endeavor! Maybe I hyped it up too much because this one just didn’t work for me. There were several simultaneous plot lines: a decades old murder of a best friend, a pharmaceutical company seeking revenge against a whistleblower, marital infidelity, and a potential stalker. Although the authors attempted to seamlessly weave these multiple scenarios together, to me the result felt muddled and forced. There were too many paths to follow that I ended up not really caring too much about any of them, inherently relieving me of feeling any suspense, something I desperately want to feel when reading a thriller. Nothing was overly gory or trigger-worthy so it may be a good choice for readers who like their thrillers without a side of disturbance. I appreciated the fast pace and excitement of the ending even if I thought it wrapped up a little too neatly. Overall, a fast read that would be particularly enjoyed by readers who like a tamer thriller.

Many thanks for NetGalley and St.Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
