Thanks to Netgalley for the ecopy for my Kindle.
I've read several of the author's books, but this one was my favorite. It's a suspense, mystery, and family saga and appeals to various readers. I especially liked the way the book ended. Great read!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I wasn't sure what was going on for the majority of the story, and I love when that happens because I am a lot less likely to predict the big twists. This time, I did figure out the major twist early on but there were still pieces I did not see coming, and felt that overall it was done very well. So even though I figured some of it out, I was eager to keep going and flew through this! The dual POV added an excellent element to this and made the story a lot more addictive. This almost felt like it could be the first in a series and honestly, I'd love that! A great domestic thriller that I think a lot of readers will enjoy, this is my favorite by the duo so far!

Avery is a therapist, or at least she was before she lost her license due to some controversial methods. She is known for her 10 session method where she helps her clients overcome their biggest setbacks. She is exclusive, but she's effective. Marissa brings her husband Matthew to see Avery after she makes a slip in their marriage. She is determined to make her marriage to Matthew work and hopes that he is willing to put things behind them and move forward. Avery takes them on but things don't seem to be as they once were. The golden couple seems to be hiding something and someone seems to be watching Avery... what is really going on?

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for the ARC of this one, I can't wait to recommend it to other readers!

As soon as I read the synopsis I knew I was hooked! Avery is a therapist unlike any other;📓 she lost her license doing what she believed was the right thing for her client. But now she feels confident she can fix someone in 10 sessions, and that’s her guarantee.🛋

Marissa and Matthew Bishop walk into her office and they say they need Avery to fix their marriage. Marissa was unfaithful, but she wants to move forward with her husband and their son.💍

The story is told from Avery and Marissa’s perspectives. Avery knows that the Bishops have secrets, which are slowlyyyy revealed. The pacing in this book was perfect; it made me want to keep flying through it. I love an unreliable narrator- it makes it impossible to figure out what’s going to happen, which is exactly what I want in a thriller!😮

📚This book comes out March 8, and if you enjoy thrillers I would definitely suggest checking it out!📚

I love the way these two authors put together a story, completely seamless!

This was a quick easy read that pulled me in immediately. The premise is fantastic, as are the characters. Well, the main ones at least, there are quite a few to keep track of (some with no relevance). I loved the contrast between the no nonsense, take charge Avery and the glossy, yet ethereal Marissa. With the exception of Bennett, all of the males are pretty crap.

There is a lot going on, with side stories, throughout this tale. Some really built up the story (Natalie and Chris) and others were a bit over the top and detracted (whistle blowing on big Pharma). There are multiple twists, some will be obvious to the seasoned thriller reader but not all. The conclusion probably should have been obvious but it wasn’t to me. I really enjoyed this and would recommend it. I will look forward to the next!

Thanks to NetGalley, the authors, and St. Martin’s Press for a copy in exchange for a review.

Rating ⭐⭐⭐

So I didn't love this one, but I liked it marginally better than The Wife Between Us, which I rated two stars. I just don't think this writing duo is going to work for me.

So Marissa and Mathew Bishop are this supposed golden couple, though I found them downright dull. We'll get to that though.

Marissa seeks out Avery Chambers, a therapist who has recently lost her license due to the unique method that she's developed for helping clients overcome whatever it is they come to her for.

Marissa confesses to a fling with a guy from the gym, something that naturally sets off her husband Mathew and she says she will do anything to gain back his trust. Mathew comes around to the idea of therapy, and Avery promises that she can fix them in ten sessions. In fact, that is Avery's promise to every client she accepts, and it seems her results are as good as she claims.

The problem is, of course, EVERYONE is lying.

At this point, that's not even a twist anymore. One who often reads thrillers have to expect that at least two major characters are lying.

Since that is basically an expectation at this point, the twists and turns weren't as twisty and turny as the authors were going for. I get how everyone is connected and it makes sense, though I can't say how without spoiling some things. I do try not to spoil brand new books, but sometimes it can't be helped.

So, here is one itty bitty spoiler that you should not read if you are going to read the book:

SPOILER START
I had a pretty good idea who the real villain was and it was immediately confirmed upon Bennett asking Marissa if he could only live with her if she and Mathew got divorced.

That's a pretty big tell. Kids know stuff even if they don't know what they know exactly, but they know when things are not right.
SPOILER END

Anyway, I said before, the Bishops are kind of boring. Except the reveal at the end, and someone is outed for being a psycho murderer...who would be a sociopath, given behaviors throughout the book...except can one be a murderous psychopath if they go thirty years between crimes? I don't know. Seems like kind of a stretch.

I liked he alternating perspectives because I wanted to know more about Avery's methods and what it was about her way of doing things that cost her her license. I found that to be really interesting.

I did not find HER side story interesting though, and it was distracting. Random Big Pharma stalking and other shenanigans because of one of her previous clients...it was kind of ridiculous and not necessary to the story.

There's also a lot of background missing. Skip, Marissa, and Mathew have known each other since they were teenagers, yet we don't get many glimpses of them together in the flashbacks provided. We see how Marissa and Mathew met, and get some backstory, but not a low. The friendship between Mathew and Skip needed to be explored and fleshed out much more than it was for me to care.

Overall it is not the worst way to spend a couple hours, but there are way better thrillers out there.

Having read all of Hendricks/Pekkanen's previous books, I had high expectations for this one and it did NOT disappoint. Full of twists and turns and unreliable characters, this one keeps you on your toes wondering who is telling the biggest lies and keeping the worst secrets. The conclusion was not a huge surprise (they were ALL suspects in my mind and I had an inkling) but still satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and devoured it within 24 hours.

I received ARCs of their other three books in the mail pre-pandemic - while I'm disappointed not to have a physical copy of this one I am ever so grateful to have received the egalley, so many thanks to you NetGalley and St Martins press for keeping the streak alive!

I loved this book! I am a sucker for domestic thrillers but paired with a couple going through therapy the drama, was irresistible. I loved everything about this book especially the shocker of a twist I didn't see coming AT ALL!

I luckily got my hands on an audio book copy of this and I think that greatly helped the experience. With every twist and turn and all the red herrings thrown my way I expected a very different outcome but loved the one, I got even more! I enjoyed the narrative and being inside Avery's head more than Marissa because she was just more direct and to the point. I find her therapy techniques fascinating and dare I say something I would personally sign up for.

This book was my first Henricks & Pekklanen duo book but I am excited to read more. I really enjoyed reading this and the ending is really the thing that put me at that 5-star push. The majority of the book felt 4 stars but I cannot get over that ending!

Is The Golden Couple really as perfect as they look? These two authors always write a great thriller. I flew through this audiobook and I thought the narrators were awesome. I connected to the characters and liked traveling down this twisty road with them.

The Golden Couple is everything you expect from a Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen novel.

A solid plot…..check
Questionable characters……check, check and a few more checks
Twists and turns…..YES!

Synopsis:
Avery Chambers is a therapist who recently lost her license. This does not stop people from seeking her help. She has a fantastic success rate and only takes on clients she know she can help in 10 sessions.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple on the surface but with Marissa’s infidelity and through the help of Avery, layers of secrets are revealed.

Marissa’s one time cheating event is nothing compared to what else has to be uncovered. Will this be a case that Avery is not able to fix?

Thoughts:
-There was so much going on in this novel that everyone seemed suspicious at one point.
-Loved finding out about all of the characters’ history.
-A page turning read that you will not want to put down.

If you are a fan of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen you will enjoy this book!

This intense domestic thriller disserves more than 5 stars! Avery Chambers is a therapist who lost her license but still sees patients and with the promise to solve problems in 10 sessions using unconventional methods. Marissa and Matthew Bishop come to her for therapy because Marissa is guilt ridden after a sexual encounter with another man. Avery has issues of her own after she anonymously reported a drug company for one of her clients and now has to look over her shoulder all time time. As Avery delves into Matthew and Marissa's life, she keeps coming up with lots of surprises. This was a fantastic read that grabbed me from the very beginning and kept me hooked until the very end.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this phenomenal read that kept me up late at night.

I needed a break from the more serious tomes I'd recently read and this fit the bill.

The setting: Avery Chambers, a rogue therapist [who has lost her license], has a novel approach to solving your problems--10 named sessions--starting with "The Confession." [followed by Disruption, Escalation, Revelation, Devastation, Confrontation, Exposure, the Test, Reconcilation, and Promises]. Marissa and Matthew Bishop are the eponymous Golden Couple. Marissa seeks Avery's services as she's hoping to repair her marriage after revealing she's cheated on Matthew.

Secrets and lies abound. Deceptions.

I admit I was sucked in from the start. There were flares, but I couldn't figure it out [thankful for that; but maybe you can/will! connect the dots]. And, was it too glib?

Avery has unorthodox methods; in fact, she spies on her clients. There are other characters with supporting roles. Polly is Marissa's assistant in her upscale boutique, Coco. Natalie is a parent at the BIshop's son's tony private school. Scott is a friend from the Bishops' past. And less so, Matthew's father, Chris. And a subplot with intrusions into Avery's life because of Acelia, a pharmaceutical company which she informed on [and why she lost her license--revealing a patient's privileged information]. Her adopted dog, Romeo also has a role--as well as a homeless man, Ray--a bit of everything.

The story alternates between chapters told by Marissa and Avery.

Twists, yes. But towards the end, I just wanted it--to end! I'd had enough.--especially as Matthew became unbelievable to me; it just didn't sit right. Also, does anyone see an older man as [only] a two-year difference? Not I. So for most of the book, a solid 4, but then at about 3/4 through, it spiraled down.

I received a complimentary advanced listener copy of THE GOLDEN COUPLE by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen for an honest review. Thank you to Libro FM and St. Martin’s Press for the chance to read and review! I also received a digital galley with thanks to Netgalley as well!

THE GOLDEN COUPLE follows Avery, a woman who has lost her license to practice, but still acts as a couple’s therapist. She has developed a less than conventional approach to counselling and is sure she can set your marriage to right in ten sessions.

Avery’s newest customers are Marissa and Mathew, the titular golden couple who seem to have it all. Problem is Marissa has cheated on her husband, something she’s about to admit in their first session in the hopes that Avery can help them get their marriage back on track.

I really think that this is a book where you don’t want to know too much. As is the case with Greer and Pekkan’s books in general, there are a lot of secrets and layers to the mystery as they throw you twist after twist. This book is a wild ride and I really loved that it managed to surprise me along the way! The characters aren’t always loveable (and are sometimes frustrating), but they absolutely kept me hooked to keep reading!

I really thought that the audio for this one was well done and highly recommend that you both add this to your TBR and pick up the audiobook! THE GOLDEN COUPLE is out on 3/8/2022!

Avery Chambers may have lost her therapist's license for her unusual practices, but her guarantee is that she can fix you in only 10 session. Avery has amazing success with all of her clients if they are honest and follow her unusual directions. When the Bishops come to seek therapy after the wife cheats, it is obvious that they are not in fact a golden couple. As Avery gets more involved in their relationship, dangerous secrets are revealed.

I'm a huge fan of the style of writing that Hendricks and Greer have - bouncing back and forth between narrators in each chapter. This is definitely an enjoyable read that is hard to put down. As you get more into the story, there are many twists they make it very fun.

WOW!

If I only had one word to describe this book, WOW would be my choice. The characterization was superb, and the story itself was like being on a roller coaster ride. I doubted just about every person in the books, except for Bennett, Matthew and Marissa's son. The story was woven together with incredible skill and enough red herrings that when I thought I figured it out, something else would happen to send my thoughts skittering off in another direction.
I am completely worn out by the mental gymnastics I've been through, and I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

The Golden Couple marks the return of that dynamic duo of suspense, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

Marissa and Matthew are the golden couple. They have looks, money, and a solid marriage.
Marissa finds her marriage in turmoil after she has an affair with a stranger. Avery Chambers is brought in to help put Marissa's marriage back on solid ground. Avery's methods exposes sides of Melissa and Matthew that neither knew about each other before. The more deeply that Avery gets involved; the chances increase that the golden couple will lose their luster.

Hendricks and Pekkanen's latest is the first thriller in recent years which I found totally unpredictable. There was more the one jaw dropping moment which is a rarity in today's thrillers. The main characters, Avery and Melissa successfully shift their POV in each chapter. Both characters are well-developed and avoid going over the top in their actions and emotions.

"The Golden Couple" is a 4k solid gold thriller.

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen first thriller since 2020's "You Are Not Alone." is worth the wait.

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are some of my favorite suspense authors, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. I devoured this book in less than 24 hours, it was so good. It’s an engaging, suspenseful, slow burn of a book with fantastic character and plot development. There are two mysteries intertwined throughout, which really captivates interest. Not knowing who is right or wrong in the marriage or who is keeping secrets is what makes the book the page turner that it is. Overall it’s a fun thriller that keeps you along the ride until the very end.

I’ve been a fan of this dynamic writing duo since their first masterpiece, The Wife Between Us. Hendricks and Pekkanen never let me down, and always manage to produce a solid thriller. I really enjoyed this domestic suspense centered around an unlicensed therapist, Avery, and her two clients, Marissa and Matthew, aka the golden couple. Avery’s methods are a touch unconventional, and perhaps a bit controversial, but she promises to fix the couple’s marriage issues in just ten sessions. But my gosh, who is to blame? The sketchiness from both sides was endless, and it made my head spin. Like always, my predictions were thrown out the window. Full of twists, turns, drama, and an unlikable character or two, the authors have mastered the art of domestic suspense once again. Grab a copy of The Golden Couple on March 8th!

The Golden Couple hooked me right away. I loved how all the stories were woven together and it all came together at the end. I am glad I didn't know too much about the book before I read the book, it made the story that much more enjoyable.

Marissa and Matthew are having marriage troubles and they find a therapist, that is no longer licensed due to her unconventional ways. All they have to do is tell the truth and complete ten sessions and their marriage will be saved. Sounds too good to be true, maybe it is. I loved all the twists and really enjoyed the characters.
