This is the second book I’ve read by them, and also the second 4 star. I figured out the ending about halfway through the book, but it didn’t take away from it. Dual perspective, DOG LOVER, Washington DC, rich people problems…what more could I want?
Not sure if I read the same novel that everyone else did, but this has to be Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's weakest novel - this coming from someone who has read every single one. They have very much been milking the domestic thriller cow for awhile now and I feel their creative taps are running dry. First off, it was a darn chore to read the first 30% of this book. I mean, it took me about a week to get off the ground with this book. I have narrowed down it all to the fact that these characters just weren't developed - or if they were they are the same BASIC ASS characters that are in every single domestic thriller ever written. Prim, elegant females. Over worked, business-type/lawyer husbands. Over priced Brownstones in a large East Coast city. Go to the library, go to the thriller section and pick a darn book and it might be a carbon copy of this one.
Maybe that's why I just couldn't with this book. Nothing makes it special, nothing makes it unique, and the writing is on-par with disposable airport reads. I didn't find it twisty at all and felt like there was no big reveal. In fact, the reveal happens in the last 2 chapters so all the questions get wrapped up in a very rushed and simplified way. Everything was too clean and too easy.
Anyways, this will be an interesting book to track as it is released next year and I'll be curious to see how others continue to review it. For me, it was a fat no, but as you can tell I'm in the minority.
Thanks to the authors and NetGalley for an ARC of this e-book in exchange for an honest review.
Writing duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have been a favorite since reading "The Wife Between Us" in 2018. Since then, I've picked up every subsequent book of theirs trying to chase that WBU high. Suffice to say, their newest "The Golden Couple" hits the mark entirely!
Keeping to what they do best, with switching POVs, a hint of past mixed with present, and the ever present therapist role, their thrills, chills, and suspense remain on high throughout this page turner.
Thank you Net Valley for the free ARC. This story kept me interested to the end, good psychological tale with plenty of twists and turns.
This story had so much going on with both POVs from the two main female characters.
Avery, the shunned therapist was branching out after losing her license in an unconventional way and also had to constantly watch her back due to going up against a major corporation.
Marissa was unfaithful in her marriage and sought out Avery’s help to try to mend the rift in her crumbling relationship. She was keeping secrets that were impacting her daily life but she didn’t end up being the one with the biggest betrayal of all.
I really liked both main heroines for vastly different reasons. They were both smart, capable and strong women but polar opposites. The side characters in this story kept multiplying and adding so much drama, twists and turns to the storyline. The Golden Couple had so many layers of chaos and deceit. I kept trying to formulate a theory and came up empty as the story progressed.
I was enthralled with this book until the very end. But the big reveal left me underwhelmed and more confused than anything. That’s why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed the suspense and anticipation but was let down by the ending that still doesn’t make sense to me.
Alternated between listening to an audio ARC from Libro.fm and reading the e-book ARC from NetGalley / St. Martin’s Press.
Another great thriller by @greeghendricks and @sarahpekkanen ! This book was insane! It was a cleverly written cat and mouse game that definitely kept me guessing.
A marriage on the rocks and a therapist who has issues of her own. Marissa’s confession could mean the end of her marriage to Matthew. But really, who did who wrong first? I didn’t know who to believe which made everyone the “bad guy”.
Need a book you can’t put down? Pick this one up! Pair it with the audiobook, so you don’t have to miss out while you’re on the go!

YOWZA! I’m guessing I have assigned less than (5) five star (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) reviews this past year but The Golden Couple is def one of them. The way the multiple points of intrigue tie together is mystifyingly fabulous. And believable! This is a book that begs to be read in one sitting. Focusing on a family, a therapist & those closest to them. All seemingly “perfect” …..with a few problems. I’ll say! If this is your genre & you think you might enjoy it then pick it up & you can thank me later😁
This is a story about the perfect couple.
So I did not hate this book, but I have thoughts (most of which are related to the fact that I’m a therapist so I won’t elaborate here as no one on goodreads is looking for a paragraph about professional responsibility). So without spoiling anything I’ll just say that I don’t understand the pull to create unnecessarily convoluted explanations for things that don’t require them and that was a prevalent theme here. I did enjoy the writing voice, and it was a quick relatively fun read!
Thank you so much @netgalley @librofm & @stmartinspress
"Therapists are not supposed to accept gifts from clients. But I am not one to follow the rules. I am also no longer a therapist; I lost my license five months ago"... and I was hooked. I loved this book. It was fun, well plotted, and I honestly didn't see the twist coming.
I was very excited to receive this book. The premise was engaging, but there was a lot going on. Waiting and waiting for that "wow" moment kept me going. It never happened, so that was a bit disappointing. Still enjoyed the ride.
Avery Chambers is an out-of-the-ordinary therapist who lost her license by using controversial tactics. Her claim is that within 10 sessions with her, your problems will be fixed. When Marrissa and Mathew Bishop come into her life as clients, things change. Marissa has cheated on her husband but brings him with her to see Avery try to fix their marriage. However, there are bigger secrets hidden behind all three people.
I had a good time reading this book. There were so many twists and turns with unreliable narrators. The book bounced between Avery and Marissa's POV. In the middle of the book, things did seem to be drawn out, however, the ending of the book picked up quickly to recover from that. Overall, a great quick read by two fantastic authors.
Thank you so much NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me early access to read in exchange for an honest review.

This is a solid 4.5-star thriller! I have loved some Greer Hendricks books and disliked others, but The Golden Couple falls squarely in the "love" category. This book has something for everyone. A marriage with secrets! A "single white female" angle! An adorable rescue dog! I will say I didn't completely buy the way the main plot point was resolved, but I also didn't see it coming, which is always good in a thriller. I definitely recommend picking this up when it's released.
A thrilling, non-stop twisting plot. "The Golden Couple" by Greer Hendricks is a wonderful novel. Excellent, current characters and fabulous build up. Thank you NetGalley, the authors and publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
This book was very enjoyable,. I am a big fan of the authors and have read all of their books. Spoiler alert---I knew the husband was not going to forgive the wife and was plotting revenge, but I was not sure how things were all going to come together in the end. Avery, the therapist, was an excellent character and I would enjoy a spin off using her with another patient for a sequel. PS I wanted more of Romeo, the pit bull!
When two authors write together, I’m always amazed at how seamless the writing is. This book is no exception. I had to keep reading to find out what happens next, and the ending had me shocked.
Marissa and Mathew Bishop have it all or so it seems. But we all know, no one really has it all. Marissa feels lonely. Matthew is a workaholic. Their eight year old son Bennett even knows something is off.
Avery Chambers is a formerly licensed therapist, She lost her license due to her creative (unethical) methods of treatment. She is undeterred by the loss of license and continues to take clients out of her home, including the Bishops. At the beginning, I wasn't sure I would like her but she is a very strong character and I found myself rooting for her in many ways throughout the book. She is more of a detective than a therapist throughout the book.
This story was a very fun read! There are a lot of eccentric characters which leads to a lot of misdirection and twists for the reader. Nothing is like it seems. Your opinions on most of the characters will most likely change.
The ending is satisfying and not entirely predictable. The authors were able to tie up many of the clues into an ending that makes you really think about if you are truly capable of knowing anyone.
Big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the digital reviewer copy in exchange for my honest opinion. The Golden Couple is a must read when it is published in March 2022!
The Golden Couple has been one of my most anticipated 2022 reads! Overall, I enjoyed this psychological thriller and loved the dual POVs. Both audiobook narrators really made the performances for each character very distinct. I was invested in the story from page one. There were quite a few twists and turns along the way which I appreciated and there were a couple of times where I wasn’t sure where the story was going. Avery’s perspective was my favorite and I liked her backstory. I was a bit let down about the ending, but it’s more about the journey in this book. Overall, I’d recommend picking this one up if you loved the duo’s previous work.
Another great domestic thriller by Hendricks and Pekkanen. The story is split between Marissa, a wife who owns her own boutique but is hiding secrets from her husband Matthew, and Avery, the unconventional therapist who Marissa brings herself and Matthew to see at the start of the book. Marissa is the typical kind of protagonist in these books, so I enjoyed Avery's perspective because she acted like a detective in trying to uncover what Marissa and Matthew were hiding beneath their public perception as "the golden couple."
I have read every book by Hendricks and Pekkanen, so I knew going into this book that I would probably enjoy it. Even with higher expectations, this book easily met them. There were many characters that the authors manage to give secrets and make suspects, and the book does a great job balancing them and keeping the tension high as both narrators discover truths about each other and the past. I was worried that the ending would be rushed or leave things unresolved, but the book neatly manages to give answers to all of the questions I had while also providing a thrilling finale. I was able to guess some of the twists, but the book has so many I did not have time while reading to see them all coming. Hendricks and Pekkanen remain some of the best authors working in the domestic thriller genre and The Golden Couple is another enjoyable and exciting addition to their works.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.
I liked the book enough to finish it. I wanted to put it down a little more than halfway thru, but I felt like I already read so much, I may as well finish it. I thought there was one too many characters and the twists and turns almost circled around each other. Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me.
OMG!! This duo really knows how to twist a story.
This book follows Marissa and Matthew as they attend marriage counseling. Marissa has stepped outside the marriage but still wants to make it work. They meet with Dr. Avery who runs a very strict 10 session counselling clinic. She's very unorthodox, but her sessions work.
This is one of those stories where you don't know who to trust, everyone is a suspect. They are all shady and terrible people. The book is well written and sucks you in from the first chapter.
These authors are always on point and it's always an enjoyable read.
