Avery Chambers is a psychologist who has decided to take a not so traditional approach to treating her clients. Unfortunately, she has lost her license. Since loosing her license, however, she is even in more demand.

Marissa and Matthew, the perfect couple have just begun counseling with Avery. The golden couple seem to have everything. A beautiful home, lots of money and a wonderful son, Bennett. Avery offers a ten-session program that she swears can fix any problem. Can she fix Marissa and Matthew's problem, or has she bitten off more than she can chew? So many twists and turns in this book and it kept me guessing until the very end!

Wow! This was worth it’s weight in “gold”, if you will pardon the pun. This writing duo is surprisingly talented in a field full of formulaic work. I’ve read a couple of their other books, which I’ve enjoyed, but this is one of the best.

Avery, an extremely flawed and unethical therapist, takes on a couple, Marissa and Matthew, using her new ten session “method” of counseling. If you call this therapy I guess I’ll open up my own office. However, Avery bites off more than she can chew in this couple along with her own problems, including the revocation of her license and the death of her husband.

Told in short chapters, flipping back and forth between Marissa and Avery, this was so readable. The last few pages, an Avery chapter, were the icing on the cake.

Thank you Net Galley for the ARC.

I did find this novel to be slow at some points, the first half was okay and then all the action was closer to the end.

overall enjoyed the novel

I really loved this book! This duo always delivers with their amazing writing style, and their new release one is no different!

I have been in a bit of a reading slump for a while, but this one brought me out of it. I read it in one sitting. I couldn't wait to find out what this couple was in for.

Definitely a 5 star read!

I’ve had my ups and downs with this writing duo and I have to say this fell middle of the road for me. The audio narration was great but I kept waiting for a brilliant twist and ultimately was letdown. Avery seems like she would be cunning and hiding something devious but as it turns out she’s not all bad. Skips part seemed a bit over the top and you do have to let go of reality for it all for enjoyment. Unfortunately I just wasn’t wowed.

They did it again! Loved this one from this writing pair. One of the things that stood out to me was that although I didn't particularly like any of the characters, it made them more believable. Lots of great twists and turns. Perfect read for autumn.

I read a lot of thrillers. Dating all the way back to my days in high school, I would spend way more time devouring the mass market paperback edition of whatever thriller was besting the NYT bestsellers list than the books I was supposed to be reading for school. All these years later, the genre continues to be one of my favorites. The only downside to reading as many thrillers as I do is that they've become a bit formulaic. It is rare for me to get to the end of one of these books without guessing the big twist. The books by writing duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have been some of the few exceptions. In fact, the way they built upon established formulas while completely subverting expectations in their novel The Wife Between Us cemented them as must-read authors in my yearly TBR list. Their new novel The Golden Couple was sent to me by their publisher, and I couldn't be more excited to read their latest effort.

Avery Chambers is a formerly licensed therapist who has newfound success after losing her initial career. You see, without being required to follow a prescribed method to treat her patients, Avery has been able to take a more unconventional approach. And it works! These days, she only takes on clients who she knows can be cured within 10 sessions. How does she do it? It's simple really. Avery obsesses over her clients, learning every aspect of their lives and relationships, even interjecting and setting up specific scenarios for them to live through. Like I said, unconventional but effective. After so many years of this kind of success, Avery feels pretty confident when her latest clients enter her office for their first session. Little does she know that she's about to meet her match.

On the surface, spouses Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem like a normal couple. For all appearances, their relationship seems strong, and the pair have made a loving home for their young son. There's no such thing as perfect, and the Bishops are about to prove the point. As they walk into Avery's office, Matthew is unsure of why they are at a therapist. Then Marissa drops the bomb. She's cheated on Matthew, and, for the sake of their marriage, wants Avery's help in patching things up. There's only one problem. The more Avery dissects the Bishop's marriage, the more confusing things become. Amongst the lies and infidelity rests something more sinister, the kind of secret that has the potential to destroy a marriage and the lives of anyone who comes close to it. What is the secret? You'll have to read to find out.

With The Golden Couple, authors Hendricks and Pekkanen take all the things that have made their previous novels so intriguing and ramped them up another notch. The story is told through shifting perspectives, giving the reader just enough breadcrumbs to follow into the next moment without giving too much away. The authors eschew the usual crimes or murders that typically drive the suspense in this genre in favor of even more electrifying personal relationships and character revelations. Things get a bit convoluted, but I didn't really care. I was so enamored by the actions of each of these characters that I couldn't stop reading. Even better, I didn't see the big ending coming. That's always a win in my book. If you're looking for the kind of book that shocks, surprises, and keeps you reading into all hours of the night, look no further. The Golden Couple proves once again that Hendricks and Pekkanen have got the goods.

What does the golden couple look like to you? Are they happy all the time, never seem to have any troubles, perfect children, all of the above? And what's a great therapist accomplish for you, especially a therapist that has lost her license for practicing in unorthodox ways but deeply believes her 10 step program is the program to fix most couples' issues? Meet Marissa and Matthew, our golden couple and their therapist, Avery. Avery was recommended to Marissa by a friend when Marissa reveals she needs to confess and work on her marriage. After Matthew agrees to go to therapy and finds Marissa cheated on him, the struggle begins. Through each stage of the process, new twists and turns abound. And we find out more about each of our characters leading to a suspenseful storyline in which readers will find themselves guessing as to what the next surprise around the corner will be, and ultimately how it all will end. In typical fashion, our author team of Greer Hendrcks and Sarah Pekkanen are sure not to disappoint. If this is your first novel by this team, you will surely want to read everything else this brilliant set of authors has written!

Oooh! Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have written another top-notch twisty thriller! The Golden Couple audiobook was narrated by Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland and they executed it in a tremendous way.

I was a little skeptical about this book. I wasn’t sure how the book was going to be completed. And I have to say that I was thoroughly surprised and shocked by the twist at the ending of the book. I feel like it was a slight slow burn to the climax of the story, but I’m glad it was because that twist I did not see coming and those are the best books

I know anytime I see a book by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, its going to be a good book.
Their books are always a fast read, but its because you have to finish the book! Their stories are fully of suspense and keep you on the edge of your seat. I have loved all of their books and this one is no different.
The story is told from both Marissa (who has recently confessed to a one night stand ) and Avery (the therapist Marissa and her husband Matt). There are some great secondary characters also just as Polly (Marissa's assistant at her shop) Natalie (a fellow mom who Marissa believes to have a crush on Matt), amoung others. There are many storylines that go on here, but they are easy to follow and also all tied together at the end.

I will say, I thought I had the twist figured out. But once again, I was wrong!

Fast pace (Finished it in one sitting)

They did it again! What a brilliant read. 5/5, without a doubt! The book had many different levels that come together in the most perfect, juicy, heart racing way possible! Don’t assume anything is the only tip I want to give you, because you’re going to be in for a surprising treat. Very well done, enjoyed every single page!

BOOK REVIEW- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts: Thank you to @netgalley, @sarahpekkanen, @greerhendricks, and @macmillanusa for this E-arc in exchange for an honest review. First off, I love this author duo! I have never been disappointed by one of their books and this one was just as good as all the rest! I don't want to give to much away but I loved following the multiple POVs of Marissa (the client) and Avery (the therapist)! The twists and turns had me needing to turn the pages quickly so I could figure out what the hell was going on! The final twist fell into line (without being predictable) perfectly and tied up all the lose ends. You can preorder this one now or pick it up on 3/8/2022! ✨

OMG!! I love Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkaken's work and this one...this one is just another reason to love this author duo.
What I loved: Just how tangled and bizarre the story got just before everything fell into place.
What I didn't love: Some things fell into place a little too easily, but certainly not enough to ruin this one.
Why you should read it: Avery is an unconventional therapist (well, not technically a therapist anymore) with some secrets. Matthew and Marissa's marriage is in trouble and Marissa hires Avery to help them work through it and save their marriage. But not everything (or everyone) is as they seem. Everyone, EVERYONE, is hiding something...some more than others.
This one will keep you guessing right up until the end. You won't want to put down the fast-paced pageturner!

Greer Hendrick and Sarah Pekkanen have written another thriller. This time it is set in Pekkanen's native Maryland suburbs of DC, and its fun to recognize familiar landmarks.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple - until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their 8-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this unconventional therapist, who lost her license due to controversial methods. She claims she can solve any issue in 10 sessions.

The authors keep you guessing up until the very end. A quick, escapist read. I do believe this is my favorite of the books they have written together.

An interesting read - neither life-altering or can’t-put-downable… might follow the author for backlist & future reads.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.

If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal—she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault—and almost absorb the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple—until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their 8-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist, who lost her license due to controversial methods.

When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.

I really enjoyed this book! I was fully invested in Matthew and Marissa’s marriage and I wanted to find out the truth. It was twisty and I liked the multiple point of views. If you want a domestic thriller that will keep you guessing- this is it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
