Books with twists & books with therapists are usually my jam. This one was a bit more anticlimactic than I had wished. It was still good, just a lot more set up than I anticipated.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub day: March 8

The Golden couple captivated me from the start and if possible got even better as it went. It was suspenseful with several twist. I thought I had it figured out and I was yet surprised again! I throughly enjoyed this wonderful book and will definitely be looking up to see what other works are out there.

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are a powerhouse duo, delivering twisty, intimate relationship-driven thrillers typically focusing on therapy, manipulation, infidelity, and marriages. The Golden Couple is set up to be just like their other hits, but unfortunately, it fell a bit flat for me. Avery Chambers is a "maverick therapist," a practitioner who has a patented 10-session method guaranteed to fix any presenting problems her clients come in with, using traditional and non-traditional therapeutic methods. When Marissa and Matthew Bishop, a beautiful, wealthy, "golden couple" come in with the presenting problem of Marissa's one-time infidelity to Matthew, Avery is ready to repair their marriage. But Avery soon learns that Marissa and Matthew are in quite a complicated web of personalities and problems that throw a wrench in Avery's perfect 10-step plan.

We meet many, many fishy characters surrounding both the Bishops and Avery: Polly, Marissa's overbearing assistant who is maybe a little too obsessed with Marissa; Natalie, Matthew's old girlfriend and someone Marissa feels is still in love with Matthew; and Skip, a mysterious flame from Avery's past who seems to have something else up his sleeve.

This book has all the ingredients for a great thriller, and I thought the writing as you dive deeper and deeper into the couple's web of lies keeps you engaged the whole way through. But as with so many thrillers, it's the last 10-15% that really make or break the book, and the ending didn't quite deliver for me. Another nit that I have is that as the authors start to get into the rising action climbing towards the inevitable twist, there are way too many red herrings - I do appreciate some well-placed feints to get you moving in a different direction (for example, I think The Maidens does this really well) - but the effect of the red herrings in this book is just confusing. It felt like the plot was branching out into all these directions with no hint as to where the narrative would end up going.

Lastly, by the time we got to the end, I didn't feel as invested in these characters or their resolution as I was expecting, or even as invested as I felt in the beginning of the book. Perhaps it's because the characters (particularly Marissa) shoot themselves in the foot so many times that they become less sympathetic.

Overall, the set-up of the book seems like it would deliver a great twisty thriller, but the delivery didn't work out as well as I hoped. Thank you to Macmillan Audio and St. Martin's Press for an ARC and audio ARC via Netgalley!

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen was a real page turner! The story told from two points of view kept me guessing how they were going to tie up all the loose ends. It was a well thought out and tied together plot that hasn't been happening in many of the new thrillers I've read lately. It flowed and was a quick read since I didn't want to put it down! This story was very plausible in how they created the story line to make you wonder which of the characters was connected and how they were tied together. I'd definitely recommend this book to those out there struggling to find a decent thriller that doesn't end abruptly or using supernatural (eye-roll) to get out of the plot twists that were created. Well done!

This book had me on edge… I literally felt caught up as if I were in the book. I caught the twist right before it was revealed and I thought it was pretty good.

This one totally fell flat for me, I didn't connect. I was curious because a friend loves this author duo. The twists and the characters were there, it was the plot that was lacking for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

4+ stars

Well done thriller. Avery is a former therapist who lost her license and is now a consultant. She has unorthodox methods. Matthew and Marissa come to Avery for couples therapy after Marissa cheats. Tightly written there is a lot going on and several subtle twists.

I had both the digital book and audio book. I preferred the audio book with excellent narration by Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland.

I have read all of Greer Hendricks' and Sarah Pekkanen's books and have enjoyed them all. This one was no exception. It was a fun read all the way through and kept my attention. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

As soon as I saw this book, I dropped everything and dove right in! Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen books are generally psychological/domestic thrillers and this one is no exception! You can expect unreliable narrators and many twists in this one!

The story is told between the two main characters' POVs; the therapist that lost her license, Avery and Marissa, the new client. As usual, I loved the dual storylines, it really upped the suspense and really piqued my interest!

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are so good at developing intricate webs of deception, I didn’t see anything coming.

I remain a huge fan and highly recommend picking up this book in March 2022!

Seriously. BEST. PSYCH.THRILLER of the year!! Hands down. I devoured this in one day. I actually loved all of these characters despite their faults and misgivings (even Poppy). I could not stop reading as they were on a collision course that would unravel all of the secrets. I will be shouting this book from the rooftops both NOW and in March. Bravo, ladies. This was fantastic.

LIke other Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen books, I enjoyed this one. It was fun and kept me guessing. They are easy books to read, and this was one was exception. I read it in a few days and found myself wanting to keep reading well into the night (a great sign). While I think there are a few parts that could use a little editing (it was a little long in a some areas and not enough detail in others), I think its a sold addition to their writing partnership and I would recommend it to a friend.

Greer Hendricks is a master at writing thrillers that keep you spellbound, and "The Golden Couple" was no exception! Avery Chambers is a therapist notorious for her unconventional and sometimes inappropriate methods. When married couple Matthew and Marissa Bishop enters her office, she has no idea what's about to come her way. Marissa is distraught and filled with shame over her one night stand with another man and is desperate to get her husband back. Matthew appears to be the perfect man who is struggling to forgive his wife. Peripheral characters Polly, Chris, and Skip help flesh out the characters and provide context, while also leaving the reader wondering who the "bad guy" actually is.

I couldn't put this book down, and the twists and turns were very unexpected! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Excellent. If the goal of a mystery-suspense novel is to keep you guessing almost till the bitter end, this one definitely delivered. While many readers, myself included might be tempted to say they "saw it coming", I think it's fair to say, the guessing who didn't mean you had any idea why. And that's what makes a psychological suspense great as opposed to simply 'good'--you need to maintain curiosity until the very last page.

I think this writing duo has managed to figure out the secret sauce to successful writing collaborations, because I've liked everything they've done together. The two separate POVs by two very different female protagonists is a genius way to deal with the issue of two distinct voices. It worked exceptionally well here.

So, the set up is this: a outwardly perfect couple-Matthew and Marissa Bishop-present themselves in the office of a maverick marriage counselor, because one of them has had an affair. The counselor has a daring promise to her clients--10 sessions and she will fix whatever ails you. The Bishops however, have problems a lot more multi-layered and complex than they appear to, as does Avery Chambers, the counselor, and the key to the Bishops' problem just might also unlock a solution for Avery as well.

This is one to read when you're in the mood for something fast-paced and twisty without being ridiculous. I listened to the advance audiobook from NetGalley, and liked the narrators a lot. The voice for Avery was perfect, conveying in tone and tenor that she is a no-nonsense, independent and capable woman. Marissa's voice actress was good as well, but her voice had a somewhat brittle quality that grated at times. Still, there was something fragile about the character, to perhaps brittle was called for.

Recommended if you like psychological and domestic suspense, and women's fiction. This had strong elements of those genres, well-blended.

They look like they have it all, and that their life is the definition of perfect. They are glossy and polished and.... it's worse than you thought. It's not just therapy they need, they need Avery's 10 session guarantee.

Avery, the therapist who lost her licence for her unorthodox practices, gives me 'Nine Perfect Stranger' by Laine Moriarty vibes, with all of the compliments that implies.

Hendricks and Pekkanen have created a witty and engaging tale full of intrigue and depth - they take you to places that make you question your own choices, and having you rooting for the unlikeliest of heros.

Worth a read,

Huge thanks to @stmartinspress .

This is another book I absolutely loved. I will definitely buy this one when it releases in March.

I love this author duo so much. They really know how to throw in the twists.

This one was more of a slow burn, but it was so worth it. Part three was 😱.

Marissa and Matthew are The Golden Couple. They seem to have it all until Marissa sleeps with someone else. They begin therapy with Avery who has her own sets of problems.

As the story unravels you are trying to figure out how everything is connected or is it?

The Golden Couple and The Wife Between Us are my favorites by them. You will love this one too!

I have been a huge fan of this writing duo since picking up a copy of The Wife Between Us. It became a favorite and I’ve read their other books and enjoyed them. I have to say this may be my new favorite. Easily a 5 ⭐️ and would definitely recommend adding to your TBR.

Mixed feelings about this book.

I liked the plot, liked the characters especially Avery and I seriously enjoyed the ending. My interest was piqued in the beginning but despite the fast pace of the plot I found myself bored simply due to the fact there was way too much going on - lacking cohesion along with far too many secondary characters feeling more like it was taking up space as opposed to really adding to the story. Clever story all in all, just wished there wasn’t so many here there and everywhere red herrings it became mundane and rather frustrating. A story worth reading so you can reach your own conclusion.

Several twisted plots happening in this psychological mystery. Everyone has secrets, lies of omission, misdirection and some red herrings all kept me guessing till the end. These are authors I have not read before. The chapters alternate between characters Marissa and Avery.
Avery Chambers is an unconventional therapist who lost her license by following her morals not the ethics required by her profession. The ramifications of that decision involves big pharma and they don't play nice. Acelia works for them and she is an ever present threat to Avery.
Marissa and Matthew Bishop are Avery's new clients. Marissa made the appointment for support as she discloses an impropriety to her husband. All outward appearances of this couple make them seem perfect. They have good jobs, nice house, a loving young son, just the perfect life. No such thing!
Avery's method of resolving conflict involves ten unique steps. She uses some extreme snooping and clandestine tailing to find what her clients hide, all too resolve their issues.
There are good, well developed supporting characters, any one of whom could be behind the ongoing threatening notes, break-ins, etc. Polly, who works for Marissa at her boutique, is sneaky and too helpful. Matthew's best friend, Skip, has been there since they were all teens. Skip has baggage and secrets of his own. Matthew's estranged father, Chris, lurks around and seems to have an agenda.
Avery is a widow, not looking for anyone permanent but, still enjoys an occasional hookup. Some of these men also have secrets and their own motives.
It was one of those books I couldn't put down, just one more page, maybe another chapter. The mystery of how or if the Bishop's marriage would survive kept me reading at breakneck speed. I definitely enjoyed the plot and characters.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, and St. Martin's Press for the advance digital copy of "The Golden Couple". These are my personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily.

I received The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen though @netgalley and @librofm . I anticipated reading it closer to the release date and then I just couldn’t wait anymore. In their newest book we follow Avery who used to be a licensed therapist, but now does things a little bit differently since she lost her license. She treats people in ten sessions. In walks in Marissa and Matthew seeking her help. This couple is like nothing Avery has ever had to deal with before.

❤️Review❤️

I love this author duo. I find it so fun how they probably each take their own perspective, but can merge it in such a seem less way that you’d never guess there were two authors. It starts off feeling like a classic psychological/domestic thriller and by the end takes those drastic turns you know and love. I was questioning everything I knew and all of the people we had met along the way. The ending was completely satisfying and I didn’t see it coming. It caught me completely off guard, which is always appreciated. I definitely recommend you listen to the audiobook if you have the opportunity to! This is a book you don’t want to miss out on in March!
