Unpopular opinion alert! This one disappointed me. (Which is a huge shock to me because An Anonymous Girl still reigns as one of my favorite most memorable reads.) I just wasn't juicy enough for me. Again, unpopular opinion because other reviews thought the twists and turns were delicious. I mean, I followed the twists. And they were definitely unexpected. But I guess I just wasn't quite interested enough in Marissa and Matthew. They were kinda bland to me. Now, Avery? I was all in with Avery. What I really would have like was a book about Avery and her other clients...Finley, Skylar. Those clients were interesting and juicy to me. But Marissa and Matthew weren't golden....they were so vanilla.
As usual the writing was beautifully done. The mystery was a fantastic build. The ending twist was a great shock. Not at all what I expected. I just really didn't care about M&M as a couple so I didn't really care about how it turned out in the end.
But these two authors, I will go back to again and again. For sure. They always keep me guessing.

Marissa and Matthew are the perfect couple! High school sweethearts, beautiful son, gorgeous home, lucrative jobs…they seem to have everything. Until, Marissa makes a confession of infidelity to Matthew in the presence of their therapist, Avery.

Avery is a therapist who previously lost her license due to her questionable methods. She has an unusual 10 session plan for her clients. As she works with Marissa and Matthew to save their marriage she realizes that someone is hiding a secret, but she is not sure who.

Told in alternating viewpoints between Marissa and Avery, a tale of twisted deception gradually unfolds and leads to a staggering conclusion!

My thoughts: This story had me enthralled from the beginning! It is a slow burn which starts out as domestic suspense but soon moves to thriller status as secrets gradually unfold. I did not predict the startling ending! Read this is you love twisty psychological thrillers!

My thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review!

Dang! 🤯 I feel like I can’t say much because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have done it again. This one was goooood 👏 I felt like I was going around in circles the whole time and I loved it. The plot was wound so cleverly and perfectly. I definitely recommend it!

What happens when you cheat on your husband and your only hope of saving your marrigage is a rouge therapist? This was a twisty thriller told from multiple points of view. The characters were likeable and sympathetic and the ending was a true surprise. I find I like anything that the Hendricks/Pekkanen team writes. Definatley recommended.

That was a great thriller. So many connections between all the players is was a great challenge to try to figure out how they all fit together. There was a twist near the end that I didn't see coming as some of those connections nicely obscured the truth.

This book was a well-written thrill ride with captivating characters, a brilliant plot, and a whopper of an ending. So many twists and misdirection throughout to make readers think the person to mistrust is someone else. I couldn't stop reading it and I really loved the way it ended. These two know how to write a thriller that will keep you reading and wondering until the final page.

4.5 ⭐️

I love to be fooled!
And, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have somehow managed to fool me again!

Avery Chambers was a therapist who lost her license because of her controversial methods. She now calls herself a “consultant” and she guarantees that she can fix your issue in 10 sessions. Her method is predicated on amplifying core universal emotions such as fear and anger, or sadness and happiness. Each session has a specific title, and follows a specific order-beginning with session one-“THE CONFESSION”.

Her method is definitely UNORTHODOX, but it works.

Marissa and Matthew Bishop are her newest clients. Marissa confesses to infidelity, but that secret was just the tip of the iceberg!

I never knew WHO could be trusted, or WHO was manipulating WHO, and I loved it! I couldn’t wait to pick this up every chance that I could.

The story unfolds through the alternating perspectives of Avery and Marissa, both smart, successful women, but all of the characters in the book, are well developed, and play a role in the outcome.

The difference is in the details. Conversations are realistic, and scenes of daily life are vividly portrayed-so even though some creative license may be used, especially for Avery and her methods, I was able to just go with it, and enjoy!

This one ranks right up there with “The Wife Between Us” for me. If you enjoyed that one, you won’t want to miss this one!

Thank You to St. Martin’s Press for the gifted copy provided through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to provide a candid review!

Secrets have a way of seeping out. So many twists and turns and then the unexpected happens. What a great psychological thriller that is so unlike anything you’ve read before.

Avery is an unlicensed therapist, having gone rogue, with a unique approach to fix people in just 10 sessions. She meets Marissa and Matthew Bishop, whom to an outsider would appear as a Golden couple and Instagram worthy. But that’s just a social platform snapshot that doesn’t give the whole picture. Marissa admits infidelity and their marriage is in trouble. She appeals to Avery for help to reconnect with her husband whom she loves. But Marissa and Matthew have hidden secrets as does Avery that threatens to jeopardize any type of reconciliation and repair. It’s a journey to uncover the truth and developing trust that tells the story as Avery digs deep and immerses herself into the private lives of the Bishops. What seemed on the surface as a marriage in danger becomes much more than that. Suspense rises for this couple and their therapist as they begin to doubt what they think they know and begin to look over their shoulders.

With multiple points of view and many stories being told and interwoven, this book kept me engaged and reading on. Delighted and surprised at the multiple plot twists, I could not put this down until the end. I love how strong the character of Avery is and how the author makes you rethink what you know about each character. I predict that this will be a much anticipated novel for 2022 and on everyone’s TBR list.

Many thanks to #netgalley, #St.Martinspress, #greerhendricksandsrahpekkanen for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Don’t let the page count of The Golden Couple scare you off…..A psychological thriller. Greer Hendricks/Sarah Pekkanen have done it again. You’re going to fly through this well written, fast paced page turner. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, there’s another ‘I didn’t see that coming’ twist. I couldn’t put it down.
Thank You to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks; Sarah Pekkanen was a high quality mystery with a dose of thrill! This book was not a on the ‘edge of my seat’ thriller but it was a complex story that escalated and came to a wild end. I absolutely loved the main character, Avery. She was dynamic, bad ass, and strong. I loved how the book relayed her thoughts. If you’re a fan of domestic thrillers, check this one out!

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks; Sarah Pekkanen

Blond, fit, wealthy, successful, Marissa and Mathew Bishop have it all. Or is seems so on the outside, looking in. But Marissa is lonely and abandoned in this marriage and even the eight year old son of Marissa and Mathew knows things aren't right. He says he doesn't want to be with his dad if his parents get divorced, which horrifies Marissa. Their son shouldn't know the marriage is troubled but he does.

Avery Chambers has lost her license due to her creative, way outside of the lines and unethical practices. But she doesn't care, she's going to do things she thinks need to be done, in the way that gets the results she is looking for. Now she works out of her home, with her rescue dog, Romeo, as her constant companion. Avery cares about animals and people and she's good at reading both. But she's having doubts about her eccentric ten step program working with her new clients, Marissa and Mathew. Unless they are honest with her, she can't help them and these people are hiding a lot of secrets.

This story was so much fun. Lots of twists, turns, and red herrings. Just when you think someone is a good person, something happens to make you question that opinion. At the very beginning of the story, I didn't think I was going to like Avery but it didn't take me long to see that I liked her a lot, unethical behavior or not. Actually, I ended up liking a lot of the characters despite their imperfections. This was a very satisfying story and I enjoyed the way it was laid out for us.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of The Golden Couple by the writing duo of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. What a treat to not have to wait until publishing day as this was another one of my most anticipated reads for 2022.
We follow Avery an unconventional therapist in her counselling of patients. Her latest couple seem to have it all, but we all have secrets don’t we!?! There were a few too many diverging storylines for me personally, but the authors brought them all together.

When Hendricks and Pekkanen write together, I know the book will be a winner. This one did not disappoint. On the surface, Marissa and Matthew seem to be the perfect golden couple. During their first appointment with unconventional therapist their picture-perfect facade starts to fall away.

The characters are intriguing and the plot sucks you in quickly. This book kept me on my toes. I love when books have side stories and this one does it really well.

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

This is the fourth I've read from this duo and was so excited to get an advanced copy and jumped at the chance to read it early! The Wife Between Us is still my favorite by them but this is a close second.
Avery is a therapist that lost her license months ago due to her unconventional and controversial methods, but she is still practicing as a consultant. She has a unique 10 session package that has very successful results. Her newest clients, Marissa and Matthew seem like the golden couple until their secrets start to be exposed. I found this to be slightly predictable but this was a fun one to unpack.
Told in multiple POVs from the couple and therapist. Had to figure out these questionable side characters, red herrings, and figuring out the truth. This does read a little slower to start and almost feels more contemporary fiction than thriller at times.

Thank you to @stmartinspress and @librofm for my gifted ALC! This book publishes March 8!

Could this be Hendricks and Pekkanen's best book yet?

I enjoyed the Golden Couple more than An Anonymous Girl and You Are Not Alone. As you might expect from the title, in focus is the Bishops' seemingly perfect marriage. But that's only how it appears to outsiders, so they seek help from former therapist Avery Chambers who promises to fix your issues in 10 sessions using her unique methods.

Perspective trades between Marissa Bishop (the wife) and Avery, which I thought was cool -- I liked hearing from Avery more so than I think I'd have enjoyed husband Mathew's point of view; her perspective goes a long way to fleshing out the novel.

I'd recommend this one for those who enjoy mysteries featuring complicated marriages. I didn't find it thrilling (think more psychological suspense), but it was a great companion for a long day of travel.

Hendricks and Pekkanen and definitely the dynamic duo! Their newest book is a captivating mystery that keeps the reader second guessing from start to finish. Marissa and Matthew Bishop are the Golden Couple. Together with their son, Bennett, they live a seemingly perfect life. That is until Marissa makes a total error in judgement and can’t live with herself afterwards. With the help of an unlicensed therapist, Avery, she hopes her marriage and all that she holds dear can be saved. If anyone can help them Avery can with her 10 step session guarantee ... BUT ... is Marissa being completely truthful even now? With a side story of an unscrupulous Big Pharma company that Avery’s involved in and several red herrings along the way, this is a book you won’t want to put down for long!

I truly enjoyed 'An Anonymous Girl' but to be honest did not love 'The Wife Between Us', I wasn't sure what to expect from Hendricks and Pekkanen with their latest 'The Golden Couple' what they delivered was fantastic! A mystery thriller with great plot twists.

The story is told from two perspectives: client and therapist. The therapist who has gone rogue – lost her licence. She continues to practice and promises to fix you in 10 sessions! This is a fun read, with well-developed characters.

This is one of the most anticipated thrillers to be released in 2022, I am thrilled I got an advanced copy from #netgalley in exchange for an honest review

This book blew me away, as expected! I am a huge fan of these authors writing styles. I could not put this one down, the twists and turns just hit me from every which way. I wish this could be made into a 10 part series based on the 10 appointments.

Each of the characters had so many secrets, it was fun to see where it would all blow up. Having the reader read from each of the points of view just adds to the level of intrigue.

The premise of this book was just perfection. It was so unique, these authors really know what they are doing. This has to be the best author duo in the thriller category that I have ever read.
