The golden couple might seem that way from their facade but inside, they’re dealing with marriage issues including infidelity. But don’t think it’s just a simple cheating plot though. The ending blew me away!
I am a fan of both authors and was excited to read their latest novel. It did not disappoint! The story had lots of twists and turns, and not knowing what to expect kept my attention from start to finish! Definitely a must read!
The Hendricks & Pekkanen duo are one of the only 'authors' I have an always-read-immediately policy with. I love how their books are female driven, with smart women as the leads who make decisions that are realistic to their characters.
This book was so lovely as it slowly unraveled secret after secret. What I love about their thrillers is that I may see some aspects of the ending as possibilities before they fully unravel, but I'm never sure until the very end of which possible course of events is real.
The tension in this is so strong that I read most of it in one day. This dynamic duo has, once again, knocked it out of the park.
Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen make a great, thriller-writing duo. I enjoyed this one a lot! That said, I found one of the side-plots (having to do with Avery) a bit unbelievable and not entirely necessary. That said, I hadn't really pieced together what was going on until a few chapters before the reveal. The shifting perspectives and boundary-breaking "therapist" made for a fun domestic read. No one can be trusted...
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for my advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review. Keep your eyes out for this book, expected pub date: 3/8/22
The dynamic authors are back with yet another book that will grab you on the first page and take you on a suspense filled ride filled with every conceivable twist and turn imaginable until the very end. Avery is a rogue psychologist who has lost her license, but has designed a ten session therapy program that will guarantee to fix problems. Marissa has cheated on her husband and has suggested that they try and fix their marital issues by seeking counseling with Avery for the sake of their young son since she cheated on her husband. Marissa’s husband is open to the idea of counseling and following the assignments. Hold on tight to your seat as the story unfolds!!
If Avery Chambers can't fix you in 10 sessions, she won't take you on as a client. A previously licensed therapist plays fast and loose during 10 sessions with each of her clients, who deal with everything from marital problems to abuse. Her unconventional ways has produced outstanding results thus far, but to what lengths will she go to ensure her patients attain her definition of successfully cured?
Marissa and Mathew Bishop are Avery's newest clients; Playing the role of perfect couple while in public is one thing, but, as we'll soon find out, not everything is as it seems.
The Golden Couple is the best kind of suspense novel. Twists and turns that you'll never see coming, with everyone slowly revealing themselves as a target readers will be left on the edge of their seats until the very end. With characters that the reader will care about from the beginning and a carefully constructed puzzle that becomes more shocking with each turn of the page, The Golden Couple is sure to be an instant favorite, the newest must read for fans of psychological thrillers as well as who-dun-it novels.
Highly recommended.
Thank you to netgalley and publishers for providing an advance e-copy for me to read and share my honest opinion with all of you. I am thrilled to have come across this book and cannot wait until I can pick up a copy for my shelves.
My favorite type of thriller is a psychological thriller. Extra points for the level of uncomfortable-ness (not a word, but i'll allow it here) that it makes me feel. Reading these types of books really keeps you on your toes and causes my anxiety level to skyrocket... but thats why I enjoy reading them so much! Today, I am reviewing a book that I think will be a huge 2022 hit!

Before I get into this review, I want to thank St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for sending me this advanced copy of this one. As always, all views expressed are my own.
"The Golden Couple" is a dual POV mystery/thriller which follows therapist Avery Chambers and married couple Matthew and Marissa Bishop.
Avery is a therapist who has earned herself quite the reputation. If Avery cannot 'fix you' in 10 sessions, she won't take you on as a client. She helps her clients overcome all of life's toughest challenges----phobias, domineering parents, and overbearing or abusive partners. Sure her methods are a bit unorthodox, which has lead to the loss of her practicing license, but they are certainly effective.
From the outside, Matthew and Marissa Bishop seem like a couple who have everything-----they are the golden couple. That is, until it is revealed that Marissa has cheated on her husband. Marissa wants to repair their relationship for, both, the sake of their 8-year-old son and because she loves her husband. After stumbling across an ad for Avery Chambers in the newspaper, Marissa decides to give the controversial therapist a chance. When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.
I gave "The Golden Couple" 4.75 stars on Goodreads. I wanted to give this one 5 stars SO BAD because it was honestly one of my favorite books that I have read so far this year. I decided on 4.75 stars simply because I was able to easily identify who was behind all of the madness and shenanigans before it was revealed to me. I didn't want to deduct too much, though, because I don't think my ability to figure it out altered my enjoyment of the book at all. Sometimes I think that the main reason that I can figure out twists in certain books is because I read so many mysteries and thrillers. If you don't read as many mysteries or thrillers, the twist may surprise you more! In addition to the main twist, there are a few other plot points and storylines that you will get wrapped up in as well.
Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen were featured in my auto-buy authors post. You can check that one out here, if you haven't already! These two are masters of suspense. Their thrillers maintain my interest from beginning to end. Most of their thrillers are a bit of a slow-burn and are incredibly character-driven-----just how I like 'em! If you enjoy reading thrillers, I would point you towards this powerhouse writing duo.
The writing style of this book was great. I enjoyed that the chapters were presented in dual point of views. The story would not be the same if it was written from the perspective of only one of the women. With that being said, Marissa's chapters (and her character, overall) was much stronger than Avery's. While both characters were enjoyable and added to the story, I think Marissa's engaged me a bit more than Avery's. I was more invested in Matthew and Marissa's storyline.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Sign me up for everything that these two write in the future! This is a book that I highly recommend you keep on your radar for next year; I loved it and I think you will too!
I loved this book. The characters were engaging and the plot kept you guessing! I highly recommend this thrill of a ride book!!!
A married couple begins sessions with a former therapist who lost her license due to her unorthodox - and illegal - methods. Readers get the story from multiple perspectives in this super-slow-burning tale of psychological suspense.
I requested to read and review this book for free from St. Martin Publishing Company. This book has many feeling betrayal, romance, sympathy, anger. If you think you have an idea how this book is going to end your are wrong. This book will keep you guessing until the very last page. Characters Marissa, Avery and Chris have an idea of how they want the end game to be. But each is different. Can you truly love someone or forgive them. Is there a betrayal to big. Can you truly know someone. This book is for a mature reader and can be read anywhere.
Marissa (psychopath?) is married to Matthew (psychopath?) and they live very comfortably in a DC suburb in Maryland. They have a son who goes to a top notch private school, she owns an upscale boutique and he has a job at a firm that affords them this lifestyle. What could go wrong? Well, Marissa cheats on Matthew, then finds a therapist (Psychopath?) who lost her license and has an unethical, unlicensed practice to help them get through it. Wouldn't everyone do that? Add in a childhood friend (psychopath?), a new boutique assistant (psychopath?), a single mom (psychopath?) at your son's school who is after your husband, and you've got a great suspenseful read! Oh, and the therapist is being stalked by a pharmaceutical company for being a whistleblower, that shouldn't complicate things though, right? This duo's writing style (Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen) just keeps getting better! Fans of suspense and domestic thrillers will devour this one! #netgalley #thegoldencouple
The Golden Couple was awesome! It is an unforgettable kind of suspenseful thriller. It made me uncomfortable, questioning all the characters and their motives. All these people had secrets and complicated relationships. (Ugh) I was hanging on every word of this. I was excited about how the authors kept me interested. Starving for more answers only to get more delicious mystery every chapter.
The therapist Avery had a chilling, forceful presence that scared me. It was hard to tell what she was up to. Everything felt crazy and mysterious just like I like it. I highly recommend this one if you love mystery-thriller and suspense. It checked all my boxes and I hope you read it! It was really good.
Thanks St Martin’s Press via Netgalley.
Yes! The power couple did it again. An absolutely amazing thriller with all the elements I love. A therapist, a couple, a scandal, betrayal and more
This one was a good one from beginning to end . It was one of those you just want to keep reading. It has many plot twists and turns that grab you and won’t let go
Fantastic book! I read this in one sitting because I just could not put it down. Wonderful twists and turns throughout the book all the way to the very end. Am recommending this book to everyone.
Unputdownable. Is that a word? If not it should be especially after this book. It grabbed me from the beginning and had me spinning plot points in my head trying to figure it out. It’s a love triangle but it’s also not. Marissa commits a horrible mistake which leads her to try and save her marriage by seeking out an unorthodox therapist, oops I mean “consultant”, who has serious problems of her own. This book has a lot of characters and keeps you guessing what their place is in the story and what their motives are. There’s so much going on in the best way possible, I never felt bored or strung along. If you like a good suspense novel with multiple plot lines that will make you ignore your kids & call in to work, this is it.
Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen always grab a hold of my undivided attention with their fantastic suspenseful thrillers The Golden Couple is another gem.
This story is told from MPOV narration. Marissa and Avery Bishop are the perfect couple who hire Avery an unlicensed therapist with unconventional methods to work on their marriage after Avery cheats.
The twist in turns in this story add in mystery elements that were quite interesting. I really enjoyed Avery as a character her unconventional methods were quite interesting to read about.
The Golden Couple is available for publication in the U.S. March 2022. Grab your popcorn and get lost in the pages of this domestic thriller. It's a popcorn worthy binge read.
This was a completely fascinating read. Avery Chambers is a therapist, albeit one who has lost her license, who has come up with a 10 session system that will solve everyone's problems. Seem too good to be true? Readers will follow along as Avery uses her method on a couple having more than just marital problems. This book has the most amazing, intense cast of characters. Matthew, the husband, is a bit of a jerk. Marissa, the wife, seems to be just getting by taking care of the couple's son. Avery herself is a bit of a hot mess when it comes to her personal life but does a bang-up job of being an effective therapist as she stalks her clients day and night. All in all, this is a book that fans of suspenseful thrillers won't want to miss.
Really great story that built up the tension and surprised me a little with the ending. I loved some of the misdirection and twists. I will definitely read more from the author
A maverick ex-therapist who now operates as an independent consultant, Avery Chambers has developed her own ten-step system for overcoming trauma. Her system is so successful that clients continue to seek her out and pay her astronomical fee even though her unconventional methods have caused her to lose her license. When the Bishops walk through her door, Avery decides that her system can help them overcome the wife’s infidelity. As she inserts herself in their lives in order to uncover the truth behind the betrayal, unexpected connections are revealed that threaten much more than the couple’s unraveling marriage.
I really enjoyed this twisted web of lies and betrayal. Avery is a fantastic protagonist; complex and rather morally/ethically gray, I ended up liking her much more than I originally thought I would. The Bishops were a very interesting couple and I was captivated by the mysteries surrounding their crumbling marriage. All of the main characters were fleshed out well enough to be intriguing in their own way. I figured most of it out a little earlier than I would’ve liked because the flashbacks were too detailed to be peripheral - they were basically flashing beacons of clues. There were some unresolved red herrings and the conclusion was a bit too neatly wrapped up, but this was still a page turner.
