I swallowed this book up in a single sitting.

The characters were each interesting and explored just enough to get to know them and their motivations and to leave room for intrigue and the possibility that there's more going on than one might think. In fact, there were a few instances where I felt disappointed to find out that more ominous things weren't going on with the characters.

This is definitely a plot-driven story about a married couple that go to see an ex-therapist who has a fool-proof ten-step method to "cure" her patients. As it is with these books, there's more than meets the eye, of course.

There's an ominous feel the whole time you read the book. Both of the characters who tell the story are jumpy and not comfortable in their skin so they constantly are on edge and so is the reader as a result.

Even though I guessed the ending a bit before it unraveled, I enjoyed reading every page of this book and i am confident others will, too.

So many twists and lies! You really don't know who to trust and what is true.

Avery Chambers is an unlicensed therapist who says she can fix you in 10 sessions. She is hired by Marissa who wants to save her marriage to Matthew.

I wasn't sure until the very end and appreciated how all the characters and storylines were interwoven but finally came together.

I started reading this book in the hopes of remedying my fall reading slump- and it worked perfectly!!!

The Golden Couple alternates between the perspective of Marissa- the seemingly perfect wife in a seemingly perfect couple, and Avery, a former therapist who is assisting the couple. Like all great books, each character has faults but it also relatable and likable in many ways. As Marissa and her husband, Matthew, seek help from Avery for a crisis in their marriage, many different things come to light and you become so enthralled with the story that you can't stop until you know how it ends. Along the way you get a view into some of the other elements in the lives of the characters, which all have relevancy of some measure to the greater story. (I especially fell in love with Romeo!!)

To me, this is the definition of a propulsive thriller- solid writing, twists and turns, and a build up to an explosive ending. I couldn't stop reading, and finished the book in 24 hours because it was just that good.

I've read another Hendricks/Pekkanen book, and I think that I liked this one even more. Now I am madly searching out their backlist in the hopes of finding another reading experience like the one I just had.

I found the writing to be engaging, the characters to have many relatable elements, and I didn't feel like that authors were playing into any gimmicks in terms of twists and turns. Bottom line, this was a fast-paced read that is perfect for people looking for an entertaining and engaging read. I highly recommend it for people who have liked the authors' past books, but also for fans of Lisa Jewell, Lisa Unger and Claire Mackintosh.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an early electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

NOTHING IS WHAT IS SEEMS!
Prepare to be surprised!

When Marissa tricks her husband Matthew in to a counseling session, she holds a secret that could destroy her marriage.

The therapist is a maverick who lost her license due to her unorthodox (and illegal?) tactics. Avery does things differently but she swears by her results. Tip over the table and have things crash down and put it all together again.

In this twisty domestic noir/thriller thriller he reader will be unable to know who to trust. The result is a sense of anxiety that will not abate until the book ends!

Readers won’t see the ending coming!

I enjoyed this mystery. I'm wondering if there was a TV movie something like this though.

All in all, an enjoyable, quick read.

Well done! Intriguing and masterfully told, this story had me hooked from the first chapter to the last.

I received a complimentary copy of The Golden Couple from NetGalley.  Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I was surprised by several plot twists in this novel—something that I love, but does not always happen. The lack of honesty, prolonged evasiveness of elephants in the room, and secretive, possibly unreliable characters kept me guessing even after each minor new development led my mind into a new direction. I was pretty sure I had the book figured out, only to learn how wrong I really was.

I also loved the unorthodox methods of the marriage counselor/therapist. She really dove into this “perfect couples’” lives and stirred up what may have already been a mess of angry hornets.

This was one of my favorite books that I’ve read this year! I enjoyed the couple and family dynamic combined with an awesome mystery interwoven with twists that I never expected. I am looking forward to reading more of this duo of author’s books.

This was my first book by authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was definitely impressed. The story follows a therapist that has lost her license and an Insta-worthy couple who have an idyllic marriage and home life. Except, maybe not. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns this book took. There’s multiple layers and mysteries happening. There’s one specific layer I could have done without, but overall I found this a really compelling story that actually made me care about the characters (a hard thing I find in thrillers and mystery).

The best character though is Romeo, an adorable rescue pup that I adored even though he’s fictional.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend this book and anticipate that it’s going to be a big hit when it’s out!

3.5 stars Thank you to the publisher for a free copy.

I really enjoy this writing partnership. The writing is well done and they really are page turning books. Though I did not particularly like the characters, I did not complete dislike then. I found myself cheering for Marissa to see what happened in the end. I would have liked a little more on Avery because I found her character to be most interesting.

But the twist just was not a twist. I still gave it 3.5 bc I enjoyed it overall!

Greer Hendricks and Saran Pekkanen truly are a golden couple when it comes to a pair of fantastic writers that should always be paired together.

The tense story told between a therapist with a strange and unorthodox past and her on the rocks married clients will have you gripping the book tightly and constantly guessing and second guessing who you think is the “bad guy” in this strange trio, and who really needs therapy. Lines between therapist and patients becomes blurry, muddied, trampled on, and eventually erased all together - bringing out the worst qualities in them all.

I could not put this book down. This is fast, fun, thrill ride I did not want to see end. The twists so creative you’ll never see the end coming.

This is a well deserved 5 out of 5 star novel, from a 5 star writing duo, and one you should not miss!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and authors for an electronic ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book was very suspenseful, full of characters with many layers of secrets. Not one of the characters was what they seemed and it was easy to get hooked into it. A perfect couple, a therapist in danger with secrets of her own set the stage for this multilayered thriller. At times it seemed like it couldnt have been a bit tightened up with less details about things that didn't matter but that was a minor complaint. The storytelling was worth pushing through that

Golden couple Marissa and Matthew are seeking the help of Avery, a therapist, who lost her license 5 months ago. Who has secrets to hide?

This is one interesting read that sucked me right in and kept me intrigued throughout. I had no idea where this story was going because the author kept taking it to different directions. The characters are different and you want to love them and even hate them. Yet you just don’t know what to think and keep hoping and rooting. It has the mystery and suspense since you don’t know what is happening or going to happen. I would recommend you pick this one up and give it a read.

This is the fourth book I've read by this author duo. They always impress me with crazy twists, so I had to dig into this one WAY before it came out! 😂

Avery is a therapist who lost her license months ago due to using methods with her clients that pushed the boundaries. She is still practicing though.

Marissa and Matthew are what would appear to be a perfect couple, but Marissa admits to having an affair. They decide to go to therapy with Avery. What happens during the therapy gets intense. Secrets are revealed and there are plenty of twists in this one. Lots of drama, and it was quite a wild thriller that you should definitely check out, especially if you love an unreliable narrator!

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own!

I was so excited to read this book! The twists kept me hanging on and I was really invested in the characters. The author's style of writing grabbed me and I couldn't stop reading! I put all my other books aside just to get to the ending. The authors are masters of character development and suspense, which makes it easy to keep on reading through the night just to see how things turned out. The plot was well developed, and I liked the idea of a therapist trying to help a broken marriage.
I developed a love/hate relationship with the characters, plus I thought everyone was an unreliable narrator. That gave the plot some serious ups and downs.
I would read anything that these authors write because their skills make each book a winner every time.
