Marissa and Mathew turn to an unconventional and somewhat controversial therapist to repair their marriage after Marissa admits to an affair. As therapy progresses, more mysteries arise and lies uncovered. A psychological thriller with great characters and character development.
This was definitely one of my favorites by this duo. However I do feel like the ending fell a little flat. I was stoked to give it a five star review but was expecting a little more at the end. Still... 4 stars isn’t bad!
Enjoyed this page turner very much. Good story that kept me reading long after I should have stopped.. Appreciated the characters and found the writers are observant when it comes to creating realistic characters. Avery the therapist was intriguing and and I hope this might be the beginning of a series.
A rogue therapist with untraditional counseling methods, a couple on the brink of separation, and mysterious threats from unknown sources, these are the elements of the the story which result in a suspenseful and engaging read.
This is the fourth book I´ve read from this writing duo, and it works. Although my favorite book from them is still THE WIFE BETWEEN US, THE GOLDEN COUPLE still makes a great addition to the list.
I recommend it if you like thriller, mysteries, and couple´s drama.
ARC received via Netgalley
I just finished reading "The Golden Couple" by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have read quite a few books by these authors. They always do a very good job of creating a mystery and growing that mystery through a variety of suspicious characters. I kept trying to figure out who was lying and who was telling the truth and the main suspects kept changing.
The novel is about a couple who are undergoing therapy because of infidelity. There are many small mysteries throughout the book, and the authors do a masterful job of weaving it all together into a logical conclusion at the very end.
The characters in the book were layered and all had their own secrets, so that it was not easy to predict who was good and who wasn't. I liked this book because it kept me interested in the characters and what their real motives were. There was an interesting backstory to the main characters that played a huge part in the resolution of the story.
I liked that the main character, Avery, was portrayed as a strong and confident woman who could stand her ground and make her own decisions. I also liked all the supporting characters (Polly, Skip, even Natalie-especially at the end) because they were mysterious in their own right. As for the "Golden" Marisa and Matthew- I knew something was off with them and I wanted to figure out what they were up to. It was a good ending-that is all I am going to say.
I have enjoyed all books by these authors. They are a reliable duo and they write stories with strong female characters, which I like. While this novel wasn't as exciting as previous ones, it was certainly entertaining enough to merit a recommendation from this reader.
This book slipped through the cracks on my TBR pile. So I am months overdue leaving a review. Sorry! Especially because this is a great book. There were so many twists and turns that I found myself going back to reread sections because I needed to make sure I understood what was happening. Loved the suspense and was totally surprised by the ending.
like all of the previous books by these co-authors, and I think they have done it again and created a fun, fast-paced and well thought out mystery. There are a LOT of red herrings here, so you most likely won't immediately figure everything out.
Marissa and Matthew are the golden couple of the title of this novel, which is less the thriller it's advertised as than a domestic drama featuring the third person in this marriage; not the man with whom Marissa committed her one infidelity but the unconventional therapist who attempts to help salvage the marriage . Avery has a ten step plan that involves stalking her clients to learn more than the details they share with her, confronting them with evidence of their sins of omission and commission, and doing whatever she thinks necessary to force them to change their careless ways . By the time Marissa's secret is revealed - not that she cheated on Matthew, which is revealed in the novel's opening chapter, but who she cheated with - this kaleidoscope of a novel turns the reader's expectations upside down and makes you turn back the pages to see the clues you missed . Well crafted and expertly paced to the last page .
A marriage in trouble? Avery is a therapist who has unconventional methods but she is going to counsel Matthew and Marrisa. She gets very involved in their lives and finds out there might be connections to her own past.
Ever since I read The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, they have been one of my go-to suspense thriller authors. The Golden Couple is the latest in the line of absolutely riveting thrillers from this writer duo.
Avery Chambers is a maverick therapist who claims to have a unique, unconventional and highly controversial ten-session formula to set right her client’s issues. Marissa and Matthew Bishop, “the golden couple” are living the American dream - successful careers, comfortably luxurious lifestyle, 8-year old in private school, the works. An infidelity on Marissa’s part has them seeking out Avery’s services and then the thrilling spider web spins – full of suspense, drama, plot twists and unraveling secrets
This is an easy to read, entertaining novel – contemporary family drama rolled into psychological suspense thriller. Each new chapter keeps you guessing. Every time I felt I had it all figured out, the plot twist turned it on it's head. I could not put the book down until the very end.
The book comes out on 08 March 2022. Thank you St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Domestic thriller and a great one at that! I loved the couple, the characters and the storyline… it had so many twists I never saw coming! This writing duo does not disappoint. Gripping and thrilling novel.
Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are some of my favorite authors. I have loved everything they have written together and this book did not disappoint! Thank you netgalley for giving me an advanced copy to read.
Another hit by this author duo! I’ve read each book these two have written together, and they’ve just gotten better and better. I was thrilled to see that I was approved to read an early copy of this new novel! I didn’t even read the synopsis. I knew I wanted to read it and assumed I’d love it! This one was just as thrilling and suspenseful as the past books from these ladies! I will 100% be grabbing a physical copy of this one when it releases next year and I may even be giving it another read! 4 stars
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley .My review opinions are my own .
This is a intense psychological suspense book that captured this reader from the beginning.
I like how this author builds the suspense throughout with twist and turns with each charcter.
I enjoyed this book and recommend it for all who enjoy reading suspense with convoluted charcters who are not what they appear to be. Quite a intense read one that you will not want to put down.
Excellent story! Totally engrossing!. Looking forward to reading more by this author! Could not put this down!
Avery is the maverick therapist who has lost her license but still takes on private clients to work through the ten step program she has pieced together to help her patients get back on track with their relationships and life. Marissa seeks her out to help her and her husband, Matthew, after Marissa cheats on him with someone from her gym. What follows is a story that involves different characters and suspicion on how they are a part of the deception that has happened to Matthew. What does Polly, Marissa’s overly eager assistant have to do with what happened? Did Natalie, Matthew’s former girlfriend, play a part? And Skip, Avery’s friend who has gone out on a few dates with her - why is he acting secretive around her suddenly? Not to mention, Avery is being stalked by a pharmaceutical company who has found out she was a whistleblower after a client disclosed information that one of their products was killing an alarming number of people in trials, but was still up for approval by the FDA. It sounds like it’s too much to keep up with, but Hendricks and Pekkanen’s writing flows and connects all the parts up to the conclusion of the story where you release your breath as everything clicks into its spot.
Usually, I start writing my reviews about halfway through a book because I can see where it is going and how it will get there. This book, I hesitated. I wanted to be immersed in the book for my first end by the authors. This book hooks you early and you are able to easily see how the tales are interwoven without any confusion. You find that you bounce from thinking one character is the culprit to another until right before the reveal, you have your answer. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Why did I rate this thriller 5 stars? Because there are a few moments that just slap you in the face, and when that happens, it's a book that deserves a full five-star rating. This talented author duo is so good at developing characters and story lines that draw their readers in, and I would argue that The Golden Couple is their best novel yet.
This story moves between several interconnected plot lines -- the unconventional therapist, the secrets of her current clients (The Golden Couple), old loves, and even a bit of corporate espionage. The book is long, but every page is important and well-written. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and had a very hard time putting it down.
5/5 stars, will enthusiastically recommend.
Overall pretty good book but too many subplots. The need to tie up all of the loose ends in the last 30 pages was a bit jarring.
Suspension of reality needed for this one but I enjoyed it more than others written by this author duo.
Quick, entertaining read. Pick up if you are a fan of psychological thrillers.
Thank you, NetGalley for the opportunity to review THe Golden Couple.
This book is all about deception., and that is what makes it a wonderful swift read up until the last page. The story builds and builds and boils at times, but we are only given small clues to try and unravel the mystery. In fact, there are two interwoven stories and at times it is hard to piece together all the clues that are needed to understand where we are headed, so this really is a page-turner.
The writing is direct, tight, and keeps the reader intrigued as we go through a series of therapy sessions with a controversial therapist, hired to heal the marriage of the golden couple. The therapist is hiding her own secrets, and with all these secrets there are many false clues. Everyone looks guilty in some way, so it is intriguing to see
how the puzzle fits together.
I don't want to spoil the story, and so am being rather vague. I would suggest you pick it up if you like reading a well-written story with a surprise ending.
