I received an ARC from NetGalley, but was not otherwise compensated for this review.

Marissa and Matthew are the perfect couple. Beautiful, well off, loving parents to their son Bennett. But they've begun counseling with Avery Chambers, whose license was revoked for a breach of ethics and yet is in even more demand after a feature article in the Post. Avery has a ten session program she swears can fix any problem - be it issues with work, infidelity, or a conflict in parenting styles. So when Marissa and Matthew become her clients, she's sure her program will work for them. But odd things keep happening, and secrets keep piling up, and it turns out that even the most perfect marriage has fractures behind that Instagram-worthy facade.

I loved The Golden Couple. I kept thinking I had it all figured out, and then more information would be revealed and I'd have to try to puzzle it all out again. On a personal note, the story is set in DC and the close-in MD suburbs, and I loved all the little nods to the familiar places.

Much like The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl, The Golden Couple will keep you enthralled and guessing until the end.

I'm not surprised that Hendricks and Pekkanen has written ANOTHER exquisite psychological thriller. They seem to hit the nail on the head with each one! I think they are my favorite writing duo and I can't stop coming back for more! If you're in the mood for an intense psychological thriller with unreliable characters and a plot that will give you whiplash then you need this book! It's going to be a big hit on 2022!

This is the first book I have read from these two authors. I usually shy away from suspense/murder mysteries. But the cover caught my attention on NetGalley and I was given the opportunity to read it. It was a good story and kept my attention every step until the way. But to me it wasn’t a great story. Some of the characters appeared early in the book and then not again until later. It made them difficult to keep up with. Avery is the main character. She was a therapist but got her license taken away and now practices as a “quasi-therapist”. The Bishops, Matthew and Marissa, are her new clients. I won’t tell any more of the story- it’s interesting, and worth reading. I will recommend. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy for my honest review.

Wow, oh wow! What a page turner! This story revolves around the Instagram perfect couple, Marissa and Matthew. Their marriage isn't quite as golden as they portray and they enter counseling due to her infidelity. Their therapist, Avery, was my favorite character in the book and I would definitely read another novel with her as the main character. Avery, who had her license revoked due to her controversial methods is now a consultant who isn't held back by pesky ethical guidelines. Let the therapy commence!!!
I don't want to give anything away, but the story is filled with secrets, lies, suspense and an interesting cast of secondary characters,
Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I'm going to be honest here: I have, overall, found Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's books super disappointing. I only requested this one because I have a hope that if I keep reading their books, eventually one will be as good as The Wife Between Us. So far, I have been very disappointed. The Golden Couple was no different.

The idea was cool: a perfect-on-paper couple goes to a rogue psychiatrist to overcome the wife's infidelity. Instead of simply getting their marriage back on track, a whole slew of scandal is revealed.

It would have been cool, too, if not for the totally unnecessary, QAnon like subplot and the slow as molasses pacing. The book somehow managed to be both overly dramatic AND painfully boring. Just not a good read at all for me.

Having been a long time fan of this author duo, I am incredibly grateful to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for gifting me a copy of their latest work, The Golden Couple-which is expected to be released on March 8, 2022.

I am always transfixed by their use of unconventional therapists interwoven into their storylines. Avery, a former therapist turned "consultant", was no exception. While aspects of her character certainly require suspension of belief, I was very intrigued by both her methods and the parallels of her storyline building in tandem with the Golden Couple, Marissa and Matthew.

In total transparency, there were times where I felt there were too many characters and too many "twists" to question their integrity. It was a lot to track and gave me a feeling of disjointedness.

While enjoyable and suspenseful, it was not my favorite work by the duo but certainly worth reading. I imagine it will make a good reading match with March's changing seasons and the need for us all to shake up reality a bit.

The Golden Couple is the next electrifying novel from The authors that brought You Are Not Alone, An Anonymous Girl, and The Wife Between Us.

If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal—she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault—and almost absorb the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death. She’s an unconventional “therapist” that wants to help “her way”.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop look like the golden couple everyone wants to be—until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their 8-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on Avery Chambers.

When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.

I enjoyed this book. It’ was one right away where I knew everyone had secrets and not everyone is who they say they are. The authors do a good job at making you either love or hate the characters. Though the ending brought a few surprises I was able to figure out a few along the way. It was a good read that I loved it when I was reading it but it never made me want to come back to it so quickly.

Overall a twist fun psychological/ family drama book!
3.5 stars rounded up!

Wow. An amazing book I finished in one day! I could not put it down and found every chapter better than the last. Thanks to Netgally for this ARC, I have read this author before but was not prepared for this story.

It centers around a therapist (who lost her license, a story in itself) and still helps people put their lives in order as long as she can do it in 10 sessions. In walks Matthew and Marissa who admits cheating on her husband, is sorry and wants to put their lives back together. Of course we follow Avery, who has her own baggage and problems to deal with, but we also find some chilling secrets and surprises along the way.

Due to be released in March 2022, mark your calendars because you wont want to miss this one. #Netgalley #fivestars

Sarah Pekkanen and Grier Hendricks are on fire with The Golden Couple! I’ve loved all their books, and this is another page-turner to add to your suspense/thriller collection.

Marissa and Mathew seem like the Golden Couple, but Marissa is hiding a secret - she cheated on her husband. She decides to take him to therapy to tell him and get everything out in the open, to heal their marriage. However, she doesn’t choose just any therapist, but Avery. Avery is no longer licensed, due to her unorthodox procedures, but Marissa is hoping she can work miracles and save her marriage.

Marissa breaks off communication with the man she cheated with, but he won’t take no for an answer. Notes, flowers, and Mathew is even assaulted. How far will her lover go to try to claim Marissa for himself? These overtures continue to drive a wedge between Melissa and Mathew, and Marissa is concerned that even the miracle worker Avery won’t be able to repair the fissure in their marriage.

Narration alternates between Marissa and Avery. This adds to the story, as we are able to see the same event from various perspectives. I've always heard that there's your version, my version, and the truth is somewhere in the middle, and that is definitely the case with the Golden Couple.

Will Avery be able to repair their marriage? Will Marissa choose Mathew or her mysterious lover? Will Marissa's family stay safe? Whew! One I couldn't put down!! Thanks to St. Martin's Press for the early copy!!

This gem is coming out March 3, 2022. Pre-order it now!!

Another excellent release by the talented duo of Greer Hendicks and Sarah Pekkanen! The narrative was seamless and, given all of the twists and turns, I found that I couldn't put it down, nor did I want it to end. I loved pretty much everything about it from the writing to the plot.

I will say that, although the end wrapped up nicely, there were still a few threads that I found left undone. I noticed that there were certain plot points that I felt were focused on throughout the book but in the end they just fizzled out without resolution. While that was a little frustrating I still loved this overall and enjoyed where the authors took us.

As always when I finish a book by this duo, I just can't wait to see what they come up with next!

Loved it. Great story of infidelity, and the lengths some people will go to to save their marriage. Also what some will go to to destroy one. Is Michael's friend Skip the reason for his wife's transgression. Is he the person stalking her. Thank u netgalley.

This is my favourite thriller duo. So of course, everytime I find out my favourite thriller author duo are writing a new book, I have to be at the front lines so I can read this. This is exactly what I wanted to satisfy my thriller binge.

Domestic thrillers have always been my thing no doubt about it! They are probably the mist interesting reads because familial problems are so common in some many places....but when authors take dark twists on them? Then nobody can deny how good they are.

This was amazing and I loved every minute of it. I played guessing games several times and tried my best to see clues from a different standpoint. This was just as epic as I expected it to be and I cannot wait to see where this duo takes their next story telling agenda!

Thank you NetGalley for an early copy of The Golden Couple

Marissa and Matthew have been together since they were in high school, he is a successful lawyer, she owns an popular shop and together they have a young son, all in all they are a perfect golden couple. That is until Marissa brings Matthew to Avery, a former therapist with a unique new approach to counseling, to confess a recent infidelity. Avery agrees to bring the couple on as clients to try and save their marriage but she must uncover how many secrets the couple is keeping. But they are not the only ones keeping secrets.

I have enjoyed the previous works of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and this one is no exception, it is a psychological thriller full of twists, sneaky characters and a twist ending. The characters are each good and flawed in their own ways which makes the story a slow burn toward the final show down. Avery is an unlikely heroine who really grows into the role as the story progresses. I would recommend this one for thriller fans who enjoy character driven plots.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to read an arc of this engaging thriller. The protagonist, Avery Chambers, a former therapist who lost her license because of her unconventional methods, is an intriguing and likable character. Part of her process is sleuthing into the lives of her clients; it's the way she's able to ferret out secrets they don't reveal during their sessions.
The story centers on her new clients, Marissa and Matthew Bishop, who want to repair their marriage. "The Golden Couple" seemed perfect until Marissa cheated on her husband. A friend sent Marissa an article about Avery and suggested she might be able to help them get their relationship back on track.
Of course, Avery has plenty of issues of her own to deal with: the recent death of her terminally ill husband and an insurance investigation into her role in his demise; a drug company hounding her for protecting a client/whistleblower; a lack-luster love life; and a new pet dog.
The narration alternates between Avery (in first person) and Marissa (in close third person). The pace seems leisurely, but the characters are fascinating, and there are enough twists, turns, and secrets revealed to keep the reader turning pages.
A thoroughly enjoyable read!

Avery Chambers isn't your usual therapist. She has a 10 session method that has proven to be extremely effective. Her newest clients, Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem to have it all...that is until Marissa cheats on her husband. Desperate to repair their relationship she turns to Avery. The therapist soon learns the seemingly golden couple are not as shiny as they appear.

This book was awesome! I have read several books by this writing team before and have never been disappointed. There were so many pieces and players in this complex story that I found myself wondering how everything would fit together...but in the end it all made sense. The ride to get to the conclusion was full of twists and turns and was very exciting. I would highly recommend this book.

I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC. I’ve read all the books by these author’s and I always enjoy them. This one did not disappoint. I really enjoyed all of the twists and turns and trying to figure it out throughout the book. It really did take me by surprise. All opinions are my own. I give this book four stars.

In my head my review is all over the place just like this book was, so many things I want to touch on!

First thing that bugs me is how Avery’s chapters are told in first person but yet Marissa’s are told in third person. Why?!

Second. Way way too many characters initially, so many that they’d mention someone & it’d take me a few to remember who they’re talking about. Eventually they stop adding in “important” people so I could focus on the story & not who the heck they’re talking about.

Ok third, the main characters were ridiculous as far as their personalities. Avery the therapist is ok & the most normal/relatable (sort of). Marissa’s character is dumb for a million different reasons & her character I couldn’t stand from start to end. One thing I enjoy in a well written book is being able to picture the characters but I found myself knowing weird details about them (how they tuck their shirt in or what shoes they are wearing) but yet not more important details like what they actually looked like. The way the characters were presented combined with the messy tangled (far fetched ridiculousness) storyline just had me rolling my eyes a lot of the time. So many different angles/“twists” & intertwining of the characters that I feel like the authors tried to hard with this one. When I say twists I say it lightly because I either kind of suspected it or wasn’t surprised with where the authors were headed with the character(s). At the end the way one of the characters, who I already didn’t like, came across was just the icing on the cake for cheesiness I couldn’t take them or the story seriously. Way over the top ending!

This story was all over the place trying to tangle everyone together like a ball of yarn it ruined the potential of the book. Ok ending but it didn’t make up for anything in my opinion. Even though I’m making this story sound awful it wasn’t a terrible book but I just wouldn’t recommend it. It is a super quick read (I mainly just read it for a little bit each night), for the most part it kept my attention it just wasn’t what I look for in a book. 3-3.5 stars rounded down.

Always so appreciative of NetGalley & the publisher St Martins for allowing the opportunity to read an advanced copy - thank you!

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is the story of a successful couple, who might not be all the seem. When Marissa decides they need some counseling, it's because she has a secret to tell her husband Matthew, but she tells him it's because she wants to discuss their son with an expert. She seeks out Avery Chambers, a therapist who has lost her license, but her unconventional methods have made her very successful in repairing broken marriages. When Marissa divulges her secret in their first session, Matthew blows up, but then decided that he did want to save the marriage...but it turns out he had a few secrets of his own.

This novel is riveting and I stayed up much too late because I couldn't put it down! As with their previous novels, if you like a tightly written mystery that keeps you guessing until the end, this is one for you! Thank to the authors, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review. #thegoldencouple #stmartinspress #netgalley

Another great book by Greer and Sarah!

This book kept me thinking i knew the answers until it would prove me wrong UP UNTIL THE VERY END. I finished this book in about a day because *DUH* I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I actually liked both of the main characters which isn't usually the case. I found both relatable.

I can't say much else, except- EVERYONE GO GET THIS BOOK!!!

This writing duo is amazing. I was a bit confused for a bit and i didn't think I would enjoy it. But then i started to like Avery's messed up version of private eye meets psychologist meets stalker :P. I was hooked and I was so suspicious of EVERYONE! I think it was great. I think I wanted a bit more humph and surprises but I did really like it.
