I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Well, this book was good. It took turns I didn't see coming.

Avery is a therapist who has some very unconventional ways. So much that she lost her license because of it. Marissa and Matthew seem like he perfect couple until Marissa drops a bombshell in their therapy appointment that she has been unfaithful. As the story unfold, Avery becomes entwined in their marriage.

This book had me staying up way too late to keep reading each night. The twists and turns it took kept me interested and I feel like they left this open at the end to follow up more with Avery.

Wow! Another amazing read. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen do not disappoint! I read this book in less than 2 days, I could not put it down!

The Golden Couple offered twists and turns and I loved the way it was written from the perspective of the two main characters telling the story. Looks can be deceiving and those on the outside should not judge a book by its cover. Marissa hires Avery to help her marriage but what they both learn along the way is that you can never know what's going on in someone's head.

The sessions with Avery prove to be difficult and revealing.of so many secrets being hidden and divulged when it is too late. You can never underestimate your partner.

Hold on, because it's a wild ride!

Wow this sucks you right in, it’s so good! Avery Chambers is a fixer of sorts in couples counseling. The Golden Couple - Marissa and Matthew Bishop seeks Avery’s advice. Avery is intrigued with this couple and takes them on as clients. She delves into their lives - home, work, social activities. Secrets are revealed and it gets quite twisty! Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for a gifted copy.

This book sucked me right in. It unfolds with excellent pacing and I love the dual viewpoints (even when I usually don’t).. I have some issues with how quickly the ending happened ans how the resolution was a bit out of nowhere… seems there could have been a few more hints in the earlier parts of the book so it didn’t seem so abrupt, but overall well written and I enjoyed reading this.

The Golden Couple Review!

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this gifted copy, in exchange for an honest review! This book comes out March 8, 2022.

I’ve read two other books by Hendricks and Pekkanen so I was very excited to try this! These two women are definitely made for writing thrillers. While I did enjoy The Wife Between Us and Anonymous Girl, this one is by far my favorite! The Golden Couple was a 5/5 stars for me! There was a lot of mystery going on in this and I had no clue what to even think most of the time. I was literally kept guessing and on my toes the entire book. The ending was crazy and it wrapped up so nicely as well! I also loved the switch of narrators and the characters were great! I really couldn’t put this book down. I’m a sucker for a creepy obsession and add in some murder, mystery stalking, and jealousy and you’ve got one heck of a ride!

Synopsis:

Avery Chambers has a ten step system with her patients and she can guarantee it will change their life. She’s helped people dealing with abusive spouses, anxiety, infidelity, etc.
The Bishops are definitely considered the IT couple, people even call them the Golden Couple. That is, until Marissa Bishop has an affair. Marissa is willing to to anything to save their marriage. Even if that means trying a very unconventional 10 step program by a therapist whose license was taken away.
The first session seems to go well with Amy, but it’s hard to get any work down when you are keeping secrets from your therapist. The Bishops and their therapist are in much more danger then they will ever know.

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen was another brilliant thriller by this writing pair. Again, I know to expect this, and I just dig the thrills and twists they build into their story. The story focuses on a couple who has sought out a therapist due to the wife cheating. This therapist guarantees that she can fix you in ten sessions. The only thing is - She's no longer licensed. However, the couple is willing to give her a chance to fix the broken trust and cracks in their marriage. Along the way, you learn more about not just the couple, but the therapist. You quickly learn there is something going on with all parties, and it is just a matter of all the pieces coming together which is what makes the suspense so, so good. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this March 2022 release! This is another pageturner you're going to need in your life.

The Golden Couple, a mystery/thriller book was a solid 4 stars. This is the second book I've read by Hendricks and Pekkanen, and I think it's my favorite so far.

This book changes pov, and centers around three main characters, Avery, a therapist, and her patients, a married couple called Marissa and Matthew. Though seemingly a “golden couple”, they start seeing Avery to repair their marriage after Marissa admits to infidelity. Avery isn’t an ordinary therapist though-she’s one that lost her license due to her controversial methods where she requires that they commit to ten sessions, pay in advance, and do everything that she asks them to. Instead of merely listening to their relationship issues, Avery intrudes their lives, seeking out bigger truths and interacting with people in their world. Avery quickly realizes that their issues are much bigger than just one infidelity and this leads to a fairly thrilling set up where you don't know who is telling the truth and who is not. There are also side stories about Avery's former clients that pop up throughout the story.
The Golden Couple is a complicated read, and I did have a bit of a hard time keeping focused on it in the middle. It is definitely an entertaining book and full of twists and turns. Well-developed characters and an entertaining plot, it is a must read for fans of mystery/thriller books. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review. (less)

Another freaking WINNER by these two authors!
I don't know how they do it. How they write such engaging POVs that make you forget the other POV is coming. I DEVOURED this.

I loved this book! I couldn't put it down! I was intrigued by the characters from the get go and loved the twist on the therapist being one who wants the best for her clients, who has a tried and true approach, but who is no longer restricted by a professional license (due to her license being previously revoked whoops). Such good intentions using borderline (hmmm) questionable methods to get the best results for her clients. Brilliant for the author to think of that! And don't get me started on the golden couple. This story unfolds at a beautiful pace with just the right amount of character development, detail and mystery. I wish I could read this one all over again from the beginning for the first time but alas instead I'll just have to recommend it to all of my friends! Thank you so much Greer Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanen, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for honoring me with this ARC!

I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of The Golden Couple! Our story begins with Avery, who is a therapist, who lost her license, and has since developed a 10-session "cure" for whatever your issue may be. Enter Marissa and Matthew, who are just beginning Avery's treatment plan. We soon find out that Marissa has led Matthew into therapy under false circumstances, and the real reason is that she had an affair. Avery, however, is undergoing her own life stressors, thinking she is being stalked by a large pharmaceutical company because she "ratted them out" on side effects of their upcoming prescription medication. We also are introduced to Marissa's son, Bennett, who is adorable, Polly, who is the suspicious employee at Marissa's boutique, and Skip. Marissa and Avery may have more in common than they are aware of with Skip. Honestly, while I enjoyed the flashbacks to when Marissa and Matthew were younger, and I did like Marissa, this book just wasn't for me. The last 10% of the book just became unbelievable for me, and I did not like the "twist" (if you could call it that). I found myself rolling my eyes, and feeling, "is this it"?! "This is what I read this for"!? Sadly, I give this 2.5-3 stars.

Avery Chambers is a "therapist". Initially, she had been a regular psychotherapist, but she lost her license due to some unconventional approaches to treatment. She has devised a ten-point plan that she claims is guaranteed to fix people's problems. For this, people pay her a pretty penny.

A seemingly golden couple come to her for advice regarding their marriage. Matthew Bishop is a fancy lawyer in the D.C. area, whereas his spouse, Marissa runs a chichi boutique, catering to people who have too much disposable income.

At the Bishop's first meeting with Avery, Marissa confesses to having had a one-night stand, allegedly with a guy from the gym. Matthew goes ballistic.

As they work through the ten steps, the couple seemingly becomes a bit closer together. But, Avery sees a number of issues. Her approach is to spy on her clients to find as many details of their lives as she can. She finds, continually, that her clients aren't telling her the truth. So, she has to find ways to make them become more honest.

But there are other issues. It seems that Avery is being stalked herself. One of her clients mentioned that the drug company for which she worked had been fudging data on drug trials: a significant number of people taking said drug had died. Avery provided an anonymous tip to the FDA, but it seems "someone" figured out the source of said tip and Avery has had a number of threatening encounters. Worse still, some of the encounters appear to have associations with the Bishops.

So, this book is one part a description of marital problems and one part thriller. Usually such a book would not be the cup of tea for an elderly, repressed Calvinist, but I actually found the story quite compelling. It kept my interest the whole way through.

LOVED THIS BOOK!! Avery is a psychotherapist and has taken on married couple, Marissa and Matthew, and their infidelity issue with a lifelong buddy. But their lives (and Avery's too!) are not what they seem. The story is filled with the uncovering of secrets and deceptions, and ultimately the truth is known. I was surprised and shocked as the story unfolded. The authors tied it all together in a satisfying way at the end. This book is "not putdownable"! Highly recommend!

Thanks to Net Galley for allowing me to read The Golden Couple! Looking forward to the next book by these authors!

The dynamic duo have done it again. Meet Marissa and Matthew, the golden couple, who need to see an unconventional therapist. Marissa has cheated on her husband and needs help with repairing her marriage, however there are a lot of unseen forces and people involved in this couple's marriage. It is up to Avery the therapist to unravel the mystery of the golden couple. You know that the twist when it comes is going to shock you and the authors don't disappoint.
Thank you Netgalley for an advanced reading copy.

I raced through this one. I love the authors, and I think this is their best one yet. This is everything I like in a thriller—taut, surprising, with well developed characters with big secrets. And I did NOT see the ending coming. The plot is complex and layered, and the authors throw a lot of curve balls but it all comes together in the end! 5 ⭐️

Avery, a therapist, had a very unorthodox approach to therapy, giving her clients only ten sessions to solve their problems. She was the only chance Marissa thought she had to save her marriage to Matthew. Avery lost her license due to her unorthodox approach to therapy and now was considered a consultant and was highly sought after and charged a hefty fee. As Marissa and Matthew went through their therapy sessions many strange things started to happen. Avery couldn’t figure out this so called “Golden Couple”. She knew that both husband and wife had deep secrets that needed to be revealed in their sessions. But Avery needed to speed things up so she dug into both Marissa’s and Matthews past and present. Nothing was as it seemed and Avery realized the situation was getting dangerous. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was the villain and who was the victim. I didn’t guess correctly and was totally surprised at the end. I liked that Avery was a strong female character that dealt with problems head on. I would love to see the author write another book with more of Avery and her clients!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is another excellent read for this year. It is a stellar story about a young, beautiful, and happily married “golden” couple who have significant issues when one spouse commits adultery. In an attempt to repair this fracture in their marriage, Matthew and Marissa seek counseling from a unique (not technically a marriage counselor but very successful) therapist who has a 10-step treatment to fixing relationships. The therapist, Avery, is unique and skirts the bounds of impropriety, but I loved following her wildly inappropriate conduct, leading to a shocking discovery. I don’t want to give away the story because there are plots, sub-plots, and sub-sub-plots, and they are all good. Some unsavory characters, big pharma makes an appearance, and nosy employees get into deep weeds when they interfere with love. Holy cow, this was a great story and a first-rank thriller. Netgalley has another great book on their hands, and I am confident readers will be extremely well received. #thegoldencouple @greerhendricks @sarahpekkanen @netgalley @stmartinspress #thriller #therapy #abuse

What would you do if you found out your spouse had cheated? This story goes through the lives of Matthew and Marrissa and working their way through a cheating issue. This book is told from the POF of 3 different characters. You will find many different twists, and turns. However, the ending is quick, and somewhat predictable. However, I enjoyed the book and it kept my interest all the way through.

The Golden Couple is packed full of a good story, interesting characters, surprises, twists, great writing, and an ending that I didn’t see coming.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. It’s another excellent page-turner by Hendricks and Pekkanen. … love, love, loved it!

Mark your calendars!! March 8, 2022 the dynamic duo returns!

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Overall, I gave this book 4 stars. It was fast paced, filled with secrets and hooked me right from the beginning. I really enjoyed this book especially since Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pakkanen have become "auto- buy" authors after "The Wife Between Us". There were some things I had trouble with which I'll break down below.

Part 1- I gave 4.5 stars. This book started out very strong and pulled me right in! Part 1 focused on laying everything out and setting the stage.

Part 2- I gave 3.5 stars. At this point, there seems to be a lot of fractured plot lines and characters entering. It could be that the authors were trying to create the sense of, "You can't trust anyone". However, for me, it began to get frustrating as I tried to understand how these come together. The writing saved this part for me because it was easy to read, flowed and created a sense of unease.

Part 3- I gave 4 stars. The story starts to pick up speed during this part. I found myself not being able to read fast enough as things began to make sense. However the plot twist at the end, was lack luster. I found myself saying "Oh... that's it?"

Overall, very enjoyable thriller that makes you wonder... who can you trust and how well do you know the people in your lives?

THE GOLDEN COUPLE BY SARAH PEKKANEN AND GREER HENDRICKS could not and did not disappoint. These two paired together are dynamic. This story follows a married couple (hence the golden couple), their disgraced therapist, and is told from each POV. I was invested in all three POV’s. Each one is lying and you really don’t know who is telling the truth. It is a super fun ride while it unravels. Thank you so much to netgalley and St. Martins Press for this ARC.
