I always enjoy books by Greer Hendricks and Sara Pekkanen. This book kept me guessing for most of it, and I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the twist. I'll keep reading every book they put out!

Five Star Thriller Review❄️

What.a.ride. I had all but sworn off therapist tropes but this spin was amazing! And made me wish these methods were easily obtainable to find myself!

This is my fourth book by the amazing duo @sarahpekkanen and @greerhendricks and each book is better than the last!

I am usually an early twist finder in thrillers and this one three me at each curve and I couldn’t stop racing to finish.

I did find it odd that people seemingly close ish in age to me had a land line. Do people still have them? I’m very curious!

If you want a more eloquent review on this fantastic book I suggest checking out the one by @theopinionatedreader it’s great!

Thank you so much @netgalley and @stmartinspress for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Pre-order this gem- pub date is 3/22/22.

Loving this dynamic duo’s previous works, I was thrilled to get an early look at the next, “The Golden Couple”. I feel as though I have read a lot of recent books about therapists, but this one is a quite a departure! Avery, the “consultant” (no longer allowed a therapist title), guarantees to “fix” it in 10 sessions or less - and she uses rather unconventional methods to do so…. So will “Golden Couple” Marissa and Matthew resolve their marital problems with her assistance? Lots of twists and turns follow, of course…. highly recommend to any who have enjoyed their previous works, or enjoy domestic thrillers . My sincere thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for the complimentary DRC, which did not affect my review!

I just finished a real tearjerker so this was the perfect book to read next- something that keeps you on the edge of your seat and doesn't allow any time for emotion because you're just trying to FIGURE IT OUT.
Like all of their previous novels:
-every character is suspicious & hiding something
-twists & turns
-moments of pure disbelief

Add it to your TBR now!

✨The Golden Couple✨
▪️Read Sept 2021▪️
ARC from @

Avery Chambers can fix any client in just 10 unconventional therapy sessions - if she can’t, she won’t take you on as a client. Matthew and Marissa Bishop are known as the “golden couple”, both successful business people, one child in the prestigious private school, and a love story others would die to have. Why would Marissa and Matthew need Avery’s services? Marissa requests her help with a small detail that blows up to be a whole mess of layers into their personal lives. While Avery has secrets of her own of how she lost her license to practice, she is prepared to use her controversial methods to help mend the Bishop’s lives.

This book has so many layers of twists and details that can’t go unnoticed. It kept me interested and craving the need to continue reading to crack the mystery. I thought I had it all figured out and then BOOM another twist! 💥

This book doesn’t release until March 2022, but it’s a must read!

THE GOLDEN COUPLE is a fun and entertaining domestic suspense/thriller with high stakes.

First things first, I had to suspend disbelief when it comes to the maverick ex-therapist angle. Avery's methods seem quite extreme and unrealistic. However, I'm glad I was able to go with the flow to enjoy the story.

Switching back and forth between Marissa and Avery proves a very effective method to ratchet up suspense and I found myself frantically turning the pages.

The side characters are multi-dimensional and add a lot to the story. I also enjoyed the scenes set in Coco, Marissa's high-end store. The authors do a good job of showing us each character's home environment as well, which adds to the feeling that we are getting to know the characters.

The prose is extremely well-written and puts this thriller in the top of its category. The ending feels satisfying.

A bit of a slow burn at the beginning with a bunch of red flags that didn’t make one of the “twists” too unexpected, but the last 20% or so became a real page turner. Marissa’s guilt was palpable and even though she made some annoying choices and actions, I still found myself rooting for her. And Avery was also a likable character, a rarity lately for me to read a novel that has protagonists that I like.

Another Greer Hendricks thriller. Hard to put down, with many suspicious characters. Kind of figured out ending before but was still a great read!

This book was hard to put down. It centers on Marissa, who seeks marriage counseling after cheating on her husband, and Avery, the disgraced therapist she engages, and the chapters alternate between these 2 POVs. Both Avery and Marissa were believable and likable characters, though clearly flawed. I found myself equally invested in both stories.

There is a lot going on in this book, with many suspicious characters, but it's easy to keep track of who everyone is (though you'll be continually guessing about what they are all lying about). Everyone is lying in some way in this book, but it's really hard to figure out what they are all lying about and why. When all is said and done, it all makes sense and felt at least somewhat plausible. That being said, I was truly surprised by the ending; though I had pictured various scenarios, what really happened was a great twist. My only small nit was that I didn't truly understand how Avery came up with her 10-step therapy plan and what her big-picture end game was.

All in all, this is a great read and I imagine you will have to shirk your other responsibilities because you can't put it down- that is certainly what I did! I look forward to reading the next book by this duo. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This talented duo of writers have done it again! The novel focuses on a couple whose relationship is literally on the rocks following the wife’s infidelity. Their decision to try and work things out leads them to the encounter with an allegedly excellent therapist which leads to some very unexpected revelations. A stupendous book!

There's a lot going on in this book and as I was reading it I felt like it should have been 2, 3 or even 4 separate novels instead of multiple storylines that suffered from a lack of intricate attention to detail and multiple inconsistencies.

Story 1. The therapist, Avery, is dealing with her own stalker drama yet she's still jogging on secluded trails and takes chances with her own safety. She's juggling her clients and diving into their private lives to the point of unprofessional intrusiveness, which she admits caused her to lose her license so she's operating instead as a "consultant".

Story 2. Her clients, The Golden Couple, are an upper middle class couple with a young son. Marissa owns a boutique and Matthew is constantly working. In their first session with Avery, Marissa owns up to a one-night stand with another man and Matthew is enraged at first, but then suddenly takes an about-turn and a few chapters later seems to have forgotten about the betrayal and is a loving husband.

Marissa's hot and cold treatment of her employee, Polly is a roller-coaster that made no sense. One minute she's distrusting Polly and ready to fire her but the next she's asking her to babysit her son.

Stories 3, 4. A past murder of a friend when Marissa and Matthew were high-schoolers is constantly brought up. Another old friend shows up who may or may not be the murderer turns out to be Marissa's one-night stand, but he also had a relationship with Avery (!) There's also Matthew's father who turns up who may or may not be Avery's stalker.

I'm giving the book a hesitant 3 stars for readability. While the book kept my interest I kept reading to find out how all these connections would resolve but found myself consistently leaving the story behind to try and make sense of the characters. who was doing who, what and why. Though I did find Avery a compelling character who I might want to read more about, I'm not sure I liked her very much.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the early read.

Creative and twisty. 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“You can never truly know what is inside another person’s heart or head.”

Marissa and Matthew Bishop appear to be The Golden Couple—successful, good looking, happy– until Marissa cheats. In an attempt to heal her marriage, Marissa seeks out the help of Avery Chambers, a therapist who claims she can fix you in just 10 sessions, or she won’t take you on. As the three begin to work together and secrets are revealed, it becomes clear that it’s not only a marriage that’s in danger.

I was drawn into this story right from the start and I didn’t want to put it down. There are so many layers to this book and plenty of twists and turns! While not all of the side stories were necessary they blended together well in the end. And, I didn’t figure out the final reveal too early on which is a plus. I really enjoyed this one!

A great book. A captivating mystery, with enough twists to make even the most cynical reader happy. You want explorations into psychology, relationships, emotions? The perfect marriage devolves in the midst of the three protagonists, and each page entices you to keep reading to see what happens next. All the feels! Loved this book and I hope there is a sequel.

This book totally swept me up and was so hard to put down, I read it on just over a day. It had you pointing fingers at all sorts of characters and was still a surprise. Loved it!

OMG This is one that I was really enthusiastic to read because I have loved EVERYTHING that these two authors have written and just a little secret (they didn't let me down! I was glued to my kindle the last 40% of the book!)
Marissa Bishop sought out Avery Chambers to help her with her marriage. Marissa had a fling and she wanted to tell her husband in a controlled environment, where she and he could work out their differences and heal their marriage. Avery is just the unorthodox therapist to do this, see she only takes clients that she can help in 10 visits because she has a system that works. So while they work through her program they can be in a different place than when they first came to see her. So, while it seems that the Bishops are getting through their issues slowly Marissa still has issues with notes and flowers showing up at work and at home, while she is trying to get on with things. It seems that the other man just won't let their one-night stand go.
Avery because she made an anonymous call on a pharmaceuticals company she is kept on her toes by these people trying to find out who she was and who her informant was because they want revenge. So, while she is working with her different clients she is also keeping one eye over her shoulder for anyone from that company.
But like with everything all is not what it seems, while to the outside Marissa and Matthew Bishop may look like the golden couple there is always something just lurking beneath the surface that you never knew was there. If you have read and loved any of their books before you are going to love this one, if not then you really should check out these authors' books they always have a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat!
Thank you so much Netgalley and St. Martins Press for the extraordinary opportunity to read and review this one! (My children thank you because they got to see the awkward excited book dance when I was approved!)

The Golden Couple was a dark, twisty mystery that kept me reading late into the night to finish it. Not your typical thriller, this book has many different layers to it that keeps you guessing. While some of the side stories seemed unnecessary, they didn't detract from the main storyline. Definitely recommend.

To use an analogy from the great movie Shrek-this book was like an onion, there were multiple layers. The Golden Couple has multiple plots that were interwoven beautifully. I feel like some thrillers are basic-you have a murder, and the characters must figure out who did it. This book was much more advanced. There was a betrayal, a murder, a stalker (several), and so so many lies. You are on your edge of your seat while trying to understand what really is going on in these people's lives.

The seemingly perfect Matthew and Marissa Bishop have elected to go to marriage counseling with an unconventional therapist, Avery. Marissa has a secret; she has cheated on her husband. They agree to go through Avery's ten-point therapy plan and more secrets about their lives are revealed at each step. There are suspicious people everywhere from Marissa's shop attendant, a long-time family friend, to a mother from their son's school that always seems just a tad bit too interested in Matthew. Avery has her own set of problems.... she is being followed. She knows the name of a whistle-blower that a major corporation would kill to get their hands on.

I both liked and deeply didn’t trust any of the characters. Each chapter there seemed to be a new suspect and I enjoyed that I didn’t really know how the book was going to end throughout. Great thriller!

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are a favorite author pair for me and I have read everything from the duo.
This domestic thriller received only one star less than their other books from me. It contains my favored dual point-of-view protagonists, a twisty, short-chapter unraveling of the narrative, lots of domestic deceit, and good character development of The Golden Couple Marissa and Matthew, and their “consultant”/defiled therapist, Avery.
This book for me slightly lacked the sharp thriller bite of their previous books, though. I was never *really* afraid for Marissa or Avery; and the ending, while providing satisfactory answers to the plot questions, was not explosive. I had also expected a darker reveal in Avery (though I loved her happy dog-adoption experience!).
Still a solid four-star read. Thank you to the authors, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the ARC read. I will always be grateful to read anything by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Publishing Group for sending me an ARC of The Golden Couple in exchange for an honest review.

Avery Chambers was a successful therapist until five months ago, when she lost her license due to her controversial approach. Now she’s an even more successful “consultant,” which seems to be a therapist with a different name. Marissa and Mathew Bishop are the titular Golden Couple, who come to Avery for help after Marissa cheats on Matthew. Avery agrees to help them because she’s intrigued by what they’re not telling her, and to help her avoid some personal issues of her own.

The Golden Couple is told in first-person chapters generally alternating between Avery and Marissa. As with You Are Not Alone, and in contrast with the authors’ earlier books The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl, this is not a tale told by unreliable narrators. Instead, the mystery lies in who they should trust, why events are occurring, and whether it will be to late to stop those events.

I really enjoyed the plot lines involving Marissa. I thought they were well-written and well-plotted, with both small bits of information passed along at strategic points as well as three or four big plot twists throughout her story. But the Avery backstory and solo plot lines that left me flat. She has enemies, but their methods and reasons for coming after her just didn’t seem believable. There were a few too many connections and coincidences to feel realistic. Finally, it may sound small but it really did add to the whole unbelievable feel of the Avery storyline: you can’t just call yourself a “consultant” and then act as an unlicensed therapist. That’s not a thing.

So while I still liked The Golden Couple overall, I must say that I found it to be the least satisfying of the novels by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I wish Avery had been given a better, more realistic story. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
