This was a fun book, but I can think of a better title. Just call it The Red Herrings and be done with it. Never have I read a book that led you down more blind alleys. Every time I was sure who was behind all the mayhem in the lives of the featured couple, a new twist would be revealed, and I would have to back up and integrate the new detail into my thinking. Although that is usually a good technique in developing a mystery, in this case the unpredictability became so predictable I stopped being fooled. I did like the way the chapters focused on the couple and on their therapist who played a major role in the dynamics of the story. Avery, the unconventional therapist, has quite a few issues of her own. Rather than just being a sounding board for the couple attempting to repair a broken marriage,, she takes an active role in shaking up their relationship. We see the moves she makes to push them forward while at the same time we follow the equally turbulent drama in Avery’s own life.
All in all, this was an entertaining story and I could see Nicole Kidman producing or starring in this for Netflix.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First, let me say I would pre- order any book that Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen writes. I previously loved The Wife Between Us, Anonymous Girl and You Are Not Alone, so I was shrieking (well, silently) with joy when I received this copy of their latest book. Thank you so much for that.

This book didn't disappoint, I finished it in two days, and it was just as good as the previous three I read.

The book had a parallel plotline- one of the golden couple, and one of the narrator, and I spent a long time questioning the motive of the narrator, and is she who she says she is. The initial visit, chapter one set up the story beautifully, including her line about how she is no longer a therapist, she lost her license- I was instantly hooked. My heart pounding wildly when Marissa found the Life Savers in Bennett's hand, and I remember thinking: I need to know what happened!!

I especially liked the Natalie storyline wrapping up fully in the last chapter, very pleasantly surprised by the women uplifting women part.

The Golden Couple are not so golden. In fact, we learn that they are more than a little tarnished. Marissa has risked her marriage by having a one night stand. She is unable to live with the guilt and decides to see a therapist - Avery. Not just any therapist, but one that promises to fix you in ten sessions - for a very high fee. Both Marissa and Matthew attend the sessions and Matthew appears able to forgive Marissa’s indiscretion. However, Avery is not one to accept how things appear on the surface so if she is to fix things in ten sessions, she needs to dig deeper into their lives. And dig deeper she does.
I have read this duo’s previous books and thoroughly enjoyed them so I was happy to get this one to review. This is the kind of book that once I start reading, I can’t put it down. The characters are very well developed and it’s a good mystery/thriller. I think they could make a series out of Avery’s clients and her escapades.

Synopsis in Three Sentences:
Avery Chambers is a former therapist turned consultant who tries to help people overcome problems in 10 sessions. Marissa and Matthew Bishop need help repairing their marriage after Marissa has an affair and they hire Avery. Unfortunately, everyone is keeping secrets and as everything begins to unravel it's not just a marriage that's in trouble.

My Thoughts:
The Golden Couple is a story that sucks you in right away. It's like a jigsaw puzzle as the reader tries to find all the pieces and how they fit together. The story is told in alternate perspectives which leaves the reader perplexed, determined to keep reading to figure out how everything is connected. The characters are mysterious, alluring and seductive. The story reminds me of a private eye or detective trying to find answers. This is one of my favorites that this author dual has released.

This was a fast paced thriller that I devoured in a day. I enjoyed the two POVs, although the voices were not always distinguishable. I found all the characters intriguing. The resolution felt realistic and there were enough clues throughout the novel to not feel like a cheat. I wish there had been more with Avery the therapist. I thought the novel was going to include more about her sessions but they just mentioned other clients and the names for the sessions. I wanted more showing and not as much telling for this aspect. I enjoyed this novel and recommend it highly. Thank you for the opportunity.

Another fun, fast-paced thriller by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen. Avery Chambers, a therapist with controversial methods, starts working with Marissa and Mathew Bishop, an apparently golden couple. However, things aren’t as they seem, especially when Marissa admits to cheating on Matthew. Meaning, Avery is dealing with her own issues, including security threats, potential stalkers, and secrets she’d rather keep under wraps.

Like in their previous books, Hendricks & Pekkanen weave together a twisty story with engaging characters. Though the ending was somewhat predictable and so a bit of a letdown, the book was fast-paced & kept me reading. 3.5 stars.

I've read every book that Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have wrote together, so when I got the chance to read their latest book entitled The Golden Couple, I jumped at the chance! I've loved every novel they've written together, and I definitely loved The Golden Couple.

The synopsis for The Golden Couple reeled me in. The plot was solid albeit a little farfetched towards the ending when everything is revealed. Still, the writing was done fantastically, and I was instantly transported to this world Hendricks and Pekkanen had created. With all that was going on, I felt like there was one main storyline and two minor storylines going on. It was fun reading The Golden Couple and trying to figure out who all was guilty. In fact, there were times I thought it may even be Marissa creating problems for herself to make herself look more like the victim. While this book is more predictable and doesn't have as many plot twists as Hendricks' and Pekkanen's previous novels, the plot twists in this novel were interesting to say the least. I kind of suspected the culprit of the story, but then again, everyone was a suspect in my head. The ending is tied up nicely with no loose ends which is always a plus for me.

Hendricks and Pekkanen know how to write some stellar characters! I felt as if every character in The Golden Couple was fleshed out enough to feel realistic instead of just some writing on paper. Marissa showed that she was only human through her mistakes. (Personally, I don't think I would be as forgiving as her husband, Matthew, appeared to be if my spouse cheated on me.) I felt that I would probably be like Marissa if I were in her shoes. She was fairly easy to relate to. I loved how much love she had for her young son, and I liked how willing she was to work on her marriage. I felt sorry for Marissa's husband, Matthew, when Marissa revealed she had cheated on him. I did like how forgiving he was and how much it seemed that he wanted to work on the marriage even though he wasn't the one who cheated. Sometimes I did think he tried to hard though to make Marissa feel loved. Polly, Marissa's assistant, was definitely an interesting character for sure. I didn't know what to make of her or if she could be trusted. She seemed to eager to please Marissa and like she was trying to hard to be Marissa. Still, she was a well written and likeable character. I enjoyed Avery and her very logical mind as well as her very different approach to non-traditional therapy. Her tactics she used were definitely different (and probably illegal), but they always seemed to work. I also admired how dedicated she was to her clients and how much she wanted to help them. Avery came across as very smart and sophisticated.

Trigger warnings for The Golden Couple include infidelity, profanity, alcohol use, some violence, gun violence, death, and murder.

Overall, The Golden Couple is a highly entertaining read that you will not want to put down. It will leave you guessing until the very end. I would definitely recommend The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen to those aged 18+ who are after a fantastic thriller that will stay with them for awhile.

I don't typically come across thrillers written by teams like Hendricks and Pekkanen— I'd be curious to see how the actual writing plays out in reality. Still, they certainly seem to have found something that works here! I've read their previous novels, The Wife Between Us, An Anonymous Girl, and You Are Not Alone. All of these are deliciously "unputdownable," and The Golden Couple is no exception. I'm always looking for thrillers to hook me in quickly so I can get lost in them, and these two haven't failed me yet.

The Golden Couple has the expected layered plot, with lots of their signature twists and shocking developments. The readers' allegiances shift back and forth as the novel goes on; I love the constant skepticism we must maintain. In the past, I've found that the twists have been a little too heavy-handed, leaving the reader with something only vaguely believable and thin. But with The Golden Couple, it seems like they are strengthening their skills in this area, though we're still required to suspend slight disbelief in the end. It's easy to forgive, however, since the book was just so enjoyable to read anyway. I appreciated the depth of the separate storylines and characters as well; it wasn't focused exclusively on the golden couple themselves, as Avery had her own solid plot and background well-established, too.

The Golden Couple was an entertaining read, and Pekkanen and Hendricks keep getting better and better. I cannot wait to see what they come up with next!

Excellent! This dynamic duo really out did themselves on their fourth collaboration. I believe this may be their very best book yet and I loved the previous books. Each night I looked forward to picking up, The Golden Couple, and squeezing in one more chapter and then just one more. I was kept on my toes guessing what was going on and what the connections were. Pure entertainment! I highly recommend, The Golden Couple!

Thank you St. Martin’s Press for inviting me to read, The Golden Couple, in exchange for my honest review, what a wild ride! I loved it!!!

GH and SP's books have been either a hit or miss for me, with no in between. But the word is in and ‘The Golden Couple’ is a massive HIT!

This story has all the makings of a captivating mystery. The writing is easy to devour, the pacing is on point, and the characters are the right amount of relatable mixed with suspicious. I found the weaving of the both women's POVs to be highly effective. With Marissa, I was dying for her to spill her secrets. With Avery, I was so engaged with her investigating the truth. It's the perfect combination of discovering information, but also having secrets keep you on the edge of your seat.

Definitely the best book to come from these ladies so far. Fans of domestic mysteries/thrillers will for sure want to add this to their TBR, without a doubt.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

First off, I just want to say how excited I was to get approved to review this ARC! I have read all of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's previous books, and I really enjoy their incredibly intelligent writing and twisty narratives. An Anonymous Girl is one of my all-time favorite thrillers. In fact, I think that the authors are the true "golden couple"! I will read anything with their names on the cover. As long as they're writing it, I will immediately add it to my TBR list. Thank you again to the publisher for this opportunity!

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is an exciting and twist-filled psychological thriller that will have you guessing until the end. The story revolves around three characters: Avery, a "therapist," Marissa, a housewife trying to rejuvenate her marriage, and her husband, Matthew. Avery is an unconventional therapist who has been profiled in national magazines. She agrees to take on Matthew and Marissa as clients. Although they appear to be a golden couple, appearances can be deceiving. What secrets are buried in the couple's past? And what dangerous methods will Avery use to bring those secrets out in the light?

Here's an excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from Avery's point of view:

"I never know what to expect when I open my door to new clients.
The preliminary phone call only reveals so much. In this case, it came from a woman who introduced herself as Marissa Bishop.
My marriage is in trouble, she began. I need to talk to my husband about something, but it’s a bit complicated. I thought if we came in together—
I’d cut her off there.
...
If I decide to work with them, this lack of punctuality won’t happen again. I send a quick text to the man I’m seeing later tonight: 8:30 works. Do you have any limes? I set my phone to silent mode, then tuck the bottle of expensive tequila a client brought me earlier today into my tote bag. Therapists aren’t supposed to accept gifts from clients. But I’m not one to follow the rules.
I’m also no longer a therapist; I lost my license five months ago."

Overall, The Golden Couple is an absolutely amazing, unputdownable thriller that you need to add to your TBR list right away. This is the type of book that is sure to become a bestseller, just like their previous books. Sometimes, bestselling authors will put out a dud and make you wonder why they have so much hype. That is definitely not the case here! I have been continually impressed by the smart writing and the amount of thought that the authors put into their plots. You can tell immediately that the authors have to plan every single detail and conversation down to the minutest detail. I was delighted to be swept along for the ride. When I started reading it this morning, I knew that I needed to savor this book. I got into a comfortable position on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate, and I could not put this book down all day.

One highlight of this book is the mystery. The authors are masters are dropping hints and clues along the way about the reveal/climax of the book. I was drawn into the narratives of this book, which focus on Avery and Marissa. One comment from a side character in an earlier chapter can take on a different meaning several chapters later, and then the narrator expounds on the possible motives of the side character. It's just fascinating. I found myself coming up with theories and explanations for the events happening to Avery and Marissa. The plot did slow down a bit near the middle, but the action picks up again, and all of the loose threads come together for an immensely satisfying ending. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, you won't regret checking out this book when it comes out in March!

The Golden Couple was a fast-paced thriller read. I don't usually read books in two sittings, but this one grabbed me in the beginning and I was hooked. The story is narrated by two characters - Avery (the therapist) and Marissa (a patient). There's family drama, marriage issues, trust issues, mystery, some odd characters, school drama, and a number of unreliable characters (including our main characters). One little touch I liked was the inclusion about Romeo, the dog Avery adopts (I wish that my local animal shelter offered a "morning jogs with a dog" programme). At times, as with most Hendricks/Pekkanen books, there' are some red herrings along with twists and turns (and more twists and turns), but in the end everything works out - maybe not as one expected, but it makes sense. I must admit - I will read anything by this duo writing team, but if you want a quick entertaining mystery/thriller read that holds your attention, I strongly recommend this one. A solid 4.5 stars.

This was a really fun book, with great twists and turns! While I felt that the delving into the therapists personal life could have been excluded, I really enjoyed the rest of it. I always know these authors are going to throw some good twists my way, and The Good Couple was no exception!

Books written by the dynamic duo of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are at the top of my list these days. They just can’t seem to write a bad one. Their books are filled with mystery and intrigue and they are all compulsive page turners. The Golden Couple is no different.

Marissa and Matthew Bishop are that perfect couple that you would be so jealous of if you didn’t want to be their friend. They are both adorable. He’s successful, she has her own boutique and is always impeccably styled. They have an adorable son. They really have it all. And then she cheats. And she knows that to move past it, she needs to make it right. Enter Avery, the therapist that is going to use her own patented program to fix it all.

As per the usual, things are not as they seem. And Marissa and Matthew actually have more issues that they appear to have on the surface. The Golden Couple is a great twisty page-turner with all kinds of twists and turns. Greer and Hendricks do not disappoint. You’ll want this one to be on the very top of your TBR stack.

Special thanks to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for an advanced e-galley in exchange for my honest review. This one releases on March 8.

If you like mystery thrillers that make you pay attention to every detail, this one is for you. Avery Chambers is very particular about who she treats. If she doesn’t believe she can solve your issues in ten sessions, she won’t even take you on! She meets Marissa and Mathew Bishop, who seem to be the perfect couple until Marissa reveals that she has cheated on Mathew in one of their sessions and the twists and turns begin. There are secrets everywhere, and not just the Bishop marriage is in danger. You care about these well-defined characters, and I predict you will have trouble putting the book down!

This is my favorite author duo alongside Liv Constantine. However, I think this is the only thriller they've written that I wouldn't recommend. Their "You Are Not Alone", even though it wasn't their twistiest or best work compared to the excellent The Wife Between Us and Anonymous Girl, it really was much more suspenseful than The Golden Couple.

I kept waiting for a big twist or a thrilling event to occur and the book just...ended. I'd say this your regular "therapist/client" drama where things go wrong. Nothing original. Nevertheless, this is my personal opinion and I'm currently in a big reading slump where I tend to lose interest through almost every book that I start! I really was looking forward to these authors' latest work. Hopefully, other readers will enjoy it more than I did.

I wanted to enjoy this as much as I enjoyed THE WIFE BETWEEN US, but this fell a little short for me. I'm not sure what it was, whether it be the narration or the overall plot, but I couldn't get into the story. I found the characters so... drab and monotonous and rather whiny.

I was thrilled to have received this advanced copy and completely devoured it. Suspense abounds, characters are flawed and narrators are completely unreliable making this one incredible psychological thriller. This will be a huge 2022 hit!

I enjoyed this. I didn’t think it was as strong as other books by this duo because for me, it dragged a bit in the middle. However, I would still recommend it.

Told in the pov of Avery, a therapist who has had her license taken away, as well as Marissa who has come to Avery for help in her marriag to Matthew, this was an intriguing read.. This story was one I've been looking forward to and it didn't disappoint. I find myself unable to figure out books by this author and in this case, there were a few moments that I thought the big reveal was coming and then it just didn't....until it did and my jaw fell open a little bit! I really loved the pace of the story and the mystery of it all. I quite enjoyed Avery's character and am hoping to see her again in another novel. The pages turned quickly and overall this was a great suspenseful drama. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
