This is a fun armchair travel book. The author has collected a lot of unusual art experiences around the world. There is a lot information and you will want to visit every one. Enjoy
Just in case you need to add over 400 more things to your travel bucket list, here's this book. Zappaterra gives us her picks for art related travel destinations from all over the world that aren't all the usual museums and galleries. While we don't get extensive info on each location, we get enough to tempt us, and I really do want to visit every place listed. I do wish the publisher had provided a photo for each spot; that's the only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star book. Still, worth having for any art lover and/or armchair traveler!

I received an electronic copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, this book wasn't what I expected. The author travels the globe and gives little blurbs about amazing art you can see when visiting similar places. Most blurbs about the artwork include a triangle which points in the direction of a picture of the work its describing. Some works she describes unfortunately do not include a picture. This is a great way to travel around the continents during the time of Covid. It appears there is only one picture for each described art work, so you can only see it from the one captured angle. I think this would make a really cool huge coffee table book. As an e-book, it is difficult to read on a phone. You would need a tablet or PC screen to fit the entire page on the screen. I think this book would be best enjoyed in print form with glossy pictures.
Amazing Art adventures is a wonderful art book that will immerse you in 400 varied art experiences from all over the world. It is aimed at travellers and art lovers and will definitely draw you in with its stunning photographs and informative descriptions. The book is organised by continents and the Amazing Art selection is unforgettable and inspirational. Some of the Art is not very well known but you will be adding it to your bucket list of places to visit. This is a captivating book and a journey of discovery with details on artists, culture, history, environments, and relevant websites, an all over immersive experience. This would make a beautiful gift book and a must for your own coffee table.
I finished Amazing Art Adventures in three days, give or take. These topics and I, we mix a lot, and I was curious to see what Yolanda Zappaterra had in store for us. Her book promised me a full immersion in all things art, with a touch of culture and awareness, highlighting important subjects such as climate change and past artifacts appropriation.
A perfect mix. Let’s see how it went.

Cover: Uh. I’m not that impressed? Blame my predilection for fine art, I guess. One day I’ll try to analyze why (almost) everything that steers from Aristotle’s theory of art leaves me meh.
Not today, tho.
Yay!
- Amazing Art Adventures does indeed feature a lot of amazing art. Zappaterra put together a comprehensive book featuring a lot of different installments, museums, and exhibitions. Doubling down as a travel guide, it touches every continent and showcases many of the best art pieces worldwide.
- Every section talks about a different place–as I said, it’s divided by continent–and the small blurbs structure is ideal for a compact book, one that’s easy to carry around and browse on the go. I also like the fact that Zappaterra chose lesser known locations. As much as I love the British Museum, finding it featured in every travel guide under the sun kinda waters down the excitement, I mean.
- My Kindle doesn’t do real justice to some pictures, I’m afraid, because I found a few that are spectacular. A couple of times I got lost in the details.
Special mention:
- Erawan Museum, Thailand. The decorations are sublime.
- Itchiku Kabota Art Museum, Japan. I love it because it mixes art and nature.
- The Sumida Hosukai Museum, Japan. I had the chance to see some of his works a couple of years ago. Awesome doesn’t even begin to cover it.
- Fushimi Inari-Taisha shrine, Japan. The colors!
- Vank Cathedral, Iran. Frescoes, I can’t resist frescoes.
- Church of Saint George, Ethiopia. Monolithic cave church, I mean.
- The Statues of Bratislava, Slovakia. Awww.
- Brancacci Chapel, Italy. Fine art, remember?
- Ghent Altarpiece, Belgium. Jan Van Eyck is one of my favorite painters.
- Plaza Botero, Colombia. The statues and the Municipal Palace.
- Museum of Glass, USA. So interesting!
Nay!
- The format. The format makes me despair, because on average, there are two pictures per page vs a lot of blurbs without pictures. I mean, we’re talking about artistic installations, museums, and exhibitions here. A mere description is not gonna cut it, it only deprives me of half the experience I was hoping to get. For this very reason, I’m disappointed.
TL;DR
3 stars on GR.
A book that anyone who enjoys art and travelling will be glad to read it. It presents art from around the world in different forms some traditional and some not so traditional. I loved to travel around the world through this book and discover new forms of art.

3.5 stars rounded up.
Amazing Art Adventures provides an overview of 400 arty experiences from around the world. The book is divided into sections by continent and includes locations in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, though the largest section by far is Europe. Each page of the book has a couple different locations, some with accompanying photos and some without. I do wish that more of the locations had images included. As I was reading I found that I read the full captions for the locations with photos and skimmed the ones without, so I wish there had been more photos.
I was pleasantly surprised at how many of the U.S. and European locations I have been to. It made me feel cultured and well traveled. There were a couple place I’ve been, like The Vigeland Park in Oslo, that I was surprised did not make the cut. I was thrilled to see that the Spiral Jetty received a page unto itself (I’m a Utah girl and live a couple hours from the jetty). The book added a couple places like the Rothko Chapel in Houston to my bucket list and reiterated my need to visit a few places like the Picasso Museum in Malaga. Overall the book would be a fun coffee table book, but it would be extremely difficult to plan a vacation with it as your guide.

I was sent an ARC in exchange of my honest and independent opinion on this book.
What a beautifully curated collection of art across the globe. Perfect coffee table coection and a must for anyone who enjoys art. Such fun bits and facts and spectacular pictures. Stuck in this quarantine , reading this felt like I tour a vacation around the globe. So refreshing and extremely informative
As someone who has planned whole travel itineraries around visiting art museums I thought this book would be perfect for me. The book is divided into sections by continent and readily admits that it mixes traditional museums with art in unusual places. With over 400 entries it is a nice resource for different types and styles of art. Most places get a photo and a small blurb that mentions a highlight or two. It is easily readable and I the art spotlighted is interesting to learn about.
I focussed my attention on North America and Europe as I've traveled extensively on those continents. Happily I've visited almost 30 of the art sites (museums, galleries, etc.) listed in the USA and over 30 in Europe. The photos are pretty and I enjoyed looking for art that I've seen or locations I've been to for museums I may have missed.
This is a fun book to look through and add ideas to your art bucket list, but it isn't organized well to be a travel resource or guide. The Trail for Georgia O'Keeffe is great if you are visiting New Mexico, but the Picasso Trail requires visiting two continents and five countries. I did read through the entire book and look forward to future places to visit art when travel becomes easier again.
I like the idea for this book and it would be a nice gift for the an art and travel lover. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-White Lion for a temporary ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Perfect book to use when planning itineraries to include some art treasures and sculptures on your travels around the world. Some familiar locations and galleries but also some lesser known and possibly more likely to get missed. Well researched and I have actually been to a few of the authors choices, lots more on my list now. If you like art and travel then you will love this book and refer to it for years to come. Thank you #NetGalley for the copy to review.
