I actually read this book quite some time ago as I always read Christine Bauer as soon as it come out, so was surprised that I hadn't reviewed it.
As always we are thrown into a world where ghouls mix with medieval knights and demons - with tails that have their own sub brains, are there too. Funnily enough, I was talking this week with a friend about how useful prehensile tails would be, and certainly Myra find hers very useful, Less than a tail without a spade end though as it can't sub for a hand. This storyline keeps on giving and if, as I have had, you've read them all, plus the children's stories, then you're in for another treat.
I'm not sure how Christina Bauer manages to keep all of her series stories moving forward and keeping readers addicted to each new character but I'll keep reading them as long as she keeps writing them.
Great book as always I am never let down when I read one of Ms. Bauer’s books. I would definitely recommend reading it.
Bauer has done it again with a captivating, heart-racing fantasy with unforgettable characters. Myla and Lincoln make such a great team, and this time they're facing down something that threatens their work to restore balance to their world. Without the igni, souls that are meant to can't ascend to heaven. The weaving in of steampunk elements was smooth, and made for a unique and interesting twist. The story moves along at a fairly quick pace, and there's never a dull moment. Cannot recommend enough for anyone looking for a fun new fantasy with a twist. Definitely read the earlier books in the series if you'd like to get to know Myla and Lincoln better.
I have to be honest, I am not usually a fan of books where kids are in danger. It is just not my thing. So let me give fair warning, young Maxon is in danger in this book. BUT it’s actually totally cool that he is in danger…yeah I know I make no sense whatsoever (chuckle).
One must remember that this is a Christina Bauer book and therefore all rules are broken. (I am replaying the Scream rules scene in my head as I type this (chuckle).) Maxon’s inclusion in the mystery and adventure is an added benefit. I love watching Myla and Lincoln as parents. Maxon is so much like Myla and I get such a kick out of it.
The adventure mystery works for me in Clockwork Igni. I love the graphics and the figure behind the Clockwork Pyramid. If I was good at cosplay costumes, I’m telling you between this book and Lady Reaper I would be set for the next couple of years. Freaking love the outfit in this story.
The diabolical overthinking is really cool too. I got a kick out of the villain or villains because I’m not telling. Bauer keeps everything fresh and fun.
Clockwork Igni is the ninth book in the “Angelbound: Origins” series, but higher if you read the other series too and I haven’t lost interest. Bauer is that good. Never mind, I seriously have a crush on Myla. Now I mention the number of the book, but even if you have never read one before, I think you can get away without having read one before. Bauer is good at the recap.
We are going back in time in the future books so I will miss Myla and Lincoln. Hopefully, Bauer’s muse has more in store for my girl as an adult because Myla’s sass is so much better with age (chuckle).
There is no way that Myla's adventures could get any better. OR is there??? I have to say that after just the first few chapters I got a good dose of Myla's reality and a world still full of action and adventure. Myla's has a darn good new battle on her hands and her mad is a sight to behold. I love going on adventures with Myla and Lincoln.
There is not time like the present to jump on the action adventure fantasy with Myla, Queen of Antrum and a** kicking.
The world in which Christina has creating is the best thing about this series, my opinion.
Chroniker has imprisoned Diadem, also known as mother time, and it's up to Myla to rescue Diadem and right the wrongs. Maxon and his friends end up getting themselves involved in it all, which i found fun to read. Myla’s igni are stolen from her by Chroniker. Now they must race to stop Chroniker and retrieve Myla’s igni before it is too late.
Ok i am still not a great fan of Myla, i found her character to immature, but i understand that is to do with my age and not the author. These books are great for YA's. I love the side characters more that Myla in this series, i will continue to read these books as i love the world and can tolerate Myla.
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!
Clockwork Igni (Book 9 of the Angelbound Origin Series) - Christina Bauer
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher in order to provide a review.
Christina Bauer is an American author who writes many fantasy stories. Besides the “Angelbound Offspring” series she has also written the “Pixieland Diaries” and the “Beholder” series plus many more.
“Clockwork Igni” follows the story of Myla the great Scala Heir and Lincoln her husband, and the King.
They have managed to free the ghosts from purgatory and are freeing the souls wrongly sent to hell, guiding them to heaven.
Yet there are forces that are working against them, ancient and evil. This ancient evil has a name – Chroniker. Chroniker has imprisoned Diadem, also known as mother time, and it's up to Myla to rescue Diadem and put a stop to Chroniker’s evil plans.
But that is easier said than done when their son Maxon and his friends end up getting themselves involved in it all.
And to make matters worse, Myla’s igni are stolen from her by Chroniker. Now they must race to stop Chroniker and retrieve Myla’s igni before it is too late.
“Clockwork Igni” is a short paranormal meets science fiction story that would appeal to young adults. The story wasn’t a pleasant read but wasn’t a favourite by far. Story was too short for my liking and the plot wasn’t intricate enough and the characters needed a more developed story arc. Just needed to be more engaging, but if you wanted a quick read where you really didn’t have to think too hard then this will work for you.
Another fulfilling story in the Lincoln's & Myla world. However, we are treated with memories of Myla in purgatory as well as watching Maxson want to be like his parents and practice swords Etc.
Christina has an amazing imagination and is so skilled in World building with snarky characters sarcasm and all the aspects that you look for in an excellent series. The bond between Lincoln and Myla continues to grow with the inclusion of their son, Maxon.
Just like the other one... Great. Author can really tell a story. Still didn't enjoy the cover art though. I find that to be an important part when trying to catch new eyes.
Another action packed adventure from our heroes Myla and Lincoln, with an explosive addition: Heir to Scala and son of our favorite couple Maxon.
On this occasion, Myla must fulfill a promise that she made when she was 11 years old: rescue Diadem, aka Mother Time. As a super special bonus for Myla fans, in this book Miss Bauer gives us episodes from her childhood in Purgatory.
Christmas came in October for Christina Bauer readers!
Really enjoyed this read! Although I've only read Angelbound and now the 9th in the series, I definitely will go back and read the others. Love the characters! The story is total fun! Thanks #netgalley and #MonsterHouseBooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
I love this world that Christina Bauer has created for the Angelbound world. I have to say that my favorite book out of all the Angelbound books is definitely the first book in the Angelbound Origins series, Angelbound as I loved getting to know Myla, Lincoln, and their world for the first time. Oh wait, I can’t leave out Myla’s tail as you got to respect the tail as it sure does have a mind of its own.
Now, after saying all of that I will have to admit I do believe that Clockwork Igni would be my next favorite. In Clockwork Igni I loved getting more of Myla’s background and seeing her as a child once again.
I really liked seeing Maxon and his friends playing with their swords and wanting to follow in his parent's footsteps. Maxon was so adorable in Clockwork Igni. He was fierce and strong, making any parent proud but protective at the same time.
Myla gets real pissed when her precious Igni is taken from her. It is on now buddy and if anyone gets in her way while she is looking for her little buddies, oh, I fear for their souls cause Myla is one tough cookie who is a kick-butt asks questions later kind of girl. Believe me, you do not want to get in her way. If you do you will be sorry, trust me.
Oh and she has one bada** husband, she also has her tail on her side. The tail can be very dangerous indeed. Her husband is one mean, green, killing machine. Never underestimate the love a parent has for their child.
I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the Angelbound Origins series, book number ten, Lady Reaper. Oh, just the name draws you in. Oh, what could it entail? What is waiting for us in the next chapter of Myla’s world? (Doing happy dance while squealing over here)
Now the time has come for you to one-click your copy of this amazing book Clockwork Igni today for another awesome adventure in the Angelbound world! Be sure and check out the rest of the books in the Angelbound Origins series! While you are at it check out the rest of Christina Bauer’s books. I highly recommend all of them!!
Myla is the Queen of Antrum, yet she still doesn’t like to do queenly things. She sits through meetings and performances, but she would prefer to be in the action. She has been told about a discovery in a cavern but it is just background noise to everything else she is thinking about. That is until the Forbidden Tombs become a part of Purgatory and Myla’s igni rush away from her. Through all this chaos, Myla and Lincoln are also dealing with their son, Maxon, trying to assert his independence. How will they handle it all?
Clockwork Igni is the ninth book in the Angelbound Origins series. Most of these origin books have been about other characters with Myla and Lincoln having brief appearances. I enjoyed learning more about this crazy couple and their firstborn. This is a very short book that can easily be read in one sitting, yet the ending is extremely satisfying without leaving the reader breathless. I love the world-building that Bauer has completed and can’t wait for more novels in this universe.
I was granted eARC access to Clockwork Igni as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with XPresso Book Tours. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
Just like every other Christina Bauer book I've read, Clockwork Igni does a great job of capturing and conveying the mind of young and young-at-heart characters who are headstrong, optimistic, and an almost impossible balance of wisened by experience but also still so naive. I love it! Bauer's female leads have become a benchmark for me that I use to compare other YA characters and writing to. This particular book provides the interesting opportunity to read the same character at two different life stages on the same page and I love the way that's handled.
I love the way this series makes so much use of familiar mythology and religious symbolism, but always manages to blend it with brand new elements and transform it into something unique that builds the Angelbound world. The igni, "the little supernatural lightning bolts that move souls to heaven," are such a fascinating piece of worldbuilding, and to suddenly have them all disappear? Yup, you have my attention! That's a big problem! What's Myla going to do to resolve it?
Although I've read and reviewed quite a few of Bauer's books at this point, I'll admit the majority have not been Angelbound books yet. I'm not completely up to date on this series. There is definitely a lot of reference to past events and inter-character relationships that let me know I was definitely not reading a first book, neither for Origins nor the entire Angelbound universe, but it was still an enjoyable experience and I didn't feel lost. Fear not, I do have the titles I haven't read yet and I do intend to read them, but I thought I'd note that this book can be read out of order.
Overall this is a fun, easy read and I really loved Myla as a character. If you love YA Fantasy, great book and series. If you've enjoyed Bauer's other books and this is your chance to get in on the Angelbound books, you can start here if you choose though I would recommend starting with book one. If you're up to date on Origins, get in here! The story continues and it's a lot of fun!
The ninth book in this series about Myla and Lincoln is another wild ride. The Forbidden Tombs burst through the ground in Purgatory and bronze pyramids smash through abandoned buildings and highways. Even worse, the metal structures attract tiny lightning bolts called igni, Myla's supernatural buddies. Within minutes, every last igni gets stolen away. Now Myla has to save them and figure out the mystery.....
Myla and Lincoln are fantastic of course. :) Myla is always one of my favorites with her humour and bad ass attitude. It's amazing to see how far both of them has come since book one. Looking forward to more exciting adventure with this couple.
Thanks to the publisher for providing this arc.
