The sheer adorable-ness of this book is unmatched. The banter? the sass? the way I am going to be craving cupcakes for the next 4 months.
An adorable sweet, incredibly well written and overall incredible rom-com. The way each character is fleshed out, I felt like I connected with both them so personally and watching them fall in love? TOO PRECIOUS.
I cannot wait to get my hands on a solid copy
This book had a lot of my favorite tropes and plot additions: fake dating, enemies to lovers, food-related, set in a cupcake shop—what more could you need? However, the story, unfortunately, fell flat for me. The third-person dual POV made it hard to connect with either character, and the slow pacing meant that not much really happened at the beginning of the book. I ultimately DNFed at ~30% and the fake dating hadn't even started yet.
Fake It Till You Bake It is a sweet contemporary romance that highlights the dark side of reality tv. Jada Townsend-Matthews was the winner of a bachelor type tv show but when she got her proposal she shot down the star bachelor. Everyone seems to hate her between social media and the fans that have the nerve to get in her face. Donovan Dell is one of three professional footballers that run the Sugar Blitz bakery. Working because she needs to prove herself to her grandmother, Jada finds her groove planning events and serving cupcakes. And if saving face means faking a relationship with the hot Donovan, Jada isn’t above that either. A nice, dependable guy and a “bougy ” little rich girl find love over cupcakes in this fake relationship to true love romance that is a feel good delight as sweet as the cupcakes in the cupcake shop. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.
A warm and fuzzy read. This was a sweet rom-com with one of my favorite tropes (fake dating!).
The main characters both saw character growth over the course of the book, especially Jada. I always appreciate when a book is about more than just falling in love, and over the course of the story Jada was able to find more of a sense of purpose in her life and start deciding what it is she actually wants.
It's so great to have more romance books centered around POC, and parts of this book seemed to hint at future sequels centered around the main character's friends, so I hope there are more to come!
A fluffy romance about a pro football player, a reality show star, and a sweet little bakery with cupcakes galore. What else do I need to say?
PROS: Let's start here. Great representation and diversity. Tropes galore: fake dating, enemies to lovers, love triangle. I loved the side characters and they really carried the story. Ending was great.
CONS: I never really felt the chemistry between the two main characters and couldn't connect with them. Transition to steamy scenes is abrupt and awkward. And it is a sloooowww burn.
Overall, I wasn't quite feeling it, but I will say that I've been in a rut of 3-star reads.
I wanted to like this book but didn’t. It was kind of cheesey. It went back and forth too much and didn’t have much of a plot I enjoyed. It needed more substance.
A really great story, charming, atmospheric, great characters. Filled me with warmth and spirit. Well written and flowed nicely, was romantic and funny, charming and full of fun. A great read, i really enjoyed it.
“I should have told you that I love you, and I’ll go to the ends of the earth for you.”
Omg this book! Don’t walk, run when it drops!!
This book has fake dating, and it was done in a way that I could feel Donovan & Jada’s chemistry from miles away! Their banter is amazing and so funny!! I loved the character development so much for both of them but specially Jada, she went from being kind of like a damsel in distress, not knowing things from the real world to becoming a strong woman and business owner. I loved the side characters also, Donovan’s friends were so funny and interesting.
I am a #JaDon fan

I finished this a few days ago but I'm now just writing the review. A few days ago, I probably would have put this as 4 stars but now as i think about it I'm changing it to 5 stars. I genuinely loved this book. I loved the characters, and the cover is so beautiful.
I thought this book was a cup half full. Slow in the beginning but did pickup in the end. Overall, it was an okay read.
Meet cute AND cupcakes? Yes, please!
I completely enjoyed this book - the characters were fun. The story line was predictable, until it wasn't!!! ha I was introduced to rom-coms a only few years ago, and I can't seem to get enough since. Fake It Till You Bake It will not disappoint!
The smell of vanilla and confectionary sugary goodness permeated the air has he put the finishing touches on his newest creations. They were literal sweet masterpieces ready to hit the display case. Customers weren’t going to be able to resist them. The colorful sprinkles sparkled in the overhead lighting as he slid each decadent cupcake into its rightful place. He wiped his hands on his flour-covered apron and waited for the first customers of the day to flood his shop. When the bell jingled signaling patron number one, he glanced up with a welcoming smile… except this customer made him do anything but smile. Not her again.
Fake It Til You Bake It is a cute romance with professional football star, Donovan, and reality tv show’s most hated bachelorette, Jada, coming together in San Diego’s hottest cupcake shop. These two make an unlikely pair, but reality sticks them together anyway.
An enemies to lovers turned fake dating, this book is sure to make you smile and of course… crave some cupcakes. Make sure to grab a copy if any of the above sounds delicious to you!
Firstly I want to thank St. Martin’s Press and netGalleg for proving me with an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Donovan Dell is a football player for the San Diego Knights who also runs his own cupcake business on the side called Sugar Blitz. Jada Townsend- Matthews is a reality television star notorious for publicly declining the proposal of a man who we can describe as a The Bachelor type star. When an unruly situation between the two of them where Jada ends up insulting Donovan’s cupcake shop, they end up finding themselves in a situation where Jada ends up having to work under Donovan. He is reserved, collected, sticks to a plan while Jada is impulsive, not quite sure of herself but extremely extroverted and not afraid to speak their mind. I loved the dynamic between the both of them and how much they contrast from each other but I think that’s why this novel and their relationship worked so well for me.
In this romcom novel you will find
-sorta enemies to lovers
-fake dating
-required public appearances
-constant banter
-family dynamics
-cupcakes, cupcakes and did i mention cupcakes ?
-dyslexia rep
Fake It Till You Bake It has an adorable premise but it ended up just being a solidly okay read for me. The characters felt one note and weren't as fleshed out as I hoped. The story itself, while cute, felt very predictable and drew no emotion from me personally.
I think the biggest problem for me in this book was Jada. She was so extremely unlikable and came off as incredibly entitled. "My parents cut me off and won't pay my credit cards!" Grow up! You are 25! Get a freaking job! Her "speaking her mind" is meant to show that she's genuine and refreshing but comes off as very rude. She does grow some during the book but it felt pretty formulaic and not organic. Donovan, on the other hand, was a character I enjoyed reading about. He was quiet, kind, and caring. As a couple, I liked them together. They had sweet and spicy banter going on and balanced each other pretty well.
The most interesting part of this book were Donovan's coworkers. I'm assuming the next books this author writes will be about them, and I would give those books a shot in hopes that I connect with the characters more.
Fake It Till You Bake It wasn't a perfect fit for me, but if you are in the mood for a low angst, straightforward rom-com, give it a shot.
Thank you to NetGalley for the digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed how Donovan was a football player who enjoyed baking. It was nice add twist. But I overall I thought the book was little boring. Thank you for the arc!
Football player bakers and the fallout of life after a Bachelor-ish reality TV show, what's not to like? Great chemistry from the first meet cute made this a fun, quick read perfect for decompressing after work!
What a story of Jade and Donovan! A delightful story of figuring out who we are and finding someone who loves us as we do. Easy, engaging read. I love the elements of family dynamics, sports, and baking. I reccomend!
This was a fun and charming romance! Jada is a woman trying to get her life back on track after a stint on a reality dating show that didn't end as planned. Donovan is a football player/ bakery store owner trying to run his business and keep his life in strict order. Sparks fly when they meet and end up in a fake dating scheme to solve both their problems.
I liked both main characters, especially Jada, who was fierce and charming, but flawed and relatable. Despite the dual POVs, I felt like Donovan wasn't as fully fleshed out as he could have been but I did love the fact that he was caring and communicative. He wasn't the bro-y alpha jock I might have expected going into the story.
Overall, this was a great romance, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes sweet and sugary love stories.
I enjoyed this book. I love that it was a book that looked at black love. I love that this book had that kind of diversity. The couple was also really cute. It was such an easy! I recommend this book. ARC kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange

I was able to read an early copy of "Fake It Till You Bake It" by Jamie Wesley on NetGalley. I was instantly drawn into the love story of Jada and Donovan. The story is sweet (doubly sweet by the majority of it taking place in a cupcake store) and had everything you expect a romance novel to have. There was strife, attraction, conflict and love. I would recommend this book and can't wait for the next one. The cliffhanger at the end of the book gives a hint at the next love story!
