A reality star and a cupcake-baking football player pretend to be a couple in order to save his bakery in this sweet and sexy romance from Jamie Wesley, Fake It Till You Bake It.
Jada Townsend-Matthews is the most reviled woman in America after turning down a proposal on a reality dating show. When she comes home to lick her wounds, Jada finds herself working at San Diego's newest cupcake bakery, Sugar Blitz, alongside the uptight owner and professional football player Donovan Dell.
When a reporter mistakenly believes Jada and Donovan are an item, they realize they can use the misunderstanding to their advantage to help the struggling bakery and rehabilitate Jada's image. Faking a relationship should be simple, but sometimes love is the most unexpected ingredient.

A really great story, charming, atmospheric, great characters. Filled me with warmth and spirit. Well written and flowed nicely, was romantic and funny, charming and full of fun. A great read, i really enjoyed it.
“I should have told you that I love you, and I’ll go to the ends of the earth for you.”
Omg this book! Don’t walk, run when it drops!!
This book has fake dating, and it was done in a way that I could feel Donovan & Jada’s chemistry from miles away! Their banter is amazing and so funny!! I loved the character development so much for both of them but specially Jada, she went from being kind of like a damsel in distress, not knowing things from the real world to becoming a strong woman and business owner. I loved the side characters also, Donovan’s friends were so funny and interesting.
I am a #JaDon fan
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me an ARC in exchange of my honest opinion.
Meet cute AND cupcakes? Yes, please!
I completely enjoyed this book - the characters were fun. The story line was predictable, until it wasn't!!! ha I was introduced to rom-coms a only few years ago, and I can't seem to get enough since. Fake It Till You Bake It will not disappoint!
The smell of vanilla and confectionary sugary goodness permeated the air has he put the finishing touches on his newest creations. They were literal sweet masterpieces ready to hit the display case. Customers weren’t going to be able to resist them. The colorful sprinkles sparkled in the overhead lighting as he slid each decadent cupcake into its rightful place. He wiped his hands on his flour-covered apron and waited for the first customers of the day to flood his shop. When the bell jingled signaling patron number one, he glanced up with a welcoming smile… except this customer made him do anything but smile. Not her again.
Fake It Til You Bake It is a cute romance with professional football star, Donovan, and reality tv show’s most hated bachelorette, Jada, coming together in San Diego’s hottest cupcake shop. These two make an unlikely pair, but reality sticks them together anyway.
An enemies to lovers turned fake dating, this book is sure to make you smile and of course… crave some cupcakes. Make sure to grab a copy if any of the above sounds delicious to you!
Firstly I want to thank St. Martin’s Press and netGalleg for proving me with an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Donovan Dell is a football player for the San Diego Knights who also runs his own cupcake business on the side called Sugar Blitz. Jada Townsend- Matthews is a reality television star notorious for publicly declining the proposal of a man who we can describe as a The Bachelor type star. When an unruly situation between the two of them where Jada ends up insulting Donovan’s cupcake shop, they end up finding themselves in a situation where Jada ends up having to work under Donovan. He is reserved, collected, sticks to a plan while Jada is impulsive, not quite sure of herself but extremely extroverted and not afraid to speak their mind. I loved the dynamic between the both of them and how much they contrast from each other but I think that’s why this novel and their relationship worked so well for me.
In this romcom novel you will find
-sorta enemies to lovers
-fake dating
-required public appearances
-constant banter
-family dynamics
-cupcakes, cupcakes and did i mention cupcakes ?
-dyslexia rep
What a story of Jade and Donovan! A delightful story of figuring out who we are and finding someone who loves us as we do. Easy, engaging read. I love the elements of family dynamics, sports, and baking. I reccomend!
I was able to read an early copy of "Fake It Till You Bake It" by Jamie Wesley on NetGalley. I was instantly drawn into the love story of Jada and Donovan. The story is sweet (doubly sweet by the majority of it taking place in a cupcake store) and had everything you expect a romance novel to have. There was strife, attraction, conflict and love. I would recommend this book and can't wait for the next one. The cliffhanger at the end of the book gives a hint at the next love story!
This book was so sweet (baking pun absolutely intended)!!
Though it has a bit of a slow start, this book ends up being such a fun read with beloved tropes (read as: fake dating), good theming and representation, and a plot that didn't feel as cliche as most romcoms/contemporary romances do (but hey, we love cliches in contemporary romances, don't get me wrong). It was light and it provided great insight into media treatment while still keeping the heart.
I had a good time reading this book! Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for providing me with an eARC!

This is such a lovely book that I just could not get enough of!💗 Going right in, this story follows a young woman named Jada, who recently was swept away in a midst of drama - after turning down a proposal on a hit reality tv show. Jada soon finds herself working at a new cupcake bakery in town, Sugar Blitz, run by the professional football player Donovan Dell
What I adored about this book:
-fake dating trope??! Hello such a classic, I loveeee
-the chemistry between Donovan and Jada <33
-character growth and development !!!!!
-funny side characters
-descriptions of cupcakes Bc it made my hungry the whole time 🤨
-also the GORGEOUS coverrrr omg
I can’t recommend this super sweet romance enough. 🧁 you all should mark your calendars because the release date is JUNE 21st ‼️
A reality TV villain and a football star turned bakery owner collide in this romance that’s full of tropes but finishes with an unexpected twist. The icing on the cupcake is that communication between these two is top notch. The couple starts fake dating to rehabilitate Jada’s villain image while using her fame to draw more people to the failing bakery. The start of a series, the next book will surely be a confectionery treat!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the ARC copy of “Fake It Till You Bake It”. I devoured this book so fast it isn’t even funny. I loved it so much. I will say I was a little hesitant at first with the introduction of our FMC Jada. I was put off due to what she initially says and her negativity towards the Business she goes into with her friend where she happens to be overheard by Donovan the business owner. BUT I will say after the first scene with Donovan when she leaves the Bakery with her friend I start to learn more about her and really start to love her. I feel the growth she has in the book makes up for the first impression I initially get from her from Donovan’s POV. Overall I loved all the tropes this book had. Even the fake dating, which that’s not usually one that I tend to gravitate to all the time! I rate it 4.5 start and am rounding it up to 5 for good read and Amazon rating purposes. I can’t wait to see if there is a second, which I am going to assume there is because I need a story for August, Nicholas and Olivia because I’m not ready to leave this version of San Diego.
The title and the cover art drew me to this book, and I’m so happy I heeded their call. The story opens in the California cupcake shop that serves as main backdrop for most of the book’s action, where the main characters Jada and Donovan have a sort of “meet hostile” situation. The author does a great job of quickly setting up the circumstances that lead to the fake relationship the title describes. Lots of funny and sweet moments follow as our main characters interact. It is a bit of a slow burn, but when the heat comes it is well worth the wait.
If you like black rom coms, fake relationships, and grumpy / sunshine you will love this book.
