Capitalizing on social media’s influence, both the positive and negative aspects, Fake It Till You Bake It is an easy to read rom com. Jada and Donovan briefly meet, but it is with disdain, as neither likes the other. However, their paths cross again less than 24 hours later, and that is when the fun really begins. Seemingly mismatched, the two frequently bicker yet also have a growing physical attraction to one another. When an opportunity presents itself to become a fake couple and manipulate social media to each individual’s advantage, they both actively participate, and fireworks ensue.
Mostly predictable as far as romances go, it also includes a few twists towards the end that enhance the story and allow the characters to grow. The story also ends with a small cliffhanger, setting up another book, which I look forward to reading. The characters were likable, so a follow-up and update on their lives should be fun.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I wanted to like this one but it fell flat for me. You could honestly change the names of the main characters and do one or two tweaks and the book could be about anybody. It’s very generic albeit readable.
I did like the inclusion of Jada’s dyslexia and would have loved to see more about that.
This is a lighthearted pool, beach or car/plane read. A few laughs and very little sex. I see fans of Jasmine Guillory really enjoying this book.
I really loved the synopsis of this book and I was so excited to start reading it, but I couldn’t get past the fact that it was in third person pov. It was really good but I couldn’t finish it because of the point of view.
I love love loved this book. It was such a cute funny romance starring two Black characters. If you're going into this looking for a lot of spice, calm down. There's one scene that fits the bill, but trust me when I say it was very hot. For the most part though, this is a wholesome little baking romance, but it worked! Watching Donovan and Jada fall in love made my heart swoon multiple times, especially when they were hell bent on acting like they didn't have feelings for one another. I would definitely recommend this to every romance reader.
This is cute! I primarily read thrillers with the occasional romance novel since I find so many of them to repetitive but this one felt fresh and fun. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a light, entertaining, and quick read. Perfect vacation book!
cute premise, mediocre execution. did not really do anything for me, though i thought that the baking elements were nice!! didn love the romance, i didnt feel like they had much chemistry.
This book is really adorable. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something to get them out of a reading rut.
I really enjoyed this book!
I thought the characters were a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed the banter.
I thought this was a fun and refreshing read!
From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.
I enjoyed this book. This book delivers several rom-com tropes like fake dating and opposites attract, which do not dissapoint. This was a lighthearted romance centered around baking and cupcakes and it got me back out of my romance reading slump. , I enjoyed the banter between Jada and Donovan. I liked that we got to see them form a connection and support each other. I did want a little more from their romance, but it was still a sweet, fun story. I'd give it 3.5 stars overall.
"Even if she thought about the kiss a million times today. She and Donovan were faking. The beginning, the middle, the end."

Fake It Till You Bake It tells the story of Jada and Donovan. When Jada returns home after turning down a proposal on a reality tv show, she doesn't expect to find herself working in a cupcake shop owned by professional football stars. And when the media finds out, mistakenly assuming her and one of the owners are an item, they surprisingly both go along with it. Hoping to restore Jada's image, and bring in more business to Donovan's struggling bakery. But it doesn't take long for this fake relationship to turn into more...
This story started strong for me. I was pulled in by the instant banter and hidden attraction. These two were fun to watch transition from being enemies of a sort, to becoming work colleagues, to then suddenly fake dating. And that slow burn transition to more, was filled with heart, humor and chemistry. That eventually led to one sizzling steamy scene. But somewhere along the way it lost a bit of my attention. It started to feel a bit choppy and underdeveloped in the end. I never felt we truly seen Jada's growth. Or got to really know Donovan. I mean he's an athlete and even in the off season, would have a regimen and obligations right? I missed feeling their connection in the end.
Overall though, Jada brought a spark to that shop and Donovan's life that they both needed, and I liked that.
*I received an ARC from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and given freely.
On June 21,2022 this book will be published, "Fake it til you Bake It". Please make sure to give this book a read! Best romance I have read this year! Donavan and Jada meet at his cupcake bakery and it is not the best meeting but things slowly heat up! cyber space and social media give them a run for their relationship to work. Humorous and dramatic. You will love it! Don't miss out!
I loved this book! I was hooked from the first chapter. Cupcakes and sexy football players, I mean it cannot get any better than that. This book truly had everything I wanted in a romance book. Jada was a very likeable character (even though she was bougie). I loved that it wasn't just the expected ending to the book. With the cliffhanger at the end, I can't wait to read the next 2 books I expect to see in this series. Thank you NetGallery for the arc.
The title, the cover, and the plot summary, all made me so excited to read this. Books with baking are some of my favorites in spite of all the cravings they produce. This story is centered around Donovan a football player who is a part owner of a cupcake business with partners and team mates Nicholas and August. Donovan’s practical and methodical side, and nice personality meant I immediately liked his character. Opposites attract, and Jada and Donovan are opposites. Jada is more of a free spirit but they have some great chemistry and the dialog is just perfect. Ultimately Jada and Donovan bring out the best in each other and make each other a better version of themselves. If you are looking for a fake dating romance, this one has includes, diverse characters, a slow burn, good banter, and cupcakes.
Thank you Netgalley and St Martin’s Griffn the the arc. I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Jada Townsend-Matthews comes from a family of very logical (and genius-level) scientists, of which she is decidedly not. Jada has dyslexia and her struggles were often ignored and belittled by her parents. Luckily, she has a loving and determined grandmother, also known as Grams, who just happens to be the owner of a professional football team. After turning down a marriage proposal on the reality TV show, My One and Only, Jada finds herself beloved by many (but also at the mercy of the internet trolls). Grams sets up a job for her at a cupcakery called Sugar Blitz, owned by 3 of her current players...a place that Jada had visited only the day before and somewhat unintentionally insulted the business in front of one of those owners, Donovan Dell.
Donovan lives his live in an orderly fashion. He plans, and plans, and plans some more. He did not plan on Jada. She breathes life into the bakery in a way that he didn't predict and also awakens something within him. The two have a great banter and quickly find they can't imagine life without the other.
I really enjoyed getting to know Jada and Donovan and absolutely found myself laughing out loud while reading. It also seems as though Jamie Wesley is setting us up for a series within the Sugar Blitz world and I, for one, will certainly dive back in.
Jamie Wesley has written a beautiful, funny, relatable novel with a fun story and realistic characters. I connected with the story, most of the characters despite not being in their socio economic status. They were all funny but real characters. Jada was a true 20 something trying to find her own way in the world and flubbing it up at what seemed like every turn. And her grandma is a spitfire for sure. The parents are beyond relatable and the storyline is something that is literally out of a tv show.
Read the story of Jada, her grandma and the cupcake shop owning football player and you will be both laughing, cheering the romance on and wishing the villains a big fall from grace in Fake it Til you Bake It. But you'll have to read to find out who falls for who, who the villains are and who really is behind it all in this seasons best baking sports rom-com!
Thank you for this advanced e book. Are you a fan of football, baking, or reality shows? Or any of these three? If so (and even if not), give Fake It Till You Bake It. Donovan is a NFL player who also owns a cupcake shop. Jada is the granddaughter of the NFL team’s owner and former dating show contestant. She’s trying to find her way career wise when her grandmother gets her a job working in Donovan’s shop. This sets up a “fake dating” storyline between Donovan and Jada. One thing I really liked is the way both lead characters show they are opposite of their stereotypes (example: Jada’s dyslexia, Donovan being a football player who likes to bake). This is a quick, fun read.
Fake relationship with a BIPOC couple and throw in NFL in all this? Okay all my favorite tropes!!!
The chemistry between Jada and Donovan is fantastic and who doesn't love to see someone go from grumpy to super in love? The support they had for each other was admirable. I enjoyed all of the supporting characters as well. Super funny and developed well.
I am excited to see more from this author!
How can anyone manage to unintentionally cause as much drama as Jada does? She's quirky and impulsive but we'll meaning and entertaining.

I love this set up. The h/H have a tense interaction before they are forced to be in close proximity for some time. Then you add in fake relationship, baking, Foyt all, and a meddling grandma and you hit a sweet spot.
I enjoyed this book it was an easy read without huge complications. It’s perfectly fine and a lot of people will love it. For me, it was just good.
