Great book which helped to inspire me to get back my health. Easy to understand ans better than a lot of other diet books on my shelf.
These are really good plant-based recipes and you can easily add meat to them if you want. I will definitely be making some of these recipes.
While not all these tenets will work for me (I don’t want to be vegan even temporarily & intermitten fasting doesn’t work for me. I need more than 1 or 2 meals a day) there’s plenty I found super helpful. One of the biggest aha moments for me was when they were talking about satiety. “Of course you will want more” like duh lightbulb moment!
The meal planning and recipes are wonderful. The book is very easy to follow and can be used for successful weight loss. It just wasn’t for me.
The Choose you Now Diet provides tips, recipes, and motivation to change your diet for the better in order to improve overall well being. This book and diet is not focused on counting calories, but rather, focusing on whole foods and ingredients. There are many helpful tips in this book to allow someone to actually learn what it means to eat healthy and not just count calories. This is a plant based diet, and therefore, will not work for everyone. However, if you are interested in a whole foods, plant based diet, this book will be extremely helpful for your personal journey. The recipes looked interesting and able to be implemented by a novice in the kitchen. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
Positive tips to encourage weight loss. Setting up smaller goals, finding your why, and various tips for helping get away from counting calories, and more on monitoring your meal volume. Eating more of the good while working on providing recipe ideas to break up the monotony. This book puts a focus on plant-based eating.
I had been plant-based for 2 years and had grown tired of the same meals over and over. One of the suggestions is to allow your palate to adjust to a new way of eating. It will take time.
My favorite tip- Don't break the seal. Meaning, when you take a small bite or taste of something, it opens you up to continue snacking or tasting more and more.
When it comes to the recipes, I love that the book doesn't start off with smoothies. This is the biggest annoyance I have with vegan/plant-based cookbooks. This book starts off with curry and chowder.
Another critique- I prefer it when recipe books include a picture for every recipe. I like to know what I should strive for with color and consistency. There are pictures for every 2-3 recipes. And luckily, a convenient index in the back!
The potato croutons are so creative.
I have been looking for a way to be more plant based and this book has been a wonderful addition in my search! Anyone looking for a way to better their eating behaviors, needs to read!

This was an interesting read and breaks down the plant based diet extremely well. One of the components that.I liked about this book is how it touches on the importance of overall health and how a diet does not need to be restrictive; this was a great read and I was even able to try some of the recipes - all thoroughly enjoyed by my hesitant family members to attempt to reduce their meat protein intake.
I will be buying a hard copy of this book
No - skip it.
While the knowledge chapters contained thought provoking information, it also contained some questionable information. If it was in there, I missed it - excess calories vs minimal energy output will always make you gain weight. It doesn't matter how many servings of kale & mushrooms you eat. If you eat more calories of those then the energy you expend, you will gain weight.
I don't like cookbooks/dietary books that would require me to purchases things I probably don't have access to and don't know if I would even like them. Last thing I need is another seasoning in the cupboard I don't like.
It just seemed like another person who thinks if you slap some kale on it - it's healthy. Always on the lookout for vegetarian recipes but am not really ready for vegan recipes. Unless someone is on the verge of going completely plant based, I don't think it's worth the money.
A revolutionary approach to permanent weight loss using a plant-based diet. Prefaced by a few chapters of explanation, the book also includes several recipes. This is an excellent resource for people who are genuinely interested in a plant-based diet. Dietary restrictions in my household prevent me from following this lifestyle, but otherwise I would definitely pursue it. The recipes are generally easy to follow with ingredients found in most grocery stores. The explanatory chapters contain good guidelines applicable to anyone seeking lifestyle changes and more mindful eating. #TheChooseYouNowDiet #NetGalley
Julieanna Hever’s new book, The Choose You Now Diet, includes 5 chapters covering her tips for lasting weight loss and 75 plant-based recipes. I enjoyed the author’s knowledge base of a whole-food, plant-based diet: one that’s focused on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs, and spices. However, Hever’s strategic time-restricted eating sounds cumbersome and I did not find many of the recipes to be ones that I was excited to try but there were were a few that peaked my interest.
Unfortunately I can't read this book due to adobe digital editions not working, and not having space for the netgalley app. I think it looks really interesting though, I like the cover, and the diet seems interesting to read about. I would check it out in the future if I see it somewhere..
I read this not as someone looking to lose weight, but as someone looking for fun new veggie recipes. Half the book is information about the plant based diet and how best to eat in order to lose weight. The rest of the book is recipes. Most recipes are fairly easy, but not simple. 3 stars because the recipes are not really inspiring.
Such amazing healthy recipes that are super easy to prepare. It might seem simple but finding recipes that are tasty and healthy can be hard so this is a great starter book for your new healthy journey
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for an ARC of this book. Decent looking recipes with photos with information on food. I didn't read this because I need to lose weight but because of healthy recipes, which it seems to have.
Julieanna Hever is a plant based dietician and has listed 10 key points to finally get off the diet roller coaster and have lasting weight loss and improved health, along with 75 recipes. Quite a few of the recipes sound quite tasty, including the Smoky Sweet Potato Mac & Cheese and the Coleslaw Potato Salad. But I have a little bit of an issue with how strict this program is. I understand the point of this book is to make you buckle down and finally make changes, but some of the things in the book strike me as a bit obsessive, and maybe not great for your mental health. For example, the author states to weigh yourself every single morning and track that weight. This doesn’t really account for hormonal changes (especially for women) that can make you retain water, giving an inaccurate result. She also advocates for eating within a time restricted window, ideally 4 to 6 hours. For many people that would mean only eating one meal per day, and I just don’t see how that’s healthy. She also states to not do any exercise while on the program, as exercise will stimulate your appetite.
So I can only recommend this book for the recipes, not the program itself.
Thank you to NetGalley & DK for this advanced reader copy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Some of the recipes in this book were good. However, I don't agree with all of the medical advice.
There are vegan health and cooking books that steer people in the right direction towards health, and then there are books like this. While Hever appears to have credentials, the book seems to be the sort of diet that leads to orthorexia. At the very outset, there is a formula to find your ideal weight, at 5'6" I am encouraged to try to be 125 lbs. I think that perpetuates wildly unrealistic stereotypes, and as an athletic woman, I can only imagine how her guidelines would diminish my health in the long run. Hard pass.
Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of The choose You Now Diet. While the way the author explained the diet was really good, I didn’t care to try the recipes. I was plant based for 3 years and was hoping to read this book and get back in it, but sadly not. Although the Chili Cheese Fries look really good.
