The title says it all. Michael's wife and his 2 children vanish while on vacation. He thinks they've been abducted but eventually find out that they merely walked away. But why?? Michael is joined by a police officer as they set out to find his wife and kids. My favorite part was the conversation between Michael and the cop. It was definitely a fun and twisty read!
D.J. Palmer hit a home run with this one. As usual his characters were well developed and pulled you right in to their world. There were many twists and turns in the plot making you think you had it figured out only to realize that you didn’t. Well written, plot was thoroughly thought out and a very entertaining read that keeps your interest.
I love the whole insomnia aspect of the book. It gave you a bit of distrust in the narrative, that didn't use the "crazy " or "unstable " trope. It was a lifetime movie in book format which made is comforting and familiar, but also made me want to keel reading to know the end.
I can't lie some of it was predictable and the ending was a twist but also didn't have enough bread crumbs so it almost felt thrown in. I wish characters were flushed out more because I cared about the plot but had no connections to the characters themselves.
Well, that was an eventful ride!! It started as a four star until I was deep into all the lies, exhilarating twists and past secrets that trickle slowly onto the page. This marriage is on the rocks already as Natalie suffers incurable insomnia that has lasted months leaving her drained, foggy and hallucinating. Her husband, Michael, is less than perfect with his impatience and strained companionship. He worries about her ability to care for their two small children, but he goes to the gym instead to workout. Natalie receives anonymous messages about his obvious behavior and infidelity.
Natalie books them all a much needed NYC vacation and break from both of their jobs. Upon arrival, Michael goes out to pick up pizzas when he returns his family and their luggage are gone. He thinks the worst and assumes they've been kidnapped. With the help of the police and camera footage, it appears she has left on her own freewill. This is when you need to hang on for an eventful ride on the road and some captivating help from friends. On this journey, you will find out all about Michael's dark secrets going back to a time even he has blocked out.
Is he dangerous to everyone he encounters? You will be cheering for her as he follows her trail with an unlikely road companion. Sadly, you will also learn why she hasn't been sleeping. No doubt this will make you feel all the emotions. When you get to those twists, you will wonder who to believe.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this e-galley in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book and was a page turner! I love all of his books, and this one is no exception. Keeps you guessing until the end and a great read!!
What a a perfect cat and mouse book. I love D.J. Palmer's style of writing the author he really knows how to keep you enthralled while reading. While reading the book I didn't know who I liked or hated more the wife or husband because it was always a toss up. Couldn't figure out the ending until I got to it which I like in the books I read.
This story had me guessing through each chapter. The way it went from present to past left me wondering how the plot could end. I thought I had it figured out more than once, only to be given the slip. I did finally manage to figure it out, almost to the end, and it was perfect. I didn’t expect it to end the way it did. A great suspenseful thrill. Book provided by NetGalley.
Amazing book! Loved this story and highly recommend it! I look forward to more books by this author!
Natalie Hart is convinced her husband Michael is having an affair. She is so convinced, in fact, that in a family trip to NYC she takes the kids and disappears while he goes out for pizza. As the lies unfold and Michael’s secrets are revealed, DJ Palmer takes the reader on a wild goose chase that leaves you questioning who should be running from who?
4.25 STARS
Not only do lies beget more lies, but when it comes to Natalie and Michael Hart’s troubled marriage, they also lead to assumptions, paranoia and a huge marital rift. Add Natalie’s severe case of insomnia into the mix, and nothing that transpires is exactly what it seems. A game of cat and mouse ultimately ensues, and while the chase is intriguing, it is not quite as riveting as I had originally hoped.
Told in perspectives that alternate between the present and recent past, “My Wife is Missing” is the latest twisty tale by author DJ Palmer. I was drawn into the story right out of the gate, but I soon realized that I wasn’t a fan of Natalie’s character, who often made questionable choices that I found markedly annoying. Still, I enjoyed the journey as the mystery behind this thriller slowly unraveled, revealing a multitude of truths previously hidden. On a side note, I am grateful to DJ Palmer for the inclusion of a satisfying epilogue which addressed a burning question that still lingered even after this couple’s tumultuous story had ended.
A trip to NYC turns into a missing mother and her two children. Michael looks for his family & Natalie is running from Michael. DJ Palmer doesn’t disappoint with this thriller. You keep thinking back & forth trying to figure out what is going on with everyone. This book had me glued until the end.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book as an e-galley. I actually discoved the author this way and I like everything I have read by D.J. Palmer
I lloved this story! Sometimes things are not the way they seem. Sometimes lies snowball without any notice. When secrets are uncovered. by Natalie, she begins to fear for herself and her children. Natalie suggests a family get away to New York City. She hasn't been sleeping and she thinks it would be good for them all to get away. This was the first step in her "get away plan" This was a well thought out escape plan. Even down to the time it would take from hotel room to go get Pizza to feed hungry kids.
I had figured out most of the plot pretty early on, Husband did bath thing, wife ran away end of story.. NOT! This took several hard turns that I didn't see coming, which to me makes for a great read. I truly did not expect the ending this book has, but loved it!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Natalie Hart suspects her husband of cheating with one of her coworkers. Her insomnia-fueled paranoia runs wild and she plans an elaborate ruse to take her two children and run away from him, but just who is the real danger?
Found myself considering all kinds of different scenarios.
A fast paced, cat mouse chase that keeps the reader at the edge of their seat the entire time. Michael and Natalie decide to take a family vacation in New York but when Michael comes back from picking up a pizza he finds his family is missing. He's on pins and needles trying to figure out where they went and what happened to them.
The story has dual timelines and perspectives. In this case the reader sees the past perspective from Natalie's point of view only. This helps the story unfold in a unique way because we slowly begin to understand Natalie's motives. The dual perspectives leave the reader constantly questioning which narrator to trust. My head was spinning trying to figure out what was going on.
My Wife is Missing is suspenseful, twisty, unpredictable, fast paced and unputdownable. I highly recommend it.
DJ Palmer absolutely never disappoints. I’ve enjoyed every novel he’s written, including this one and I look forward to the next one which won’t come soon enough.
DJ Palmer is one of my favorite thriller authors, so I had hopes and higher expectations for this book. Just as I knew it would be, it is amazing.
It’s told from multiple perspectives and two slightly different time periods, which always adds a little something extra in my opinion. I love being able to “see” what the characters are thinking and experiencing in their own words.
And the things that these characters experience - wow. My Wife is Missing is full of action, suspense, and soooo many twists and turns. There are several huge plot twists, and I didn’t see a single one coming - I was shocked.
If you love good thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat, give this one a try!
I haven’t read a psychological thriller in awhile. I usually solve the mystery. This book kept me guessing. I enjoyed the twist and turns even though some were far fetched. No falling asleep when reading this book. 4 stars.
Wow! This book is a wild ride of twists and turns. I enjoyed D.J Palmer’s The Perfect Daughter, but this book was even better. It’s told in alternating points of view of the two main characters - Natalie and Michael - a married couple with lots of issues. Michael, Natalie, and their two children go to New York for a weekend getaway. Michael goes out to pick up pizza for the family for dinner and he comes back to an empty hotel room. The story of why Natalie disappeared with the kids unfolds, the twists are unexpected, and I couldn’t put the book down. I finished it in two days. This is one of the best mystery/suspense books I’ve read in a while. Thanks to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. The book comes out in May of 2022.
DJ does it again! What a thrill ride, right from the start this grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go! Highly recommending this one!
I was instantly pulled into "My Wife is Missing" by DJ. Palmer. Michael and Natalie go on a trip with their children and when Michael goes out to get food, Natalie and the children are gone when he returns. Intriguing. Did something sinister happen or did they leave on their own accord? Told from the perspective of both Michael and Natalie, with alternating chapters, you are left to figure out who the reliable narrator is.
Security footage shows the wife and kids leaving the hotel and getting into a car. Why is she trying to get away from her husband? This book will keep you guessing and turning the pages. There were twists along the way and long buried secrets revealed. I really enjoyed this one and recommend to all who like psychological thrillers. I look forward to this author's next book!
A big thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book, greatly appreciated.
