DJ Palmer has dine it again! My Wife is Missing is another great book from this author. It will keep you guessing until the end. The book alternates between three perspectives—-the husband, the wife and the wife PRIOR to going on the run. Who is the reliable narrator and who is the unreliable narrator ? Is the wife having delusions due to insomnia or is her husband a killer? You will need to read to the end to find out !
I have to say that My Wife is Missing, by D.J. Palmer, is my favourite thriller of 2021. What an intense, gripping, thought provoking, well written book. There were so many unpredictable plot twists, especially the very last one in the epilogue, I was utterly dumbfounded. I do have to admit that at the half way point of the book, I was disappointed as I thought I had figured out “who dun it” but wow was I wrong. This is such an amazing book and a fabulous introduction for me to D.J. Palmer. Thank you so much to NetGalley, St. Martin Press and D.J. Palmer for my advanced readers copy of My Wife is Missing. Publish date is May 10,2022.
Natalie and Michael are married and have two children, Addie and Bryce. Like many couples, Natalie and Michael are going through a rough patch. Natalie has been struggling with severe insomnia for months which is causing a strain on her marriage. Michael, tried of being second fiddle to his children and Natalie’s mental health, and not having his needs met, decides to embark on an affair. The catch is that this woman works for the same company as Natalie. It doesn’t take long for Natalie to become suspicious that Michael is cheating on her, and with who. Confirming her suspicions, she starts receiving anonymous notes at work telling her that Michael is cheating. Natalie confronts her coworker and her husband, but they both vehemently deny their affair. A few days late Natalie’s coworker is murdered and Natalie knows for certain that Michael is the killer. Natalie is terrified that she and her children will be Michaels next victims so while on a family vacation in New York, Natalie flees with her children. But Michael is close on her heels hunting her down unwilling to let her and their children go. Sorry no spoilers here. You will have to wait til spring to find out how it all ends. Definitely a five plus star read for me.
Thank you to NetGalley & st martins press for this early release copy of my wife is missing by D.j. Palmer!
This book will be released May 2022!
💛💛💛💛/5
I enjoyed the cat and mouse chase that this novel provided! At times you weren’t sure who to trust. The book was a little long and dragged out for me but the last bit completely made up for it with it’s shocking revelations! Especially the epilogue...omg!!! Didn’t see that coming!!! If you like a good thriller this book is for you!
Michael and Natalie. Their marriage is on the rocks. Natalie is struggling with insomnia, and with good reason. Michael has secrets. Has his past caught up with him? I was rooting for someone, but was I rooting for the wrong one?
Natalie disappears with her children on a trip to New York. How? And more importantly, why?!
Lack of sleep can make you crazy. Natalie seems headed for crazy. Can she believe her own mind anymore?
I found myself often second guessing while reading this. A few times I was sure I had picked up on a clue and had it figured out but DJ Palmer is good with the plot twist! And the final ending wasn’t even on my radar! This book was tough to put down!
Thank you again to DJ Palmer and St. Martin’s Press for offering me the opportunity to read this book through NetGalley. I enjoy a DJ Palmer read and this one did not disappoint!
I am a big fan of DJ Palmer’s books. This book is exceptionally good!
Natalie and Michael, who live in a Boston suburb, are taking a vacation trip to NYC with their two young children. Michael goes out to pick up a pizza, and when he comes back to their hotel, Natalie and the children are gone. This twisty story is a page turner! Recommended!
I'm definitely in the minority here, but I just could not get into this book. It started off slowly for me and I found myself skimming in the middle. I did like the multiple POVs of Natalie and Michael before and Natalie after she disappears. I continued reading it to find out what happens, but even the ending couldn't save it for me.
Dang I just knew this book was going to be a creepy one by reading the title. I mean... fantastic thriller. Absolutely kept me up all night waiting to see what was going to happen! The writing style is excellent and I truly enjoyed every page.
I have only just begun reading a lot of mysteries and this author is now at the top of my list to watch for. Yes, very twisty and knuckle biting at times. This mother’s love for her children’s safety! Definitely one of those stories that will keep you up if you carelessly try to read “just a bit” before bed.
Once again this author has written a GREAT book. I was hooked from the beginning. I will read everything DJ Palmer writes!
Another fantastic book by DJ Palmer. I love books with unreliable narrators because it keeps me guessing mord than traditional suspense books. The characters in this book were well developed and were brought to life by the story.
I had a Love/Hate feeling towards Natalie the entire time I was reading this. I am glad that the author incorporated insomnia and not just a 'crazy paranoid woman' for the purpose of the story. It made it fesl like something more believable and fascinating to read.
The only downfall in this book is I wish the ending and reveal would have been a little longer. I felt like there could have been more there to really tie all of the story together more tightly.
Thank you Netgalley, St. Martins Press, and the Author for an ARC on exchange for my honest review.
My Wife is Missing was a pretty fast paced book with a lot of twists and turn, when you think you have it figured out, you don’t. I have read other books by this author and this one did not disappoint. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.
This was a great read about a couple struggling to keep their marriage afloat. Is he an evil, conniving murderer, or is her never-ending insomnia making her a paranoid crazy person? It's a wild ride as the alternate viewpoints keep us guessing. That's not so say that there weren't some parts that dragged for me, but the overall plot was worth the effort. By the end, all the seemingly disjointed pieces fit together very nicely.
Lovers of mystery and suspense will like this book. It's the second offering I've read by this author and I will definitely be on the look-out for his next one.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this pre-published book.
This is my first Netgalley title. I have never read anything by D.J. Palmer but will definitely be adding him to my list of favorites. This title hooked me with the small description given, I am a big fan of mystery books. Michael and Natalie Hart are the parents of two small children (Addie and Bryce), and like most during child-rearing stages have some marital issues. Michael blames her insomnia for these struggles. They decide to take a family vacation to New York City and while Michael heads out to pick up dinner, Natalie and the kiddos disappear, luggage and all! I went into this book ready to devour it as I was hooked from page 1. However life happens and it took me a bit longer than I had hoped to finish it. Even saying that I wasn't let down with this one. This book was full of a lot of twists and turns that had me saying WHAT!! by the end. I would like to say that when I read I don't try to figure out what is going to happen, I feel like this ruins the story.
I would definitely recommend this book to others who enjoy a good mystery. While this book does speak of murder, it doesn't hold true to most murder mysteries where so many details are given of the crimes you wonder how the author comes up with these details?! I have a teenaged daughter and would definitely give this book to her. Thanks to D.J. Palmer, St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for giving me this as my first book to read and review, I really enjoyed it!
OMG what a rollercoaster of a story! I absolutely love the many twists and turns in this book, twists and turns that we know to expect from DJ Palmer.
The story flowed seamlessly, yet I never knew what to expect from one chapter to the next. I enjoyed reading from both main characters perspective, as that allowed me to get to “know” each character on a deeper level.
Each time I thought I had this story figured out, there was another plot twist that floored me. The ending was totally not what I expected, but that is true DJ Palmer style. While the ending was good, I wish there had been a little more back story to make it flow seamlessly while still being a complete surprise.
An arc of this book was was given to me in exchange for an honest review. My review is my own thoughts and not influenced by the author in any way.
This book took me far too long to read, but not for lack of interest. I kept at it and by the 3/4 through the book the story really picked up. I recommend reading this one over a short period of time as some key details are important to the story wrap up. Overall, it was an original story and a great thriller.
Another win for D.J Palmer! This author quickly became a favorite of mine from the very first one! Domestic thrillers are my favorite to read and My Wife Is Missing does not disappoint! Just when you think you have it figured out you will be proven wrong. Clear your day you won’t be able to put this one down.
I'm in the vast vast minority here but I could not find my way into this book. I think I may be done with Domestic Thrillers for now... The sense that every marriage is a breeding ground for roiling resentment, infidelity, violence, and lies of every stripe just wears me out.
I'm also getting sick of the unreliable narrator as a trope, because it has become so expected that authors feel compelled to layer disbelief upon red herring upon misdirection or even direct hiding of the eight ball over and over for hundreds of pages just to try to generate a surprised reaction from the reader. Makes for a less than engaging read.... Add to that main characters that I found fairly odious, foolish and unsympathetic, and the results just didn't work for me.
I really enjoyed Palmer's previous (The Perfect Daughter), and will definitely give him a go again - this one just wasn't a good fit for me.
Holy Smokes. This book. Might be my new favorite suspense novel! @djpalmerauthor ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Michael and his family are in New York on a family trip. He goes to get pizza, and when he gets back, his wife and kids are gone. Now, he’s on the hunt to find them. Were they kidnapped? Did they leave on their own? And will his secrets come out by calling the police?

I flew through this one. Absolutely loved it!!!
Natalie and Michael Hart may appear to their colleagues and friends as an average American couple with a good marriage, two kids, two busy careers and not much time for each other. But, Natalie's insomnia starts a series of events that threaten to end their marriage and maybe one or both of their lives.
There are several twists and turns in this book which involves a cross country car chase, numerous police encounters and a few dead bodies along the way.
Both Natalie and Michael seem devoted to their children, and Palmer kept me guessing as to which of them was in the right throughout most of the book. Perhaps Michael is lying, perhaps Natalie is so sleep-deprived that she is imagining things. Are they both putting their children in danger?
As a pure escape read, this book accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish. However, none of the characters really engaged me and the writing was not stellar, so I am not likely to read more books by this author.
