This just didn't really work for me. I felt no chemistry between Gretchen and Joshua - it was all just a bit too rushed for me to be invested and that always kills a romance story for me. I liked the sports romance element, because that's always one of my favorite tropes but the frontload of smut and lack of development put me off from the beginning.

This book failed to grab my attention, I thought Josh was extremely selfish and only concerned about himself. This book was a miss for me.

Had to DNF this one. Don’t get me wrong, I got over the insta-love (which isn’t my fave) and figured I’d give it a chance. However, it quickly became just a whole lot of lust and that’s not something I am comfortable with, which is why I had to DNF it.

Out of His League was not a grand slam for me friends.

While heading to a wine convention in Las Vegas, sommelier Gretchen Harper spots her favourite baseball player in the airport. Athlete Joshua Malvern is being sent down to Vegas from the major leagues. To cheer him up, Gretchen buys him a cup of coffee and Joshua bumps her up to first-class for a Vegas weekend she’ll never forget.

I was very excited to get to this book. I love me a good sports romance, love a sweet cartoon cover, and really thought this book was going to be the home run I thought it was. Who doesn’t want to bump into their celebrity crush in an airport and then get whisked away on a whirlwind vacation? But I just left feeling disappointed.

The thing that can make or break a book for me is the characters. I need to fall in love with at least one of the characters in a story for me to generally enjoy and continue on with the plot and I found that difficult to do with Gretchen and Joshua. I felt they weren’t fleshed out enough. There was so much dialogue in this story, but when I finished the book, I didn't feel like I knew them at all.

I also felt that the story moved far too quickly for my liking. Within the first third of the book, both characters seem to be in love or at the very least deeply infatuated with each other. There were no stakes or difficulties getting to the point where they realized they had feelings for each other, thus making the realization quite underwhelming. I wanted pining and yearning, and I didn’t get it.

I didn’t feel a whole lot of chemistry between Gretchen and Joshua either. It felt rather forced. Their initial meeting isn't cute and serendipitous and can actually be read as fairly creepy. The author spends a lot of time telling us how the two characters feel about each other, telling us that they are attracted to each other and that the sexual tension is there, but she doesn’t show us this. The tension isn’t between the lines, it's quite literally stated within the text.

While Out of His League did have its shortcomings, I did appreciate that the author managed to throw me for a loop once or twice. While I love a good one-bed trope it was nice to see the hotel situation pan out differently than I had imagined. There was a heavy amount of spice within the story as well. I enjoyed reading a story set in Toronto as I haven't yet read any romances that take place near me.

All in all, Out of His League just wasn’t the book for me. But if you're looking for something quick, smutty, and sporty then definitely give this a go when it comes out.

Thank you to Netgalley and Wattpad for giving me an early edition of the book in exchange for an honest review!

I always get a little scared reading Wattpad books but this one did not disappoint! I'm a total sucker for a sports romance and then with the meet-cute at the airport. Ugh. I feel like every, single, person has the fantasy of meeting the love of their life at the airport, whether in passing or on the same flight. You can't tell me that when you travel, especially alone, that you don't scope out the other single travelers. Anyways, Josh and Gretchen have a cute story. It's a simple as that.

I am thankful to NetGalley for providing me an ARC to read! If you are looking for a cute, light hearted romance look no further. This was a very fast read and I would definitely read other things by this author.

This novel was high on steam but low on plot. Overall a quick and easy read but overall movement and tension were missing. The story just didn't grab me, promising premise that fell flat.

Gretchen is the predictable, solid and reliable friend. That is, until she meets her favorite baseball player on the worst day of his career.

Being sent to the minor league is just the first of Joshua Malvern’s many worries—he’s got an injury that won’t heal and his entire career and future are on the line. When Gretchen offers Joshua a man just out of the minor leagues due to injury a coffee, that simple act is exactly what he needs to lift him out of his funk. One night stand or something more?

This book has a cute premise, typical chick lit. But that’s exactly where it starts and stops just another chick lit story. It had its good parts but also dragged on in others. The characters are meant to be relatable but I couldn’t find myself wanting to know more. This will please some for sure, just wasn’t my cup of tea. 2.5/5

This book was okay. I wasn’t a huge fan of the miscommunication and the characters overall weren’t super exciting to me. I didn’t really connect with them which made it hard to get into the story.

Sorry, I had to DNF. I did not care for this one. I wish I didn’t have to post a star rating since I did not finish the book. It started off cute and I got disinterested about halfway through.

I'd give this book 3.5 Stars. Honestly this book gave what it was supposed to give. It's a Wattpad romance, so there's insta-love/lust, steamy scenes, coinciding orgasms, and two stereotypically hot characters. Where it lost me was when I felt they crammed so much into this book to make it longer and not just a short story.

There was cancer, there was miscommunication, there was an arrest, there was one thing after another that made the story drag toward the end for me. Nothing really connected me to the characters because there was not a lot of backstory on either and the insta-love made all the sexual tension finish so early on in the book. Even when any obstacle was thrown their way they instantly got over it. Like come on, when you are hurt or an obstacle is really an obstacle you will at least need more than looking into someone's eyes and getting an I'm sorry.

I wish this book made us wait a little longer for them to give in and give us the steamy scenes to build the anticipation and let us fall in love with their story more. Maybe justify them wanting to give it all up for each other. That being said the steamy chapters were well written (even though I am not a big fan of the unrealistic ending of two people finishing at the same time EVERY SINGLE TIME). I kind of wish that if we were not going to get any witty banter or sexual tension from them that we would have more scenes with the Earl and Sharla because I feel like that would be a romance that kept us on the hook more, but hey I am an opposites attract kind of girl so what so you expect?

Overall, like I said it gave what I expected it to give which it way it got the stars that it got but I definitely feel like this could have given so much more.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for an advance copy, in exchange for my feedback.

I usually love a good sports romance, and I haven't read many about baseball, so I was looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it didn't hold up to my expectations.

The premise was cute, with an unlikely chance encounter giving way to a weekend romance that turns into the potential of more. But I didn't find much in the way of character development, and most of the relationship development was physical, not emotional.

I did enjoy the parts in between, where Josh and Gretchen were pining for each other, and the side plot with Neptune, but the central relationship wasn't the part of this book that's going to stick in my memory. Generally, I judge books by their rereadability, and this probably isn't on that list.

This book was so cute and I really liked Josh and Gretchen, however, their relationship felt extremely superficial considering they were doing each other majority of the time instead of actually talking things through. There were a lot of great side characters that added to the book, except for Josh's agent, who sucked, TBH.

This was a super quick read and the ending was cute, but there just wasn't a lot of character development between Josh & Gretchen.

I received this novel as an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was light hearted and enjoyable. The characters were likeable , but unoriginal. I wished there was some more depth and developed in the characters.

This book was a heartfelt feel good novel. The characters were fun and lively but unoriginal. The book is originally from Wattpad and it feels like it. I wished there was some more depth and developed in the characters. The story was cute but not original. This book was good but forgettable

I could not get into this book... It fell flat, unexciting and not very entertaining for me. The synopsis was promising but throughout it I found myself not wanting to read it. The dialogue was slow and boring and I felt no chemistry between the two leads. The romance was not there for me. Just not a book for me.

thank you to Netgalley for the E-ARC copy for my honest review.

It is a cute sports romance. If you like baseball and romance stories wrapped up into one, this is definitely something to check out.

Although the story of Gretchen and Travis was really cute, after the time jump the story felt busy. Going from the first half of the story where it was focused only on them and their connection to the second half where they were seeing major events happening one after the other, it just felt like a lot. I understand it happens in real life, but it left the book feeling uneven from the first half to the second half.

Although I felt the second half was a little bit much, the story itself was cute, and I think for sports and romance fans it is a good book. (you don’t need to know everything about baseball but knowing nothing might make it a little confusing at times)

Currently a DNF - I will come back to this title in March to retry.

As it stands, it took me over two weeks to get to 20%. As someone who averages 7 books per week, I knew Out of His League wasn't hitting the spot.

My first issue was how straight forward and unrealistic it was for a stranger to approach someone famous with coffee and him accept it like it was no big deal. However, this is a personal preference issue and I know many enjoyed this aspect.

Now, the real issue: the internal chatter. The brief descriptions.

"They talked a lot about Toronto, comparing their experiences living in the city."

This is one example of what I didn't like about the writing style. I found the details to be lacking, especially where I wanted to know more. I struggled to connect with the characters and focus on the settings because there just wasn't any detail there. It felt like everything was skipped over. Although they talked back and forward, I couldn't connect and found myself skipping over it because there was no connection.
